Donald N. Strunk
1917 - 2007
A celebration of life for Donald Neal "Pup" Strunk, 90, Salt Lake City, was Sunday, Dec. 16, at Arbor Manor Reception Center in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Strunk died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, in Sandy, Utah.
He was born May 3, 1917, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a longtime resident of Lawrence, and also lived in Utah. He returned to Lawrence in 1978 and later moved to Salt Lake City in February 2004.
Mr. Strunk transferred from the Hercules Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in Kansas to Hercules in Bacchus, Utah, in 1958 and retired in 1978.
He married Juanita "Billie" Lefferd on Dec. 23, 1941, in Lawrence. She died in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Strunk and Don Strunk; a sister, Lois Swinford, Joliett, Ill.; a brother, Gene Strunk, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Friday
1940 - 2008
De Soto - Memorial services for Robert (Bob) E. Friday, 67, De Soto, were May 12 at Hillcrest Christian Church in Overland Park. Burial followed at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens
Mr. Friday died May 5, 2008.
He was born November 22, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Doris and Evan Friday. He was employed as an electrical engineer with Honeywell where he had worked for more than 40 years. He was a longtime member of the De Soto Planning Commission.
Mr. Friday is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl Friday of the home; son Kevin; daughter Denise; and two brothers Richard and Phillip Friday, Minnesota.
Memorials and family condolences may be left at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel.

Michael Murray Wilson
Overland Park - Memorial services for Michael Murray Wilson, 58, Overland Park, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 7023 W. 71st St. in Overland Park. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be in De Soto cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Wilson died May 12, 2008, after a long battle with diabetes.
He was preceded in death by his father Murray F. Wilson and a grandson, Brett Michael Ross. He is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Janet Wilson of the home; his mother Phyllis Wilson, Shawnee, step mother Janet Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz.,; sister Cindi Nitschke, Stanley, step brother Peter Hansen, San Francisco, Calif.,; two daughters Susan Ross and husband, Ben, Linwood, and Pam Bull and her, husband, Ed, Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
The family suggest contributions to the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri, 6405 Metcalf Ave,, Suite 204, Overland Park, KS, 66202.
Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel of De Soto was in charge of arrangements.

Donald J. "Steve" Boehm
1928 - 2008
Paola - Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Joseph "Steve" Boehm, 80, Paola, was Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Baldwin City. Burial was in Mount Calvary Catholic cemetery in Baldwin City.
Mr. Boehm died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Country Club Estates in Paola.
He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Lenexa, the son of Oliver and Rosa Bross Boehm. He grew up in Lenexa and attended schools there.
Mr. Boehm worked on his farm in Lenexa until 1985, when he moved to Baldwin City.
He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Baldwin City and a past member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa.
He married Eldora L. Edgerton on Dec. 29, 1956. She died May 21, 2000.
Mr. Boehm was also preceded in death by an infant son, Allen Joseph; a brother, Clarence; and a sister, Ethel Balke.
Survivors include his four daughters, Cathi Glanville, Kansas City, Mo., Beth McConnon, Las Vegas, and Donna Klein and Ann Stein, both of Leawood; six sons, Steven Boehm, Harker Heights, Texas, Mark Boehm, Shawnee, Greg Boehm, De Soto, and Bill Boehm, Jeff Boehm and David Boehm, all of Wellsville; two sisters, Mabel Fry and Betty Cox; two brothers, Larry Boehm and Ralph Boehm; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
The family suggests memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice, sent in care of the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66066.

Pamela S. Brandt
1951 - 2008
Services for Pamela Sue Brandt, 56, Olathe, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at De Soto Baptist Church. Burial will be at De Soto Cemetery.
Ms. Brandt died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born July 30, 1951, in Lawrence, the daughter of Harry D. and Wilma L. Sutterfield Clark. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1969.
Ms. Brandt received her bachelor of science degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University and her masters from Emporia State University. She was a fourth-grade teacher at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School in the Olathe school district.
She moved to Olathe in 1980 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olathe.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Brandt, Olathe; and several cousins.
An infant son, Jason, and a sister, Harriet Jannie Clark, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of Bruce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 192, Gardner 66030.

Benny Clark
1931 - 2007
Graveside services for Benny Clark, 76, Clearview City, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at De Soto Cemetery.
Mr. Clark died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Pratt, the son of Albert and Bessie Clark.
Mr. Clark had retired from the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.
He married Jo Ann Clark. They later divorced. She survives, of Eudora.
Other survivors include three daughters, Leisa Rajewski, Topeka, Danella Walburn, Lawrence, and Danetta Clark, Eudora; and five grandchildren.
Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Rayn M. Mandich
2006 - 2008
Memorial services for Rayn M. Manich will be at 3 pm. Thursday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto.
The 1-year old daughter of Daniel Mandich and Tara O'Sullivan of Topeka died Jan. 1, 2008, at Children's Mercy Hospital. She was born May 30, 2006.
Survivors include her parents; paternal grandparents Danny and Dee Mandich of De Soto; and maternal grandparents Brian Sandusky of Carlisle, Idaho, and Michelle Sandusky of Topeka.

Charles E. Short 1920 - 2004
DODGE CITY — Charles E. Short, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
He was born June 21, 1920, at Kinsley, the son of Norval Earl and Fannie Felgner Short. He was a 1939 graduate of Kinsley High School after which he worked at a service station for a short while. A lifetime area resident, he was a self-employed floor covering mechanic for 30 years and later was a parts supervisor at National Beef, Liberal, retiring in 1986.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Liberal Friends church, Liberal, and a life member of Howard Gotschall Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1714, Dodge City.
On July 14, 1940, he married Vera Ann Simmons at Kinsley. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Delilah Winkler and husband Edward of Hoisington, Carole Racy and husband Jules of Ensign, and Judy Kaye Stevens and husband Donald D. of Wichita; a brother-in-law, Louis Rosproy of WaKeeney; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lauren and Lowell Short; and a sister, Delilah Rosproy.
Funeral service will be at noon Friday, Sept. 3, at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel of Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at the Kansas Veterans cemetery at Ft. Dodge with military rites by Ft. Riley.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or Manor of the Plains, both in care of the funeral chapel.

Ione Julian 1922 - 2004
HUTCHINSON — Ione Julian, 81, died Aug. 30 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 29, 1922, on the family farm in rural St. John, the daughter of Leslie and Lucille Jones Francis. She married Clinton Julian on March 22, 1942, at St. John. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a school secretary and homemaker.
Mrs. Julian was a member of Carey Park Womens Golf League and numerous bridge clubs.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Janice Stone of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Marsha Murphy of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Thaine Francis of Great Bend; three sisters, Lorraine Procelli of Sparks, Calif., Beverly Jones of Hutchinson and Donna McAfee of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Vaughn Francis; one sister, Imogene Means; and a grandson, Michael Julian Stone.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Gary Salmans officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice, in care of the mortuary.

Sharon Mendenhall 1942 - 2004
LA CROSSE — Sharon S. Mendenhall, 62, La Crosse, Kan., died Aug. 31, 2004, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kan. She was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Rush Center, Kan., the daughter of Jerry S. and Edna M. (West) Liggett. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a law enforcement 911 dispatcher for Barton County. From 1964 to 1966 she served as Rush County Sheriff.
Mrs. Mendenhall was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gamma Zeta Sorority, Eastern Star and was the Republican Party Chairwoman for Rush County. She received a 20-year service award from the Barton County Communications.
On September 16, 1960, she married Jack N. Mendenhall in Wichita, Kan.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Mendenhall of La Crosse; two daughters, Cheryl L. Moeder and her husband Kevin of La Crosse, and Jody L. Mendenhall of Victoria, Kan.; two brothers, John Liggett and Donald “Donnie” Liggett, both of Rush Center; two sisters, Doris Witthuhn and Judy McCoy, both of Hays; and two grandsons, Matthew Moeder and Marcus Moeder, both of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Duane “Jake” Liggett and an infant brother, Vernon Liggett; and an infant sister, Lorna Liggett.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Janousek Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse. Memorials may be made to the Rush County Amusement Association.

GARFIELD — Thelma “Mae” Meckfessel, 87, died Aug. 30 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. Service is pending and will be announced by Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Frank Ryan Vondra 1979 - 2004
Frank Ryan Vondra, 25, died Aug. 28 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 17, 1979, at Ellsworth, the son of Frank D. Vondra and Carolyn Campbell Johnson. A long-time Great Bend resident, he was a laborer.
Vondra enjoyed playing guitar and playing pool.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Carolyn and Mike Johnson of Great Bend; father and step-mother, Frank D. and Jeri Vondra of Little River; brother Darrick Vondra, Great Bend; half-brother, Travis Campbell of Denver, Colo.; step-brother, Joshua Scripsick of Larned; step-sister, Cindy Spreier of Larned; grandparents, Frank W. and Mary Jane Vondra of Geneseo, and Jack Campbell of Larned; step-grandfather, William Johnson, Ellinwood; and special friend Terra Dacarlis.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 1, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Reggie Urban officiating. Following a luncheon, burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
