Geraldine V. "Deanie" Oller
Geraldine V. "Deanie" Oller, 78, Spivey, Kan., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Wellington. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper Chapel. Chaplain Dan Floyd will officiate. Interment will be in the Duquoin Cemetery
in Duquoin, Kan. Friends may call at the funeral home until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday. Born June 18, 1929, on the family farm in rural Argonia, she was the daughter of Ray and Gertrude "May" (Brown) Oller. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at the F&D Restaurant and Kingman Hospital. Survivors include her sons, Ray Oller, Park City, and John Oller, Arkansas City; daughter, Anna Smithhisler, Anthony; brother, Hiram Medlam, Argonia; sisters, Marguerite Stricker, Great Bend, and Betty Medlam, Anthony; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Oller; her parents; five brothers, Alvin, Olen, Melvin, Carl and Harold; three sisters, Mary Ann Medlam, Fern Kinney and Helen Olmstead.

Bradley Clinton Fisher
Bradley Clinton Fisher, 82, Arkansas City, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Medicalodge East. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. Nov. 2, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Arkalon Cemetery
in Liberal. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends form 6-8 p.m. Born Feb. 12, 1925, near Liberal, he was the son of Robert J. and Eva L. Rossel Fisher. He pastored Friends churches in Colorado, Oklahoma, and in Arkansas City, and other Kansas locations. He worked at Friends Special Schools in San Antonio, Texas, and pastored Methodist Churches in Prairie View and Hicks Chapel in Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Mae Fisher; sons, Mark, of LaJunta, Colo., and John, of Tulsa; daughters, Treva Clowe, Colorado Springs, Euleta Barr, Liberal, and Lynnetta Chitwood, Arkansas City; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Fisher, and his sister, Betty Williams.
Memorials have been established for Camp Quaker Haven, Arkansas City, and Hospice Care of Kansas, 1401 Main St., Winfield, KS 67156. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

George Homer LaBrue
George Homer LaBrue, 94, of Thomas, Okla., died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in the Thomas Nursing Center at Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Custer City, Okla., with Rev. Garry Vincent officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery
in Weatherford, Okla. Born June 27, 1913, in Wellington, he was the son of John and Mina (DeWalt) LaBrue. He was raised and attended school in Wellington. He married Vera I. Lowery in 1936 and to this union was born three children, Homer DeVoe, Mina Jane, and Dale Lee. He moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1943 and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, Mauer Neuer and Apco-Total transferring to Perry, Okla., in 1958, retiring in 1978. He married Grace Leaser in 1974. He moved to Thomas, Okla., in 1992 to be near his daughter. He loved music and loved to dance. For many years after he retired, he spent his winters in the Texas gulf area, and loved to fish and to go to all the area dances. He loved people and never met a stranger. He attended the United Methodist Church of Custer City, Okla. Survivors include his three children, Homer DeVoe LaBrue and his wife, Lois, of Arkansas City, Mina Jane Hunter and her husband, Chet, of Thomas, Okla., and Dale Lee LaBrue and his wife, Karen, of Denison, Texas; seven grandchildren, Teresa Stalnaker and her husband, Terry, of Arkansas City, Anita LaBrue, of Wichita, Ken Hunter, of Weatherford, Okla., Lisa Ronan, of Thomas, Melesa Yandell and her husband, Neal, of Davis, Okla., Jeff LaBrue and his wife, Nancy, of Texas, and Candy Williams and her husband, Duane, of Watonga, Okla.; ten great-grandchildren, Cole Stalnaker, of Longmont, Colo., Carson Stalnaker, of Arkansas City, Holly Ronan, of Thomas, Aaron Yandell, of Davis, Okla., Erika, Jayme and Collin Kourt, of Watonga, Okla., Austin, Keith and Craig LaBrue, of Texas; and his best friend of many years, Marie Sanders, of Custer City, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mina LaBrue; two brothers, John and Arthur; and three sisters, Ollie, Lenore and Katherine.

Kenneth B. (Ladd) Underkofler Sr.
Memorial services for Kenneth B. (Ladd) Underkofler Sr., who died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, of the First Christian Church, Newkirk, officiated. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Special music was by Lyle Lovett, Kenneth Underkofler Jr. and Ruben Studdard. Honorary casket bearers were Kenneth B. Underkofler Jr., Richard L. Vann Sr., Richard L. Vann Jr., Richard J. Ladd Jr., Jack Underkofler, Ashton G. Ladd, Colby A. Underkofler, Bruce L. Lucille Watson Jennings
Funeral services for Lucille Watson Jennings, 87, Arkansas City, who died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at the Church of God in Christ. Pastor James Watson Jr. and Elder Charles Jennings, Lucille's godson, officiated. Interment was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Organist waas Delphia Jennings. Choir leader was Edward Greene. Casket bearers were Chris Allen, Kevin Harper, Charles Jennings II, Hosey Harper Jr., Rodney Jennings Jr. and Bronson Jennings. Honorary casket bearers were Willy Jordan, James Crawford, Theodore Morris, Burrell Donaldson, Harvey Fields, Harold Morris, Albert Crawford. Honorary flower bearers were Georgia Jordan, Louise Morris, Beulah Davis and Estella Thompson.

Jack W. "Wes" Robinson
Jack W. "Wes" Robinson, 87, formerly of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at Rockport, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery
Chapel. Visitation will begin Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wes was born June 23, 1919 in Wichita to John H. and Gladys R. (Boyce) Robinson. He was reared and educated in Enid, Okla. Wes owned and operated a courier service on motorcycles in Long Beach, Calif. for several years before being employed by California Ship Yards, Terminal Island, Calif. He then served in the United States Navy and Coast Guard during WWII from 1942-45. He received the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations Ribbon with one star, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbons with one star. He returned to the Kansas and Oklahoma regions after the war. Wes married Helen Simpson Grainger on Oct. 8, 1945 in Arkansas City where the couple made their home. Wes and Helen were owners/co-owners and operators of several prominent businesses in Arkansas City including Kincaid-Robinson Dry Cleaners, The Green Door Tavern and Mexican Food Restaurant, The Caldwell Tavern in Caldwell, Wes' Supper Club and other smaller businesses. He was an avid fisherman. His hobbies included woodworking and air conditioning and repair. Wes and good friends Bernard Rindt and Wayne Moore devoted lots of time servicing and repairing air conditioning units for needy people throughout the community, to whom they donated both parts and service. He was most recognized by his love of cooking as well as being a friend to many. Wes had a huge appetite for partying and just having a great time. He dearly loved his partner and lifetime best friend Helen, both of his daughters and their families. Wes was a fifty-year member of the Crescent Lodge #133 A.F. & A.M. Arkansas City, the Midian Shrine of Wichita, and the Wichita Consistory. He was also a member of the A.A.O.N.M.S. of Wichita, Scottish Rite, Shelton Beaty Post #18 American Legion, and the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his two daughters, Martha and her husband, Bill Crane, of Mulvane and Linda and her husband, Kelley Erickson, of Westminister, Calif.; grandson Johnny Adamoli of Long Beach, Calif.; granddaughters Rosslyn Somera and Sophia (Lou) Pelekai, both of Kaneohe, Hawaii; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of ten years, Marian Parks; second wife of 46 years, Helen in 1995; five brothers, William Robert, Kenneth Wayne, Rex Humbert, Vernon Dean and Charles Albert; and two sisters, Glenis Kincaid and Bonnie Stovall Glover.
Memorials have been established with Twin Rivers Developmental Support or Habitat for Humanity of Arkansas City. Contributions may be through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Funeral services for Gregory Joe Young, 47, Arkansas City, who died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, of the First Christian Church of Newkirk, officiated. Private interment services were held in Springside Cemetery
in Arkansas City.

Ruby Iness Goodson
Funeral services for Ruby Iness Goodson, 94, Arkansas City, who died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at the First Assembly of God Church. Pastor James Newman officiated. Interment was in the Newkirk Cemetery. Special music was by Carl Nance and Greg Wood. Casket bearers were Ronnie Hutchinson, Leon Williams, Herb Sparks, Roger Brammer, Jim Herren and Don Wood.

Charles Anthony Smith
Charles Anthony Smith, 67, former Newkirk resident, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at his home in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Vas as celebrant. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Arkansas City. Charles Anthony "Tony" Smith was born March 23, 1940, in Winfield, the son of John Joseph and Helen Virginia (Baker) Smith. In Southern California he was a high school teacher. He led the Classical Alliance of the Western States for 40 years. Survivors include his siblings, Stephen Smith, of Newkirk, James Smith, of Stillwater, Marge Harvey, of Bartlesville, Kathy Simmons, of Indian Wells, Calif., Paul Smith, of Newbury Park, Calif., and Peter Smith, of Laguna Niguel, Calif. Tony was preceded in death by his younger brother, Michael, and his parents.

William Wayne Marsh
William Wayne Marsh, 75, of North Richland Hills, Texas, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, surrounded by his family. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel in Ft. Worth, Texas. Wayne was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Classen High School in 1950 and Oklahoma City University in 1959. Wayne served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and continued with a career in the aviation industry. He was an avid pilot who loved attending air shows. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lucille Hanson Marsh; his son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Linda; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jamie Langford; his grandchildren, Chad Cochran, Alina and Logan Marsh, and Whitney and Scott Langford; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

James Rosiere
James Rosiere, 60, Manchester, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at the Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel. Father Charles Howell officiated. Interment followed in the Byrd Cemetery
at Sexton Creek. James was born in Augusta, Kan. He was a Vietnam Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Rosiere; two sons, James Rosiere Jr. and Leo Rosiere; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gloria Bahruth, of Arkansas City, David Rosiere, Pat Brown and Mary Young.

Helen "Holly" Crain
Helen "Holly" Crain, 84, Oxford, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Winfield. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Conelley officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Born Oct. 10, 1923, in Oxford, Helen was born the daughter of Phillip Oliver and Esther Salazar. She worked for the City of Oxford and at the Oxford United Methodist Church as organist and secretary. Holly was also a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jack Crain, of Oxford; sons, Lynson Crain, of Oxford, and Curtis Crain, of Wichita; brother, P.C. Oliver, of Wellington; two grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Melvin Jay Current
Melvin Jay Current, 77, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. Steve Chambers will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery. Melvin was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Arkansas City, to Glenn Linfred Current and Edith Lucile (Coulter) Current. He attended Arkansas City High School graduating in 1948. Melvin joined the United States Navy serving 12 months and then continued his education at Cowley College. On Aug. 2, 1951, he married Donna M. Mullett in Arkansas City, where the couple made their home. She preceded him in death in May 1990. He married Donna J. Bogner in April 1992 and she preceded him in death in September 2003. On March 12, 2005, he married Betty M. Burton and the couple has resided in Arkansas City since. Mel was a member of the Central Christian Church in Arkansas City, Hope Cemetery
Association Board, the Arkansas City Historical Society and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association. Melvin was a commercial pilot, owning and operating Current Aircraft at Strother Field. His life's passion was flight as he solo piloted a plane on his 16th birthday. Mel has flown as a crop duster, flight instructor and charter pilot accumulating tens of thousands of hours. There is not much of the United States Mel has not seen from a bird's-eye view. Survivors include his wife, Betty Current of the home; children, Steven and his wife, Melinda of Winfield, Priscilla Denton and her husband, Ron, of Bartlesville, Okla., and Brian Current and his wife, Cindy, of Arkansas City; stepsons, Bill Burton and his wife, Wendy, of Winfield, Kent Burton and his wife, Wanda, of Tifton, Ga.; stepdaughter, Tracy Bearden and her husband, Hillman, of Bedford, Texas; four grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.
