Gary E. Bushyhead

Gary E. Bushyhead, 55, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at the Kansas Heart Hospital of Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow.The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Gary was born June 9, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas, to Robert Lee and Juanita Shelly (Murray) Bushyhead. He was reared and educated in Grove, Okla., Wichita and Arkansas City. He married Debbie Woods on Dec. 26, 1978, in Wichita. The couple made their home in Winfield and Wichita before moving to Arkansas City in 1991. Gary worked as a parts driver for Boeing and Spirit Aero Systems in Wichita since1985. He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church and was a member of Shelton-Beatty Post 1254 American Legion. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and person. He never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and other sports, time with his family and attending his kids' and grandkids' activities. He also enjoyed learning and exploring his Cherokee heritage. Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of the home; three daughters, Calli, and her husband, Chris Rains, of Arkansas City, Emily Bushyhead, and her companion, Zach Bible, of Tulsa, Abigail Bushyhead, of Arkansas City; one son, Jacob Bushyhead, of Arkansas City; his mother, Juanita Fletcher, of Grove, Okla.; three brothers, Reece, and his wife, Nina Moman, Kevin Moman, all of Grove, Kelly Moman, and his companion, Jeff Hill, of Wichita; four sisters, Janice, and her husband, Max Stacy, of Ardmore, Okla., Judy, and her husband, Dick Rhodes, of South Haven, Miss., Lisa Moman and Jill Moman, both of Grove; in-laws, Ray and Lynda Woods, of Valley Center, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mindy and Tony Treadwell, Lee's Summit, Mo., Juli and Rob Anderson, of Wichita; two grandchildren, Gavin and Eva Rains, of Arkansas City; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association or the Arkansas City Youth Baseball Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Gary Eugene Bushyhead

Funeral services for Gary Eugene Bushyhead, who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Pastor Jack Dickson officiated. Honorary casket bearers Reece Moman, Kelly Moman, Jake Oberlechner, Ray Woods, Chris Rains, Larry Langhorst, Kevin Moman, Kyle Bartlett, Jeff Hill, Tony Treadwell, Zach Bible and Mike Kennedy.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Glen H. Martin Sr.

Funeral services for Glen H. Martin Sr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Bible Christian Church. The Rev. H. Dean LaVelle officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Military honors were by Spencer Ralston Post No. 1254, Arkansas City, with Commander Clyde Hatcher and Chaplain Jerry E. Fry. Color bearers were David Pond and Jimmy Simpson. Firing squad with Commander Gilbert Mills was Joe E. Harris, Les Block, Darrell Rolland, Lee Bartlett, Gary Johnson and Randy Walker. Bugler was Alyce M. Harris. Special music was by John and Deanne Splechter. Casket bearers were Glen H. Martin III, Phillip N. Martin, Kevin Collins, Kelly Crow, William Glen Collins, Gary Schones and Darin Crow. Honorary casket bearers were KG&E retirees and Glen's church family.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Jose Eduardo Sigala

Mass of Christian Burial for Jose Eduardo Sigala, who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Charles Seiwert officiated. Private interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Dale P. Anderson

Dale P. Anderson, 89, Ponca City resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at the Newkirk Nursing Center. Survivors include his daughter, Sharl Taylor, of Newkirk.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk Rebuilding Fund. Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Jana K. Black

Jana K. Black, 42, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at her residence.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Jack C. Kelley

Jack C. Kelley, 85, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Zelfa Lake

Zelfa Lake, 90, longtime Newkirk resident and educator, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Newkirk Nursing Center. Survivors include her son Mike Lake.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

George D. Bonnesen

George D. Bonnesen, 85, Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Kechi Township Cemetery in Kechi. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today. Born Nov. 23, 1920, in Abbyville, Kan., he was the son of Fargus (Frank) Ray and Flossie (Thompson) Bonneson. He was a mechanical foreman at the Murray Gill Plant in Wichita until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Vernie (Williams) Bonnesen of Winfield; sons, James Bonnesen, Kingman, Gerald Bonnesen, Wichita, Wayne Bonnesen, Haven, and Steven Bonnesen, Wichita; daughters, Sharon Rhodes, Oak Harbor, Wash.; half brothers, Bill Ray, Fairbanks, Alaska, Frankie Ray, Quincy, Wash., and Dewey Ray, George, Wash.; half sisters, Rose Johnston, Moses Lake, Wash., and Barbara Termini, Spokane, Wash., 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Emery Bonnesen; a daughter-in-law; and a granddaughter.

Memorials have been established for the Kansas Veterans Home and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Mary S. Hill

Mary S. Hill, 92, Arkansas City, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City. Private inurnment will be held in Hope Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has been effected. Mary was born on Dec. 6, 1913, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Ida Wampler Sells. She moved to Arkansas City in 1944. On May 9, 1945, she married Dr. Lester B. Hills in Lovington, N.M., and they made their home in Arkansas City, where he was a longtime dentist. Through the years, Mary had worked for the Business Mens Assurance Co., First Presbyterian Church, Union State Bank, the Santa Fe Railroad, and was a consultant and distributor for the Pennyrich, Corp. She was a member of the Arkansas City B.P.W. having served as a past president and was once named their Woman of the Year. She was a past membership chairperson for the State B.P.W., a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Kansas Suthors Club, Credit Women International, National Audubon Society, National Wildlife Society and an Honorary Life Member of the Kansas Womens Golf Association. She and her husband maintained a bird sanctuary at their home for many years. Survivors include her caretakers for many years, Joe and Barbara Whiteside, of South Haven, Patricia Hardin and Cassie McClelland, Honeywell; and two nephews, Jim Obermiller, Hartland, Mich., and Bob Obermiller of Lum, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Jan. 26, 1980; and two sisters, Donna Sells and Junetta Obermiller.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Chaplin Nature Center near Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Arkansas City.

Rufus M. Howerton

Funeral services for Rufus M. Howerton, 74, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City, with the Rev. Steve Chambers officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by Spencer-Ralston Post No. 1254 VFW, Shelton Beaty Post No. 18, American Legion. Casket bearers were Jason Howerton, Josh Howerton, David Taylor, Bryson Marshall, Charles Snook and Mike Taylor. Honorary casket bearers were Delbert Peters, Wendell Boyer, Drew Taylor, Bob Westhoff, Bill Love, Vern Hull and Kenny Gilmore.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Barbara Jane Chase

Funeral services for Barbara Jane Chase, 60, Arkansas City, who died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Sloan, Harry Hynes Hospice, officiated. Private interment services were held in Parker Cemetery. Special music was by Jim and Jan Miller. Organist was Kathy Linder. Honorary casket bearers were Edwin Bowman, Jack Wilson, Jim Thompson, Clay Bowman and Ben Wilson.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Velma Leith

Velma Leith, 87, Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Marsha Turnipseed in Ponca City.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

John Lewis Childs

Funeral services for John Lewis Childs, 87, Arkansas City, who died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Mike Crain, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Arkansas City, officiated. Interment was in Parker Cemetery. Casket bearers were Larry Stalnaker, Randy Waldeck, Dan Smith, Tom Howcroft, Ron Bruce and Don Cole.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Marvin Ray Tucker

Funeral services for Marvin Ray Tucker who died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. The Revs. Danny and Joyce Daniel of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery. Military honors were by Spencer Ralston Post No. 1254 VFW, Arkansas City. Masonic Rites were given by Crescent Lodge No. 131 AF&AM, Arkansas City. Vocalist was Peggy Musson. Casket bearers were Ted Lathers, Mike Morgan, Bryan Haynes, Mel Zeman, Jody Morgan and Dan Givens.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Elnora Mae Condit

Elnora Mae Condit, 82, Arkansas City, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Pastor Robert L. Ferris officiated. Interment was held in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City. Elnora was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Drury, Kan., to Ora Clyde Pike and Effie Lois (Goff) Pike. She graduated from Dexter High School. On June 11, 1944, she married Harvey A. Condit in Maple City, and the couple has made their home in Arkansas City since. She was a homemaker. Elnora was a member of the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. Survivors include her three daughters, Effie Condit, Maria Flanigan and her husband, Fred, all of Arkansas City, and Ella Coffey of Bristow, Okla.; granddaughter, Shana Watson; and one great-grandchild. Elnora was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Francis Pike; and sister, Beulah Holt.
A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Zelfa Marie Lake

Zelfa Marie Lake, 90, lifelong Newkirk resident, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Newkirk Nursing Center. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2008, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. James Hollifield, minister of the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk, officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Born July 6, 1917, at the family home place in rural Newkirk, she was the daughter of Joseph Wesley and Katherine L. (Schuessler) Spore. As a teacher, she taught classes at Magnolia rural school, at Liberty School, east of Kildare, at Prairie Chapel, at OK School and in Newkirk, where she retired May 22, 1978. Survivors include one son, Mike Lake, of Newkirk; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Nelson Lake; her parents; one brother, Vester Spore; and a sister, Lorene Andrews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, rebuilding fund through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.
