Rollin R. McCartor served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star.
"Through First Lieutenant McCartor's sound judgment and decisive action, large quantities of depot stocks and railroad facilities were saved. Without regard for his personal safety, he entered burning buildings and worked in the midst of high explosives and stacks of burning fluid and oil, in order to apply to the large conflagration the maximum amount of fire fighting agents. He thereby displayed great presence of mind and ability to cope with a major problem."
Following World War II, Rollin completed his undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma in Norman earning a bachelor's degree.
He worked several jobs in the Texas panhandle including a position at the Amarillo Better Business Bureau prior to moving to Wichita in 1961 where he served as manager/president of the Wichita Better Business Bureau for thirty years.
