Memorial services for Milo B. Newman, 72, Arkansas City, who died Friday, June 24, 2005, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, in Memorial Lawn Chapel. The Rev. Sheila Ratzlaff, St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Rev. Bradley Fisher, Hicks Chapel, officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Vocalist was Richard Fair.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Jerad Mathew Moore

Funeral services for Jerad Mathew Moore, 24, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. The Rev. Joyce Daniel of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were Joel Williams, Leon Moore, Marshall Kidd, Paul Williams, Roger Moore and Scott Linder.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Etta Mae Willoughby

Funeral services for Etta Mae Willoughby, 76, Arkansas City, who died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Clint Gibson and Garry Willoughby officiated. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. Special music was by Cassie Annette and Carter Green. Accompanist was Jason Willoughby.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Dustin Thomas Bay

Funeral services for Dustin Thomas Bay, 22, Arkansas City, who died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Mt. Zion Community Church. Pastor Gale Rider officiated. Interment was in the Hope Cemetery. Pianist was Doug Kahm. Vocalist was Tamen Eis. Casket bearers were Josh Brotherton, Justin Waggoner, Jeffrey Meyer, William Mavis, Bob Fitzgerald and Shawn Standerfer.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Alberta C. "Jackie" Walker

Funeral services for Alberta C. "Jackie" Walker, 82, Arkansas City, who died Monday, June 20, 2005, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. The Rev. Mark Boxman officiated. Interment was in the Geuda Springs Cemetery. Pianist was Amy Haist. Casket bearers were Harold Hinkle, Rodger Naegele, D.L. Givens, Kenneth Gilmore, Mark Scram and Les Block.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Archie Ray Daniels

Archie Ray Daniels, 81, Winifeld, died Monday, June 25, 2007, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today. Born April 9, 1926, on a farm northwest of Amorita, Okla., he was the son of Sydney James and Clemenza (Barber) Daniels. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lou (Beard) Daniels, of the home; sons, Dennis Daniels, Annadale, Va., and Bill Daniels, of Conyers, Ga.; daughter, Dianne Renfro, of Chase, Kan.; sister, Betty Markley, Winfield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sam Daniels; and his sister, Claudia Trotter.
A memorial has been established for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Maria Ella Hammon

Maria Ella Hammon, former Newkirk resident, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Windsor Hills Nursing Center, Oklahoma City.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.

Della G. Pyle-Parrish

Della G. Pyle-Parrish, 94, formerly of Arkansas City, died Monday, June 25, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center of Winfield. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2007, in the Highland Cemetery of Winfield. Della was born June 13, 1913, in Kansas City, Mo., to John E. and Della L. (Catlin) Irons. She was reared and educated in Winfield. In 1931, Della married Clarence F. Pyleat in Newkirk, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1957. She later married John W. Parrish on July 4, 1962. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. He preceded her in death in 1971. Della worked as a waitress and cook for the Harold and Alice Cafe and the Sunbeam Cafe for many years. She was a member of the IXL Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, John F. Pyle Sr.; and a grandson, John F. Pyle Jr., both of California; granddaughter, Rebecca Lankton, of Anthony, Kan.; a niece, Della A. Saar, of Winfield; two grandchildren; and many great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Clarence Earl Pyle; and a sister, and three brothers.
The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Fund of the Good Samaritan Center of Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Tommy Jack "Tom" Baker

Tommy Jack "Tom" Baker, 63, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at the Robert J. Dole V.A. Medical Center of Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Tom was born June 25, 1944, in Alamorgordo, New Mexico to Clifford Jack and Peggy Annette (Belflower) Baker. He was reared and educated in Corpus Christi and Bishop, Texas, graduating from Bishop High School in 1962. He later graduated from Cowley College. Tom served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served in the Military Police and was one of the first Sentry Dog Handlers in Vietnam. Tom married Glenna Barnes on May 21, 1971 in Newkirk. The couple lived most of their married lives in Arkansas City. Tom worked as a police officer after the Vietnam war in Arkansas City, served as Chief of Police at Kingman, Kan., and then returned to the Arkansas City Police Department to finish his law enforcement career. He later worked in various construction fields ending with operating his own heating and cooling company. Tom is survived by his wife, Glenna, of the home; two sons, T.J. and his wife Diana Baker, Tyson Baker; two daughters, Tonya Baker, Terice and her husband Greg Watts; his mother, Peggy Good, all of Arkansas City; one brother, Billy Ray and his wife Pat Baker of Houston, Texas; mother-in-law, Opal Barnes; six grandchildren, Cade, Kyler, Kylie, Devin, Dylan and Hannah; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and father-in-law Clyde Barnes.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for assistance with final expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Betty Jane Groves

Betty Jane Groves died Thursday at her home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the Trinity Episcopal Church. A private interment will be held at a later date. Cremation has been effected. Betty was born on Jan. 23, 1919, to Moncure C. and Winona D. Robinson Baldwin in Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1937. On April 20, 1940, she married Frank R. Groves from Atchinson, Kan., and they made their home in Bartlesville, Okla. One year later, they moved to Arkansas City and opened a Phillips 66 Jobbership. Betty was active in the business and ran their operation while her husband was away for army training. She served as president of her PEO Chapter, was on the Trinity Episcopal Altar Guild, and promoted the formation of the Ark City Community Concert for several years. She was an avid golfer and served several years on the Ark City Country Club board of directors. In later years, she and her husband got involved in horse racing and traveled to Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska running their stable of horses. Survivors include four children, Frank Richard Groves, Phil Groves and his wife, Joyce, Mike Groves and his wife, Judi, all of Arkansas City, Jean Ann and her husband, William Plante, of San Jose, Calif.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and friend and caregiver, Teresa Sparks. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; two brothers; and one grandson, Brian Groves.
Memorials have been established for the Trinity Episcopal Church and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Walter A. Smith

Walter A. Smith, 82, lifelong resident of Arkansas City, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at his home in Arkansas City. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in the Hope Cemetery with Pastor James "Babe" Standerfer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today. Walter was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Arkansas City, the son of Charles and Mary Schuartz Smith. Walter graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1942. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Sept. 9, 1948, he married Louise Fishburn in Arkansas City. Walter was a warehouse man for Struthers Thermo-Flood retiring in the mid 1980s. He also enjoyed working for Wal-Mart for 12 years. Survivors include his wife, Louise Smith, of Arkansas City; three sons, Gerald Smith, with Tamra West, of Springfield, Mo., David Smith, of Arkansas City, and Gary Smith, of Arkansas City; one sister, Rosemary Horner, Mulvane; and five granddaughters, Chris Smith, (Ryan) Smith, Jessica Smith, Kristen Wood and Jennifer Cruise. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Edgar and John; and one sister, Virginia.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association and may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Willa Jean Mueller

Willa Jean Mueller, 87, Winfield, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Winfield Resthaven. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Born Sept. 20, 1919, on a farm southeast of Winfield, she was the daughter of William Henry and Lena Viola (Waltz) Paton. She was employed at Edward B. Stephenson and was later employed at the State Bank as a secretary and bookkeeper until retirement. Survivors include her son, Bill Mueller, Winfield; daughter, Deanne Stevens, of Wichita; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; and brother, Maurice Paton.
Memorials have been established for Hospice Care of Kansas and Meals on Wheels. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

Lyle R. Branstetter

Lyle R. Branstetter, formerly of Arkansas City, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, in Houston, Texas.

Lysle William Jimison

Lysle William Jimison, 96, Winfield, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at William Newton Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church. Military committal honors will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, in Stafford Cemetery in Stafford, Kan. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Born Aug. 19, 1910, in Colorado Springs, Colo., he was the son of William Marion and Minnie Pearl (Haworth) Jimison. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service until retirement, then worked part-time as an appraiser with the Salina County Appraiser's office. Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Poltera, Winfield, and Margaret Wesely, of Wichita; sisters, Lorraine Ripley and Marjorie Tribue, both of Wichita; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Marjorie (Wilhelm) Jimison; his parents; brothers, Horace, Robert, Howard and Russell Jimison; and sisters, Dorotha Sanford and Wanda Gere.
Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Cumbernauld Village Activities Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

George V. Hatzell

George V. Hatzell, 85, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation has been effected George was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Penalosa, Kan., to Clarence and Irma (Wallace) Hatzell. George worked as a waiter and busboy in the food service industry in Tulsa and many other places around the country. Survivors include a brother, Boyd Hatzell, of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews including Richard Smith, of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Regina Smith.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Elizabeth June "Bet" Buzzi

Elizabeth June "Bet" Buzzi, 81, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center of Arkansas City. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7. Interment will follow in the Springside Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday. Bet was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Newkirk, Okla., to Ferd E. and Agnes P. (Eck) Buzzi. She was reared and educated in Newkirk. Survivors include two brothers, Ed Buzzi, of Arkansas City, and Bob Buzzi, of Wichita; two sisters, Wilma "Pat" and her husband, Bob Anstine, Joanna and her husband, Richard Barnthouse, all of Arkansas City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

William J. "Bill" Arend

William J. "Bill" Arend, 81, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jeremy Myers of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with members of the Knights of Columbus serving as casket bearers. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. following the rosary. Bill was born May 26, 1926, in Calera, Okla., to the late Nicholas and Lena (Rasheuber) Arend. He graduated from Lindsay High School in 1944 and attended Midwestern University for two years. After serving in the U.S. Army, he married Margaret "Peg" Tomlinson on Nov. 3, 1949, in Duncan, Okla. Bill worked as a district supervisor for over 35 years for Halliburton, before retiring in 1986. Bill volunteered for Home Hospice, and was an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ombudsman, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and VFW. Suvivors include his wife, Peg, of Sherman, Texas; two sons, William Arend Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Littleton, Colo., and James Arend and wife, Virginia, of Topeka; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Nicholas Arend of Gainesville, Texas; and one sister, Helen Yosten of Muenster, Texas. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, John, and Max, and two sisters, Fran and Florence.
Memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County at 505 W. Center Street or the St. Mary's Building Fund at 727 S. Travis, Sherman, Texas 75090. Arrangements are under the direction of the Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
