JOSEPHINE A. REEDER

Josephine Anne (Jo Ann) Eisenman Reeder, 75, Cameron, Mo (formerly of Kansas City, MO), passed away 12/3/04. Rosary will held at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS Wednesday, December 8 at 5pm followed by visitation until 7pm. Memorial Mass will be Thursday, December 9 at St. Munchin Catholic Church, 301 N. Cedar, Cameron, MO. Graveside services will be at Resurrection cemetery Thursday, December 9 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities, 1112 Broadway, KC, and MO.
Jo Ann was born to, Eugene & Irene Eisenman on August 7, 1929 in KC, MO. Raised in KC, MO attended Bishop Hogan High and later, earned an AA in Micro-Biology.
Married to Caldwell Warner Reeder, Jr., June1, 1948. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Warner, her parents and two brothers, Bill and James Eisenman.
She is survived by her five children, Leiola Reeder of KS, Christopher (Pascale) Reeder of CA, Michael (Theresa) Reeder of CA, Anne (Tony) Gregorio of CA and Eugenia (Robert) McGuire of MO; two sisters, Mary Baiter & Betty Gibbs; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jo Ann was a life-long devout Catholic who volunteered for the Women’s Altar Society, Truman Hospital and as a communion minister at St. Munchin Church in Cameron, MO. One of her greatest loves was baking for her family & friends.
Jo Ann faced her last illness with a great amount of courage, tenacity and faith.

JOHN DAVID FRANKLIN

John David Franklin, 60, of Leawood, KS passed away at his home on November 30, 2004. A memorial will be held at 7:00PM, Tuesday, December 7th, 2004, at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa, 10113 Lenexa Dr., Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Rotary International Foundation, which may be sent to the chapel, C/O John David Franklin Memorial Gift Fund.

Born in East St. Louis, IL, John David was a Certified Public Accountant, serving the Kansas City area for more than 28 years. He was past President of the Rotary Club of Lenexa, of which he was a proud member for nearly 30 years. A Paul Harris Fellow, John David lived his life by the principles of Rotary, with a commitment to the Four Way Test of his thoughts, words and actions. The Four Way Test is 1. Is it the Truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build good will and better friendships? 4. Is it beneficial to all concerned?

John David started his career as an Exchange Teller at Jefferson Bank & Trust in St. Louis, and after graduating from the American Banking Institute in 19##, he began working as a payroll accountant at McDonnell Douglas during the Vietnam War. In the evening, he attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in just three years in 1971.

Beginning his professional career at Arthur Andersen, John David left his position as Supervising Auditor after three years in 1974 to become Controller of Johnson County Community College. In 1976, he started his certified public accounting firm. Also in 1976, he wed Willa Marie Hodges, his wife of 22 years and the mother of his two children. In 1986, he formed a partnership with Robert (Bob) K. Walsh, C.P.A., and the firm of Franklin & Walsh Certified Public Accountants. Bob was John David’s friend and confidant in business and in life for more than 25 years and remains a source of strength for his survivors.

John David is survived by his loving mother Inez Franklin of Overland Park, KS, his daughter Amber Franklin LaRue of Chicago, IL., his son John Brenton Franklin of Washington, D.C., his former wife Willa Marie Franklin of Lenexa, KS, and his companion Patricia (Trisha) Jean Sauer of Leawood, KS.

John David Franklin was a kind and loving father, son, companion and devoted friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

H. PAUL LANGSTON

H. Paul Langston, 79, of Shawnee,, KS, passed away, Friday, December 3, 2004 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 8 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Langston was born in Kansas City, MO. He was an electrical supervisor for Smith & Loveless before retiring. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was an avid bowler and was a youth bowling instructor for over 25 years. He coached baseball and softball and loved to hunt and fish as well as play the guitar. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth May Langston, of the home; a son Randy and his wife, Julie, Langston, Lenexa, KS; a daughter, Diane Burkitt, Lawrence, KS; three grandsons, Andy, Beau and Casey Burkitt and two great grandsons, Caleb and Maddox Burkitt. Dorothy Ann Rooney

Mass of Catholic Burial for Dorothy Ann Rooney, 81, Lawrence will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Corpus Christi Church; burial following at Fidelity Catholic Church cemetery, Fairview, KS. Ms. Rooney died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born in Fairview, Kansas on August 27, 1929, the daughter of Mark and Anna Mary "Philomena" Rooney. She attended 8 grades in a rural one room school, Franklin Grade School, and graduated from Fairview High School in 1947. On August 22, 1975, she graduated from the School of Banking, in Madison, WI.

Dorothy started her 59 years in banking at the Morrill and Janes Bank, Hiawatha, Kansas. She started as an Assistant Cashier with the opening of the Douglas County Bank, in Lawrence, KS in 1952. Long hours, hard work, and professionalism provided promotions culminating her career as Executive Vice President and Board of Directors member.

In 1972, the Equal Right Amendment (ERA) for Women became a controversial subject. Dorothy supported Equal Pay for Equal Work. To her ERA meant: Education, Responsibility and Attainment. Dorothy was the first woman in the Lawrence community to be elected to the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the first woman Director of local Commercial Bank, and the first women Treasurer of the Kansas State Bankers Association. She accepted the Douglas County Bank Board of Directors position by saying, "I would not want this position because I was a woman nor would I want to be denied the position because I was a woman; however, I do believe that I have earned the honor and I accept.”

She was active in the National Association of Bank Women, Inc., Center for Research Inc., and the Kansas Bankers Association. Her civic services included KPERS Board of Trustees, Douglas County Visiting Nurses Board, United Way Fund Director, Kansas History Museum Board, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, and Lawrence Citizens Advisory Council. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and very proud to serve on the church building committee.

Dorothy was an avid Jayhawks fan and attended many basketball and football games with family and friends. Her hobbies were travel, and researching family genealogy.

Dorothy was a beautiful person-both inside and out, making others feel special because she showed true concern and interest in their needs. She will be deeply missed by all she touched.

She is survived by a loving family which includes sisters, Isabel Showman, Sabetha, KS; Mary Lane, Bloomington, IN; brother, George "Ned" Rooney and wife Mary Lou, Lawrence, KS; eight nieces and nephews, and fifteen great nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Fred and Lee Rooney.

Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, with the Rosary to begin at 7 p.m.

Michelle Sandoval Hoffpauir, 36, of Lenexa, KS passed away, Thursday, December 2, 2004 at KU Medical Center. The Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 5, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m., Sunday at the Amos Family chapel of Shawnee where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Susan G. Frances Ensor, 77, Shawnee, KS passed away Wed. Dec. 1, 2004, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Mrs. Ensor was born in Baltimore, MD. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Samuel W. JOSEPH B. PONDER
Joseph B. Ponder, 74, of Overland Park, KS, passed away, Monday, November 29, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Manor after a brief battle with cancer. Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, December 4, at Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the animal shelter of your choice or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Ponder was born in Burkburnett, TX. He was a Baptist and was baptized in Longview, TX at the Longview Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Ponder was the Credit Manager for Jorgensen Steel Co. for 34 years and retired in 1992. He was a veteran of the Air Force. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Ponder, Mustang, OK; his very dear friend, Nancy Ann Erwin, Shawnee, KS; his sister Betty Jean McMillen, and a niece, Karen Dalton, both of Dallas, TX. DAVID E. LONG, DDS

David E. Long, DDS, 54, Merriam, KS, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born January 7, 1950 to Dr. Edward E. Long and Dorothy Long of Humboldt, KS. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran church in Humboldt where he began his teaching career teaching Vacation Bible School. He was also an Eagle Scout. While in high school David played football and basketball and also formed his own band called “The Night Watch”.

David graduated from Humboldt High School in 1968, from the University of Kansas in 1972 and obtained his teaching degree in 1973. After teaching at Hocker Grove Middle School in the Shawnee Mission School District for three years, he entered UMKC and obtained his degree in Dentistry. While practicing dentistry part time, he also taught at the Dental School. However, after he developed an eye sight problem which created challenges in his dental practice, he returned to Hocker Grove Middle School where he has touched the lives of many 8th grade students for the past 12 years. While at Hocker Grove, David was instrumental in developing the outdoor lab creating many opportunities for “hands on” learning. David was not just a teacher to his students, he supported and attended their many outside activities. The outpouring of admiration and love in the hundreds of cards David received from his students over the past few weeks warmed his heart. One card in particular from two former students said it all – “A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others” (anonymous) He will definitely be missed by many.

David was preceded in death by both of his parents. Survivors include one brother, Jerry Long, Fairway, KS and two sisters, Sherry Crane and husband, John, Overland Park, KS and Debbie Stewart and husband, Neil, Longmont, CO, one nephew, five nieces and one great nephew.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6 – 8 p.m., Friday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 9100 Mission Rd. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Mt. Hope cemetery in Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Frank Mohesky Scholarship Fund in memory of David Long. JOHN DAVID FULBRIGHT

John Fulbright, 21, of Overland Park, KS passed away Sunday, November 28th, 2004 in Olathe, KS. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 1st, 2004 at the Lenexa Christian Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 30th at the Lenexa Christian Center, 17500 W. 87th Street, Lenexa, KS.
John was born March 24, 1983 in Springfield, MO to John P. and Angie (Triplett) Fulbright. He was a graduate of Olathe East High School and was attending the University of Kansas. John enjoyed playing football, softball and was on the Olathe East Hockey team. He was an avid KU basketball and football fan. John especially enjoyed going to Chief’s games; however, John’s favorite pastime was attending his brother Steve’s baseball games. John was employed at Best Buy and the KU Rec. Center. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Paul and Zola Campbell, great grandfather, Garland Triplett, great grandmother, Clo Sparkman and very good friend, Steve Thompson. Dorris was born Feb. 6, 1942 in Nashville, TN to David S. and Mary (Hooks) Gillem. She was a technician at Proctor and Gamble, retiring in 1998. Dorris was a member of the Proctor and Gamble Retirees Group and was an active volunteer at the Cancer Society Trift Store. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Dever and Elaine Hale and brother, David Sonny Gillem, Jr. Dorris is survived by her son, Steve Edwards, Oak Park, IL; sister, Linda Winnet, Nashville, TN and grandson, Kyle Edwards, Peoria, IL. ALICE R. STOREY

Alice R. Storey, 73, Shawnee, KS went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at the Sweet Life of Rosehill. A Celebration of her life will be11:00 AM, Monday, Jan. 17 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial in the Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Alice was born Sept.25, 1931 in Charleston, AR to Arthur and Verland Darr. She went to high school in Charleston and was an active basketball player there. Alice was a retail clerk at Safeway Grocery Store for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She was a very active member of Bethal Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS and later at the Quivira Baptist Church, Shawnee, KS. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Bert Storey in 1988 and daughter, Wanda Storey in 2003. BETTY IRMEN

Betty Irmen passed way in her sleep on January 31, 2005. Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, Feb. 5 at St. Pius X Catholic Church; burial in the Resurrection Cemetery. Betty was born on May 1, 1920 and grew up in the small town of Salem, Nebraska. She became an accomplished pianist at an early age and was blessed with the ability to play music by ear. She happily shared this special gift with others throughout her life, even during her final years.
Betty was valedictorian of her high school class, and after graduation attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bill. They married on August 14, 1943, and after Bill’s service in World War II, Betty and Bill established their home in the Kansas City area. After several years of working in downtown Kansas City, Betty became a full-time mom and homemaker in Mission, KS upon the birth of her two children- Doug in 1947 and Nancy in 1950.
Betty served her community as a member and officer of her children’s PTA, her ladies Circle and Women’s Club at St. Pius X Church, as cub scout and girl scout den mother, and as piano teacher to countless children. Throughout her life, Betty’s special gift to the world was her gentle spirit, her genuine kindness and good wishes for others, and her humility. Betty never put others down to feel good about herself. She believed in each person’s essential worth and goodness, no matter their wealth or social standing. Always sharply dressed, Betty had a wonderful sense of humor, and taught her children and grandchildren the joy of laughing out loud. Even at the end, Betty couldn’t help but bring herself to share the glow of her beautiful and loving smile that her family and friends will cherish in her memory.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Arthur Klima, sister Virginia Whitney, and her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband Jim Schumm; her son, Doug and his wife Monique; by grandchildren Andy, Audrey and Derek Schumm, Sara Irmen and Anne Close and her husband Troy; sisters, Marjorie Weber and Bonnie Haynes; many nieces and nephews; devoted and loving staff at Mission Springs Assisted Living; and by her constant , faithful and protective companion in her final years, her cat Ebony. DELORES M. HOYTAL

Delores M. Hoytal, 83, of Shawnee, KS, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday, January 15, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee followed by burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Delores graduated from Wyandotte High School Class of 1940. She enjoyed reading, knitting and quilting. Delores volunteered at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She enjoyed her friends and activities at the Lenexa Senior Center, along with traveling. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

JAMES DELBERT LANGE I
James Lange, 67. of Kansas City, KS passed away February 1st, 2005 at Specialty Hospital of Overland Park. Services will be held Friday February 4th, 2005 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call Thursday the 3rd, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Crest Bible Church.
Jim was born July 17th, 1937 in Kansas City, KS to George and Ruth (Marrow) Lange. He attended Rosedale High School and worked repairing televisions eventually owning and operating Jim’s TV Shop in Rosedale. He married Beverly Beals Fain September 7th, 1963 and they made their home in Kansas City, KS. Jim also worked for Interstate Bakeries until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Crest Bible Church. Jim is survived by his wife Beverly. His children Kathy Fain of Raymore, MO, Teresa Hilgardner of Kansas City, KS, Jamie Males and her husband Jon of Shawnee, James D. Lange II and his wife Sandy of Shawnee. He also leaves seven grandchildren Tommy, Teryn, Marc, Josh, Alex, Ethan and Gavin. He is survived by his sisters Betty Caster of Shawnee and Thelma King of Kansas City, KS as well as a brother Jack Lange of Kansas City, KS. William Dean Haggard
February 8, 1954 - January 6, 2005

Bill passed away peacefully at home. Private family services were held Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Antioch Pioneer Cemetery.

His gentle, kind and loving spirit will be missed by all who his life has touched, especially by his parents Forrest and Eleanor Haggard of Lenexa, KS, his brother W. A. “Skipper” Haggard of Tucson, AZ, his Sister Katherine Ann Haggard Perry and husband, Joe, of Leawood, KS, his nephew Peter Phillips of Kansas City, MO, and his cousins James A. Haggard and wife, Jan, of Aurora, CO.

Bill worshiped at the Circle of Faith Christian Church, was a member in the Ancient Form Masonic Lodge, was a Knight Commander Court of Honor of the Scottish Rite, volunteered at the WildCare Wildlife Refuge, and was an Eagle Scout.

Bill was always a genuine person and made an adventure of the everyday aspects of life. He was a care-giver to his father who has ALS and helped his family and neighbors with their daily lives. Bill enjoyed southwestern culture, movie night with his nephew, and loved all things involving nature and the out of doors.

Bill’s love of nature, plants, animals, and trees will be remembered by a memorial fund to benefit the Overland Park Arboretum. MARIE LOUISE “BUMMA” VAN MEERHAEGHE

Marie Louise “Bumma” VanMeerhaeghe, 84, Overland Park, KS passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at the Indian Creek Nursing Center, Overland Park, KS. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM, Friday, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church; burial in the Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 PM, Thursday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, KS 66216.
Mrs. VanMeerhaeghe was born Sept. 10, 1920 in Berchem, West Flander, Belgium. She moved to the Johnson County area with her family in 1956. Marie was a member of the Belgium Club and the Flemish American Club in Chicago and Shawnee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andre G. VanMeerhaeghe, April 12, 1991. Survivors include her son, Andre R. and his wife, Fran, Van Meerhaeghe, Olathe, KS; five grandchildren, Andre L. (Dana) VanMeerhaeghe, Philip (Betty Jo) VanMeerhaeghe, all of Shawnee, KS, Yvonne (Todd) Wallen, Germany, Monique VanMeerhaeghe, Kansas City, MO and Nichole Handy, Olathe, KS; and ten great grandchildren. MERRILL FOSTER

Merrill Foster, 85, of Overland Park passed away January 7, 2005. Memorial services will be held January 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The family request memorials be sent to the American Cancer Association.
Merrill was born Jan. 29, 1919 in Raymond, IL to Alonzo and Tressa Foster. He attended Raymond High School where he was Valedictorian of his class. He served over seas in the Army Transportation Corp. during WWII. He was an executive in the trucking industry for 50 years. Merrill was also a life long Republican. He is survived by his wife Virginia; daughter S. Lee Foster-Crowder; Granddaughter Channing Lee Foster-Crowder. (Arrangements: Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee 913-631-5566)

Chester E. Davis

Funeral services for Chester E. Davis, 80, Tonganoxie, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Chapel in Topeka.

Mr. Davis died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

He was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Emporia, the son of Chester and Viola Jones Davis.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1947. He worked as a switchman for Santa Fe Railway in Topeka and Emporia for 42 years and retired in 1987. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6406 in Lyndon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Kuykendall Davis, on Feb. 21, 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Chester E., Topeka, and Gary L., Tonganoxie; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Chapel before the services.

The family suggests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
