Lucille Sellers
1916-2001

Funeral services for Lucille Lena Lipp Sellers, 84, Leavenworth, were Friday, April 13, at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Muncie Cemetery.

Mrs. Sellers died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at her home.

She was born December 22, 1916, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Ernest Adam and Lena Katherine Haas Lipp.

She graduated from Leavenworth High School. She then graduated from St. Mary College.

She taught school in rural one-room schools and Leavenworth schools, teaching at North Broadway School and Third Avenue School. She retired in 1980.

Mrs. Sellers was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Leavenworth, the Leavenworth Retired Teachers and the Graham Chapter No. 395 O.E.S.

She married David Thomas Lindsay. He preceded her in death in January 1941. She later married Arthur Sellers. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1966.

A brother, Clarence Lipp, and a sister, Dorothy Bogner, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Jane Dyson, De Soto; a son, Col. David Olcott Lindsay, St. Maries, Idaho; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Anna Margaret Nutt
1935-2003

Services for Anna Margaret Nutt, 68, Olathe, were Wednesday, June 11. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.

Mrs. Nutt died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Olathe Medical Center.

She was born March 19, 1935, in Lamine, Mo., the daughter of Lud and Clara (Ballew) Evans.

Mrs. Nutt lived in Olathe from 1959 to 1987 before moving to De Soto for eight years. She was a member of Olathe Christian Church.

She married Samuel J. Nutt on Jan. 8, 1955. He died earlier.

Survivors include a son, Stephen Nutt, Lawrence; two daughters, Joe Roe and Sandy Shurling, both of Olathe; a brother, Estil Evans, Boonville, Mo.; five sisters, Pauline Brown, Olathe, Ruby Wyrick, Placentia, Calif., Marge Abercrombie, Olathe, Clara James, Marshall, Mo., and Geneva McBroom, Olathe; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to the American Alzheimer's Association. at www.alz.org or to the church, 1115 S. Ridgeview Road, Olathe 66062.

John R. Diehl
1932-2001

Funeral services for John R. Diehl, 68, Lawrence, were Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Diehl died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Bedford, Pa., the son of Kenneth A. and Helen (James) Diehl. Mr. Diehl moved to Lawrence 42 years ago from Bedford, Pa.

He was a Korean War veteran and had worked at the K-Mart distribution center for 22 years. He retired in 1996. Before that he worked for the Douglas County Public Works Department and at Hercules, Inc. near DeSoto.

He married Elizabeth Overbaugh on June 1, 1958, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Debra Diehl, Lawrence; a son, Greg Diehl, Lawrence; two brothers, Ronnie Diehl and Larry Diehl, both of Pennsylvania; and three sisters, Shirley Spade, Jane Miller and Susie Beach, all of Pennsylvania.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society or to Douglas County Heart Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.

Rodger Maxwell

Rodger Maxwell, 52, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Thursday July 26, 2007 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

He was transferred to Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson St., Mexico, Missouri 65265 for services.

Mary Alice Stubbs

Mary Alice Stubbs, 95, Tonganoxie, KS, died Wednesday August 8, 2007 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday August 10, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mary was born August 15, 1911 in Tonganoxie, KS, the daughter of Patrick and Mabel (McCaffrey) Lenahan. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. She was an elementary school teacher for 32 years. After retiring she moved to Ft. Meyers, Florida. She was married for over fifty years to Fredrick Stubbs, who preceded her in death August 6, 1987.

Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Powell, Clinton, MO and Margaret (Peg) Lenahan, Tonganoxie, KS and her nieces and nephews.

Alice Marie Dalton

Alice Marie Dalton, 97, Tonganoxie, KS died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dalton was born May 11, 1910 in Linn, MO the daughter of Elmer and Katie (Wilson) Quick. She was a member of Tonganoxie Assembly of God Church and a 50 year member of Sherman Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira P. Dalton in 1970, son, Ira L. Dalton in 2000 and granddaughter, Priscilla Sevens in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene and husband, Bernard Ham, Raymore, MO and Imogene (Sissie) Garrison, Tonganoxie; daughter in law, Delores Dalton, Kansas City, KS; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Rose (Herod) Poterbin McLaughlin

Rose (Herod) Poterbin McLaughlin, 96, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS

Services for Rose will be 10 am Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the church where a rosary will be said at 7 pm.

Rose was born December 1, 1910 in Rayville, MO, The daughter of William and Nora (Richardson) Herod. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Poterbin in 1962, and by her second husband, Garland McLaughlin in 1982.

Survivors include four sons, James A. Poterbin, Edwards, MO, Joseph A. Poterbin, Mission, KS, Jerry R. Poterbin, Lenexa, KS, and John R. Poterbin, Tonganoxie, KS; daughter, Mary Lou Busby, Overland Park, KS; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.

Quisenberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Watson

Katherine Watson, 61, Tonganoxie, KS died Sunday, September 9, 2007 in Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday at Village Community Church, 115th & Leavenworth Rd., Kansas City, KS. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the Church.

Katherine was born May 28, 1946 in Ellinwood, KS, the daughter of Francis and Kathryn (Hagen) Broderick. She was a paraprofessional for USD #500, Kansas City, KS and a member of Village Community Church. She was united in marriage May 31, 1969 in Shawnee, KS to Dan K. Watson.

She is survived by her husband, Dan, of the home; son, Sam and wife Melinda, Bonner Springs, KS; three brothers, David and wife, Linda Broderick, Denver CO, Michael and wife, Pam Broderick, San Marcos, TX and Tom and wife, Patty Broderick, Lenexa, KS; three sisters, Carol and husband, Roger Burell, Phoenix, AZ, Ann Liable, Raleigh, NC and Phyliss and husband, Jim Coman, Branson, MO: and two grandchildren, Madison and Elijah Watson.

Mary Aileen Denholm

Mary Aileen Denholm, 76, Tonganoxie, KS died Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007, at First Congregational Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Denholm was born November 20, 1930 near Baldwin City, KS, the daughter of Cecil and Ila (Loree) Vining. She was a 1953 graduate of Kansas State University and had worked for J.C. Penny Company, Lawrence, before retiring. She was a member of First Congregational Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary and an active 4-H leader, all of Tonganoxie. On May 25, 1952 she was united in marriage to Harold T. Denholm in Richmond, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Harold, of the home; son, Gregg and wife, Deb, Tonganoxie, KS; three daughters, Linda and husband, Rod Sturgeon, Tonganoxie, Carol and husband, Tim Fellows, Lake Stevens, WA and Lorie and husband, Steve Vann, Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Gene Vining, Richmond, KS; sister, Kay Daniels, Marshfield, MO; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

John R. Gordon

Funeral services for John R. Gordon, 77, Lawrence, were Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Main Street Baptist Church in California, Mo. Burial was in Gambell cemetery in California, Mo.

Mr. Gordon died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at his home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Barnett, Mo., the son of Aubry and Nellie Rohrbach Gordon.

Mr. Gordon served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1952 to 1954. He worked as a structural ironworker.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Gordon, of the home; two sons, Earnest and Michael Oshel, both of Lawrence; three daughters, Kay Beth Goodwillie, Eldon, Mo., Teresa Lay, Tulsa, Okla., and Roxanna Bowman, Lawrence; two sisters, Edna Gray and Hazel Flippin, both of California, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie was in charge of local arrangements.

Jim Uhlrich

Jim Uhlrich passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Providence Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at the Golden Living Center in Edwardsville, KS at a later date.

Mr. Uhlrich was born January 31, 1949, in Lawrence, the son of Bernard F. and Bonnie Uhlrich. He graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1967, and he attended the University of Kansas. Mr. Uhlrich had been a carpenter and was Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Francis (Butch) E. Uhlrich. Survivors include his mother, Lawrence, KS, his sister, Cheryl Packard and husband Charles, Lawrence, KS and his sister-in-law Jane Uhlrich, Greenwood, MO.

Mr. Uhlrich had donated his body to the Willed Body Program at Kansas University School of Medicine. The family suggests memorials to the Golden Living Center Edwardsville, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie.

Phyllis Marie Bryan

Phyllis Marie Bryan, 75, Basehor, KS, died Tuesday September 25, 2007 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, KS.

A celebration of life ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Saturday October 6, 2007 at the Basehor V.F.W. Hall, Basehor, KS. Private inurnment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Basehor, KS.

Phyllis was born on August 3, 1932 in Concordia, KS, the daughter of James and Alice (Kimmal) Clark. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Bryan in 1959 in Miami, OK. She was a homemaker and helped manage Bryan Coach Sales (El Dorado Campers) from 1960-1975. Phyllis was a great wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Wright and sister, Harriet Murray.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, of the home; two daughters, Deborah M. Gleissner and Diana L. Bryan-Smith and husband, Tracy, all of Basehor, KS; her son, Jeffrey P. Wright, Las Vegas, NV; sister, Shirley Stolzenburg, Concordia, KS; two grandchildren, Amanda and Robert Gleissner, her loyal companion, Daisy; and many nephews and nieces from western Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Association (Ovarian Research) or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
