Beulah L. Hull

Beulah L. Hull, 98, Independence, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at the Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Chapel. The Rev. Jack Weaver of the Call to Worship Ministries, Independence, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Havana City Cemetery, Havana, Kan. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday. The family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today. Beulah was born Jan. 21, 1908, in Paradise, Mo., to John Walter and Leilia (Wilhoit) Norris. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Harold Hull, Independence; two daughters, Helen Boyer, Arkansas City, and Hazel Chaney, Wichita; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holley Enos Hull; her parents; one son, Holley Hull Jr.; and two great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.

Norma J. Monroe

Norma J. Monroe, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City. Interment will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Norma was born Aug. 29, 1926, to George Morhain and Martha Ellen (Husted) Morhain. She was a teacher's aide and homemaker. Survivors include her two sons, Charles W. Monroe and Thomas M. Monroe, both of Arkansas City; sister, Phyllis C. Hood, of Tulsa Okla.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles W. Monroe; and brother, Virgil C. Morhain.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Edna Dale Clark

Edna Dale Clark, 93, Dexter, died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006 at Dexter Care Center. Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at Dexter Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Born July 12, 1912 in Dexter to Clark and Lillian Tunison, she lived on a farm in the Highland community east of Dexter her entire life. She graduated from Dexter High School and attended college in Pittsburg to receive her teaching certificate. In 1936, she married Lawrence Clark, who preceded her in death in 1977. Survivors include a brother, W.C. Buck Tunison, Wichita; sisters Bernadine Shafer, Dexter and Ruby McDaniel, Woodinville, Wash.; daughter Rita Hardner, Kirkland, Wash.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Jeanne in 1992. Arrangements are under the direction of the Miles Funeral Service.

Margaret Elizabeth Barr

Margaret Elizabeth Barr, 90, Derby, and a former Arkansas City resident, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006. Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. and visitation on Monday, Jan. 29 from 1-8 p.m. at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City. She is survived by a daughter, Gayle Dowser, Norco, Calif.; one granddaughter, Lisa May Dowser-Shaver, Hollywood, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Reba Livingston, Derby, and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Enterprise Academy, PO Box 215, Enterprise, KS, 67441. Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, is handling the arrangements.

Evelyn Albertine Banks

Evelyn Albertine Banks, 90, Arkansas City, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Medicalodge East. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at the Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today. Evelyn was born June 6, 1915, near Gorham, Kan. She was the daughter of Luther and Alice (Graves) Mendell. She was a 1934 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson. She later moved to Oakland, Calif., where she worked as a waitress. On Oct. 13, 1950, she married Frank Banks. She moved to Arkansas City in March of 2000. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Oakland, Calif. Survivors include nieces, Norma Hawkins and Bea Mendell, of Arkansas City, Dorothy Deal, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Helen Ramage of Placentia, Calif., Shirly Brown of Salinas, Calif., nephew, Bob Sealy of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Emma Mendell of Washburn, N.D. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, her parents, five sisters and three brothers.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Mary "Jane" Nicewander Emert

Mary "Jane" Nicewander Emert, died suddenly on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the Assembly of God Church in Newkirk. The Rev. James Newman of Arkansas City will officiate. Born Sept. 30, 1938, in Topeka, she was the daughter of Richard and Zela Nicewander. Jane was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Newkirk, where her husband pastors. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, the Rev. Bill Emert of Kaw City, Okla.; sons, Rick Emert and wife, Daphne, Kaw City, James Emert and wife, Kathy of Borger, Texas, Mark Emert, Wichita; daughters, Bonita Wiederstein and husband, Greg, Wichita, and daughter, Josie Jarboe and husband, Heath, Cedar Vale; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Nicewander; stepfather, Loren Nelson, both of Clay Center; two stepbrothers, Lonnie Nelson, Mt. Hope, Kan., and Steve Nelson, Kansas City, Kan., and a host of friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials or arrangements may be sent in care of The Assembly of God Church, 424 S. Main, Newkirk, OK 74647. Memorials will be to assist with expenses. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davidson Funeral Home.

Albert L. Morain

Albert L. Morain, 73, Winfield, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday. Born Jan. 22, 1933, in Peru, Kan., he was the son of Leland (Lee) Wilson, and Ocie (Osburn) Morain. Albert was employed with Butler Brothers for many years before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Boots) Morain, of the home; his son, Kenneth Morain, of Texas; daughters, JoAnn Downing, of Arkansas City, and Karen Sue Faber, of Wyoming; brother, George Morain, of Augusta; and sister, Viola Guier, of Winfield. In addition to his parents, Aibert was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby, Charity, and Lena.

Memorials have been established for The Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Charles (Wind Walker) Carriger

Charles (Wind Walker) Carriger, 76, of Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at his daughter's home in Wichita. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of E. L. and Clare E. (Overby) Carriger. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his daughters, Amanda Haines, of Wichita, and Tanya Zachary, Pittsburgh, Pa.; brother, Jerald Wiebe, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Porter) Carriger, three sons and two daughters.
A memorial has been established for the National Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.

Virginia Drennan

Virginia Drennan, 94, Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Cumbernauld Village. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Born on Aug. 30, 1911, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Helen Mary (Arner) and Walther Kenreich. She taught in Kiowa, Kan., for one year and while her husband was overseas in the service, Virginia and her father-in-law managed Dean's Service. Survivors include sons, Bill Drennan, Jerry Drennan and Bob Drennan, all of Winfield; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean Drennan; and brother, Waither Kenreich Jr.
A memorial has been established in Virginia's name with Grace United Methodist Church and the General Scholarship Fund at Southwestern College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.

Lyle L. Luiken

Lyle L. Luiken, 79, of Arkansas City, Kan., died at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center Monday, Jan. 30, 2006. Lyle was born July 1, 1926, to Nick E. Luiken and Susan (Radhaz) Luiken in Mankato, Minn. He is survived by two brothers, Richard N. Luiken, of Fairbolt, Minn., and Robert J. Luiken, of Lake Crystal, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, and one brother. Cremation has been affected.
Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.

Leta Beryl Wheeler

Leta Beryl Wheeler, 79, Wellington, died early Saturday evening, Jan. 28, 2006, at her daughter's home in South Haven, Kan., surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the First Baptist Church, 201 W. Lincoln, Wellington. The Rev. Tom Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from until 9 p.m. today. The family will greet and receive friends from 6-8 p.m. She was born the daughter of John Bryan and Lydia Marie (Morgan) Price on Jan. 22, 1927, in Arkansas City. Leta was united in marriage to Warren "Doe" HalIman in 1946 in Winfield. They lived in Arkansas City, after he was discharged from the United Stales Army following WWII. They moved to a farm in Elk County and had a grade-A dairy which they operated for several years. Doe became ill so they had to cease the operation. Leta then ran a restaurant in Grenola, Kan., until Doe died two years later in 1971. Leta then moved to Wellington, and worked at the hospital in the dietary department. She met and married Phillip Sherrill "P.S." Wheeler, a retired railroader, in Wellington. They were married in 1973 at Wellington. P.S. died in 1982. Leta found a home working for Dillon's Grocery Store where she retired after 20 years as a meat wrapper. Leta was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the choir. She loved to stay busy volunteering at the Wellington Food Bank and the Sumner Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. In addition to her church, she was active in the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Golden Chain, and Retired Railroad NARVRE. At any given time you would see her at the senior center where she enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include her son, Ronald L. Hallman, and his wife, Gastonia, N. C.; daughter, Sharlyn W. Cadek, South Haven; stepson, Phillip L. Wheeler, and his wife, Kim, of Wellington; stepdaughter, Sherry Ann Graham, of Lake Jackson, Texas; brothers, Dean L. Price, McPherson, Kansas, John Wayne Price, Arkansas City, Earl Leon Price, Wichita, Jerry Lee Price, Oxford; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her two husbands she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mae Johnson, LaVerne Dobbs, Maxine Palmer and Alma Berens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 201 W. Lincoln, Wellington, KS 67152. Contributions may be mailed or made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home & Crematory, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kan. Lois Briggs

Lois Briggs, 69, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Tahlequah, Okla. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Paul Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in Tahlequah City Cemetery. Born Sept. 11,1936 in Tipton, Okla., she was the daughter of Floyd M. and Ida Mae (Dove) Randolph. Lois was in the music ministry and was a published songwriter. She was the former associate pastor of Abundant Life Fellowship in Arkansas City. Lois was also a member of the Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association for 14 years. Lois spent her younger years in Denton, Texas, and then in El Centro, Calif. She returned to Plano, Texas, in the mid 1950s, moved to California in the early 1960s, and returned again to Texas in the mid 1960s. She moved to Oklahoma in the late 1960s and married the father of her children, Robert L. Ramsey Sr., May 22, 1968, in Newkirk, Okla. In 1979, Lois moved to Arkansas City. She married Dale Briggs on Feb. 12, 1999, in Arkansas City. For the past six months, Lois has resided in the Briggs Community of Tahlequah, Okla. Survivors include her husband, Dale Briggs, of the home; her mother, Ida Mae Randolph, of Blackwell; a daughter, Dolly Ruth Carlile, of Kentucky; eight sons, Rustin Briggs, Blackwell, Danny Ramsey, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jerry Ramsey, of Texas, Robert Ramsey Jr., Elk City, Okla., Ronald Ramsey , Ponca City, Jack Ramsey, Arkansas City, John Ramsey, Dexter, and Sam Ramsey, McCreager, Iowa; three sisters, Vivian Johnson, of Calif., Martha Anderson, of Blackwell, Okla., and Ruth Sheppard, of Calif.; two brothers, Joe Randolph, of Kansas City, and David Randolph, Siloam Springs, Okla.; 25 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Casket bearers include Chuck Anderson, Ted Dolbow, Mike Riggs, Larry Hand, Charles Fulks and Tony Hettinbauch. Honorary Pallbearers include extended family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ron Ramsey Ministry, 342 S. Oak, Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements are under the direction of the Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

Edgar "Ed" M. Stachura

Edgar "Ed" M. Stachura, 77, of Arkansas City, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center of Arkansas City. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at the Parker Cemetery. Reverend Steve Chambers will officiate. Ed was born Nov. 19, 1928, in West Carroll Township, Cambria County, Penn., to Ellamae Miller. He was reared and educated in Barnesboro, Penn. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1958. Ed married Wanda Fildes in Johnson City, Kan. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. He worked for Cessna Aircraft Company at Strother Field many years and later for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the Winfield V.F.W. post. Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home; two daughters, Toni Peterson, of Tulsa, Okla., and Ann Brown; a son, Richard Stachura; a sister, Rosemary Richards, of Beatlesville, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Lacy Shoemaker, of Claremore, Okla. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Julia Miller; his mother, Ellamae Miller; a sister, Mid Tucker; and a brother, George Miller.

The family suggest memorials to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. .

William "Bill" Z. Daily

William "Bill" Z. Daily, 55, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Holdenville, Okla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at the Williamson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Bagend Farm Cemetery near Dustin, Okla., under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 30, 1950, in Purcell, Okla., to William Lester and Rachel Lee (Landrum) Daily. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Ted Baker, in Arkansas City, where he attended school. As a young man, he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps where he served his country with the third Amphibious Force during two tours of Vietnam. Following his discharge in 1970, he attended Cowley County Community College. On May 29, 1979, he married Tina M. Farmer and they first made their home in Arkansas City. After a short time in the Dallas area, they finally settled near Dustin. He was a master stone carver for Choctaw Stone Works. Survivors include his wife, Tina, of the home; four sons, William B. Daily, and wife, Megan; Heath A. Daily, and wife, Crystal; Jason G. Daily, and wife; and Ronald M. Farmer; three brothers, Dennis E. Baker, Dale W. Baker, and John D. Baker; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Peter O'Donoahue; foster brother, Rodger Carmody; and nine grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents and stepfather.
Arrangements are under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home, Dustin, Okla.

Lewis L. Jordan

Lewis L. Jordan, 77, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday Jan. 31, 2006, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center - St. Francis Campus, in Wichita. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family suggests that contributions be made to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Born on Oct. 8, 1928, in Winfield, he was the son of Leonard and Hazel (Peter) Jordan. He attended Harmony rural school and later graduated from Winfield High School in 1946. He was married on Aug. 4, 1947, to Leona Eastman in Newkirk, Okla. As a young man, he worked in the oil fields and later the couple farmed in rural Burden. He recently was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe where he transported crews to their various destinations and formed lasting friendships. Lewis was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. He had served on the Burden Township Board as well as he Burden Fire Board. Survivors include his wife, Leona, of the home; three daughters, Karen Rodenbaugh, and husband, Ted, of Arkansas City; Sharon Watkins, and husband, Roger, of Douglass; and Bonita Helphingstine, and husband, Dan, of Cedar Vale; a brother, Lester Jordan, of Wellington; a sister, Janet Kindt, and husband Don, of Winfield; seven grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kan.
