Franklin S. Karr

Franklin S. Karr, 78, Fond du Lac, Wis., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Manor-Care health Services. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The Rev. Les Ludvigsen officiated. Inurnment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Horicon, Wis. Cremation has been effected. Born Aug. 4, 1929, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Frank and Knote Holmes Karr. He was a custodian with Wisconsin Power and Light for 25 years, retiring in 1991. Survivors include his wife, Anna (Gosse-Bacon) Karr, resident of Manor Care Health Services; three daughters, Anne Orvis, Carol Seeman and Linda Bogenschneider, all of Fond du Lac; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce (Pederson) Karr; and an infant son and daughter.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.

James Rosiere

James Rosiere, 60, Manchester, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at the Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel. Father Charles Howell officiated. Interment followed in the Byrd Cemetery at Sexton Creek. James was born in Arkansas City. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Rosiere; two sons, James Rosiere Jr. and Leo Rosiere, both of Kansas; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gloria Bahruth, Arkansas City, David Rosiere, Pat Brown and Mary Young, all of Kansas.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Manchester, Ky.

Floyd Edward Dowel

Graveside services for Floyd Edward Dowell, 84, who died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Wilson, Coffeyville, officiated. Military honors were by Spencer-Ralston Post No. 1254 VFW, Arkansas City.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

William "Bill" Lee Harader

William "Bill" Lee Harader, 84, of Arkansas City, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Medicalodge East. Cremation has been effected. A memorial service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at the Riverview Cemetery. Pastor Steven Baily will officiate. Bill was born May 26, 1923, east of Arkansas City to Daniel and Gracie M. (Dowler) Harader. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City graduating from Arkansas City High School. In February 1943, Bill was drafted into the Army. While in the Army, Bill became staff sergeant, served in World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On May 26, 1948, Bill married Ruth Gann. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Bill worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman and supervisor until his retirement in 1988. Survivors include his two sons, Robert L. Harader, Gerald Harader, and his wife, Wanda, all of Arkansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren, Shannon Harader, of Wichita; Robert Harader Jr., of Newkirk, Okla., and James Harader, of Arkansas City. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and three brothers, Derbert, Roy and Dick.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Richard T. Krout

Richard T. Krout, 77, of Arkansas City, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City, Kan. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City, Kan., with the Pastor Jack Dickson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Richard Theodore Krout was born on Feb. 18, 1931, in Cedar Vale, Kan., the son of Kinney Theodore and Gladys Louise Duncan Krout. He was a 1949 Arkansas City High School graduate. He was a member of the National Guard for 11 years. On June 30, 1951, he was united in marriage with JoRita Richards in Arkansas City, Kan. Richard worked on the Santa Fe Railroad from 1949 until his retirement in 1989. He was also a union president while working for Santa Fe. Richard enjoyed crappie fishing, hunting, bird watching and woodcarving. He and JoRita traveled overseas and spent time at Grand Lake. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, JoRita Krout, of Arkansas City; sons, Stephen Krout, and wife Vicky, of Papillion, Neb., and Rick Krout, and wife Jennifer, of Arkansas City; sister Barbara Orman, of Arkansas City; grand children Kyle Krout, of South Haven, Stephanie Goad, and husband John, of Louisville, Ky., Nancy Glasmann, and husband Dave, of Belle Aire, Kan., Josie, Maggie and Duncan Krout, all of Arkansas City, Kan.; and great-grandchildren Caden Goad, Kyler Krout, Perry Joe Krout, Mackenzie Glasmann and Jacob Glasmann. Preceding him in death are his parents, son Kevin T. Krout in 1959, brothers Billy G. Krout and Jimmy Krout and great-granddaughter Gabrielle Glasmann.
A memorial has been established with the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Contributions may be left with the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home & Crematory of Arkansas City.

Monty Ray Coble

Monty Ray Coble, 75, of Arkansas City, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Medicalodge East. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Monty was born July 11, 1933, in Tulsa, Okla., to Francis L. and Lydia E (Williams) Coble. He was reared and educated in Oklahoma and Sun City, Kans. He married Margaret Ann Hephner on Feb. 18, 1950, in Wichita. Monty owned and operated Coble's Lawn Service and drove a truck for Missouri-Pacific Trucklines. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1969 where he owned and operated A.C. Warehouse Trucklines, Midwest Waste Disposal, Coble Trucking and A.C. Express. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include three daughters: Mary Ellen Robillard, of Wichita, Marjorie Pinkston, of Arkansas City, Melissa Flower, of Wichita; one son, Monty F. Coble, of Winfield; a brother, James Moore, of Miami, Okla.; two sisters, Patty Rue, of Chelsea, Okla., Bobbie McQueen, of Claremore, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, three brothers: Jerry Coble, Joe McGeary and Gene Cravens; and a sister, Ruthie Morris.
The family suggests memorials be given to Heartland Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. .

Michael "Mike" Lee McEachern

Michael "Mike" Lee McEachern, 61, of Wellington, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at his home in Wellington, Kan. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington with Pastor Virgil Swift officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., at the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home. Michael "Mike" Lee McEachern was born on Oct. 18, 1947, in Wellington, Kan., the son of Leo and Dorothy Higgins McEachern. Mike worked at the U.S. Post Office for most of his career. Surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife Rise McEachern, of Wellington; son Shawn McEachern, and wife Crystal, of Wellington; daughter Christy Bales, and husband Mark, of Wellington; his mother, Dorothy McEachern, of Wellington; sister Rose Goodrum, and husband Dick, of Mayfield; grandchildren: Morgan McEachern, Lane McEachern, Blake Bales and Lauren Bales. Preceding him in death are his father, Leo McEachern, and brother, Jim McEachern.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association and may be left with the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home, 704 N. Washington, Wellington, KS.

Charlene F. Dixon

Charlene F. Dixon, 78, of Weslaco, Texas, and former Winfield, Kan., resident, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at her home in Weslaco. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment ceremonies will be held at 2:30 p.m., at the Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, Kan. Born on June 3, 1930, in Pratt, Kan., she was the daughter of Dwight and Della (Ewbank) Cromer. Charlene was the bookkeeper at the Winfield Co-op from 1968 until 1972. Charlene is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home; her son, Larry Dixon, and wife Jill, of Wichita, Kan.; her daughter, Ginger Glenn, of El Dorado, Kan.; her sister, Coeta Strothman, of Pratt, Kan.; her grandchildren, Corey Dixon, and wife Nicole, and Rusty Glenn; and her great-grandchild, Shawn Dixon. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established in Charlene's name with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Elizabeth Pochel

Elizabeth Pochel, formerly of Arkansas City, died Dec. 11, 2008, at the Century Villa Nursing Home, Cathedral City, Calif. Cremation has been effected. A memorial service will be held at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Candace Yvonne Cox

Funeral services for Candace Yvonne Cox, 23, Arkansas City, who died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Russell Fincham officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Organist was Melba Maechtlen. Juletta Hutson was speaker. Casket Bearers were Jake Moorman, Lee Moorman, Brian Hudson, Andres Ramirez, Pedro Mejia and Adrian Royez.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home & Crematory, Arkansas City.

Gale George Paton

Gale George Paton, 84, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kan. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Russell Fincham will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16.
A memorial has been established with Cowley College or the Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. . Arrangements are under the direction of Rindt-Erdman Funeral Services of Arkansas City.

Dr. Rod D. Stoy

Dr. Rod D. Stoy, 59, of Ark City, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services are pending with Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Thurston Reeves

Thurston Reeves, 93, of Vinita, Okla., died Dec. 14, 2008.

Jerry Joe Bailey

Jerry Joe Bailey, 52, of Ark City, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008.

Harold Giles

Harold Giles, 68, of Newkirk, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Northwest Specialty Hospital in Enid, Okla.
Services are pending with Miller-Stahl Funeral Service in Newkirk.

Ross Todd Boyer

Ross Todd Boyer, 24, Norman, Okla., formerly of Chickasha, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, in Australia. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Full Gospel Church in Chickasha with Rev. Alice Wendling officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in the Springside Cemetery in Arkansas City. Born March 12, 1979, in Chickasha, he was the son of Bobby Johnson and Bobbi Boyer Johnson. Todd was currently employed with Akerman Construction, working in Australia. Survivors include his wife, Melissa Rae Boyer of the home; daughter, Kaleigh Shyan Boyer of the home; his parents, Bobby and Bobbi Johnson of Cement, Okla.; sister, Danielle Weedn of Cement; sister, Trista Johnson of Cement; mother and father-in-law, Bruce and Robin Provent of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; grandmothers, Sharon Boyer, Pat Ecker and Jackie Byford. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bobby Darrell Boyer; great-grandfather, Keith Darrell Boyer; great-grandmothers, Hattie Marie Boyer and Guyneth Hale.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.

Morris John "Jack" Pollock

Morris John "Jack" Pollock, 81, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, in the Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Born May 24, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Emma Hopkins and Morris John Pollock. He had a 33 year career with the government as a registered professional engineer. Survivors include his four sons, John of Houston, Texas, Stephen of Las Cruces, N.M., Tom of Caldwell, Texas, and Robert of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mary (Cole) Pollock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 East Montana Ave., Las Cruces, N.M. 88005. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
