Timothy "Tim" Clark Meek
Timothy "Tim" Clark Meek, 57, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at the Via Christi Medical Center -- St. Joseph's Campus of Wichita. Private memorial services are scheduled for a later date in the Parker Cemetery. Tim was born Sept. 20, 1949, in Arkansas City, to Dr. George C. and Thelma B. (Bradshaw) Meek. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1968. He later attended Southwestern College of Winfield. He served in the United States Army for a brief time. Tim worked in the tool crib of the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita. He also worked in the kitchens of Southwestern College and Baylor University. Survivors include one niece, Melissa Patterson, of Arkansas City; a brother, Anthony Meek of Fairfax, Va.; an uncle Dr. and Mrs. Max Foster, of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and David Meek; and a sister, Angela Patterson.
Memorials have been established with the Random Road Chapel and an education trust for Melissa Patterson. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
Charles E. O'Dell
Charles E. O'Dell, 60, Soldotna, Alaska resident, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. At his request, no services are planned. His ashes will be scattered by the family at a later date. He was born Dec. 27, 1946, in Newkirk, Okla., to Leonard and Clara O'Dell. He worked in commercial building construction in California before retiring to spend time with his grandsons and to fish in Alaska. Survivors include his wife of 40 year, Glenis O'Dell of Soldotna; daughters, Keira Adams, of San Martin, Calif., and Brenda O'Dell, of San Francisco, Calif.; son, Phillip O'Dell, of Fairbanks, Alaska; three grandsons; his brothers, John O'Dell, of Texas, and Bill O'Dell, of Oklahoma; sister, Suzie Harder, of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai, Alaska.
John R. "Jack" Wickes
John R. "Jack" Wickes, 70, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Medicalodge in Arkansas City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Maple Grove Cemetery
in Dodge City. The Rev. Dennis Zimmerman will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of William O. and Mildred H. (Hull) Wickes. He was a field service engineer for Honeywell Corporation for many years. Survivors include his son, John Wickes, of Temecula, Calif.; sister, Mary C. Shipps, Dodge City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Aileen (Ingram) Wickes; and a son, James Wickes.

Arthur K. "Luke" Lucas
Arthur K. "Luke" Lucas, 89, retired welder, Boeing employee and musician, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, in El Paso Cemetery, Derby. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Vera; daughters, Carol J. Coble, Arkansas City, Connie Bass, Wichita, Cheryl Lucas, Wichita; son, Don Lucas, Wichita; sister, Doris Schmersey, Wichita; brother, Bill Lucas, Marion, Kan.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A memorial has been established for the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith Family Mortuary, Derby.
Maurice E. Utt Jr.
Maurice E. Utt Jr., of Cedar Vale, died Saturday, July 21, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the Cedar Vale City Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, at the Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. A memorial has been established with the National Kidney Foundation. He was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Piedmont, Kan., to Maurice E. Utt Sr., and Attie (Zimmerman) Utt. He worked on the Bill House Ranch for 25 years. He married Marjorie Bennett in 1940 in Sedan, Kan. She preceded him in death in 1998. Survivors include three sons, Daryl Wayne Utt, of Gillette, Wyo., Marvin Maurice Utt, of Silverdale and Blaine Utt, of Dexter; two sisters, Ethel Holroyd, of Topeka and Nina Foster, of Cedar Vale; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Billy G. Wells
Billy G. Wells, 77, of South Haven, passed away at his home on Friday, July 20, 2007. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. Arrangements are with Hawks Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Wellington. Billy was born Jan. 5, 1930, to Donald Keith Wells Sr. and Anna Marie Williamson in Medford, Okla. He served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a carpenter and a farmer. Billy was united in marriage to Melvena Sivilis on Sept. 22, 1956. Surviving to honor his memory is his son, Terry G. Wells, of South Haven; three brothers, Donald Wells, of Oklahoma City, Russell Wells, of Wichita and Treat Lawrence Wells, of Florida. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Melvena in 2000; sisters, Madeline Irene Parson and Katherine Ginder; and his brother, Joe Ed Wells.

Hubert L. Johnston, 82, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City.

The Rev. Dr. William "Bill" T. Soule
The Rev. Dr. William "Bill" T. Soule, 78, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kan. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastors, the Rev. Dr. Don Owens, Rev. Don Shroeder and Rev. John Blythe presiding. Cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends following the service. Friends may sign the book Monday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at Elliott Mortuary. He was born July 7, 1929, in Johnsonburg, Penn., the son of Lloyd and Elizabeth Minor Soule. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church on May 15, 1954 and had served congregations throughout Kansas, including Winfield from 1967-1977. On June 30, 1951, he married Inez "Zic" London in Cloe, Penn. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Liz Cordts, of Overbrook, Kan.; three sons, Tim, of Hutchinson, David, of Arkansas City and Paul, of New York City; one brother, Lloyd Soule, of Woodburn, Ore.; seven grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Endowment Fund of First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501.
Maxine Webb
Maxine Webb, 66, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Maxine was born Dec. 6, 1940, at Lequire, Okla., to Norman and Mary Edith (Ward) Burden. She was reared and educated in Stafford, Okla., graduating in 1959. She married Charles Webb on Sept. 9, 1960, in Hammon, Okla. The couple has lived in Arkansas City since 1962. Maxine was a homemaker and craft maker and was the owner and operator of the Country Heart Crafts Store. Survivors include her husband, Charles of the home; two daughters, Terri and her husband, Jeff Bute, of Pawhuska, Janet Webb of Ponca City; three sisters, Ruby Mowry, of Mustang, Okla., Lois and husband, Edward Huey, of Altus, Okla., Mary and husband, Duane Richardson, of Oklahoma; two brothers, Gene Burden and companion, Oscar, of Elk City, Okla., Jimmy Burden, of Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Ann Biddy, of San Antonio, Texas, and Shirley Webb, of Arkansas City; and four grandchildren, Chase Webb, of Ponca City, Taylor Nelson, Kaci Jo Bute and Shelby Layne Bute, all of Pawhuska. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Archie and Frank Burden.

R. Q. Spencer
R. Q. Spencer, 80, longtime Newkirk area farmer/rancher, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at his home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Newkirk First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Hollifield and Don Gribble officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Otto G. Abbott Post 165 with Commander Chester Huxley and VFW Clarence Pond Post 4979 with Commander Ernest Vap. Masonic Rites will be provided by the Newkirk Masonic Lodge No. 88. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and from 1-9 p.m. Sunday. Born Jan. 9, 1927, at Lamont, he was the son of Dorr Emery and Daisy Dean (Riley) Spencer. He was a farmer and rancher, and had been employed by Ponca Iron, and later as a union crane operator for Chicago Bridge and Iron. He had also been employed by Wilkerson's until he retired and returned to his farming and ranching Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ellen Pappan (Spencer); a son, Robert Lee Spencer, of Fall River, Kan.; two stepsons, Bill Shaw, of Derby, Kan., and Don Gribble, of Wichita; a daughter, Suzan Joy Barnes, of Cottonwood Falls, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Vickie Thele, of Ponca City; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Mary Kathryn (Lane) Spencer and Wanda Lu Goddard (Baughman) Spencer; a stepson, Jason McVey; his parents; and a sister, Lois Moore.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund through Eastman National Bank, PO Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Winfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Born in Logan County, Okla., on Nov. 8, 1920, she was the daughter of Adam and Emiliun Kala Karcher. Wanda retired from Rodeo Meats. Survivors include her stepson Alan Sharp, of Arkansas City; stepdaughter, Terri Clunn, of Sapulpa, Okla.; four stepgrandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hank Fuxa and Donald Sharp; brothers, Arnold, Ernst, Wilhelm, Oswald, Fred and Ewald Karcher.

Louise Alice Gregory
Louise Alice Gregory, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at First Christian Church. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Bob Colerick of the First Christian Church will officiate. Born Jan. 4, 1917, in rural Lincolnville, Kan., she was the daughter of Emile Felix and Grace May (Sampson) Soyez. When she was two months old her family moved to a farm outside of Marion, Kan., where she graduated from Marion High School On Feb 21, 1940, she married Edmund Blaine Gregory in El Dorado. He died Sept. 5, 2004. She was a medical assistant at Medical Arts Clinic until retirement in 1974. She was a member of Emporia First Christian Church, the Women's Circle at the church andseveral other church groups Survivors include her son and his wife, Jim and Barb Gregory, of Emporia; daughter and her husband, Wanda and Larry Schwintz, of Winfield; two brothers, Emile F. Soyez Jr. of Cedar Point, Kan., and Jon Soyez, of Newton; one grandson, Wesley Blaine Gregory, of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren, Lori Root, of Winfield, Brad Schwintz, of Douglass, Kan.; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lloyd Soyez and Richard Soyez; three sisters, Cecilia Marie Standiferd, Vida Vinduska and LuEtta Soyez.

Richard Hobson Williams
Richard Hobson Williams, 82, former resident of Arkansas City, and a recent resident of Collinsville, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, in Owasso. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the Collinsville Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until noon, Friday. Richard was born on Jan. 8, 1925, in Raleigh, W.Va. to R.H. and Thelma (Mays) Williams He served in both the Army and the Navy, and was a veteran of World War II. He married Mary Lou Williams and together they raised two children, Mark and Shawnee. Before retirement, Richard worked as a mechanic for the City of Arkansas City. He also belonged to the Arkansas City VFW. He enjoyed listening to country music, riding his bicycle, gardening, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. He could usually be seen with his beloved dog Jodie by his side. One of Richard's great passions was watching game shows such as the Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. He will be missed by many friends and loved ones. Survivors include his two children, Shawnee Finnern and husband, Gene of Springfield, Mo., and Mark Williams and wife, Tammy, of Collinsville, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one Cousin, Jenny McManama. He was preceded in death by his Parents, R.H. and Wilma Williams; his wife, Mary Lou Williams; two sisters, Betty Lou Kerner and Norma Ruth Stultz; and one great grandchild.

Lewis E. Brown, 91, of Arkansas City, formerly of Tulsa, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Center.

Fred E. Levick
Fred E. Levick, 84, of Arkansas City, was promoted to Glory on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Fred was born Jan. 20, 1923, at Blackburn, Okla., the second son of Ralph and Mattie (Houston) Levick. He was reared and educated in many communities across Oklahoma and Kansas. Fred served in the United States Army during WWII as a heavy artillery cannoneer and machine gunner, but spent most of his time as a minesweeper. He married Lela May Bell Donelson on April 5, 1942, in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. She preceded him in death in 1980. He later married Alice L. Belton-Irvine on June 6, 1987, also in Arkansas City. Fred was a fifth generation brick and stone mason. He worked with Jim Lowry, specializing in fireplaces. Together they worked on many homes and other structures in Arkansas City. He was a longtime member of the Salvation Army, former scout master and youth leader and volunteer for the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of the home; two daughters, Fredeana and her husband, Don Windham of Haysville, Shirleyne and her husband, Gale Rider of Arkansas City; five step-sons, Ron Irvine of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Al Irvine of St. Louis, Mo., Mike Irvine of Arkansas City, Jim Irvine of Plymouth, Mich., Joe Irvine of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Starla Clithero, Angela and her husband, Major Tim Nesley, USAF, Gayle and her husband, David Ast, Anthony and his wife, Candace Rider; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Hannah, Nathanael, Bethany, Bryce, Acen and Trace; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren including Jon Irvine, Becky Irvine and her child Nkosi. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lela; twin sons, Larry and Garry Levick; two brothers, Ralph and Leroy Levick; and a sister, Shirley Jean Levick.
