Jane (Grems) Howard, 70, Lawrence, KS, passed away Saturday October 11, 2008.

Funeral service will be 11 am, Wednesday, Oct 15,2008 at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS, burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, Oct 14, 2008 at the Quisenberry Chapel.

Jane was born May 9, 1938, in Tonganoxie, KS. The daughter of Alton and Anna (Clark) Grems. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie. Jane worked as a retail clerk for Weavers, Lawrence, and retired in 2006 from Walmart, Lawrence.

Survivors include one son; Brad Howard, Lawrence; one daughter; Abbe Flowers, Lawrence; two brothers; Bill Grems, Ingelwood, CO, Jim Grems, Eudora, KS; four sisters; Jo Ann Brown, Linwood, KS, Linda Gaffney, Huntington Beach, CA, Ruth Lee, Lawrence, Virginia Ritsema, Riverside, CA; and four grandchildren

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Hospice C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Marianne “Dixie” Jones

Marianne “Dixie” Jones, 73, Linwood, KS, passed away Saturday November 22, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS.

Funeral Service will be 1 pm Wednesday November 26, 2008 at the United Methodist Church, Linwood, KS. Burial will follow in Mt. Sidney Cemetery, Linwood. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS.

She was born June 29, 1935 in New York, NY the daughter of Edward and Esther (McCracken) Dixon. She was united in marriage on Sept 6, 1957 in Linwood, to Howard G. Jones, who survives of the home. She was a 1972 graduate of The University of Kansas, and a member of the United Methodist Church, Linwood, the Social order of Beauceant, Lawrence, the K.N.E.A., the Linwood Library Club, and a life member of Sincerity Chapter OES, Kansas City, KS.

Other survivors include; two sons, Dr. Kevin, Shawnee,KS and Brian Jones, Waldorf, MD; one daughter Kerry Chaffin, Overland Park, KS; two brothers, Dr. Robert, Linwood, NJ, and Dr. Paul Dixon, Hilo, HI; and eight grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Linwood United Methodist Church, C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Janet C. Bohanon

Janet C. Bohanon, 68, Tonganoxie, KS died Friday, November 7, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS, with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery, K.C., KS. Visitation will be one hour before services.

Mrs. Bohanon was born November 16, 1939 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Harold and Bertie (Covington) Butters. She was a landlord and bookkeeper. She was a member of Olive Branch Ministries, K.C., KS. Her husband, Robert Dale Bohanon, preceded her in death October 25, 1995.

Survivors include her son, Richard, Tonganoxie; daughter, Diana Hahlbohm, North Port, FL; two brothers, Gerald and Ronald Butters; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Olive Branch Ministries.

Georgia H. Yarnall

Georgia H. Yarnall, 76, Bonner Springs, KS, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 in Glendale, OR.

Memorial Service will be 11 am Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Wyandotte County Christian Church, 13700 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS 66109. The family will receive friends for one hour before service time.

Georgia was born October 30, 1932 in Pollock, MO, the daughter of James and Dona (Hamilton) Thayer. She was a homemaker and was a manager for Gateway Toy Center, Prairie Village, KS, and later worked for Price Chopper, Bonner Springs, KS. Her husband, Clovis G. Yarnall and her daughter, Patience Melchoir, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Clovis Yarnall, Jr, Rockport, TX; Darrell Yarnall, Garden City, KS; James Yarnall, Jarbalo, KS; three daughters, Sherrie Jones, Kansas City, KS; Cheryl Seymour, Glendale, OR; Yvonne Fisher, Bonner Springs, KS; three brothers, James Thayer, Central Point, OR; William Thayer; and Victor, Thayer, both of Kansas City, KS, 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Show-Me Christian Youth Home, C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home, Box 993 Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Don E. Chastain

Don E. Chastain, 79, McLouth, KS, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008 at St. Johns Hospital, Leavenworth.

A graveside service will be 10 am, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Hubble Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Don was born February 21, 1929 in Lebanon, MO, the son of Plez and Kathryn (Evans) Chastain. Don was united in marriage on September 23, 1954 in Kansas City, KS to Elizabeth Lee Twitchel, who survives of the home. He moved to McLouth from Kansas City, KS in 1971. In 1991 he retired from Certainteed Fiberglass in Kansas City, KS as a supervisor after 38 years. He was a member of the I.B. of Teamsters Local #41, Kansas City, MO.

Other survivors include one son, Randy Earl Chastain, of the home; one daughter, Kim and husband Mark Matthias, Atchison, KS; two sisters; Mildred Lewis, Carolton, TX; Loretta Ducan, Lebanon, MO; 3 grandsons, Mark Justin (Heather) Matthias; Chad Matthias; Adam Matthias; one great grandson, Ethan Matthias.

The family suggests memorials to Chastain family fire recovery fund, C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993 Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Helen Irene Mills

Helen Irene Mills, 89, McLouth, KS, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 in Lawrence, KS.

The family will hold a private graveside inurnment.

Mrs. Mills was born on the Fourth of July, 1919, the daughter of Christian and Laura Poulsen. She was united in marriage to Clarence Dale Mills. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her son, Clarence “Butch” Mills, her brother, Sgt. Leonard I. Poulsen, stepbrother, Raymond Coleman and an infant brother. She was a homemaker who loved to read, enjoyed her flower garden and hummingbirds. Her family was the joy of her life.

She is survived by four daughters, Maxine (Ralph) Handley, Fenton, MI, Barbara (Duane) Larison, McLouth, Jeannie (JR) Parmer, Lawrence, and Kathy (John) Lewallen, McLouth; two sons, Mike Mills, Lawrence and Randy (Deb) Mills, Lawrence; one daughter-in-law, Sue Mills, Lawrence; two sisters, Evelyn Kelly, Chanute and Marie Wendt, Salina; one stepbrother, Harold Coleman, Overland Park; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

William B. Irwin

William B. Irwin, 79, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Providence Medical Center, KC, KS.

Funeral will be 10 am Saturday, January 3, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Christian Church, burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday at the church.

William was born January 27, 1929 in Danville, IL, the son of William and Ercel (Liggett) Irwin. He was united in marriage March 1, 1947 in Danville, IL to Alberta Patten, who survives of the home. William was a member of the Henri Masonic Lodge #190 AF&AM for over 50 years. He was owner of Irwin Sinclair gas station in KC,KS for 22 years and owner of Skelly Gas station in Tonganoxie for 9 years.

Other survivors include Two sons; Mike Irwin, Shawnee, KS, Stephen Irwin, Tonganoxie, KS; One daughter; Kathy Shaulis, Tonganoxie; One sister, Ruby Moulton, Danville, IL; five grandchildren, and one great grandson.

VIRGINIA L. HUBBEL

Virginia L. Hubbel, 84 of Basehor, KS passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the home. Visitation will be held 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Basehor United Methodist Church, 18660 158th Street, Basehor, KS. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Hubbel was born January 9, 1924 in Arcadia, NE, the daughter of James and Ester Runnels. She was united in marriage to Floyd M. Hubbel on November 3, 1945. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of the Basehor United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Floyd Hubbel, of the home, daughter, Diana Turner, Parkville, MO, son, Daniel Hubbel and wife, Leslie, Bonner Springs and one grandchild, Matthew Hubbel, Manhattan, KS.

Memorials may be made to the Basehor United Methodist Church, c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Virginia Lee Vickers

Virginia Lee Vickers, 70, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Virginia was born July 13, 1938 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, the daughter of Karl and Donna Dill Schreiner. She was united in marriage to Horace Vickers on March 4, 1961 in Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Vickers was a medical assistant for twenty years for Dr. Stevens Medical Office, Tonganoxie. She was a member of the Tonganoxie Reading Club.

Survivors include her husband, Horace, of the home; two sons, Shaun Vickers, Huron, SD and Eric Vickers, Lansing, KS; two brothers, Eldon Schreiner, Denver, CO and Willie Schreiner, Ft. Morgan, CO; one sister, Pat Hard, Boulder, CO and one grandson.

Kenneth Roy Sheaffer

Kenneth Roy Sheaffer, 75, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie.

Mr. Sheaffer was born March 27, 1933 in Adel, Iowa, the son of Martin and Anna McVey Sheaffer. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Heck on September 16, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Sheaffer was a graduate of McPherson College, McPherson, KS and attended Chicago University for one year of graduate studies. He worked for the Social Security Administration office in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Sheaffer was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; two sons, Martin Sheaffer, Ft. Worth, TX and Vernon Sheaffer, Tonganoxie; one brother, Jim Sheaffer, Chadron, NE and one granddaughter.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop or the United Methodist Church, c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Lemuel C. Evans, Jr.

Lemuel C. Evans, Jr., 71, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 at his home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Reno Historical Society Church, 201 W. Washington Street, Tonganoxie, KS. The family will receive friends one hour before services. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Lemuel was born June 13, 1937 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Lemuel “Hap” Evans, Sr. and Madaline Bowen Evans. He was a lifetime resident of Tonganoxie and a member of the Tonganoxie Congregational Church. He was united in marriage to Judith Wiley on November 6, 1978 in Miami, Oklahoma. He proudly served in the US Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion, the Henri Masonic Lodge #190 AF and AM and the International Order of Odd Fellows, all of Tonganoxie. Mr. Evans was actively involved in the community by building homes around the area and developing the Northstar subdivision. He was co-owner of Evans Real Estate and sold real estate and insurance for 50 years in Leavenworth County. Mr. Evans was instrumental in starting the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce. Lem was a very devoted dad and loving father to his three daughters.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth, Annette, and Gwynne Evans, all of Tonganoxie; one brother, J.W. Evans, Tonganoxie, KS.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Hospice c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
