RUBY M. SHERR

Ruby M. Sherr, 93, of Smithville, MO, formerly of Shawnee, KS, passed away, Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Gower, MO Convalescent Center. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Ruby was born in St. Paul, AR and lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee and the Eastern Star Beatrice Chapter. Ruby was an original “Rosie the Riveter” at the B-25 bomber plant in Fairfax, KS.

Her husband, Ben Sherr, died in 1968. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Paul Laybourne, Platte City, MO; two grandchildren, Kindra Johnson and husband, Dan, and Brian Laybourne and wife Jaime and four great grandchildren, Trevor Johnson, Carli Johnson, Emily Denny and Alyssa Laybourne.

To honor Ruby’s love for animals, the family would like donations to Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th St., Merriam, KS 66203, in lieu of flowers.

Shirley J. Heinrichs

Shirley Jean (Sandy) Heinrichs, of Mapleton KS, born January 5, 1949 passed away on September 23, 2007. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday September 30th at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Drive., Shawnee, KS. Shirley was born in Lawrence, KS to Clarence Gordon and Virginia Lee (Bell) Sandy. She lived for many years in Kansas City, Kansas, along with her husband Raymond. There they owned and operated Carousel Cabs, "The famous Pink Cabs". Currently they own and operate Carousel Homes in Mapleton, KS. Shirley is survived by husband Raymond of the home, son Peter DeClue of Harrisonville, MO, sisters Sandra Lee Sandy, Roeland Park, KS Barbara Ann Cowher, Kansas City KS, brother William James Sandy, Lenexa, KS. Step- sons Raymond William Heinrichs & Matthew Clark Heinrichs both of Independence, MO., step-daughter Shelly Ray Brassfield, Kansas City, MO. Grandchildren Christopher, Derek & Aaron DeClue and Erin Brassfield. Great Grandson Jordan DeClue. Shirley was the author of the book 12th Street Rita, and winner of the Kansas Correctional Association media award, presented in September 2001. She will be remembered most for her loving and colorful personality along with her sharp business acumen, and legendary generosity, and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and associates. EDITH E. (DEE) McDONALD
11/4/18 – 9/1/07

Edith, age 88, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on September 1, 2007 at her home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 6 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS with memorial services to follow at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the College of the Ozarks, P.O. Box 17, Point Lookout, Missouri 65726 in memory of Edith (Campbell) McDonald or to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.

Edith was born November 4, 1918 to Jesse and Esther Campbell in Branson, Missouri. She graduated from the School of the Ozarks in 1938 and received her B.S. degree from Central Missouri Teachers College in Warrensburg, Missouri and became a high school teacher in the early years. She later worked for many years at Mahorney Furniture Store and the Caster Company. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village. Edith always enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers and cocker spaniels.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George McDonald and her first husband, Paul Dunn; her parents; step-daughter, Gail Beverlin; brother, Carl Campbell and sisters: Beuhla Chase, Lorene Tibbitt, Lois David and Norma Taylor. She is survived by her stepson, Patrick McDonald and wife, Nancy; son-in-law, Richard Beverlin; granddaughters: Diane McDonald, Karen Vaille (Lyle), Christy Adams (Justin), and Sandra Gerling (Bryan); eight grandchildren and her sisters: Mary Webster, Bessie Hill, Jessie Lincoln and Pearl Crossler; and nephew Calvin (Kay) David, and nieces and nephews.

LARRY EUGENE MOORE

Larry Eugene Moore, 59, of Lenexa, formerly of Kansas City, Kan., passed away September 27, 2007, surrounded by family and friends, after suffering a stroke on September 26. Funeral services will be held at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, followed by burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call at the chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. for visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lenexa Christian Center.

Larry was born in Kansas City, Kan., on Dec. 19, 1947, the son of Eugene K. "Jack" and Reva Moore. He was a graduate of Turner High School and attended K.C.K. Community College. In 1966, he married Constance Lee Wight, with whom he had two sons, Patrick Eugene and Shawn Michael. He served the Kansas City area as a professional photographer for over 40 years, and passed that knowledge on to his son, Shawn, teaching him his photography skills. His semi-retirement years have been spent partnering with his son Patrick, in his security business and working with his brother Curt, as a courier. Larry was an active member of Lenexa Christian Center. He married his beloved new bride, Avanell "Avie" McMullin, only seven and a half weeks ago. Larry loved people and life and never met a stranger. He had a kind, sweet spirit. His faith in God was his driving force in life. He loved socializing and was an avid fan of southern gospel music. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Reva Moore; and a niece, Aubree "Bree" Vail. He will be greatly missed by his loving family: wife, Avie; son Patrick Eugene and his daughters, Ashley and Kimberly; and great-granddaughter Rylee; son, Shawn and his wife Yvonne, and their children, Alexis, Beverly and Richard; stepson, Carl VanVliet and his wife Leila, and their children Robbie, Steven, Josiah and Rebekah; and stepdaughter, Ann Schrader and her husband Scott, and their daughter Anna; his father, Eugene Moore; his brother, Curtis Moore; and three sisters, Cynthia Hall, Rebecca Tanner and Stephanie Vaught; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. NORA L. CRAINSHAW

Nora L. Crainshaw, 79, of Overland Park KS, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Truman Medial Center.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007 at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday September 7, 2007 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

Nora was preceded in death by her husband James Monroe, and four brother’s Arnold, Rufus, Lawrence, and Bill Balke.

Survivors include one son Bob (Shionie) Gerken, Springfield, MO; two daughter’s Bonnie (Neil) Buckman, El Dorando, KS; Brenda (Richard) Cody, Raytown, MO; three step-son’s Jim (Nancy) Crainshaw Gardner, KS; Larry (Joy) Crainshaw, Shawnee, KS; and Mike Crainshaw, Olathe, KS; eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. JANICE C. KERNICKY

Janice C. Kernicky, 65, Shawnee, KS went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2007. Janice was a loving and giving mother and grandmother. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Community Covenant Church, 15700 West 87th St.. Lenexa, KS, with burial at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.

Janice was born in Kansas City, MO. She was an employee of Black and Veatch, where she retired March 2007.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Davenport. Survivors include her mother Naomi Davenport of Greenfield, MO; daughter, Michelle Kernicky of Shawnee; two sons, Jim (Alison) Kernicky of Boiling Springs, NC and Steve (Lisa) Kernicky of Olathe, KS; a brother, John (Chris) Davenport of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren, James, Timothy, Daniel, Ashley, Ryan and Kelsi.

Also surviving a dear friend, Daphne Flaharty.

Janice will be missed for her great sense of humor and infectious smile.

DIANA DEAN HEARLDSON

Diana Dean Haraldson 77, Merriam, KS passed away Monday, September 3, 2007. Private family services wil be held at a later date. Mrs. Haraldson is survived by her husband, Harold of the home. Two daughters, Nelda (Michael) Radford, Alberta, Canada; Alane (Rick) Kinn, Kansas City, MO; A brother Kay Doyle Jones, five grandchildren Ryan Day, Jennifer Day, Eric Kinn, Brianna Radford, and Kristian Radford. A niece Kathleen D. (Tom) McCormick and daughters Whitney, and Grace of San Antonio, TX a nephew Michael W. (Maya) Jones and son August of South Pasadena , CA

KRISTIN RENEE KENRICK

Kristin Kenrick, 35, of Olathe, KS, left us on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Olathe Medical Center. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday, October 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. A memorial fund for Kristin’s children has been established at US Bank, PO Box 265, Olathe, KS 66051.

Kristin was born in Kansas City, KS. She was a 1990 graduate of Olathe North High School. She has been a billing analyst for the last three years at the Sprint campus. She married Adam Kenrick on July 30, 2005 in Shawnee and he survives at the home. Additional survivors include her children, Victor Riley Kenrick, Nicholas Christian Kenrick and Luke Ellis Kenrick, all of the home. Her mother, Barbara VanHercke, and her friend Robert Pierce, Olathe, KS and her father, Gary VanHercke and his wife, Angie, Lenexa, KS; sisters, Denise Houtman and her children, Jacob and Matthew, Prairie Village, KS and Gina (Davey Schroeder) VanHercke, Overland Park, KS; paternal grandfather, Ed VanHercke, Shawnee, KS; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Barbara Kenrick, Enid, OK and a sister-in-law, Amber Kenrick, Oklahoma City, OK and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Nada and Ted Ellis and her paternal grandmother, Jeanne VanHercke.

Goodbye my beautiful, beautiful Krissy. There will never be anyone like you. Oren William (Bill) Page Jr.
July 13, 1922 – September 3, 2007

Bill died quietly at his home after a period of illness. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2007 at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, with burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Oren William and Edith Gail (Stinson) Page a brother, Donald Page, and brother –in-law Henry (Hank) Brown. Survivors include his wife Beverly (Vansandt) Page, daughter Rebecca Suzanne (Becky) Page, son John Warren Page and wife Chris,

VINCENT HENRY RIEKE

Vincent Henry Rieke left his loving family to join his parents, Henry and Alice (Earnshaw) Rieke, his sister Bess (Rieke) LeCluyse and the heavenly father on Oct 1, 2007. He entered his parents’ world in Shawnee, Ks on Oct 9, 1921, grew up on the family farm there, and attended Rockhurst, & Shawnee Mission High School. He served in WWII, after which he began Rieke Construction Company. His company built the first section of I-70 in Kansas, and many railroad beds, lakes and highways in the area are a tribute to his hard work.

One of Vince’s goals in life was to have a large family who enjoy and love each other. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Eileen Rieke, Children Joan (Rieke) Brady, Jean (Rieke) & Patrick Maguire, Lawrence & Dana Rieke, Barbara (Rieke) & Paul Hart, Steven, Donald, Jerry & Tamara Rieke, Janet (Rieke) &Alain Jablonowski, V. Lee & Jeannie Rieke. Grandchildren, Robin (Brady) & David Kreutzer, Robert & Amy Brady, Thomas and Angie Brady, Michael (Mitch) Brady, Matthew Maguire, Colby and Kristen Rieke, Michael and Sean Scott, Sami Jo, Bobby, Desirae, Kaitlyn Rieke, Danielle Jordan, Cole Rieke. Adele Haehlen Lowe

Adele Haehlen Lowe, born February 2, 1916 in West Allis, Wisconsin, died September 5, 2007 in Overland Park, Kansas. Her husband of 65 years, Ralph, predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by son Thomas (Rhonda), son Bradley (JoAnne), daughter Linda (Jerry) and son Robert (Kathlyn), grandchildren Kevin, Jessica, Courtney, Heather, Brandon, Katherine and Michael. She was predeceased by grandsons Ryan and Read. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren.

In the 1930's, Adele was the featured vocalist with the Billy Baer Band and was heard regularly on radio broadcasts in Milwaukee. The band performed at venues in and around that area and also at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago and Bear Mountain Resort in New York. A member of the band, Don Swan, wrote a song for Adele that became her signature closing number. Over the decades "Dream a Little Dream of Me" was recorded by a number of vocalists including Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and Mama Cass Elliott.

It was at an engagement of the band for her future sister-in-law, Evelyn Lowe's sorority dance that Adele met Ralph. They married in 1940 and she excelled at her chosen career as devoted wife and loving mother. Her children remember her for her unwavering care, her magnanimous love, her delightful sense of humor, her strong faith and her selfless way of living. Even during her final difficult days she never uttered a word of complaint.

A funeral mass will be said at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, Kansas at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 10th. The family requests that donations be make to a charity of one's choice in Adele's memory. Online condolences my be expressed at www.amosfamily.com.

DEBRA ALLISON

Debra Allison, 43, Shawnee, KS passed at her home peacefully in her sleep, Monday, September 10, 2007. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p..m., Friday, September 14, 2007, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with private burial. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Chapel. Debra was born in Des Moines, IA. She was a Sales Support Administrator for Pitney Bowes.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Graham. Survivors include her husband, Kent Allison of the home; a daughter Nicole Allison and a son Nicholas Allison both of the home; parents, Raymond H. and Phyllis Graham of Shawnee, KS.

Thomas James Charbonneau
1940-2007

Thomas James Charbonneau (Tom), 67, passed away on September 13, 2007 at Kansas City Hospice, after a courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by his family. Tom was born on August 30, 1940 in Falls City, NE to Paul and Beatrice Charbonneau. Tom married Patricia Cusack Feb. 2, 1963 and they had three children.

Tom spent his entire career in the insurance premium finance business, and in 1977, he founded Premium Financing Specialists (PFS). Under Tom’s leadership as CEO, PFS grew to the fourth largest premium finance company in the United States. Tom semi-retired in 2005 but remained an active part of the company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. He is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 44 years, and his children: daughter Joy and husband Darin Hall of Shawnee, KS, son Scott and wife CJ and daughter Julie and husband Scott Hardeman all of St. Louis, MO. He will also be missed by his six grandchildren: Brady and Cooper Hall, Bailey and Thomas Charbonneau, and Henry and Mitchell Hardeman.

Tom was the happiest at the Lake and in Florida, fishing, golfing and boating with his family and friends. Tom will be remembered by everyone for his kind heart, wonderful sense of humor and for being a great husband, dad, papa and friend.

Friends and family are welcome to attend visitation and funeral services at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, from 6-9pm, with the Rosary at 6pm. Funeral mass to be held the following day, Monday, September 17 at 10:00am, with burial services immediately following at Resurrection cemetery at 83rd & Quivera. WINIFRED MAE PENDERGAST

Winifred Mae Pendergast passed away peacefully on September 27, 2007. Winnie was born in Akron, Ohio, on July 20, 1927, to Henry and Mary McCloskey. She grew up there and in Cumberland, Maryland before attending Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia. While later working as a medical technician in Washington, D.C., she met and married the love of her life, Charles W. Pendergast, who survives her. Through their 58 years of marriage, Charlie and Winnie were blessed with five children, Kathryn, William, Michael, Patrick and James, one daughter-in-law, Patricia, and one very special grandson, Will Pendergast.

During her 80 years on earth, Winnie was a faithful daughter, a loving wife, a nurturing mother and a reliable friend to all who knew her. Above all else, she was a tireless and effective advocate for the mentally retarded. Through her many years as a volunteer and later member and Chairman of the Johnson County Mental Retardation Board, Winnie worked hard to make sure that those with special challenges were given the tools, love and resources needed to reach their full potential. She also practiced her vision on a daily basis by molding four special needs children of her own into the productive, happy and contributing members of society they are today. Her magnificent spirit and life-affirming vision will live on in the dreams realized by all of those she touched.

A memorial service honoring Winnie will be held on October 12, 2007, at 6:00 p.m., at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Johnson County Developmental Supports, 10501 Lackman Road, Lenexa, KS 66219-1223, or Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line Road, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
