Floyde Gildhouse, 82, longtime Newkirk resident, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the Newkirk Nursing Center. Survivors include his wife, Ethel.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Andrew R. Elkins

Andrew R. Elkins, II, 6, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Floyde Ardell Gildhouse

Floyde Ardell Gildhouse, longtime Newkirk resident, died Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2007, in the Newkirk Nursing Center. He was 80. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Newkirk Cemetery with Danny W. Cornish officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Arkansas City VFW Spencer Ralston Post 1254. Floyde Ardell Gildhouse was born March 24, 1927, in Newkirk, the son of Harshel Henry and Grace Edith (Mapel) Gildhouse. He served in Korea during World War II with the Army airborne. Floyde and Martha Riggs were married in Newkirk where they established their home. Two children were born to this union. On May 25, 1970, Floyde and Ethel Marie Rowe were married in Arkansas City. Mr. Gildhouse worked for Kay County and General Electric. He retired in 1989 after 23 years of service with the company. Floyde is survived by his wife, Ethel, of the Newkirk home; one son, Verndell Henry Gildhouse, of Ankara, Turkey; a daughter, Fern Gail Gildhouse, of Ponca City; and one sister, Dorothy Bell Dye, of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Easter, Dutch, Pete and Dewey.
A memorial fund has been established with the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made in Mr. Gildhouse's name through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald E. McCutcheon

Ronald E. McCutcheon, 80, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Hemet, Calif. Private services will be held. Survivors include his daughter, Vickie Shoemaker, of Southern California; son, Steven McCutcheon, of Southern California; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee John McCutcheon and Clara Brownlee McCutcheon and one granddaughter.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Memorial Parks and Mortuaries, Cypress, Calif.

Mabel Lorene Ensley

Mabel Lorene Ensley, 90, Andover, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in the Cambridge Cemetery. A celebration reception will follow at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. Born June 24, 1917, in Atlanta, Kan., she was the daughter of Otis T. and Nona Olive (Peninger) Fabian. She worked for the Cambridge school system as a cook for many years. Survivors include her son, Mike Ensley, of Atlanta; daughter, Carolyn Colburn, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd Wilson "Bill" Ensley; and six brothers and sisters.
A memorial has been established for the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Jean Dunn

Jean Dunn, 90, Arkansas City, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Center. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Earl Tresner officiating. There will be no visitation. Born April 27, 1913, in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of Calvin and Mary Richardson Welliver. Survivors include two brothers, Harold Welliver and Leon Huffman, both of Wichita; two sisters, Maybelle Frizzell of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Bea Woods of Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Dunn.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Gary Ruben Crable

Gary Ruben Crable, infant son of Donnie and Melody Crable, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Private family memorial services are scheduled for a later date. Crematon has been effected. Survivors include his parents, Donnie Lee and Melody Lane (McCoy) Crable; three brothers, Adam Videgar of the home, Daniel Crable of Lamirada, Calif., and Jordan Crable of the home; two sisters, Ashleigh Videgar of Arkansas City, Renee Crable of Lamirada, Calif.; paternal grandparents, Martha and David Mitchell of Arkansas City, Donald Crable of Wichita; maternal grandparents, Judy and Jerry Bowman of Maple City; and great-grandparents, Reva Ferguson of Maple City and Bonnie Little of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gary McCoy; great-grandparents, Ruben and Helen Auguilar, Jasper and Virginia McCoy, Frank Ferguson, Edna Cato and Delores Crable.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Paul D. "Bud" Carson, 75

Paul D. "Bud" Carson, 75, longtime Newkirk area resident, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center in Ponca City. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Christ's Church of Newkirk with Rev. Steve Harshman officiating. Interment followed in Newkirk Cemetery. Born Sept. 30, 1928, in Newkirk, he was the son of David Dunn and Alpha Retta (Ramsey) Carson. He worked for his brother Richard at Carson Heat & Plumbing in Ponca City, and after his brother's death he worked various jobs around Newkirk. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (Rouse) Carson, of the home; two sons, David Carson of Ponca City and Jeffrey Brown of Newkirk; one daughter, Debby Dobson of Ponca City; one brother, Dale Carson of String Town, Texas; two sisters, Cleo Wagers and Jeannean Wanko, both of Ponca City; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Colleen (Haunschilds) Carson; one daughter, Tawnya Marie Carson; his parents; one brother, Richard; and a sister, Eva Lee Huffman.
A memorial fund has been established with the Oklahoma Kidney Foundation. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Laura Lucile Smith

Laura Lucile Smith, 92, former resident of Ponca City, Okla., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Lake Charles, La., Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, with Rev. Dr. J.D. Ward, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Ponca City, officiating. Born Sept. 7, 1911, in Dexter, she was the daughter of Philip A. and Laura Wesbrook Foust. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her son, Richard Smith of Sulphur, La.; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olen Neil Smith, her parents; four brothers, Ben, Ray, Jesse, and Dale; and one sister, Esther Maxwell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, Ponca City, Okla.

Ralph L. Reynolds

Ralph L. Reynolds, 80, of Kansas Veteran's Home, Winfield, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Born June 25, 1923, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Carl and Ethel (Buffum) Reynolds. He retired from Gordon-Piatt as night plant supervisor. Survivors include his sons, Ronald Reynolds of Winfield, John Reynolds, of Phoenix, Ariz., Neil Reynolds of O'Conto, Wis., Robert Reynolds of Douglass; daughters, Marilyn Glotta of Gordonville, Texas, Jeanne Reynolds of Ossian, Ind., Jovita Stensrud of Wichita, Kay McNerny of Rose Hill, Laura Dixon of Belle Plaine; brothers, Kenneth Reynolds of Portland, Ore., Donald Reynolds of Winfield and Cecil Reynolds of Wichita; sisters, Dorothy Malone and Louise Nichols, both of Winfield; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Thurlow) Reynolds; a son, James; brother, Glen; and one granddaughter.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association and Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.

Mable Ermina (Snapp) Huffman

Mable Ermina (Snapp) Huffman, 100, Arkansas City, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 9, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City, with Rev. Danny and Rev. Joyce Daniel officiating. Cremation has been effected. Born July 25, 1903 in Guthrie, Okla., she was the adopted daughter of William Henry and Bertha C. (Davis) Snapp. Mable graduated from Guthrie High School where she played the violin in the school orchestra. After high school she attended Oklahoma City Business College. On Jan. 1, 1925, she married Glenn Henry Huffman in Edmond, Okla. Glen and Mable lived In Guthrie with Glenn's daughter, Charlotte from a previous marriage. Mable raised Charlotte as her own daughter until Charlotte's marriage to Jack Branum of Arkansas City. Daughter Glenna Sue was born in Guthrie, January 13,1936, during the family's residence in Guthrie. Glenn continued to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in various positions on train routes in and around Guthrie. The Huffman family moved to Arkansas City in 1937. Mable and Glenn quickly became involved in the community through the Arkansas City First Presbyterian Church. Neighbors, church members and Glenn's Santa Fe colleagues and families became close family friends. Girl Scouts became important for Mable as Sue entered scouting in about 1947. After being a troop leader she advanced to the position of commissioner of the Arkansas City Girl Scouts Board. She filled this role for I5 years and was instrumental in the development and construction of the Girl Scout Center Building (the Hogan) on North C Street. In the church, Mable was a regular attender at Sunday morning worship as well as various church committees and boards. She was a deaconess and one of the most active women in the church for many years. Mable is remembered for her leadership with Maureen Hawkins for the remodeling of the church kitchen in about 1952, which remains basically unchanged to this day. She was dining room chairman and served many fund raising meals during her years of service. Mable was on the music committee and was president of the Edith Cox Guild. Mable was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, VFW, Train Ladies and served on the Board of the Salvation Army in Arkansas City, Fortnightly club, Arkansas City Music Club, Parent Teachers Association and school activities with Charlotte and Sue. Glenn was elected City Commissioner in 1973 and Mable was at his side for the meetings, trips and presentations during most of the two-year term. Her last committee was on the Board of the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor Residents. During the Style Show each spring held at the Burford Theatre and local churches, Mable was always a participant and modeled for Newman"s Department Store and Harvey's Dress Shop. After Mable and Glenn moved to the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor she continued to model fashions until well into her 8Os. She is recognized for always being stylish. Survivors include one daughter, Sue and husband, Don Bowman of Bellevue, Wash.; three grandchildren, Brad Bowman, Jennifer Heintz and Sharley Kuenzel; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jessica Bowman, Adrienne Stirn and Darcy Rose; and two Great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Bridgette Stirn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; and a daughter Charlotte Branum.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Lizzie Thames

Lizzie Thames, 68, Stillwater, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at home. Funeral services will be at noon, Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stillwater, with Pastor Lonnie Paul Williams Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Red Rock, Okla., she was the daughter of Samuel and Susie (Lindsey) Abington. She was a cook at the Kappa Delta Sorority for more than 20 years. On Aug. 7, 1953, she married Dossie L. Thames in Stillwater. Lizzie was a faithful member at The Church of God in Christ, serving as church administrator, director of religious education, treasurer and choir member under the late Pastor Bishop Fred D. Lawson Jr. and the newly appointed Marion Johnson. Survivors include three sons, James Thames of Stillwater, Robert Thames of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Arvin Thames of Stillwater; four daughters, Arnetta Williams of Columbia, S.C., Janetta Peters of Loganville, Ga., Carol Johnson of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Debbie Rhodes of McKinney, Texas; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Abington of Oklahoma City, and Willard Abington of Stillwater; two sisters, Lucille Pierce of Oklahoma City, and Irene Murray of Stillwater; and her devoted church family of many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, who died Sept. 6, 2004; two brothers, Oscar Abington and Aaron Abington; one sister, Dolly Chandler; and one son, Larry Thames.
A memorial has been established for the Judith Karman Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076. Arrangements are under the direction of the Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater.

Samuel Abraham Cook

Samuel Abraham Cook, 2, Arkansas City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Fry will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Samuel was born Aug. 6, 2002, in Arkansas City, to Robert Howard and Julie Ann (Martin) Cook. Samuel attended Calvary Chapel with his family. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Julie Cook of the home; six brothers Larry Cook, Chris Cook, and Mike Cook, all of Arkansas City, Wil and David Beltz and Daniel Cook all of the home: many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Arrena Cook and Willard "Twid" and Margaret Martin.
A memorial has been established to assist with funeral costs. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Mary Patricia Robson

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Patricia Robson, 80, Arkansas City, who died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, was conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father John B. Brungardt and Father Francis Cox officiated. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery. Cantor was Liz Martell. Organist was Andy Ebert. Casket bearers were Galen Webb, Drew Taylor, David Schmeidler, M.D., Mike Webb, Nick Leon and Robert L. Ferris.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Sandra L. Porterfield

Sandra L. Porterfield, 47, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Hawks Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Lloyd C. Lazzelle

Lloyd C. Lazzelle, 93, Wichita, formerly of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at the Via Christi Medical Center -- St. Joseph's Campus. No Services are scheduled. Cremation has been effected. The ashes will be interred in Parker Cemetery. Lloyd was born Sept. 20, 1914, to John and Edna (Owens) Lazzelle. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City. He married Elizabeth Taylor on March 7, 1935. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. He worked as a delivery man for Woods Lumber Company and later worked for the John Morrell Meat Packing Company. After retirement in 1979, the couple moved to Newkirk, also spending winters in South Texas. He moved to the Homestead Health Center in 2007. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Jacques, of Ponca City, Okla., Jeanne Olsen, of Laurel, Md., Judy and her husband, Jack McKay, of Wichita; grandchildren, Chuck and his wife, Yolanda Jacques, of Flowermound, Texas, Stephanie and her husband, Jon Eveland, of Laurel, Md., Carole and her husband, Brett Stephens, of Newkirk; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 69 years, Elizabeth; a grandson, Clay Jacques; and brothers, Harold, Al, Marvin, and Fred.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Claudie Irvin, 70, Arkansas City, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Wichita. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark McCarville officiating. Interment will be in Parker Cemetery. Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
