LINDA G. YOUNG died May 4, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, KS at the age of 67. Linda was born on April 8, 1945 in Carlsbad, NM the daughter of Ira and Lola Evelyn (Jackson) Whiteley.

She grew up in Carlsbad, NM. Linda married Herman Leo Young on December 10, 1980 and they lived in Odessa, TX until moving to Clay Center in 2006. Linda was a member of the Clay Center Christian Church.

Survivors include:

Husband: Herman Young, Clay Center, KS

Funeral Services will be held at a later date under the direction of Denton-Wood Funeral Home 1001 Canal Street Carlsbad,NM. 88220

Memorials may be made to the Clay Center Christian Church in care of the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

Johnathon Lee Stunkel
(Died May 4, 2012)

JOHNATHON LEE STUNKEL died May 4, 2012 in Clay Center, KS at the age of 18. He was born on January 12, 1994 in Washington, KS the son of James and Mirna (Flores) Stunkel. Johnathon was raised in Clay Center and was a member of the CCCHS Class of 2012.

Survivors include:

Mother: Mirna and husband Bill Malcolm, Clay Center, KS

Father: James Stunkel, Clay Center, KS

Sister: Kristina Balthazor, Concordia, KS

Sister: Ashley Stunkel, Clay Center, KS

Half-sister: Mercedes Stunkel, Junction City, KS

Half-sister: Samantha Stunkel, Junction City, KS

Grandmother: Margarita Flores, TX

Grandmother: Geraldine Stunkel, Clifton, KS

Great-grandmother: Betty Long, Linn, KS

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, Kansas .

Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.

Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home

Memorials can be made to Johnathon Stunkel memorial fund to be designated later c/o the funeral home

An additional memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer, KS, Pastor Tom Sahl will officiate.

Earlene Riley
(Died May 8, 2012)

EARLENE MILLIE RILEY died May 8, 2012 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 94. She was born on June 21, 1917 in Delphos, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Millie (Doty) Teed.

Earlene was raised in Delphos, Kansas and attended Delphos schools. She married Rex Riley on February 23, 1935. Rex and Earlene started married life in Delphos but moved west of Oak Hill in 1937, where they farmed. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and later as an Elder for many years. After her husband Rex became paralyzed in 1964, she lovingly cared for him and provided a happy home for them until his death. In addition to her family, she enjoyeed caring for several generations of local children. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Uda Varney and Hortense Shorty Nerison and a granddaughter Donna Rexanne Davidson.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Gloria and husband Merwin Davidson, Oak Hill, KS

Granddaughter: Lori and husband Michael Reid, Manhattan, KS

Grandson: Leland and wife Jenni Davidson, Oak Hill, KS

Sister: Irene Kitty Beals, Cathlamet, WA

Great-Grandson: Tony and wife Angie Reid, Lincoln, NE

Great-Granddaughter: Ashley Reid, Manhattan, KS

Great-granddaughter: Alice Davidson, Oak Hill, KS

Great-grandson: Matthew Davidson, Oak Hill, KS

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10:00AM at the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Harold Gillispie.

Burial will be at the Mt. Liberty Cemetery, Ottawa County, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Phelps Funeral Home

Memorials can be made to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church c/o the funeral home

Gene Arpin
(Died May 21, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
GENE ARPIN died May 21, 2012 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 80. He was born on August 13, 1931 in Clyde, Kansas the son of Ronald Arpin and Laura Ericson.

Gene was raised in Clyde, Kansas. He received his Masters degree from Kansas State University. He married Sue Empson on November 18, 1953 and she survives of the home. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He taught in country schools then taught in Clifton, Kansas. He became an administrator for Clay Center USD #379 in 1968 and was principal in the Green, Morganville, Garfield and McKinley schools until retiring in 1993. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay County Historical Society, VFW, the BonFire Busters camping club all and a Scout Leader.

Survivors include:

Wife: Sue Arpin, Clay Center, KS

Daughter: Linda and husband Randy Willoughby, Minneapolis, KS

Son: Mike and wife Garyla Arpin, Coffeyville, KS

Daughter: Peggy Arpin, Clay Center, KS

Grandchildren: 7 grand and 6 great-grandchildren

Sister: Marie Marcotte, Hutchinson, KS

Sister: JoAnn Simpson, Smith Center, KS

Brother: Bob and wife Ruth Arpin, Hutchinson, KS

Brother: Jerry and wife Carolyn Arpin, Hutchinson, KS

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:30AM at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be Father Larry Grennan.

Burial will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd from 3:00 to 7:00pm with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm at the funeral home

Memorials can be made to Gene Arpin Scholarship Fund c/o the funeral home

Franklin Buckner
(Died May 22, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
FRANKLIN SCOTT BUCKNER died May 22, 2012 at his residence in Clay Center, KS at the age of 68. He was born on May 14, 1944 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky the son of Ollie Buckner and Nora Smith.

Franklin grew up and attended schools in Kentucky. After serving in the U.S. Army, Franklin worked as a truck driver for Key Milling and Keim Trucking. Franklin married Patsy Rose in 1965, they later divorced and she preceded him in death in 1984. He married Karen DePew in 1983 and they later divorced. He married Corrina Hiebert in 2005 and she preceded him in death in 2009. He was a member of the Clay Center Eagles Lodge and the Clay Center American Legion. Franklin was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Evelyn Wren, Brenda Conley, Wanda Huffine, and Cleo Skaggs, 2 brothers, Ollie and Robert Buckner, and 2 grandchildren.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Michelle and husband, Mark Rummel, Clay Center, KS

Son: Duane Buckner, Clay Center, KS

Daughter: Melinda and husband, Izzy Barela, Clay Center, KS

Son: Franklin Scott, JR and wife, Darlene Buckner, Mobile, AL

Daughter: Jody Morley, West Memphis, AR

Grandchildren: 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandson

Sister: Mary Stansberry, New Bloomington, OH

Private, family services will be held at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials can be made to may be made to Meadowlark Hospice and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Esther Everett
(Died May 27, 2012)

ESTHER L. EVERETT died May 27, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 96. She was born on October 5, 1915 in Ottawa County, Kansas the daughter of John and Emma (Foote) Hazlett.

Esther married Elwood Everett on May 18, 1932 in Concordia, Kansas and he preceded her on February 18, 1997. She and her husband ran a custom harvesting operation for 43 years. Esther was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Longford, Kansas and the Order of Eastern Star of Oak Hill, Kansas.

Survivors include:

Son: Lloyd Everett, Clay Center, KS

Sister: Zeldean Hazlett, Minneapolis, KS

Grandchildren: 2 Grandchildren, 7 Great-grandchildren and 7 Great-great-grandhildren

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:30PM at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Longford, Kansas.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Larry Brock.

Burial will be at the Rose Meron Cemetery, Clay County, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30th from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home

Memorials can be made to Bethel United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home
