Laurie Magee

The Mass of Christian Burial for Laurie Magee, 55, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date. She died October 4, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 11, 1955 in El Paso, TX, the daughter of William Robert and Wilda (Pirl) Leonard.

Laurie graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1976. She was a licensed registered nurse. She had worked as a medical ICU nurse at St. Francis Hospital and she also worked at several clinics. Since the birth of her son, she was dedicated to being a Mom and a homemaker.

Laurie was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was a member of the University Women’s Club at Kansas University. She volunteered with Troop 53 of the Boy Scouts of America and also volunteered at the church and Bishop Seabury Academy. She was a member of the Kansas State Nurses Association and a Certified Master Gardener.

She married Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Magee on May 22, 1982 in Wichita, KS. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Gabe Magee, of the home, a brother, Fred and his wife, Becky Leonard, of Columbia, SC a sister, Lyn Wilson and family, of Fairway, KS. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Violet Magee, of Baldwin City, KS, brothers-in-law: Dan & wife Connie Magee, of Topeka, KS, Mark and wife, Cabrina Magee, of DeSoto, KS, Shawn and wife, Shirley Dawn Magee, of Topeka, KS, , her sister-in-law, Sharon and her husband, Jem Minor, of Baldwin City, KS, four nephews and twelve nieces.

The Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Inez Odle
1912-2000

Funeral services for Inez E. Odle, Kansas City, Kan., were Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Odle died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Johnson County Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 9, 1913, Hiwasse, Ark., the daughter of Elmer Todd and Clara Sheriff dle. She lived in the Kansas City area since 1944.

She was a homemaker and a member of Rosedale Congregational Church. Her husband, William Odle, preceded her in death in 1944.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Odle, Kingman, Ariz., and Dana Odle, Shawnee; two daughters, Rosie Inman, DeSoto, and Glenna Odle, Olathe; two brothers, Jim Todd and Joe Todd, both of Kingman, Ariz.; two sisters, Barbara Parker, Orand, Ala., and Betty Prock, Casa Grande, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Rosedale Congregational Church.

Frederick E. Schulmeyer

Funeral services for Fred Ernest Schulmeyer, 73, Leon, KS (formerly of Lawrence, KS) will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private Burial will be in the Vinland Cemetery. He died February 7, 2010 at his home in Leon, Kansas.

He was born on April 27, 1936 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Ernest Philip and Louise Katherine Schulmeyer.

He was a Farmer and was also a Truck Driver for Lawrence Ready Mix. He was a member of the Eagles.

He married Shirley L. Higgins on May 18, 1968 in Oskaloosa, KS. She survives of the home

Other survivors include two daughters, Connie Thompson of Higginsville, MO; Judy Faulkner of Severy, KS; one son, Johnny Schulmeyer of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Brown, Jr; a grandchild and one great-grandchild.

The family will greet friends following the service at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family requests casual attire.

Gerald H. Thompson
1933-2000

Services for Gerald H. Thompson, 67, Lawrence, were Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Thompson died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at his home.

He was born July 15, 1933, in Pittville, Mo., the son of James Henry and Mabel May (Aisher) Thompson.

He grew up and attended schools in Missouri before moving to Jefferson County. In 1953, he moved to Lawrence and was a foreman for Everley Roofing. He retired in 1996. He worked for the Roofers Local No. 20 of Kansas City, Mo.

He was a Navy veteran.

He married Joan Mayhew on July 16, 1953, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Gerald L. Thompson, Lawrence, and Darrel H. Thompson, DeSoto; three daughters, Beverlee Dover, Linwood, Peggy Vanek, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Judy Salah, Lawrence; a sister, Merrley Blum, Holden, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Garion Vest
1990-2000

Services for Garion Daniel Vest, 10, DeSoto, were Wednesday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, DeSoto. Burial was in DeSoto Cemetery.

Garion died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

He was born May 15, 1990, in Hayward, Calif., the son of Daniel and Kristin Vest.

He played soccer and also wrestled.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Skip and Carol Skyrud, Mariposa, Calif., and Charles and Sharon Vest, Bonner Springs.

The family suggests memorials to the Garion Vest Trust Fund, sent in care of DeSoto State Bank, P.O. Box 429, DeSoto 66018.

Charles E. Rose
1908-2001

Services for Charles E. Rose, 92, DeSoto, were Monday, Feb. 12, at DeSoto United Methodist Church. Burial was in DeSoto Cemetery.

Mr. Rose died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born June 17, 1908, in LaCygne.

Mr. Rose had worked at Hercules Army Ammunition Plant, in construction, and for Shawnee and DeSoto school districts. He retired in 1975. He then began selling Fuller Brush and Massons Shoes.

He married Stella Massey on Aug. 14, 1935. She and a son, Kenyon, died earlier.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Russell, Eudora, and Marge Ireland, DeSoto; a son, Marvin Rose, Phoenix; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials, which will remain in the DeSoto area, be sent in care of Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 101, DeSoto 66018.

Edwin E. Gibbs
1954-2003

Services for Edwin Eugene Gibbs, 48, Fort Scott, were Friday, March 7, at Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, Fort Scott. Burial with military honors was in Clarksburg cemetery in Garland.

Mr. Gibbs died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott.

He was born May 21, 1954, in Germany, the son of Edwin E. and Dorothy (Clayton) Gibbs. He graduated from Lawrence High School.

Mr. Gibbs was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Topco Laminates in Fort Scott. He attended Church of Christ in Fort Scott and was a member of Fort Scott Elks Lodge.

He married Barbara Hurd on June 19, 1982, in Fulton. They later divorced.

Survivors include two sisters, Star Atwell, De Soto, and Mary Payne, Burbank, Calif.

The family suggests memorials to American Diabetes Assn., sent in care of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott 66701.

Tammy J. Williams
1960-2003

Services for Tammy Jo Williams, 42, were Friday, June 13, at Tonganoxie Christian Church, Tonganoxie. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Topeka.

She was born Aug. 13, 1960, in Lawrence, the daughter of Jimmy and Judy (Taylor) Erwin. She had also lived in Eudora and Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Williams was a cashier for Dillon's Food Store in Topeka. She was a member of the Tonganoxie Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Andrew Williams, Clearview City; two daughters, Trina Skeet, Shawnee, and Amanda Baldwin, Rowe, Va.; her parents, Tonganoxie; a brother, Troy Erwin, Tonganoxie; a sister, Jill Kietzmann, Tonganoxie; and a grandson.

The family suggests memorials to the Tammy Williams' Burial Fund, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie 66086.

Olen C. Kelley
1919-2003

Services for Olen Clifford Kelley, 84, Grove, Okla., were Friday, June 13, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial was at Eudora Cemetery.

Mr. Kelley died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Grove Nursing Center, Grove, Okla.

He was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Bethany, Mo., the son of William B. and Pearl Ethell (Maxwell) Kelley. He later lived in Hill City, Tonganoxie, Eudora and Salt Lake City, and he moved to Grove, Okla., in 1981.

Mr. Kelley was a supervisor at the Hercules Ammunition Plant, both at the Sunflower plant in De Soto and the plant in Salt Lake City, until his retirement.

He married Hazel Marie Walker Oct. 21, 1935, in Lawrence. She died Sept. 15, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Graves, Baldwin, and J.C. King, Grove, Okla.; four daughters, Carol Fulks, Edinburgh, Texas, Patsy Eisenbarger, Grove, Okla., Connie Davidson, Houston, Texas, and Linda Bowers, Miami, Okla.; a brother, Ivan Kelley, San Juan, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A brother, Vernon Kelley, also preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.

Marcus W. Priddy
1975-2003

Services for Marcus Wade Priddy, 27, Shawnee, were Friday, June 20, at Westside Family Church, Shawnee. Burial was in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.

Mr. Priddy died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home.

He was born July 3, 1975, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of Linda Caraway and Irvin Priddy.

Mr. Priddy graduated from Lansing High School in 1993, and from Kansas State University with a degree in secondary education in 1997. He taught biology and coached football and girls basketball at Shawnee Mission West for the past five years. Prior to teaching and coaching at Shawnee Mission West, he was a student teacher and coach at Piper High School. He was a member of the Greater Kansas City Basketball and Football Coaches associations, as well as the American Football Youth League.

Survivors include his wife, Tana, of the home; two sons, Tyson Priddy and Dain Priddy, both of the home; his mother, Linda Caraway and Palmer Welch, Lansing; his father, Irvin Priddy, and his wife, Dana, Greenwood, Mo.; two sisters, Christy Barrett and Jeny Weiss; a brother, Brian Jackson; and grandparents, Kenneth Caraway, Glendale, Ariz., and Dan and Lois Heath, Raytown, Mo.

His grandparents Doyle and Jeffie Priddy and Okaneida Caraway, preceded him in death.

The family suggests donations to the Marcus W. Priddy Family Trust, c/o Bank Midwest, 2901 S. 4th Street, Leavenworth 66048.

Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee was in charge of the arrangements.
