Hawkins, John
Hawkins, John Powell, 78, Retired Insurance Professional and owner of Commercial Insurors, Inc., died January 2, 2008. Visitation with the family will be 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, January 6, at Downing & Lahey East Chapel. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, January 7, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Born December 1st, 1929 in St Louis, MO to Edward H. & Martha Cannon Hawkins, John grew up in Osawatomie, KS. He attended the University of Kansas. He and his family moved to Wichita in 1969. John was recently honored with a 50 year recognition for having earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1957. He served as the Wichita CPCU Chapter’s first president in 1973 and on numerous insurance professional committees over the years. He has been active in various community activities including Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, Old Cowtown Museum, Wichita Symphony, Music Theatre of Wichita, Crestview Country Club, Wichita Center for the Arts, WSU Shocker Basketball, Downtown Rotary Club and Eastminster United Presbyterian Church. John enjoyed golf, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and playing string bass over the years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois of Wichita, son, John (Jenny) of Salt Lake City, UT daughter, Laura of Scottsdale, AZ and David (Judy) of Wichita; grandchildren, Annie, Sarah, John and Jessica of Salt Lake City and Daniel of Wichita; brothers, Robert Hawkins of Topeka and Edward Hawkins of Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Eastminster Church or the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum.

McNicol, Rex, 81, ret. President of National Spencer Inc., died Thursday, January 3, 2008. Memorial service is 2:00 pm Monday at University United Methodist Church. Rex was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club and was also a trustee at University United Methodist Church. Survivors include wife Dorothy “Dot”; daughter, Barb (Mike) of San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Tish (Paul) Johnson of Denver, CO and Jennifer (Tom) Jung of San Diego, CA; great-granddaughters, Maddie and Ashley Jung. Dyson, Michael “Mike”, 61, Manufacturing Engineer Hawker Beechcraft, died Monday, January 7, 2008. Visitation with the family 6:00 ~ 8:00 P.M., Friday, January 11 and funeral 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 12, both at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. Mike graduated from Buhler High School and Hutchinson Junior College and attended WSU. He worked at Hawker Beechcraft for 33 years, was President of the Beech Fishing Club and was a long standing member of the Hutchinson Water Sports Club. Mike loved to hunt and fish and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Mike also loved to cook and was always inventing new recipes. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred F. Dyson. Survivors: son, Chad Michael Dyson (Chris Knopp) of Edwards, CO; daughter, Delena Reed (Kelly) of Wesley, AR; father and step-mother, William K. and Edna Dyson of Hutchinson, KS; brothers, Ronald E. Fankhauser, John Cleo, 81, of Newton, formerly of Madison & Wichita, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2004. John was born June 29, 1923 on a farm near Madison, KS to Will & Jennie Fankhauser. He graduated from Madison High School and the University of Kansas with a degree in Pharmacy. He worked several years as a Pharmacist and later as part owner of Arrow Laboratory, Inc. in Wichita. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church in Wichita. Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Wilma Manchester of Topeka and Margaret Margason of Austin, TX. John is survived by his three nephews, Brian Margason, of Cedar Creek, TX., Kevin Margason, of Lexington, TX., and Dana John Margason, of Lancaster, TX. Graveside memorial service 2:00 P.M. Burge Jr., Kenneth Howard "Jerry"
Burge, Kenneth Howard ”Jerry”, Jr., passed away on Saturday, August 21st at the age of 59. A graduate of Campus high school and Wichita State University, Jerry lived his entire life in the Wichita area after moving with his family from Arcadia, KS in the mid-50’s. Jerry was a veteran of the National Guard (1968) and enjoyed a professional career that included Boeing Wichita Credit Union and Southwest Federal Savings and Loan. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen, his son and daughter-in-law David and Kyttra, of Lincoln, NE, his granddaughter Darby, his sister Kay Moss, his mother Una, brother-in-laws Mike Darbyshire, Vern Moss, Rick Hanson, Brian Phillippe, sister-in-laws Jacque Darbyshire, Bonnie Hanson, Debby Phillippe, nephews and nieces Mark Moss; Larry, Carey, and Jon Darbyshire; Matt and Steve Thornton; Riley and Nicholas Phillippe; and Stephanie and Shani Hanson. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East Chapel.

Graveside service 10:30 am Wednesday at Wichita Park Mausoleum Chapel. Preceded in death by first wife Ruth in 1976 and son John in 1992. Survivors: wife Maxine; daughters Kay Adams of Mulvane, Debra Adkins of Wichita Falls, Tx. and Phyllis Lindsay of Bulverde, Tx..; Step-children, William H. Riggins of Clearwater and Ruth Leeora Riggins Hartman of Tulsa, Ok. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial has been established with YMCA.
