David Elden Jackson

David Elden Jackson, 83, Tonganoxie, KS passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Providence Hospital, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2907 N. 81st Street, K.C., KS. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Palco, KS. Visitation will be one hour before service at Church.

Mr. Jackson was born August 5, 1922 in Graham County, KS, the son of David Edward and Viola Mae (Bass) Jackson. A WW II Army veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart citation for his wounds. After 40 years, he retired as a machine operator and mechanic for Simmons Mattress Co. He was a member of V.F.W. post # 5851 and Bethel Presbyterian Church, both of K.C., KS. On November 9, 1944, he was united in marriage to Doris Fountain in Hill City, KS.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; two sons, Bruce and Craig, both of Tonganoxie, KS; two daughters, Ruth Jackson, Tonganoxie and Kathleen Trisler, Coffeeville, KS; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

John A. Garrison

John A. Garrison, 84, Tonganoxie, Kansas passed away Saturday, December 17, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie, Kansas. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John was born October 24, 1921 in Wayne City, IL, the son of Thomas and Viola (Dalton) Garrison. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and worked most of his life as a union carpenter (local #168) in the Kansas City area. On March 9, 1941 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Hendricks. In his retirement years he enjoyed working on watches, listening to music and going to garage sales. He never met a stranger and would always offer to help anyone. John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; sisters, Flossy and Opal and granddaughter, Jennifer.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, of the home; two sons, Russell, Kansas City, KS and John, Victorville, CA; two daughters, Bev Oroke and Linda Garrison, both of Tonganoxie; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

William Dee Jarrett, Jr.

William Dee Jarrett, Jr., 66, Lawrence, KS, passed away Monday, December 12, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2005 at West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie, KS. A visitation will be held one hour before services.

Cremation with private inurnment will follow.

Mr. Jarrett was born February 5, 1939 in Douglas County, the son of William D. and Gladys (Bell) Jarrett. He retired in 1995 from Kansas Power & Light Company (Westar Energy). He served in the US Army and was a member of First Baptist Church, Tonganoxie and Western Star Masonic Lodge F & AM, Lawrence. A daughter, Kimberly Vonzelle Matthews, preceded him in death..

Survivors include his son, D. Dominic Jarrett, Norman, OK; daughter, Denise Michelle Thomas, Reidsville, NC; several step-sons and step-daughters; three brothers, Charles Lewis Jarrett, Lawrence, KS, Jackson Eric Jarrett, Tonganoxie, KS and Timothy Jay Jarrett, San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Edna Jane Kesinger

Edna Jane Kesinger, 87, Lansing, KS, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at Midwest Home Place, Leavenworth, KS.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Tonganoxie Friends Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm. Thursday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS. The family suggests memorials to Tonganoxie Friends Church or to the American Diabetes Association.

Edna was born on May 9, 1918 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the daughter of John E. and Fannie Mae (Godfrey) Holladay. She was united in marriage March 13, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas to Vernon J. Kesinger. She was a homemaker and also worked for the Lansing School District. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997 and son, Vernon Junior Kesinger.

Survivors include two sons, Edward L. Kesinger, Tonganoxie, KS and Freddie R. Kesinger, Lansing, KS; three daughters, LaVerna Jane Harper, St. Joseph, IL, LaVera Mae Aufdemberge, Leavenworth, KS and Brenda L. Wetzel, Leavenworth, KS; two brothers, John Edward Holladay, Lawrence, KS and Leonard Ray Holladay, Lawrence, KS; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

George E. Eldred

George E. Eldred, 75, Kansas City, KS, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center, Tonganoxie, KS.

His body was donated to science.

George was born on November 30, 1930 in Corning, New York, the son of Ernest and Marjorie (Smith) Eldred. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from CertainTeed Insulation Corp., Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Eldred in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas, Kansas City, KS, Terry, Bloomfield, NM and Darrell, Basehor, KS; one daughter, Debbie Dearinger, Basehor, KS; one sister, Rita Manley, Corning, NY; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the National Emphysema Foundation and may be sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Ezra W. Warren

Ezra W. Warren, 93, Lawrence, KS, formerly of Tonganoxie, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Ezra was born on February 22, 1913 in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of George Thomas and Phebe Elzira (Pontizius) Warren. He was a millwright for COOP Corporation, Lawrence, KS from 1954-1984. He also farmed. He was united in marriage in 1952 in Oskaloosa, KS to Florence M. (Northern) Asher. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Gary Asher, Lawrence, KS and Wesley N. Warren, Sr., Swansea, Massachusetts; two daughters, Nancy Cox, Rocky Comfort, MO and Judy Vermette, Lecompton, KS; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Homer L. Dyer, III

Homer L. Dyer, III, 58, Ozawkie, KS died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his home.

Memorial services will be 11 am Friday, April14, 2006 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, K.C., KS. He was cremated.

Mr. Dyer was born August 18, 1947 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Homer L. and Gloria (Swenson) Dyer, II. He was a Viet Nam veteran serving in both the US Army (1965-69) and Navy (1972-74).

He is survived by a son, Homer L. Dyer, IV, Kansas City, KS.

Edgar Allen Lyons

Edgar Allen Lyons, 84, Tonganoxie, KS died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the VA Medical Center, Leavenworth, KS.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. Visitation will be held from noon until service time, Thursday. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.

Edgar was born November 12, 1921 in Peru, Nebraska, the son of John and Lucy (Allen) Lyons. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, KS. He had lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kansas City, KS and Tonganoxie, KS. He was retired from Riss International, where he was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean Lyons in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Rodney, Tonganoxie, KS and Donald, Independence, MO; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Bonnie Lee Forshee

Bonnie Lee Forshee, 75, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Friday, April 21, 2006 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, McLouth, KS. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Bonnie was born on September 8, 1930 in Locust Grove, Arkansas, the daughter of Walter and Dessie (Jones) Eurssey. She was a member of West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie. Bonnie worked in the Drafting Engineering Department at Southwestern Bell, Kansas City, MO and retired after twenty-seven years. She was united in marriage to Gene Forshee on May 20, 1949 in Pleasant Grove, AR.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Forshee, of the home; two sons, Ronnie Forshee, McLouth, KS and Bobby Forshee, Tonganoxie; five daughters, Jeanne Thornton and Sharon Pickens, both of Tonganoxie, Liz Kesinger, Glenrose, TX, Debby Swallow, Columbus, TX and Diane Murry, Leavenworth, KS; one sister, Mavis Curtis, Fall City, NE; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to Leavenworth County Hospice c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Russell Dean Vassar

Russell Dean Vassar, 61, Tonganoxie, KS died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at his home.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Russell was born October 30, 1944 in Mountain Grove, MO, the son of Kenneth H. and Lela (Sanders) Vassar. He was a 1975 graduate of Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO and was a charter member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. He retired in 1995 as manager of train operations for the Union Pacific Railroad and devoted his time to being a farmer and cattleman.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen (Chaffin) Vassar, of the home; son, Mark Allen Erter, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Delana Anne Webb, Kansas City, KS; brother, Robert D. Vassar, LaTour, MO; two sisters, Twila Jean Frank, Kansas City, KS and Theda J. Stoner, Tonganoxie; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Robert Alan Hoshaw

Robert Alan Hoshaw, 56, Basehor, KS, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. The Rosary will be said at 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.

Robert was born on March 9, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Noah F. Hoshaw, Jr. and Frances E. (Gresty) Hoshaw. He was a US Air Force Vietnam veteran. He was a 1978 graduate of Cerritos College, Norfulk, CA and worked as a bank examiner for F.D.I.C., Kansas City, MO. Robert was united in marriage on April 22, 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jeanette L. Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hoshaw, Basehor, KS; one son, Ted LaVigne, Ottawa, KS; four daughters, Jeanie Jackson, Houston, TX, Lisa Phillips, Ft. Worth, TX, Michelle Quinn, Bonner Springs, KS and Bobbie Jean League, Florida; one brother, David W. Hoshaw, Fredricksburg, VA; one sister, Kathy Lynn Nivison, Stevensville, MT and 13 grandchildren.

Gilbert Jesse Sutton

Gilbert Jesse Sutton, 72, Tonganoxie, passed away Monday, April 3, 2006 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2006 at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Garden’s.

Gilbert was born on November 25, 1933 in Urbana, Missouri, the son of Howard and Sylvia (Ricker) Sutton. He was a construction worker.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Dunkin) Sutton, Tonganoxie, KS; three sons, Gilbert Keith Sutton, Bates City, MO, Don Letzig, Tonganoxie, KS and Joe Letzig, Bates City, MO; two daughters, Glenda Sutton, Blythe, CA and Barbara Wolfgeher, Independence, MO; three brothers, Wesley Sutton, Tracy, CA, Chester Sutton and Johnny Sutton, both of Blythe, CA; two sisters, Ethel Dunkin, Cole Camp, MO and Myrtie Entwistle, Blythe, CA; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

William Eugene Hicks

William Eugene Hicks, 80, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS.

William was born on August 21, 1925 at Ft. Leavenworth, the son of Harry and Florence (Leighty Ropp) Hicks. He worked as an electrician for the State of Kansas at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Lawrence, KS. His wife, Helen Johnson-Stoll Hicks, preceded him in death in 2000.

Survivors include one son, Harry Hicks, Independence, MO; three stepsons, David Stoll and Steve Stoll, both of Topeka, KS and Dan Stoll, Lawrence, KS; three daughters, Suzan Henry, Carterville, MO, Diane Hicks and Roxanne Hicks, both of Napa, CA; one stepdaughter, Debby Smoots, McLouth, KS; one brother, Robert Hicks, Lake Station, IN; 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
