Barbara "Sue" Lindberg

Barbara "Sue" Lindberg, age 76, homemaker and long-time Wellington resident, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington. Pastor Jeremy Jacob and Don Kimsey will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 7 - 9 p.m. Barbara "Sue" (Kimsey) Lindberg was born on Feb. 7, 1931, at Arkansas City, to Albert E. Kimsey and Pearl I. (Rodman) Kimsey. She married Charles A. Lindberg on Feb. 7, 1980, in Wellington. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2004. Sue enjoyed crafting and was a member of the Society of Decorative Painters. Her family was her greatest love and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member at the Immanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Todd, of Wichita, and Beanie McGlothlin, of Augusta; daughter-in-law, Janet Schuchman, of Wellington; one stepson, Charles Lindberg III, of Austin, Texas; one stepdaughter, Denise Roberts, of Jerald, Texas; three brothers, Vernon Kimsey, of Medicine Lodge, A. E. Kimsey Jr., of Arkansas City, and Don Kimsey, of Winfield; four sisters, Bette Heimer, of Winfield, Maxine Barrett, of Shawnee, June Mavity, of Arkansas City, and Margaret Laingor, of Arkansas City; eight grandchildren, Susan, Dan, Jennifer, Julie, Chris, Kimber, Michael and Kortni; and 10 great-grandchildren, Madi, Nick, Peter, Michael, Micah, Keadin, Elli, John Paul, Catherine and Marilee. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sisters; her husband, Charles; son, Jerry; sister, Jean Smaller; and son-in-law, Terry Hull.
A memorial has been established with Immanuel Baptist Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Frank Funeral Home, Wellington.

Kyla Marie Patterson

Kyla Marie Patterson was born prematurely Sept. 28, 2007, and died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Her parents are Kasey Hornseth, Wichita and Justin Anthony Patterson, Udall. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in the Udall Cemetery in Udall. The Rev. Tony Caffalette of the Country View Baptist Church, Udall, officiated. Pink balloons were released in her memory. Survivors include her grandparents, Lisa Hornseth, Wichita, Marvin and Rhonda Hornseth, Towanda; Justin S. Patterson, Arkansas City, and Etta and Tray Long, Oxford; great-grandparents, Barbara Oliver, Wichita, Darlene and Ron Nelson, Udall, and Jack and Evelyn Patterson, Arkansas City; great-great-grandparents, James and Irene Williams, Udall, and many extended relatives and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Merritta J. (Jamieson) Billings

Merritta J. (Jamieson) Billings, 82, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Medicalodge North. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Opal Olive Bloyd

Opal Olive Bloyd, 89, of Coffeyville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The casket has been closed. The family would welcome friends at her residence. The daughter of Fred D. and Hattie (Richardson) Smothermon, she was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Knowles, Okla. She was a certified nurses' assistant at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for 44 years. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Atkins, of Arkansas City, and Linda Hale and her husband, Lonnie, of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Bloyd; her parents; two brothers; one sister; and one son-in-law, Mike Atkins.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, Coffeyville.

Fred C. Barnes

Fred C. Barnes, 63, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Fredrick Charles Barnes

Fredrick Charles Barnes, 63, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Pastor Gale Rider will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Fred was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Norton County, Kan., to Clyde F. Barnes and Opal F. (Boatman) Barnes. He attended Arkansas City schools, graduating from the high school. Fred married Barbara Bennington and the couple had two children, Heidi and Sean. Fred was a welder. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his daughter, Heidi Foley, of Topeka; mother, Opal Barnes; brother, Bob Barnes and wife, Catherine; sisters, Glenna Baker and Verna Welch; friend, Carolyn Horton and daughter, Tammy Retzer, all of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Benjamin, Zachary, Aribella, Alexander, Preston, Tyler and Tynil. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Clyde; and son, Sean Barnes.
A memorial has been established for the Fred C. Barnes Grandchildren Trust. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Eric Newlin

Eric Newlin, 29, of Wellington, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Hillside Baptist Church in Wellington. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Eric was born June 17, 1978, in Wichita, the son of Brian and Cindy Metcalf Newlin. Eric worked as a carpenter and framer in Wichita for several years. Survivors include his parents Brian and Cindy Newlin, of Wellington; son, Quentin Newlin, of Wellington; grandmother, Carolyn Metcalf, of Wichita; and Juanita Crowden, of Wichita; and sister, Juanita Porter, of Leeds, Ala. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Buck Metcalf and Donald E. Newlin; and step-grandfather, Lee Crowden.
A memorial has been established for the benefit of Quentin Newlins' Education. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington.

Merlene Richardson Hill

Merlene Richardson Hill, 85, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 26, 2007, at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The Rev. W.O. Reed Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Merritta J. (Jamieson) Billings

Merritta J. (Jamieson) Billings, 82, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at Medicalodge North. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Rita was born March 5, 1925, in Bluff City, Kan., to Earl and Etta Jamieson. She was reared and educated in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1943. On Nov. 10, 1948 , Rita married Robert Billings in Wichita. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Rita worked as a secretary for Peabody, Gordon & Piatt. Rita was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sons, Mark Billings and his wife, Rebecca, of Colorado Springs, Colo., David Billings and his wife, Linda, of Arkansas City; daughters, Jeanie Shoup and her husband, Dwight, of Arkansas City, Joni Johnson and her husband, Hank, of Winfield; grandchildren, Stefanie Rucker, of Aurora, Colo., Trisha Wyckoff, of Arkansas City, Erick Shoup, of Oklahoma City, Becky Byers, of Castle Rock, Colo., Marcy Cook, of Blackwell, Ryan Billings, of Oklahoma City, Nick Billings, of Buckeye, Ariz., Sean Billings and Trey Billings, both of Arkansas City; sister, Maxine McCreary, of Wellington. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; brothers, Dwight and Ross; and sister, Dorothy Gardner.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Berklie Boggs Perico

Funeral services for Berklie Boggs Perico, 71, who died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Rindt-Edman Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Chambers of the Central Christian Church officiated. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Pervis Tate Sr.

Pervis Tate Sr., 75, of Wellington, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at his home in Wellington under the care of his family and Hospice. Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at the Hawks Funeral Home Chapel, Wellington. Interment will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Hawks Funeral Home. Pervis was born May 11, 1932, in Pottsboro, Texas, to Oran Allison Tate and Grace Orlene (Lynch) Tate. He worked at Kansas Casting foundry in Bell Plaine under Ron Palmeroy for 14 years until illness caused him to quit. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Tate of the home; four sons, Pervis Jr., of Larnard, Michael, of Wellington, Dwayne, of Wichita, Anthony, of Dodge City; four daughters, Cheryl Washington, of Wellington, Mary Eathely, of Wellington, Dorothy Neal, of Wichita, Diane Tate, of Wichita; one brother, Allison Eugene Tate, of Texarkana, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren. Pervis was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Grace Tate; daughter Dorothy Lee; three sisters, Lillian White, Maurine Tate, Ora Imogene Robinson; and two grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Anchor of Hope Church in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington.

Merlene R. Hill

Merlene R. Hill departed this life and took her flight to glory on Oct. 19, 2007. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. A wake will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Nesbit, Miss., to the late Jones Richardson Jr. and Carrie Cross Richardson. She accepted Christ at age 12 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Nesbit, Miss. Upon moving to Kansas in 1956 she joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she served as a faithful and devoted member as well as president of the senior choir, president of the mission board and later as a mother of the church. Merlene was united in holy matrimony with Horace Hill Jr., on Sept. 24, 1943. To this union seven children were born, two sons and five daughters. Merlene was a wonderful homemaker and worked as a care-provider. After retirement she worked at Frances Willard Elementary as a foster grandparent through the Cowley County Foster Grandparent Program where she nurtured and assisted children/students. One of her greatest joys was helping people. She leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons, Horace Hill and his wife, Bobriller, Steven Hill and his wife, Gina, both of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Linda Hill-Stanley and her husband, Napoleon, Venus Hill, Marilyn Hill-Lolar and her husband, Kemp, Patricia Hill-Sanders and her husband, Walter, all of Arkansas City, Marva Hill of Wichita; two sisters, Willie Bea Matthews and Carrie Gray, both of Southaven, Miss.; one sister-in-law, Amanda Parker, of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Dietra Stanley, Monique Cappell, Chevella Portley, Napoleon Stanley II, Christopher Hill, LaToya Hill, Kiara Hill, and Joseph Hill; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Merlene was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, two brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial has been established with the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Deborah "Debi" Cox

Deborah "Debi" Cox, 49, Oxford, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at her home.
Arrangements are pending and under the direction of the Oxford Funeral Service, Oxford.

Katheryn Elizabeth Adams

Katheryn Elizabeth Adams, 82, longtime resident of Fairfax, Okla., died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at the Fairfax Manor Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax. Graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City. The family will receive other family and friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today. Katheryn was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Arkansas City, the daughter of Marvin O. Mayfield and Mae (Foley) Mayfield. Katheryn attended Arkansas City High School. After graduation in 1942, she began a three-year nursing program in Winfield, at St. John's College of Nursing. In 1945, Katheryn completed the certificate program and became a registered nurse. Her 40-year nursing career spanned from 1945 to 1985. In November of 1948, Katheryn married John J. Pickens at her parent's home in Kansas. They had two children. After John's death in 1973, she married Toy Adams in 1980 in Fairfax, Okla. Katheryn enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and going to the Senior Center. She was a member of the First Christian Church, and many years ago, a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her daughter, Julia Pickens, of Arlington, Texas; son, Bart Pickens and his wife, Debi of Yukon, Okla.; grandchildren, Amberle Pickens, of Stillwater, Okla.; Christopher Pickens and his wife, Karen, of Sand Springs, Okla.; nephews, Tracy Cole, of Coeuer D'Alene, Idaho, and Clark Cole, of Ponca City, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and one sister, Geraldine.
Memorial contributions have been established for the First Christian Church, 154 N. Fourth St., Fairfax, OK 74637 or to Colon Cancer Alliance, 175 Ninth Ave., New York, NY 10011. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax, Okla.

Lary Dee Nichols

Lary Dee Nichols, 70, Winfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at the Kansas Veterans Home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Cremation has been effected. Born Aug. 2, 1937, in Winfield, he was the son of Robert (Bob) and Mabel (Babe) Nichols. He worked as a jet engine mechanic at General Electric in Winfield and for Kimberly Clark in Appleton, Wis. Survivors include his son, Shane Nichols, Winfield; daughters, Jana Porter, Clearwater, and Teresa Nichols, Winfield; two grandchildren; brother, Gary Nichols, Stockton, Calif.; sister, Betty Miller, Ponca City. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, and a brother-in-law.
A memorial has been established to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Danny Ray Lambert

Danny Ray Lambert, 56, of Arkansas City, formerly of Winfield, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in Wichita, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Winfield. Danny was born Jan. 9, 1951, in East Prairie, Mo., to Charley A. and Lucille R. (Rice) Lambert. He was reared and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1968. After high school, Danny received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Southwestern College in 1975. Danny then proceeded to Kansas University where he received his Master of Arts degree in social work in 1981. On Dec. 27, 1973, Danny married Julia A. Lauver in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, Phoenix, Topeka, then Emporia. They divorced in 1984 and remained friends and colleagues. Danny worked for the State of Kansas as a supervisor for the Social and Rehabilitation Services. He was also a member of the KU Alumni Association. Survivors include his former spouse and friend, Julia (Lauver) Lambert, of Winfield; brothers, James Lambert and his wife, Phyllis, of Arkansas City, Allan Lambert and his wife, Linda, of Tulsa, Gerry Lambert, of Arkansas City, David Lambert, of Tulsa; sisters, Jean Hinton and her husband, Curtis of Goldsboro, N.C., Betty Bowlby, of Lawton, Okla., Shirley Wood and her husband, Harry, of Arkansas City, Glenda Campbell, of Arkansas City, Nancy Karen Brown, of Coffeyville; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Danny was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Carole Stone, and Virginia Moore.
A memorial has been established with the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
