Kenneth Deruy

Kenneth W. Deruy, age 54, of Peck, owner of KWD Limited (trucking), co-owner of C-Bar and EZ Loan Auto, passed away Sun, Sept 11, 2011 at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with family present, 6-7:30 p.m. at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clearwater United Methodist Church.

Kenneth was born Nov. 16, 1956, in Pittsburg, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Deruy. Survivors include his best friend and companion, Connie Schultz; mother, Constance Shirk and husband, Gerrel, of Newton; son, Justin Deruy and significant other, Stephanie Jones, of Lenexa; daughter, Tasha Carter, and husband, Cory, of Clearwater; brothers, Kurt Deruy of Joplin, Mo., Brett Shirk of Westfield, N.J., and Cory Shirk of Chicago, Ill.; grandchild, Tucker Heina; and step-grandchildren, Payton, Ryley and Jacey Carter.

Memorials may be sent to the American Hemochromatosis Society, 4044 W. Lake Mary Blvd, #104, PMB 416, Lake Mary, FL 32746, or the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.

Shirley Shevette

Shirley Corabell Shevette, 61, formerly of Missouri passed away in Victorville, California on August 31, 2011.

Shirley was born to James and Lula M (Jones) Webster in Missouri on January 21, 1950.

Her father James R. Webster and wife Betty of Cheney, and sons, Patrick Shevette of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Chris Shevette of Victorville survive Shirley. She is also survived by six siblings, Jimmy Webster of Penalosa, Nancy Payne of Hesperia, Calif., Jamie Martin, Carolyn Riedel, Andy Webster and Adam Webster, all of Cheney, also by grandchildren Ryan and Hannah Shevette of California.

Her mother Lula M. Jones preceded her in death.

John Ervin

John C. Ervin, 76, a resident of Phillipsburg, Kan., died Sunday, Sept. 4, at Cheney Golden Age Home in Cheney.

Visitation was 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, and funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, both at Lanterman Funeral Home Chapel in Cheney. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Leone Brooks; his parents, Merl and Idah (Gallantine) Ervin; and a son, Danny Joe Ervin. He is survived by his daughter, Melody Ervin of Lawrence; grandsons, Daniel and Derek Ervin of Cheney; and sister, Inez Jackson of Norcatur, Kan.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Lanterman Funeral Home in Cheney was in charge of services.

Helen Andra

Helen M. Andra, 74, of 212 N. 7th St., Conway Springs, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 at her son’s home in Conway Springs, Kan.

She was born Dec. 21, 1936, on a farm near Andale, Kan., the daughter of Peter Freund and Sophia Cordell Freund. Helen grew up near Andale and attended grade school at St. Mary’s Aleppo. She attended Andale public school and graduated from Andale High School with the class of 1954.

Helen was united in marriage to Jerome Paul “Jerry” Andra on Sept. 29, 1956 at Colwich, Kan. They later made their home at 212 N. 7th street in Conway Springs, where they raised their family of three children.

Helen worked at Copeland Hermetics, rebuilding compressors for air-conditioning units for 23 years. She retired in 1993.

Helen and Jerry celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2006. Jerry died Feb. 13, 2009.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the local Conway Springs Sorority. Helen was a part of local city government and served on the Conway Springs City Council. She was also active on the Conway Springs Volunteer Ambulance for over 20 years.

Helen was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph Freund; and one sister, Agnes Palsmeier.

Helen is survived by her children, Kathy Ast-Smith and her husband Daryle of Conway Springs, Kim Spexarth and her husband Ken of Andale, and Kevin Andra and his wife Judy of Conway Springs; one sister ,Bernice Neises of Belle Plaine, Kan.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Vigil service was at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, and Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, both the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs, with Father Andrew J. Seiler as Celebrant.

Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conway Springs.

Arrangements were by Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs.

Memorials have been established to the CSHS Athletic Department or the Conway Springs Volunteer Ambulance.

Earl Arbogast

Earl R. Arbogast of Clearwater, 81, beloved Dad, Grandpa and “PaPa,” died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 at the South Wind Hospice House in Pratt, Kan.

Earl was born Feb. 18, 1930, at Seminole, Okla., the only child of Burl and Hazel (Selter) Arbogast. Earl spent his early childhood on the family farm outside of Sedan, Kan., where he attended Sedan public grade school. In 1943 the family moved to Artesia, N.M., where Earl attended school until moving back to Sedan in 1947. He attended Sedan High School his senior year, graduating in 1948.

Earl married his high school sweetheart, Norma Lee Foltz on Jan. 1, 1950 at the Sedan First Christian Church. They lived in Wichita and Conway Springs, Kan., before moving to Clearwater, Kan., in 1956, where they made their home and raised their three children.

Earl worked in transportation management for Vulcan Chemical Company, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Clearwater First Christian Church where he served for many years as deacon, elder and as a member of the Stewardship Committee. He was a 50 year member of Vesper Lodge # 136 A.F. & A.M., Sedan, Kan.; the Wichita Consistory; and the Midian Shrine.

Earl enjoyed spending time at his farm at Sedan, especially when family get-togethers were planned. He loved to go fishing and hiking with his special four-legged companion, Lady.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma (Foltz) Arbogast (February 27, 2005) and his son Jon Earl Arbogast (November 26, 2008).

Earl is survived by two daughters: Gail A. Freeman of Clearwater, and Kathryn Ebersole and her husband Jack of Pratt; five grandchildren, Khristina Kirstatter of Lawrence, Kan., Matt Freeman and his wife Christy of Clearwater, Dr. Justin Ebersole and his wife Sadie of Parsons, Kan., Brett Freeman of Lawrence, and Jesse Arbogast of Park Hill, Okla.; four great-grandchildren, Madeleine Stegman, Jace and Audrey Freeman and Alden Ebersole. Earl will be missed by a number of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation with family present was from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the First Christian Church, Sedan.

Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, also at the First Christian Church, Sedan. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan. Online condolences and guestbook are available at www.ebersolemortuary.com.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Christian Church, Clearwater or the First Christian Church, Sedan.

James ‘Jim’ Boehm

James B. “Jim,” Boehm of Haysville, 45, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 31, and funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, both at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Haysville.

He was preceded in death his by parents, Leonard and Rita Boehm; and brother, Thomas Boehm. He is survived by his sister Annette (Greg) Bennett of Haysville; brothers, Dewain (Jan) Boehm of Wichita, Richard Boehm of Denver, Terry Boehm of Haysville, and Mike (Debbie) Boehm of Haysville.

Memorials may be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 1802 W. Grand Ave., Haysville, KS 67060.

Webb-Shinkle Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Charles ‘Bud’ Boyles

Charles G. “Bud” Boyles, age 85, retired plumber/HVAC specialist, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011.

Charles Gerwain “Bud” Boyles was born on Feb. 24, 1926 in Clearwater. He was one of five children born to his parents, Donald Leslie Boyles and Florence Bowman Boyles. He attended school in Clearwater and graduated from Clearwater High School on May 14, 1940.

On Oct. 12, 1951, he was united in marriage to Allene R. Gruber in Wichita. They began their lives living in Clearwater. In 1973, they moved to Wichita, until 2008 when they moved back to Clearwater.

Bud owned and operated Bud’s Plumbing and Heating for 25-30 years. He then worked for Specialized Services until retirement. Bud was a member of the Clearwater First Baptist Church. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 881, American Legion of Clearwater, and was a volunteer Fireman for Clearwater’s Fire Department. He carried the flag in the Clearwater Parade for Ernest Gordon Post 93.

Bud enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, playing poker (his favorite game being “High Chicago”), and other card games such as solitaire and gin rummy. He never met a stranger and loved to tell stories.

Services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel. Interment was in Clearwater Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name with Clearwater Fire Department, P. O. Box 453, Clearwater, KS 67026.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Patrick; and brothers, Jerry and Harold Price. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Allene; children, Connie (David) Schauf of Wichita, Linda (Roland) Meyer-Gosling of White Bear Lake, Minn., David (Ellen) Boyles of Conway Springs, and Gerry (fiancee Shellie Randol) Boyles of Clearwater; sisters, Doris Robbins of Cheney, and Lillian Pulis of Grove, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Junior Shepherd

Junior Harold Shepherd, 79, retired Beech Autoclave Operator, of Wichita, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011. Services were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, August 31, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Cornerstone Church of God, 2706 S. Glenn, Wichita, KS 67217.

Junior was born Feb. 6, 1932 in Winslow, Ark. He was united in marriage to Flora B. Shackelford on October 25, 1951. He went to work at Beech Aircraft in 1951 and retired after 47 years, in 1998.

He was preceded in death by parents, Dillard and Iva (Evans) Shepherd; daughter, Sherry Danner; son-in-law, Paul Danner; siblings, James, Delbert, Robert, George, and Bill Shepherd; half-siblings, Silas, Harvey, Tommy, Johnny and Paul Shepherd, Alvis Fox, Lillie Keach, Bertha Fields, Eunice Harrison, and Dollie Malone. Survivors include his wife, Flora; daughter, Lori Nickels of Viola; son, Jim Nickels of Clearwater; brother, Arlis Shepherd of Winslow, Ark.; sister, Hazel Shackelford of Springdale, Ark; and grandchildren, Nicole (Wayne) Hackler, Christene Nickels, Shauna Danner, Brianna Danner, Mariah Danner.

Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Sigwing

Ronald Sigwing, Jr., 57, passed away August 27.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Sigwing and brother Corky. He is survived by his mother Mary Sigwing of Cheney; brothers Jim (Ann) Sigwing of Cheney, Pat (Kaneetha) Sigwing of Carbondale; sisters Lona (Terry) Duncan of Newton, Candy (Ron) Dreher of Wichita, Penney (Greg) Johnson of Walton, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m. at 528 W. 4th in Cheney.

Interment will be held at Eden cemetery in Milton.

Arrangements were made by Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain.

Betty Ziegler

Betty Ziegler, 70, died August 28 at Kingman Community Hospital.

She was born June 20, 1932, at Arkansas City, the daughter of William and Lydia Koester. A Kingman resident most of her life, she was a laundress for rest homes and hospital.

On November 18, 1967, she married Larry Ziegler. Other survivors include three daughters, Betty Webster, Renee Finchem, and Janie Courtney, Brother Ed Koester, and sister Lois Adams, 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter Helen Nowak, son Ken Courtney and granddaughter Misty Courtney.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Livingston Funeral home, Kingman with Fr. John Miller officiating Friends may call Wednesday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made with the Kingman Community Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
