Dale E. Wilson

Dale E. Wilson, 78, of Wellington, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the First United Methodist in Wellington, with the Rev. Brent Clayton officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Dale was born July 3, 1929, in Wellington, the son of Richard and Alice Roseman Wilson. He owned and operated the Wellington Implement Company in Wellington until retiring from the family business in 1991. He later worked for Sauder Lygrisse GMC and the Green Briar Basket Company. Survivors include his wife, Glenna Finley Wilson, of Wellington; sons, Craig Wilson, of Wellington, Doug Wilson, of Wellington; daughter, Cyndee Pollock, of Wichita; two stepchildren, Jeff Masonhall, of Wellington, and Karen Reed, of Mulvane; sisters, Verdel Krug, of Springfield, Mo., and Wilma Cain, of Raleigh Durham, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Katheryn (Lightcap) Wilson.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church parsonage fund. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington.

George "Bud" Madden

George "Bud" Madden, 84, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor, in Arkansas City.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Arkansas City.

Donald Colbert

Donald Colbert, 72, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at his residence.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Lester L. Jordan

Lester L. Jordan, 73, Wellington, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Slate Creek Good Samaritan Village in Wellington. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Cremation has been effected. Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Burden, he was the son of Leonard and Hazel (Peter) Jordan. He was an iron worker for 25 years before forming his own company, LL Jordan Associates. His hobbies include remote control airplanes and horses. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Jordan, Wichita; sons, Rex Jordan, Goodman, Mo., Brad Jordan, Goodman, Mo., and Randy Jordan, Hendersonville, Tenn.; sister, Janet Kindt, Winfield; 15 grandchildren; and 19-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Jordan.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Nila Delores Howell

Nila Delores Howell, 91, homemaker, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Hillside Funeral Home East. A graveside service followed at 1 p.m in the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale. Born Nov. 9, 1915, in Hewins, she was the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Gordon. Survivors include a sister, Wanda Henderson, Arkansas City; daughter, Verlene Hartup, Emporia; son, Bill, of Wichita; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob.
The family reqests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Sunflower Lane at Larksfield Place or the Know Your Bible television program sponsored by the Northside Church of Christ. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hillside Funeral Home East, Wichita.

Wendell Claire Fjelstad

Wendell Claire Fjelstad, 84, Hutchinson, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at the Hutchinson hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. John Warring will officiate. Interment will be in the Soldier Cemetery in Soldier, Kan. Masonic services will be conducted by the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 AF&AM and military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Born June 22, 1922, in Stanley, N.D., he was the son of Peder Paul and Aleitha Blanche Martin Fjelstad. He was a salesman for the Kansas Gas Service Co., working in Topeka, Hiawatha and Arkansas City, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his daughters, Marti Thompson, of McPherson, Margalis Fjelstad, of Monument, Colo., and Jane F. Clark, of Dhahran, Saudia Arabia; half brothers, Don Waller, Longmont, Colo., and Dale Waller; sisters, Lynn Hatch, Sacramento, Calif., and Lorna Kramer, Walnut Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Margaret (Walker) Fjelstad; brothers, Charles, Ralph and Faye Fjelstad; and an infant sister, Clarissa Fjelstad.
A memorial has been established for the Shriners Hospital for Children. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Betty J. (Graber) Means

Betty J. (Graber) Means, age 80, of Ashland, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Heyl Funeral Home, Ashland, Ohio. Interment will be in Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Born Feb. 21, 1926, in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of Dee and Lela (Brooks) Murrah. She returned to Ashland in 2000 where she was a homemaker and formerly a nurse at the Good Shepherd Home. Survivors include two sons, Dee Graber, of Ashland, and Bobby Graber, of Ashland; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Wheeler, of Wichita, and Margaret Reed, of Arkansas City. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert W. Graber in 1983 and Lloyd Means in 2002.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Heyl Funeral Home, Ashland, Ohio.

Janet Louise Floyd Boxberger

Janet Louise Floyd Boxberger, of Ponca City, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in Wichita. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lynn Schuyler, associate pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiated. Interment followed in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, at 1:30 p.m. Born July 9, 1947, in Pryor, Okla., she was the daughter of Odie and Betty (Cain) Floyd. Janet became a beautician working from her home. She helped her husband with his mechanic business, Lloyd's Auto, until his death. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Holloway, of Fairfax, Okla.; two grandchildren; one brother, Odie Dean Floyd, of Ponca City. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Vern (Hain) Boxberger; brother Gerald Floyd; and her parents, Odie and Betty Floyd.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Ponca City Humane Society, 900 W. Prospect, Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements were under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.

Flossie M. Kirkendall

Flossie M. Kirkendall, 83, longtime Newkirk resident, died Thursday morning, Feb. 15, 2007, at her home.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Edith M. Dodge

Edith M. Dodge, 84, McPherson, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, in McPherson.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

H.A. Walling

H.A. Walling, 87, Arkansas City, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Mary Oller

Funeral services for Mary Oller, 88, Arkansas City, who died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Pastor Norman Reeves, chaplain, Hospice Care of Kansas, officiated. Interment was in the Maple City Cemetery. Eulogy was given by Dale Jennings. Special music was by Norman Reeves and Jimmy Davis. Casket bearers were David Monasmith, Wayne Buell Jr., Darold McKinnes, Kyle Buell and Bobby Davidson.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Charles Paul Carter

Funeral services for Charles Paul Carter, 59, Arkansas City, who died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Church of Christ. Brother Gratz Brown officiated. Interment was in the Rosewald Cemetery, Guthrie, Okla. Song leader was Brother Floyd Adkins. Prayer was given by Brother T. H. Johnson. Eulogy was by Brother Gratz Brown. Casket bearers were Chico Ansley, Daniel Canady, William Brantley, Henry Stevenson Sr., Gary Wilson, Jeremy Walker, Justin Winegarner and Henry Stevenson Jr. Honorary casket bearers were Gratz Brown, T.H. Johnson, Carl Stevenson, Ervin Work, Ben Johnson, Althos Stroughter and Bill Powers.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Virginia Mae Austin

Virginia Mae Austin, 84, lifelong Newkirk resident, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, in the Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. James Hollifield, minister of the First United Methodist Church, of Newkirk, officiating. Interment will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, to visit with friends. Virginia Mae Austin was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Newkirk, the daughter of William Bryan and Nora Mable (Biddle) Austin. In 1943, she began employment at Albright Title & Trust Company in the abstract department. She became absract manager in 1974 and retired June 1990 as manager of Albright Abstract and Title Guaranty Company. Survivors include one nephew, Bill Austin, of Oklahoma City; two nieces, Lenora Browning of Houston, Texas, and Laura Austin-Lewellen of San Marcos, Calif.; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, William Biddle Austin.
A memorial fund has been established with the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Sanjuana C. Juanita "Mary" Garcia

Sanjuana C. Juanita "Mary" Garcia, 86, Arkansas City, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Charles Seiwert will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Mary was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Perry, Okla., to Phillip and Guadelupe (Reyez) Terronez. She was reared and educated in Perry. She married Nicholas R. Garcia on Jan. 15, 1943, in Perry. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Mary was a homemaker, but also worked as a cook for the El Taco and Eagle's Nest restaurants. Mary was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a member of the American G.I. Forum auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Ford and her companion, Delbert Rains, of Bethany, Okla., Maria Archer, of Severn, Md., Barbara and her husband, Kent Booher, of Arkansas City; a son, Nick Garcia Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Midwest City, Okla.; four brothers, Phillip Terronez, of Houston, Texas, Joseph Terronez, of Arkansas City, Robert and Manuel Terronez, both of Perry; three sisters, Julia Contreras, Culver City, Calif., Virginia Tovar of Perry, Okla., Romona Lopez of Beavercreek, Ohio; her grandchildren she lovingly called by the nicknames she gave them, Christopher (Crisscross Applesauce) Grose, Jon (John Brown) Archer and his wife, Sarah, Jason (Silly Rabbit) Grose and his wife, Carrie, Lisa (Mona Lisa) Hadley and her husband, Cutter, Sharon (Sugar) Borror and her husband, Kelly, Tammy (Tam) Leishear and her husband, Jimmy, Kary (Billy Martin) Booher, Jennifer (Cricket) Booher, James (Bonzo) Garcia; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Stephanie Grose, Gehrig and Drake Borror, Joshua, Michael, and Maria Hadley, Jarrett, Elizabeth, and Jarrod Leishear. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five sisters, Patricia Padilla, Nora Trillo, Lupe Wills, Irene Francis and Mariqueta Terronez.
A memorial has been established with Lincoln/Pals Library Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Blaine B. Harp

Blaine B. Harp, 83, Winfield, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Winfield. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday. Born Dec. 15, 1924, in Wetumka, Okla., she was the daughter of William O. and Ruby (Widner) Burk. She was a nurse at William Newton Hospital for a few years. Survivors include her son, Stanley Harp, Burlington, Colo.; daughter, Kim Pringle, Winfield; sisters, Dorothy Arnett and Bonnie Virden, both of Arkansas City; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlyn F. Harp; brothers; Billy Burk, Edwin Burk and Ronald Burk; sisters, Lillian Swaim, Vivian Post, Betty White, Helen Rutter, Lorraine Bessire and Barbara Denish.
A memorial scholarship fund has been established through the Legacy Foundation in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home or Legacy. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Jerry Lebeda

Jerry Lebeda, 83, of Wellington, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Wellington. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in the Stewart Chapel. The Rev. Brent Clayton will officiate. Interment will be in the Czech Cemetery in Caldwell. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday. Born Sept. 29, 1924, in Caldwell, he was the son of Perry and Nary Soper Lebeda in Caldwell. Jerry farmed all of his life in the Caldwell area retiring in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Lebeda, of Wellington; his sons, Mark Lebeda, of Wellington and David Lebeda, of Wichita; daughter, Karen Lebeda Gifford and husband, Mark, of Wellington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established with the Czech Cemetery in Caldwell. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home. Wellington.
