Avis Miller

AVIS MILLER died August 18, 2011 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 93. She was born on July 12, 1918 in Miltonvale Kansas, the daughter of Seth and Nettie (Smith) Dufrain. Avis was raised in Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School in 1936. She married Ralph Miller in 1937. Avis worked for several grocery stores, at the grade school lunch room for 11 year and at the Miltonvale Cafe. Ralph preceded her in death hon June 17, 1971. She is also preceded in death by two sons, James and Merton, 2 brothers, a sister and 2 infant great-grand daughters

Survivors include:

Grandchildren: 7 Grandchildren and several great grandchildren

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Miltonvale cemetery in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Burial will be at the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 11AM - 1 PM at Phelps Funeral Home

Memorials can be made to Tootleville Park Fund

William "Bill" Walker
(Died August 19, 2011)

WILLIAM “BILL” ANDREW WALKER died August 19, 2011 at his residence in rural Miltonvale, KS at the age of 81. He was born on February 15, 1930 in Cloud County, Kansas the son of Paul and Nettie (Gunter) Walker. Bill was raised and farmed in the Miltonvale, Kansas area all his life. He was a veteran during the Korean War with the US Air Force. Bill married Phyllis Briggs on September 7, 1952 and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2004. He was also preceded by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.

Survivors include:

Son: Terry and wife Marlene Walker, Minneapolis, KS

Son: Greg and wife Elaine Walker, Leavenworth, KS

Son: Kevin Walker, Miltonvale, KS

Daughter: Denelle and husband Lee Mick, Cawker City, KS

Grandchildren: 6 grand, 1 step-grand, 4 great-grandchildren

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:00AM at the F.C. Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Mark Surbrook.

Burial will be at the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the Phelps Funeral Home

Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Assoc. or American Breast Cancer Assoc.

Catherine Simon
(Died August 22, 2011)

CATHERINE SIMON died August 22, 2011 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 93. She was born on May 14, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of William and Helen (McFadden) Segan. Catherine was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She married Winfred Simon in 1938. Catherine served as the Milford City Clerk, a member of the Geary Community Hospital advisory board and Geary County Senior Citizens, Inc advisory board, coordinated University for Man in Manhattan, spent 21 years working for the US Postal Service, retiring as postmaster in 1986. Catherine was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Ladies Alter Society Circle II and 20 years in the Girl Scouts, serving in all levels of scouting. Winfield preceded her in death in 1974, she is also preceded by an infant son, 1 brother and 1 sister.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Patricia and husband Samuel Auld, Wakefield, KS

Daughter: Deborah and husband David Barker, Wichita, KS

Grandchildren: 8 Grand & 16 Great-Grand

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be The Rev. Al Brungardt.

Burial will be at the Milford Cemetery, Milford, Kansas.

There will be held no visitation

Memorials can be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church c/o the funeral home

John Rauch
(Died August 23, 2011)

JOHN WAYNE RAUCH died August 23, 2011 at Onaga Community Health Care, Onaga, KS at the age of 82. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Miltonvale, the son of Leo and Martha (Price) Rauch. John was raised in Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1947. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State university and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of Alaska. John married Audrey Thornton on August 10, 1957. He served as a school principal in Alaska, Victoria, KS, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Miltonvale. John then served as the principal on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico for the Catholic Diocese before returning to Miltonvale. He retired from school administration in 1998. Audrey preceded him in death on March 19, 2007. John was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church in Miltonvale. He is aslo preceded in death by a sister, Norma Kidd, and 3 brothers, Carmen, Jim and Bob.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Ann and husband Tyler Graham, Frankfort, KS

Daughter: Meg and husband John Linsdsey, Silt , CO

Daughter: Mary and husband Lee Malmud, Charlotte, NC

Sister: Jeannette Traver, Colorado Springs, CO

Grandchildren: Tanner Graham & McKenna Lindsey

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00AM at the St Anthony Catholic Church in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be The Rev Larry Grennan.

Burial will be at the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on 5-7 PM Thursday at Phelps Funeral Home with Rosary at 7PM.

Memorials can be made to St Anthony Catholic Church or Frankfort Community Care Home

Josephine Steinbruck
(Died August 22, 2011)

JOSEPHINE STEINBRUCK died August 22, 2011 at Golden Livingcenter, Wakefield, KS at the age of 97. She was born on June 22, 1914 in Oak Hill Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Heigle) Palmateer. Josephine was raised in Clay County and graduated from Clay Center High School. She took normal training and taught school before marrying Gaylord Steinbruck on July 11, 1937. They made their home and farmed in the Oak Hill community. Gaylord preceded her in death on December 30, 1995. Josephine was a member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and bible classes. She is also preceded in death by a son, Ted, a daughter, Gaylene Frigon, 3 brothers and a sister.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Marcine and husband Don Hohman, Green, KS

Son: Frederick Steinbruck, Longford, KS

Brother: Robert Palmateer, Wichita, KS

Brother: John Palmateer, Manhattan, KS

Sister: Doris Palmateer, Wakefield, KS

Grandchildren: 11 Grand, 16 Great-grand & 4 Great-Great-Grand

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill, Kansas .

Officiating the service will be Pastor Gil Gillespie.

Burial will be at the Rose Meron Cemetery, Clay County, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM Friday at the funeral home

Memorials can be made to Meadowlark Hospice or Golden Livingcenter c/o the funeral home

Jean Marnell
(June 16, 1932 - October 10, 2011)

JEAN MARNELL died October 10, 2011 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, KS at the age of 79. Jean was born on June 16, 1932 in Goodland, KS the daughter of Ervin and Mary Alice (Ridge) Walters.

Jean graduated from Norwich High School in 1950. She worked for First National Bank in Hutchinson and she married Joe Marnell on October 13, 1962. They lived in Hutchinson and Chanute before moving to Ingalls in 1976. Jean worked for the Gray County Treasurer's office for many years before retiring. They moved to Clay Center in 2005. Jean was preceded in death by two sisters, Deloris Konetchy and LaVeta Garrison.

Survivors include:

Husband: Joe Marnell, Clay Center, KS

Daughter: Lisa and her husband, Ken Sisley, Manhattan, KS

Daughter: Allison and her husband, Brian Dawson, Parkville, MO

Son: Kyle and his wife, Carol Marnell, Pomona, KS

4 Grandchildren, Anne Sisley, Nathan Dawson, and Bree and Asia Marnell

Sister: Louise Ward, Norwich, KS

Sister: Harriet Walters, Kingman, KS

Sister: Carol Walters, Kingman, KS

Brother: David Walters, Gypsum, KS

Brother: Raymond Walters, Pensacola, FL

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be Fr. Larry Grennan.

Private family inurnment will be held at the Hunt Cemetery, Kingman, KS.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Meadowlark Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
