Bobby Lee (Bob) Pulley, 77,Tonganoxie, KS. Beloved husband, daddy, grandfather, great-grandfather. Bob went to Jesus at 9:10 am on March 19th at his home from complications of Parkinson’s that he had been so brave with for many years. A big “thank you” to Dr. Michael Monaco for giving him more life with us all for many years. Visitation on Sunday from 4-6 pm, funeral service will be 10 am Monday, both at Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, south of Tonganoxie on 24-40 Highway.

Bob was born October 20, 1931 at Eldridge, MO in a log cabin next to the Niangua River to Lloyd A. and Erma Ruth (Hanford) Pulley. Bob moved to Tonganoxie as a teenager where he met the love of his life, Selma. He moved to Tonganoxie when his mother married Herman Kroge. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Virginia, his mother and father-in-law, Walter George and Anna Elizabeth Denholm, whom he loved so much and they in return. Also, his sisters-in-law, Anna Mary (Paul) Doege and Georgina (Don) Himpel who were his KU basketball buddies, along with his beloved great-nephew, Jon Paul Mills.

Bob graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1949 and was a co-captain of the basketball team. He played basketball, football and track. He joined the Air Force on October 24th, 1950 and was discharged on October 24, 1954. He was on Strategic Air Command based in Tucson, AZ, London, England, and Smokey Hill in Salina, KS. He graduated from Moeller Barber College in Kansas City, MO in February 1956. He barbered in Tonganoxie until July 3rd, 1957 when the barbershop and three other buildings collapsed. He escaped with his life. He then went to work in Prairie Village, KS until 1999 when the Parkinson’s forced him to retire or he would still be barbering. Bob and Selma I. Denholm were married November 12th, 1954. His son Rockey R. was born in 1955 and Georgette L. was born in 1957. Our children, two grandsons, Rockey L. and Buster R. and for several years our granddaughter, Shealene, were raised in the same loving home.

Bob was a life member of Dwight Cowles American Legion, Overland Park, KS. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church since 1960 and was a Sunday school 1st grade teacher. Bob was a lifelong PTA member for his children and grandchildren in which he was very active. He was Cub Scout leader for his son and went to camp with his son and grandsons. He coached his son’s basketball team in junior high school where they won their division. He went to the NAIA basketball tournament each year with his basketball team on Mondays, which was his day off. He coached his daughter's basketball and fast-pitch softball teams from 3rd grade through high school. They won the City Wide Basketball Tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, KS. He was instrumental in changing the Mission Swim Team from city meets to AAU rules, which was a more difficult league. His son and daughter swam for the Mission Swim Team. He judged and timed every meet for his grandsons and granddaughter. His grandsons went on to swim at state Meet in Manhattan, KS, where Rocky Lee won 1st place in all 6 events. Buster won in all his events on the championship tournament at Leawood and won the division. Rockey went on to swim at state at KU, Lawrence while in high school.

He never missed any activity of his children and grandchildren whenever possible. He was so proud of all of Desirae Rieke's academic achievements and proud that she was on the drill team. When she was crowned homecoming queen, Pappa was in the front row in his wheelchair and after she was crowned, she ran to Pappa and sat on his lap and they hugged and kissed.

Bob was an avid fan of KU basketball since 1947. Until a month or so ago, he could tell you every coach and most players. His dream was to have a grandchild graduate from KU. Desirae fulfilled that dream. His greatest dream was to see her walk down that hill on graduation day in May. Now he will have the greatest seat in the stadium. He was so proud of his granddaughter, Samantha Jo Rieke in all of her accomplishments in Special Olympics basketball. He taught her to dribble a basketball at 1 1/2 years of age. He never missed her games and state games until his health forbid it. Sami Jo gave her grandpa her most important metal from state and he hung it on our thermostat where he could see it at all times. Bobby Lee Rieke came to live with us right after high school in our home in Mission. He was so proud of how well everyone at HyVee (right around the corner from our home) liked him. Bobby Lee still lives in our home in Mission.

He is survived by wife, Selma, Sons, Lloyd (Lucy) and Rockey, and daughter, Georgette (David) Shoemaker, grandchildren, Rocky Lee (Michelle), Buster (Misty), Shealene (Ryan), Sami Jo, Bobby, Desirae, Chad, Kurt, Shaun, Heather, Jed, great-grandchildren, Noah, Brynn, Blake, Bailey, Chase, Alexa, Jenna, and many extended family members and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Desirae Rieke's college fund. The wearing of Jahawk apparel is appropriate for the visitation and funeral service.
