Carolyn Louise (Stevens) Wyckoff
Carolyn Louise (Stevens) Wyckoff, of Winfield, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at her home. Internment services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14, before the scheduled 11:15 a.m. Memorial Service at First Baptist Church in Winfield. Friends may call Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, from 3-8 p.m. The family will greet visitors from 6-7:30 p.m., at the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Carolyn was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Winfield, Kan., to Hazel Hart Stevens and Robert Crawford Stevens. She was educated in Winfield, graduating in 1942. She married Forrest Wyckoff in 1941 and he preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2000. Carolyn was a long-time bookkeeper and manager of Wyckoff Television, the family business of 41 years. Survivors include three sons, Jode Douglas Wyckoff and Monte Steven Wyckoff, of Winfield, and Mike Lowell Wyckoff, of DeKalb, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jay Wyckoff, Pieter Wyckoff and Lynn Wyckoff; one brother, Robert Stevens, of Wichita; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the First Baptist Church.
Marie V. Tharp
Marie V. Tharp, 89, Winfield, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, east of Atlanta. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-7 p.m. Thursday. Born April 8, 1918, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Doster and Zoe (Alvis) Daniel. She worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as a LMHTII until retirement following 26 years of service. Survivors include her sons, Larry Zimmerman, Newkirk, Ron Zimmerman, Winfield, and Cecil Muxlow, Osawatomie; daughters, Neila Owen, Arkansas City, Mary Smith and Linda Capps, Winfield, Carol Segraves, McKenzie, Tenn., and Marna Murphy, Elk City, Kan.; brother, Perry Daniel, Prescott, Ariz.; sisters, Betty Collins and Norma Daniel, of Toronto, Kan.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jerry and Garry Zimmerman; one brother, Doster Daniel; and one great-grandson.
A memorial has been established for Burden Senior Citizens Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
Lawrence K. Bonewell
Lawrence K. Bonewell, 80, of Arkansas City died, Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at the Riverview Manor in Oxford.

Norma Rose Walker
Norma Rose Walker, 84, lifelong resident of Cowley County, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in the Maple City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Born July 7, 1923, in Maple City, she was the daughter of John (Pat) Vernon and Flora Magdalena (Morgan) Robinson. She was a career educator for 34 years in Cowley and Sumner counties. At the time of her retirement, she was teaching in Oxford. Survivors include her daughters, Rita Hostetter, Andover, and Patty Hoover, Winfield; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verle Walker; her parents; brothers, John, Jim and Gilbert Robinson; and sister, Mildred Pappan.

Funeral services for Maxine Webb, 66, Arkansas City, who died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church, Newkirk, officiated. Interment was in Parker Cemetery. The eulogy was given by Jeff Bute. Special music was by Joe Lessert. Casket bearers were R.J. Hardcastle, Barry Biddy, David Webb, Larry Mowry, Barry Webb and Doug Webb.

Beryl Grace (Bland) Wahlenmaier Metz
Graveside services for Beryl Grace (Bland) Wahlenmaier Metz, 95, Arkansas City, who died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, in the Geuda Springs Cemetery, Geuda Springs. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church in Newkirk, officiated. Special music was by the Byers family.

Memorial services for Sarrah Emma Grimes, 73, Arkansas City, who died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at the Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Whaley officiated. Honorary casket bearers were Jeremy Stickel, Dean Westenfeld, Mike Evinger, Mark Kendrick and John Stickel.

Funeral services for Fred E. Levick, 84, Arkansas City, who died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Gale Rider, Mt. Zion Community Church and Pastor David Ast, Random Road Chapel, officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Pianist was Janet Carter. Special music was by Starla Clithero, Angela Nesley and Rachel Newby. Casket bearers were Anthony Rider, John Irvine, Joe Irvine, Mike Irvine, Jim Irvine and Al Irvine.

Graveside services for Jay Charles Bruner, 84, Arkansas City, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in Hope Cemetery. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church, Newkirk, officiated. Military honors were given by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Honorary casket bearers were J.C.'s family and lifelong friends.

Lydia E. Moreno, 84, homemaker, Wichita, formerly of Arkansas City and Wellington, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m Saturday, Aug. 8, 2007, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2701 Pattie, Wichita. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City. Rosary services will be at 6:30 p.m. today, at the Cochran Mortuary, Chapel of the Roses, 1411 N. Broadway. Survivors include daughters and sons, Esther Caire, Michael Moreno and Rose M. Short, all of Wichita, Richard Moreno, of Moline, Margaret Gallardo, Valpariso, Ind., Tony Moreno Jr., of Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Al Esquivel, San Diego, Calif., Pedro Esquivel, San Antonio, Texas, Lupe Esquivel and Margie Rygg, both of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her children, Olivia Renteria and Robert Dale Moreno; brothers, Frank and Gabriel Esquivel; sister, Valentine Savala and twin brothers, Guadalupe and Francisco Esquivel.

Aquila Louise Driver
Aquila Louise Driver, infant daughter of Chelsy S. and Rosalyn (Jennings) Driver, died Aug. 15, 2007, at the William Newton Memorial Hospital. Graveside services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the Riverview Cemetery. Pastor Eugene McCarty and Pastor Lovie McCarty will officiate. Survivors include her parents, Chelsy S. and Rosalyn (Jennings) Driver; two sisters, Genesis Godbolt, and Zaria Driver; brother, Braedon Driver all of Derby, Kan.; grandparents, Mary Gross, Rodney Jennings, Harold Gross all of Winfield, Kan., and Beverly Driver of Fayette, Ala.; great-grandparents, Abbie and Aaron Gunter of Wichita, Kan.; Frances Driver of Fayette, Ala.; several aunts and uncles.

Tessie Marie Frisbie
Tessie Marie Frisbie, 81, Udall, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service, Winfield. Interment will follow in the Red Bud Cemetery, north of Udall. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2007. The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Green Bay, Wis., she was the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Heauvelmans) Hermsen. She was employed as an aide at Wesley Medical Center and was a homemaker. Survivors include her children, John Frisbie, Udall, Bonnie Padfield, Zenda, Kan., Don Laurent, Goodman, Wis., and Carol Mattson, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; brother, Gerald Hermsen, Green Bay, Wis.; sister, Burn Staddler, Green Bay; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and five brothers and seven sisters.

Clara Marie Harader, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Wichita.

John Elliot Pingry
John Elliot Pingry, Arkansas City, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the Medicalodge North Post Acute Center in Arkansas City. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in the Silverdale Cemetery. Cremation has been effected. John was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Silverdale, to Oscar Oliver Pingry and Minnie Belle (Willis) Pingry. He attended Silverdale schools. On July 3, 1937, he married Nevalene Dorothy Nason in Newkirk, and the couple made their home in Arkansas City and Maple City. John was a farmer and diesel mechanic for Rodeo Meats. He worked for the meat packing company 42 years before his retirement in October 1979. John was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as head usher and taught Sunday school. He was also a steward in his union and on the Boy Scout Council. Survivors include his wife, Nevalene of the home; son, John E. Pingry Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Burden; daughters, Darlene Atkins, and her husband, Merrill, of Ponca City, Ann Long and her husband, Gary, of Arkansas City; sister, Wilma Voth, of Arkansas City; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna Wood and Lola Wineinger; brothers, Jess Pingry, Audrey Pingry and Gilbert Pingry.

Florence Huddleston
Florence Huddleston, 83, Winfield, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in the Cambridge Cemetery
in Cambridge, Kan. Born Aug. 5, 1924, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Elihu and Mary (Hovey) Rambo. She was a homemaker and taught at a Christian School. Survivors include her son, Chris Cadwell; daughter, Connie Chatham, Winfield; stepson, Dr. Ron Caskey, Denver, Colo.; brother, Clarence Rambo, Independence, Mo.; sister, Roberta Gentile, Spokane, Wash.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three husbands, Harold Cadwell, Gene Gaskey and James Huddleston.

Aleen Grace Alford
Aleen Grace Alford, 72, Geuda Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the Medicalodge East in Arkansas City. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Pastor Kerry Harvey will officiate. Cremation has been effected. Aleen was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Burnet, Texas, to John Henry Rushing and Dela Mae (Whitehead) Rushing. She graduated form Junction City High School. On April 9, 1958, she married Firman P. Alford, in Anaheim, Calif. Aleen was an artist and instructor in Perryville, Mo., and Slidel, La., where she began an art program for hearing impaired children. Aleen was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Firman Alford of the home; son, Moody Alford and his wife, Lesia, of Geuda Springs; daughters, Robbie Hansen and her husband, Alex, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Rona Hater and her husband, Mark, of Burlington, Ky.; brothers, James H. Rushing, of Seal Beach, Calif., and John Rushing of Redmond, Wash.; sisters, Maudie Nickles, of Cypress, Calif., and Mary Polvado of Wickenberg, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Della Rushing and Jenny Chapman.

Cecil "Cy" A. Zink
Cecil "Cy" A. Zink, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at the Ponca City Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at the Webb City Church of God. Pastor Jackie Voegle officated. Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park, Ponca City. Born Jan. 10, 1922, in Ocheleta, Okla., he was the son of Clarence and Frances (Carter) Zink. He worked as a pumper for the Phillips Petroleum Company most of his life. Survivors include his wife, Wanetta (Guffy) Zink of the home; two daughters, Mary Ruth Zink Katcher, Newkirk, Rebecca Ann Zink, Newkirk; one son, Eddie Dean Zink, Ingles, Kan.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Zink, Clyde Bill Zink, both of Borger, Texas; Louis Zink Sr., Arkansas City, and Ruben Zink, Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy and Clarence Jr. Zink; and one sister, Leona Zink Yeager.

Olen J. Howe
Olen J. Howe, 94, Winfield, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, southeast of South Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m today. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Born Feb. 23, 1913, in Bluff City, he was the son of Clarence E. and Katie Mae (Johnston) Howe. He retired from Gott in Winfield, after 30 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Winfield; daughters, Val Joyce Adams, Haysville, and Marilyn Mitchell, South Haven; six grandchildren; brother, Marion Howe, Bethany, Okla.; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and nieces and nephews.
