Ruby Madelyn "Molly" Lindsey, 85, of Oxford, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Riverview Manor in Oxford. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
A memorial has been established with the Legacy Foundation in Winfield. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Stephen Michael "Mike" Matlock, 51, of Ark City, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at South Central Kansas Medical Regional Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park at Ponca City. A memorial has been established with the Shriners Children's Hospital. Contribution may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Ark City.

Paula S. Wilson, 48, of Winfield died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus, Wichita. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel in Winfield. There will be no visitation.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Ruth Marion.

Alice J. Stone, 84, Arkansas City, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in the Parker Cemetery with Jesse Kindred officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Rhett C. Kunkel, 21, Arkansas City, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with Pastor Jackie Vogele and Pastor Brad Vogele officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City. A memorial has been established with New Hope Assembly Church Youth Group. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arthur Lee Walker, 63, lifetime resident of Winfield, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Via Christi Riverside Medical Center in Wichita. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in Wilmot, Kan., Cemetery, north of Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. A memorial has been established in his name to help defray the cost of funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Stella B. Somers, 100, resident of Ponca City, Okla., died Friday, October 10, 2003, at the Ponca City Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held graveside at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City, with Robert L. Ferris, pastor, First Christian Church of Newkirk, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.

Jack Paul Leroy Sprague, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, in Houston, Texas. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Sharpstown Baptist Church, Houston. Interment was in the Houston National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Sharpstown Baptist Church Building and Grounds Fund, 7000 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77074.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Miller Funeral Service, Houston.

Funeral services for Viola "Vi" Watson, 81, who died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at the Church of God in Christ with Superintendent James Watson, Jr., of the Church of God In Christ and Elder Lemuel Thuston of Kansas City, Mo., officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Leola Crouch, 70, Arkansas City, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the Riverview Manor of Oxford.
Arrangements are pending and are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Robert F. Ryman

Robert F. Ryman, 92, of Arkansas City, died June 22, 2007 at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the 4-H Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Edith M. (Palmer) Clark

Edith M. (Palmer) Clark, 71, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, of Arkansas City. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2007, in the Parker Cemetery. Edith was born Sept. 15, 1935, in Arkansas City, to Lloyd W. and Myrtle L. (Bumgardener) Palmer. She attended local schools. Edith worked as a waitress and cook in restaurants and truck stops across Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. She also worked as a detox specialist at Narconon for eight years and several years for Ark City Home Health. She enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and attending auctions and garage sales. Survivors include two sons, Michael and his wife, Debbie Gootee, of Abilene, Texas, Mark and his wife Donna Gootee, of Dexter; two daughters, Debbie Branam, of Arkansas City, Reba and her husband, Lonnie Harth, of Maple City; one brother, Jack and his wife, Geri Palmer, of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Zack Brumback, Michael Dietrich, Travis, Shaun, Misty, Waylon, Cody Gootee, Harold and Roy Branam, Jon and Josh Jacobs, Benjamin and Brittany Harth; great-grandchildren, Kayden Jacobs, Skyler Branam, Raven, Haley and Alexa Gootee, Ardella Gootee, Kendra Dietrich, Brandon Ryan and Jack Branam; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Geraldine Plecker and Loydine Crouch; grandsons, William Gootee and Kenneth Branam; and a nephew, Kevin Palmer.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Mildred Irene Loney

Mildred Irene Loney, 95, of Arkansas City died Monday, June 18, 2007, at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Snavley officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Mildred was born Feb. 26, 1912, in Lockwood, Mo., to Edgar and Hattie Pearl (Tanner) Tracey. She grew up in Coffeyville, Kan. On Jan. 17, 1931, Mildred married George Washington Loney in Sapulpa, Okla. The couple made their home in Ponca City. Later they moved north of Geuda Springs to Rainbow Bend. In 1958 they moved to Arkansas City. Mildred was a homemaker. Until her health declined, Mildred was an active member in the Arkansas City First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her son, Michael Loney and wife, Nina, of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Dawn Smith and husband, Jason, of Oklahoma City, and grandson Christopher Loney and wife, Rochelle, of Hoover, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Thomas Loney, of Hoover, and Brinlee Gayle Smith, of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Grace Loney, Ponca City; and a niece, Geraldine Fitch, of Las Cruces, N.M. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, brother, and an infant daughter.
A memorial has been established in her name for the Arkansas City First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Wilma Jean Summerlin (Wicks)

Wilma Jean Summerlin (Wicks), 83, Pawhuska, died Monday, June 18, 2007, in a Pawhuska nursing home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in the Hope Cemetery in Cowley County near Arkansas City. Born Nov. 29, 1923, in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of Leroy and Sylvia (Jones) McGlothern. She served as a missionary for many years and as a nurse, and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Paul, of the home; one son, Lee Watson, Havana, Kan.; and other family members.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davidson Funeral Home, Fairfax, Okla.

Clarence E. "Woody" Potterton

Clarence E. "Woody" Potterton, 69, of Arkansas City, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at Southwest Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Woody was born Aug. 11, 1937, in rural Arkansas City, to Nick and Vivian (Kirkpatrick) Potterton. Woody had worked at Jarvis Auto in Winfield for 13 years, serving two years as store manager in Arkansas City. He also worked for AutoZone in Loveland Colo., where he retired. Survivors include his wife, Kay (Brookshire) Potterton of the home; sons, Steven Obenshain, of Loveland, Colo., and Nathan Obenshain, of Noel Mo.; daughters, Katherine Winner, of Virginia Beach Va., Angela Clayton, of Seneca, Mo., and Cindy Obenshain, of Loveland Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Raymond C. Cowel

Raymond C. Cowel, 79, WWII vet and excavator, died Saturday, June 16, 2007. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Hillside Funeral Home East Chapel, 935 N. Hillside. Interment will be in White Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home until 6 p.m. today. Survivors include his daughters, Janice Goff, of Wichita, and Sandra Stickel, Arkansas City; brothers, Jerald Cowel, Scott City, and Ronald Cowel, Cedar Vale; sisters, Laverne Ray, Velma, Okla., and Marilyn Megenity, Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and son, Dennis.
A memorial has been established for the Raymond Cowel Funeral Fund. Contributions should be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hillside Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Kathryn M. Miller

Kathryn M. Miller, 90, of Winfield, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Winfield Resthaven. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the Tisdale United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Tisdale Cemetery. Born Nov. 5, 1916, in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of Harold P. and Josephine (Shorter) Sandborn. She graduated from Burden High School in 1933 and received her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State University. She taught at Pleasant Valley 'Frog Hollow' and also Harmony. On Dec. 26, 1940, she married Walter Francis 'Frank' Miller in Winfield. They made their home on a farm near Winfield. She was a fulltime homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2001. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia J. Born, of Waxahachie, Texas, Nancy Horst, of Winfield, Kathleen Allan, of Crestwood, Ill., and Martha Allan, of Seminole, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Carroll and Kenneth Sandborn.
Memorials have been established in Kathryn's name for the Tisdale United Methodist Church, Winfield Resthaven and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Jessie Lee Smith

Jessie Lee Smith, 81, Winfield, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at William Newton Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Military honors will follow in the Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m Tuesday. The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Born Nov. 28, 1925, in Parks, Ark., he was the son of L.B. and Winford (Harrison) Smith. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a machinist. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann (Eastman) Smith of the home; son, David Lee Smith, Winfield; daughter, Diann K. Smith Miller, Winifeld; brothers, Carl Gene Smith, Oklahoma City, and Billie Smith, Newalla, Okla.; sisters, Ruby Jones, Oklahoma City, Mary Nell Gorum, Laughlin, Nev., and Irma Lee Cardenas, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J.B., Orville, Otis, Kenneth and Hades; and sisters, Lucille Godwin and Willa Mae Jones.
A memorial has been established with the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Wilbur Wilson

Wilbur Wilson, 87, Winfield, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the Chanute Health Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Born July 1, 1919, in Winfield, he was the son of Joseph Keith "Deacon" and Cloa J. (Finney) Wilson. He owned and operated Wilson Oil. Survivors include his son, Keith Wilson, Winfield; daughters, Gretchen Herlocker, Winfield, and Diane Parish Wilson, Chanute; sister, Winifred Lunsford, Stuart, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Louise (Goodwin) Wilson.
Memorials have been established for the Chanute Healthcare Van Fund and Friendship Meals in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Margaret A. Bickham

Margaret A. Bickham, 93, lifelong resident of Burden, died Wednesday afternoon, June 13, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Andover. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Interment will follow in the Burden Cemetery. Born Sept. 30, 1913, in Burden, she was the daughter of Rufus and Rachel (Tredway) Gatton. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. Survivors include her daughters, Louise Wier, Belleview, Wash., Nancy Bickham, Wichita, and Cathy Cochran, Slidell, La.; sister, Doris Laker, Evergreen, Colo.; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; and brothers, Kenneth, Dale and Max.
A memorial has been established for the First Baptist Church in Burden. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Ladonna Marie Fatout

Ladonna Marie Fatout, 48, Elmore City, Okla., died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, in Ponca City. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Arkansas City, with Brother Babe Standerfer officiating. Cremation will be effected. Born Jan. 17, 1959, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Donald and Margret (Connic) Rogers. She grew up and attended school in Winfield, and Arkansas City, and South Haven had been her home most of her life. In 2002 Ladonna moved to Elmore City, Okla. She owned and operated L.D. Upholstery. Ladonna was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Survivors include two sons, Josh Standerfer and his wife, Lindsey, Lawton, Okla., and Mark Standerfer, Pauls Valley, Okla.; daughter, Jennifer Ballard and husband, Casey, Prescott, Ariz.; parents, Donald and Margret Rogers, South Haven; two brothers, Billy Rogers, of Michigan, and John Rogers, of Kansas; one sister, Vickie Rogers, Of Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lily Ballard, Aiden Ballard, Mason Standerfer and Hunter Standerfer; and two grandchildren on the way.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wooster Funeral Home, Pauls Valley, Okla.
