Ruth Davis

Ruth B. (Deaver) Davis of Clearwater, age 83, retired CMA, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, with family present, 3-5 p.m., at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Clearwater Cemetery.

Ruth was born on Friday, Aug. 9, 1929 in Wichita. She was the third of five children born to her parents, Clarence Joel Deaver and Purna Alice (Davis) Deaver. She was united in marriage on Feb. 25, 1955, in Wichita, to John Dee Davis.

Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Anderson and brother, Robert Deaver. Survivors include her husband, John D. Sr.; sons, Jim Campbell of Joplin, Mo., Danny Davis of Chelau, Wash., John (Debra) Davis of Douglass, Ron (Tracie) Davis and Timothy (Donna) Davis of Clearwater; Kevin (Susan Stockton) Davis of Wichita, and Evan (Dawn) Davis, Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Charlotte Houck of Wichita; brothers, Clarence Deaver of Haysville, Donald (Beulah) Deaver of Claremore, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Clearwater Public Library, P.O. Box 504, Clearwater, KS 67026.

Carolyn McCollumn

Carolyn McCollumn, 70, retired St. Joseph Hospital registered nurse associate, died Oct. 19, 2012.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald. She is survived by her children, Mary Pherigo of Derby, Roxane Emert of Cheney, James (Misty) McCollumn of Cheney, and Donald (Melissa) McCollumn II of Haysville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Michael McCullough

Michael A. McCullough, age 64, of Wichita, original owner/operator of Riverside Perk, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, with family present 5:30-7 p.m., and service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, both at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater.

Mike was born on Friday, March 19, 1948 in Wichita, to his parents, Clifford Byron McCullough and Alvena May (Cavin) McCullough. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Bennett; parents, Cliff and Alvena (Cavin) McCullough; and brother, Pat. Survivors include his daughter, Buffie McCullough of Clearwater; son, Michael McCullough of Osawatomie, Kan.; brother, the Rev. Jeff (Debbie) McCullough of Cherryvale; grandchildren, Sarah Wise, Natalie Wise and Paul Wise; and great-grandchildren, Dorian Leachman and Deedah Morgan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Roever Foundation (Operation Wounded Warrior Reconnect Program), P.O. Box 136130, Ft. Worth, TX 76136.

Dorothy Scheer

Dorothy F. Scheer was born on Mar. 6, 1932 and died on Oct. 15, 2012.

She was preceded in death by parents, John and Audie Rimmer; husband, Richard; brothers, Wesley, Clay, Leon, Eugene, and Jerel Rimmer; sister, Mildred Blades; and grandchildren, Matthew James Scheer and Nicholas Matthew Alfrey. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Scheer of Overland Park, Richard and Heidi Scheer of Gretna, Neb., Rodney and Casey Scheer of Blair, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Burke and Cindy and Marlan Burki of Papillion, Neb.; Dee and Mark Walker of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lisa and Jeff Alfrey of Elkhorn, Neb.; sisters, Jerelene Mcbride and Marie Wallace; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass is Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Papillion. Interment is at Cedar Dale Cemetery, Papillion. Visitation is Friday 1-8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Wake service is at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Assn. or Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation, Nick Alfrey Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Loren Arnold

Loren William Arnold, 71, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Golden Plains Health Care Center in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 7, 1940, to Charles Monroe and Mary Christine Gum Arnold in Great Bend, Barton County, Kan. He graduated in 1959 from Rozel High School and attended Fort Hays State University. Loren was a dispatcher with a moving company and later went to work for Novus Glass Company, where he retired.

He was a member of Church Of The Holy Cross, Hutchinson. On Aug. 12, 1963, Loren married Alice Marie Hammerschmidt in Plainville, Kan. She survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Carol Reitberger and husband Chuck of Clearwater, Lisa Williams and husband Darrell of Virginia Beach, Va., Rachel Nelson and husband Chris of Hutchinson, and Suzanne Carpenter and husband Jason of Shawnee, Kan.; grandchildren, Katie and Allison Reitberger, Marcus and Jared William, Thomas, Samuel and Brian Nelson, and Tyler, Jack, Lane and Logan Carpenter; brother, Edward Arnold of Dodge City; sister, Mary Nan Gardiner and husband Henry of Ashland, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Parish rosary will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at Church of The Holy Cross, and Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. at the church, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Friends may call Wednesday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Loren Arnold Endowment Fund at Trinity Catholic High School, all in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Maxine Hockett

Maxine (Darling) Hockett, age 94, of Clearwater, retired Owner and Operator of Maxine’s Beauty Shop, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, with family present 5-6:30 p.m., at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary in Clearwater. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, First Christian Church in Clearwater.

Maxine Hockett was born on Wednesday, March 27, 1918, in Wichita. She was the oldest of three children born to her parents, Ivan Frank Darling and Mattie Murphy Kanatzar. She started school in Wichita schools, and later they moved to Augusta and Benton. At the age of 10, she moved to Clearwater schools. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1935. After high school, she went on to attend vocational school in 1938.

From 1939-1942, she owned and operated a beauty shop in the former Odd Fellows Building in Clearwater. In 1955, she returned to operate a shop through 1979 where Bales Pharmacy is now located on Ross Street. She retired in 1979.

Maxine was united in marriage to Gilbert Claude “Hank” Hockett on July 29, 1942, in Pratt, Kan. They made their first home in Clonmel before moving into Clearwater in 1947. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1988.

Maxine was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Clearwater. She was also a member of the Clearwater Golden Chain. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert “Hank” Hockett; parents, Ivan and Mattie (Kanatzar) Darling; step-father, Maurice Turpin; and brother, Ivan Verne Darling. Survivors include her sons, James (Pat) Hockett of Topeka, and Claude (Barbara) Hockett of House Springs, Mo; sister, Jean (Clayton) Blough of Wichita; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, 524 Wood, Clearwater, KS 67026.

Loretta Mallard

The family of Loretta Mallard will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Cheney Baptist Church. She died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, and was buried on Monday, Oct. 15, in Buffalo, Mo.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harry Hynes Memorial in Wichita.

Douglas Mourning

Douglas Mourning, 57, passed away peacefully on Oct. 2, 2012, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Doug was a graduate of Clearwater High School in 1973, and the University of Kansas in 1977. His first job after college was for Case Manufacturing before becoming a Procurement Agent for Boeing Wichita. The family moved to Littleton, Colo., where he had a long career as a Contracts Specialist with Lockheed-Martin Astronautics. Doug was an avid trout fisherman who loved the mountains and the family cabin in Lake City. Doug was born on Jan. 30, 1955, to Marvin Mourning, deceased, and Kathleen Mourning of Clearwater, Kan.

Doug is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Aaron; daughters, Nicole Furlong (Ray) and Megan; and three siblings, Kay, Dennis and Vince.

Services are at the Light of the World Catholic Church, 10316 W. Bowles Ave. in Littleton, Colo. Share memories at FamilyMourning@comcast.net.

William Wortham

William Larr Wortham of Clearwater, age 70, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 15, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Funeral services was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Clearwater Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, W. Odes Wortham; and mother, Elsie (Downs) Wortham. Survivors include his sisters, Judy (Gary) Freed of Clearwater, and June (Daniel) Minix of Bastrop, Texas; nephews, Jeremy Broadstreet, Jordan (Rochelle) Freed, Matthew Minix, Joseph Minix; and niece, Joanna Freed.

Memorials may be made to Clearwater Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 620 E. Wood St., Clearwater, KS 67026.

Daniel Ervin

Daniel Joseph Ervin, 30, Maximum Outdoor Power Equipment Mechanic, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. Visitation was from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday at Broadway Mortuary. Funeral Service was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Cheney Baptist Church in Cheney.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny, and grandparents, Janet Leiker and John and Leona Ervin.

Survivors include his wife, Amy; mother, Diane Ervin; brother, Derek Ervin; grandfather, Erwin Leiker; and parents-in-law, Glenn and Paulette Splane.

Ned Hallacy

“Irish” Ned Joseph Hallacy, 65, retired skycap and professional boxer, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, and service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Zelma (Sponsel) Hallacy; and siblings Frances-Ann, Ted and Mike Hallacy. Survivors include his wife, Connie, of Wichita; children, Matthew (Elizabeth) Hallacy of Belle Plaine, Marie (Al) Daniels of Wichita, Mark (Venessa) Hallacy of Haysville; siblings, Joseph (Josephine) Hallacy of Wichita, Thomas (Marie) Hallacy of Haysville, David Hallacy of Newburn, N.C., Donna Hallacy-Muhlenkort of West Hollywood, Calif., Peggy Hanzlicek of Salina, and Pat Hallacy of Wichita; and sister-in-law Ernestine Hallacy of Wichita.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 5500 Kellogg, Room 112, Wichita, KS 67218.

Velta Maninger

Velta Maninger (McMichael), age 89, retired bookkeeper for family business, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. Visitation was Monday Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. and 5:30 -7 p.m. with family present. Services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday Jan 29, both at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel.

Preceded in death by husband, William; parents, Oliver and Flora McMichael; brothers, Melvin and Verel McMichael; sister, Olive McMichael.

She is survived by her children, John (Kathy) Maninger of Maple Park, Ill., Linda (Daryl) Engel of Peck, Marilyn (Rick) Dinwiddie, Glen Maninger, all of Clearwater; sister, Dolly Andrews of Wichita; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials: Clearwater Ambulance Services or Clearwater Fire Department, P.O. Box 453, Clearwater 67026.

Barney Sullivan

Barney E. Sullivan, 79 retired Ad Valorum Tax Consultant, died on Jan. 30, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Pansy Sullivan. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Greta; daughters, Darcy (Bill) Foster of Park City, Lisa (Jerry) Reddell of Cheney; brother, Oran (Noramae) Sullivan of Clearwater; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Mortuary. Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at United Methodist Church in Goddard. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Alice Voris

Alice Voris, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

Survivors include: brother, Charlie Voris; numerous nieces and nephews including, Susan, Patty, Pierre, and Gordon Picotte.

Memorials have been established with Sedgwick County Zoo. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Afton Cemetery, Goddard. Dawn Frankfurt will officiate.
