Floyd L. "Bud" Lowe

Floyd L. "Bud" Lowe, 95, former Burden resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at the Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in the New Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m Friday. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Born June 30, 1912, on a farm northeast of Winfield, he was the son of Walter A. and Bernice H. (Young) Lowe. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. Survivors include his wife, Grace (Womacks) Lowe, of Winfield; daughters, Jacquelyn Lowe Russell, Winfield, and Janyth Lowe Kunneman, Okarche, Okla.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carol Lowe.
A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Kathleen Stewart Hicks

Kathleen Stewart Hicks, 54, Oxford, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at her home in Oxford.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Oxford Funeral Service, Oxford.

Wanda Marie Rickords

Wanda Marie Rickords, 82, of Arkansas City died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Pastor Robert Ferris will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Wanda was born Oct. 12, 1925, to Elmer L. Clark and Layla V. (Franklin) Clark in Perkins, Okla. She attended Arkansas City schools graduating from the high school. On June 9, 1942, she married Albert L. Rickords in Arkansas City where the couple made their home. Wanda was a bookkeeper for Shutlers Grocery and Total Petroleum. She was also a member of the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. Wanda is survived by her children, Bill Rickords and Vickie Rickords, of Wichita, Bob Rickords, and his wife, Pam, of Lone Grove, Okla.; grandchildren, Stacey Sprayberry, and husband Greg, of Moore, Okla., Teresa Holloway, and husband Jim, of Arkansas City, Robert "Bobby" Rickords, and wife Lauren, of Ft. Worth, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1962 and a sister, Lillie Mae Snodgrass.
A memorial has been established with the Central Christian Church Renovation Project. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City is in charge of the arrangements.

Floy Aurilla (Staats) (Plush) Comly

Floy Aurilla (Staats) (Plush) Comly, 89, Arkansas City, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at William Newton Hospital of Winfield.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Born Aug. 3, 1914, in Pratt County, she was the third of 12 children of Floyd A. and Mattie (Moore) Staats. She was reared and educated in the Coats, Kan., area.

On Oct. 18, 1933, she married Jerrold W. Plush in Fairmount, N.D. The couple had four children and lived in several places before settling in Arkansas City in 1949. Her husband died in April of 1957. Following his death, Floy worked for Whiting's Furniture Store of Arkansas City for a few years and then the General Electric Jet Engine Maintenance Facility at Strother Field until her retirement.

On Feb. 12, 1962, Floy married James Comly in Winfield. The couple made their home in Arkansas City and worked together at G.E. He preceded her in death earlier this year.

Floy was a member of the Central Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry and wife, Paula Plush, Don Plush and Sharon Boone, all of Arkansas City; two daughters, Delores and husband, Sterling Hatfield of Arkansas City and Marilyn and husband, Jim Bowman of Winfield; five brothers, Perry Staats of Bucklin, Ebert Staats of Topeka, Ed Staats and Merle Staats, both of Pratt and Richard Staats of Garland, Texas; one sister, Laura Hughbanks of Haysville; eight grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, 14 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, a sister, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials have been established with the Central Christian Church and Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Clyde Neal Jones

Clyde Neal Jones, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at his home in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the Hawks Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Brown of IXL Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. Neal was born on Oct. 9, 1934, in Arkansas City, the son of Glen Ridgeley "Popeye" and Mary Martina (Chapman) Jones. He graduated from Arkansas City High School. He had served in the U.S. Army. On August 16, 1958, Neal married Betty Joann Shoup in Arkansas City. He worked in the water department, for the City of Arkansas City for 13 years, then went to work for General Electric at Strother Field on Sept. 16, 1966, where he worked for 28 years until retiring in 1994. He then went to work for Enterprise for seven years. Neal was a long time and active member of the Shelton Beaty American Legion Post No. 18, having served as Post Commander. He had been active in Little League football for 10 years and was a coach for the Little Babe Ruth and Midget Leagues for six years. He had also served on the American Legion Baseball Commission of the Recreation Center. Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home, in Arkansas City; two sons, James C. Jones and his wife, Lori of Burden, and Ronald L. Jones and his wife, Sheila of Emporia; one daughter, Joanna M. Trenary and her husband, Jimmie of Arkansas City; one brother, Warren Dale Jones, address unknown; one sister, Darlene Chapman of McPherson; six granddaughters, Lyndsey and Lisa Collar, Ashley and Sarah Jones, Mary and Jamie Trenary; five grandsons, Jeremy and Tyson Jones, Andy Collar, Ronald Jr. and Jesse Jones; one brother-in-law, John Dickson of Arkansas City; two sisters-in-law, Grace Carroll of Arkansas City and Geraldine Ringgold of Blackwell; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established with the youth program of the Sons of the American Legion. Contributions may be left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Patricia Elizabeth Case

Patricia Elizabeth Case, 57, Arkansas City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in South Pittsburg, Tenn. Pastor Larry Schwartz will officiate. Born March 22, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tenn., she was the daughter of Clarence Ray Case and Grace Elizabeth (Ivy) Case. She attended schools in the Shriner's Hospital. Survivors include three sisters, Joyce Fowler of Chattanooga, Tenn., Shirley Fountain of Atlanta, Ga., Rita Warren of Arkansas City; four brothers, Charles Case of Chattanooga, Tenn., Glen Case of Arkansas City, Dwight Case of Flintstone, Ga., and Jim Case of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and 20 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Herman Ray Case and Dallas Case.
Local arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Evelyn L. Houdek

Evelyn L. Houdek, 93, Arkansas City, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in the Cowley County Memorial Lawn Chapel. Evelyn was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Lyons, to Jack and Delores (Sullenger) Ray. She was reared and educated in several places where her father's work took the famiy; including Cedar Vale, Cherryvale, Winfield, Arkansas City, and Independence, Kan., and Blackwell and Newkirk, Okla., where she graduated from high school. She met Glenn Houdek while attending Newkirk High School where they played violins in the orchestra and performed solos and duets. The couple was married Nov. 30, 1928, at the Christian Church in Wellington, and made their home in Winfield before settling in Arkansas City in 1940. She was a member of the Ark City Music and Drama Club. Survivors include a son, Ronnie and his wife, Marlene Houdek of Midland, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Jane Houdek of Benbrook, Texas; two brothers, Howard Ray of Wichita, and John Ray of Arkansas City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, in 1997; and two sons, Duane Glenn and Dick.
A memorial has been established with the A.C. Music and Drama Club Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Erma Rose Allen

Erma Rose Allen, 89, Arkansas City. died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at her residence. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall. Cremation has been effected. Born June 27, 1914, in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of George and Mary Elizabeth (Ferina) Spencer. She was reared and educated in Meadowlands, Pa. In 1936, she married Anthony "Tony" Mazur. The couple lived in Carthage, Mo., where they owned and operated the Blue Jay Motel. After his death in 1968, Erma married George R. Allen, Jr. in 1970. The couple lived in Fort Scott, where they owned and operated a cleaning service. They moved to Arkansas City several years ago. Erma was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall of Arkansas City. Survivors include her husband, George of the home; three sons George and wife, Nadine Mazur of Pierce City, Mo., Jack and wife, Barbara Mazur of Downey, Calif., Jim and wife, Bonnie Mazur of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Joan and husband, Charles Cornett of Arkansas City; one brother, George Spencer of Arkansas; one sister, Mildred Hageter of Washington, Pa.; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, Tony, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill, John and Floyd Spencer; and a sister, Jenny Unicek.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Loretta Susan Brown

Loretta Susan Brown, 48, Wichita, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at her residence in Wichita. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Rindt Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City with Rev. Danny Daniel and the Rev. Joyce Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Born March 1, 1955, in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of Kenny Slagel and Shirley Darlene Pannell. She attended Arkansas City schools as a young girl. On Jan. 20, 1995, she married Ellis W. Brown in Wichita where they have made their home since. She was a waitress and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include her husband, Ellis Brown of the home; son, Seth A. Patterson of Key West, Fla.; two daughters, Misty E. Maddux of Key West, Fla., and Katherine R. Gibbs of Grove, Okla.; sister, Lisa Fondren of Bedford, Texas; father, Kenny Slagel of Lincoln, Neb.; grandfather, Claude Pannell of Arkansas City; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; and grandmother, Marian Pannell.
A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Elvin T. "E.T" Prather

Funeral services for Elvin T. "E.T" Prather, 88, Arkansas City, who died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Nelson officiating. Interment was in the Newkirk Cemetery. Call to worship and Invocation was by Pastor Mike Ronan. Special music was by Jan and Jim Miller.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Wanda Jo Schuessler

Wanda Jo Schuessler, 61, Arkansas City, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at her residence.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Donna Jean Anderson

Memorial services for Donna Jean Anderson, 78, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Hawks Funeral Home with Rev. Steven R. Chambers officiating. Inurnment was in the Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Margaret "Maggie" Cole

Margaret "Maggie" Cole, 78, of Arkansas City died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel. Elva Mavis and Larry Cole will officiate. Private interment services will be held at a later date. Cremation will be affected. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2004. Born April 28, 1926 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Maggie was the daughter of Adolf and Ella (Oster) DeVries. Maggie grew up and attended schools in Rolf, Iowa graduating in 1946. Maggie married Francis Cole on June 29, 1947 in Chariton, Iowa. The couple lived in Albia, Iowa until 1973 when they moved to Arkansas City and have lived since. Maggie was a homemaker and a member of the Community of Christ Church in Winfield. She was also a member of the American Legion Women,s Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Francis of the home; two sons, Don Cole and his wife, Mardi of Marshalltown, IA and Jim Cole and his wife, Sarah of Brooklyn Park, MN; one daughter, Viola Stalter and her husband, Brian of Leon, IA; thirteen grandchildren, Jeremy, Shellie, aggie, Andy, Casey, ichard, Chris, David, eather, Barry, egan, Alec, and Jake; four great grandchildren. Zachary, Mykella, Breanna, and Tavis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Paula Danes and Mary Phillips; two brothers, Adolph DeVries and Vernie DeVries; and one sister, Ellen Hill.
A memorial has been established with the Community of Christ Church in Winfield and contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Robert "Bobby" Lee Moberg

A memorial service will be held for Robert "Bobby" Lee Moberg at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at First Christian Church, Ninth and Alexander in Winfield. Cremation has been effected. Family visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Toys for Tots is suggested.
