Jasper Nall

OSKALOOSA - Jasper Roland Nall, 86, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Cedar Vale, died April 12, 1998, at Hickory Point Lodge in Oskaloosa.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Centralia, Okla., cemetery.

Contributions to the Jasper Nall Memorial Fund can be sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.

Nall was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Welch, Okla., to Seb and Sarah (Brown) Nall.

In 1938 he married Mary Piquard in Vinita, Okla. They later divorced.

In May 1961 he married Maxine Debo May in Miami, Okla. She died in April 1974.

Nall was a ranch hand employed by the Hatcher and Hossell ranches in Oklahoma. He also worked for the Lowery Ranch at Cedar Vale.

Hall had lived in the Lawrence area since moving there from Cedar Vale in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Barry Nall, Lawrence; five daughters, Phyllis Falconer and Rosemary Bryant, both of Eudora, Barbara Roper, Lawrence, Jane Deason, Tulsa, Okla., and Judy Copeland, Oskaloosa; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine Braden

ARKANSAS CITY - Maxine Braden, 78, of Arkansas City, formerly of Winfield, died April 11, 1998, at Medicalodge North.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. The Rev. Rick Hathaway will officiate.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Trinity Lutheran Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Braden was born May 5, 1919, in Arkansas City, to Mac L. and Susie (Heth) Hotchkin.

She married Orville A. Braden April 9, 1950, in Winfield. He died July 3, 1995.

A clerk at the former Feaster Grocery, she resided in Winfield most of her life.

Survivors include three sisters, Bobbie Riegel, Winfield, Betty Clodfelter, Manhattan, and Eunice Tupin, Phoenix; and several nieces and nephews.

Hedda Abraham

WICHITA - Services for Hedda Marie Abraham, 70, who died April 7, 1998, were held at 2:30 p.m. April 10 at St. George Orthodox Christian Church in Wichita. The Rev. Paul O'Callaghan officiated. Burial was in Old Mission Cemetery.

Casket bearers were N.J. and Robert Abraham and Jeff and Steve Jabara.

A memorial has been established with St. George Orthodox Christian Church.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Lucile Metcalf

DECATUR, Ill. - Helen Lucile Metcalf, 78, of Decatur, formerly of Cedar Vale, died April 11, 1998, in Fairhaven Christian Home in Decatur.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Association, SIU School of Medicine, Alzheimer's Center, P.O. Box 19230, Springfield, Ill. 62793-9230.

Metcalf was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Cedar Vale, to Clarence and Clara (Huntington) Steward.

On June 23, 1938, she married Gould Emery Metcalf in Erie. He died Jan. 13, 1977.

Metcalf worked as a secretary for the Decatur school district and for Dr. Bruce Carmean.

She was a member of the Sedan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Mason, Decatur, and Penny Farthing, Stone Mountain, Ga.; two sisters, Lela Brown, Garland, Texas, and Betty Stephens, Sedan; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Priest

SHADY POINT, Okla. - Charles W. Priest Jr., 66, of Shady Point, retired truck driver, died April 5, 1998, in the veterans hospital in Muskogee, Okla.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery in Winfield. The Veterans of Foreign Wars post of Arkansas City will provide military rites.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Priest, Washington, and Scott Priest, Westfield, Mass.; three daughters, Cynthia Priest, Feeding Hills, Mass., Lynn Jemilo, Blandford, Mass., and Kristen Hines, Westfield, Mass.; a sister, Charlotte Smith, Pearce, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren.

Priest's wife, Mildred L. Priest, formerly of Winfield, and a daughter, Robbin Priest, preceded him in death.

Donald Popchoke

OXFORD - Donald R. Popchoke, 65, of Oxford, died April 12, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington.

Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

A more complete obituary will be printed in Tuesday's Courier.

Richard Jarvis

Richard Jarvis, 83, of Route 5, Winfield, died April 14, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Steve Strother will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday. His family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 Wednesday evening.

Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Jarvis was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Winfield, to George and Jessie (Lynn) Jarvis. He was raised in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1932.

On Sept. 2, 1934, he married Jane Richardson in Kansas City, Mo.

During World War II, Jarvis served in the U.S Air Force in Guam. He also was a flight instructor with Winfield Flight Services for two years after his discharge.

Jarvis joined the staff of the First National Bank in 1948 and served as an officer and as chairman of the board until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Jarvis served as treasurer for the city of Winfield for 25 years and was also treasurer for William Newton Memorial Hospital, the Winfield Country Club and the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Jarvis, Winfield; two daughters, Roberta Johnston, Prairie Village, and Barbara Jarvis, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, John Jarvis, Winfield; a sister, Nancy Sullivan, Milwaukee, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Donald Popchoke

OXFORD - Donald D. Popchoke, 65, of Oxford, died April 12, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington. The Rev. Curtis Fike will officiate.

Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Popchoke was born June 7, 1932, in Altus, Okla., to Jessie Ray and Joyce (Deen) Popchoke. He was raised in the Wellington area and moved to Oxford in the early 1950s.

Popchoke worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita for 20 years. He then worked for Boeing Aircraft as a machinist from 1978 until retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Oxford First Baptist Church and Machinist Union Lodge 70.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Brooks, Oxford; three sons, Bobby Popchoke, Wichita, Randy Popchoke, Olathe, and Jay Popchoke, Oxford; a daughter, Sondra Hutchins, Winfield; two brothers, Bill Popchoke, Wichita, and Richard Popchoke, Dallas; a sister, Norma June Rickey, Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Dwayne Ratliff

ARKANSAS CITY - Dwayne A. Ratliff, 44, of Arkansas City, died April 13, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home in Fairfax, Okla. Pastor Wayne Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfax Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Ratliff was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Uravan, Colo., to George Arthur and Imogene (Miller) Ratliff. He was raised in the Ralston, Okla., area and graduated from Ralston High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from which he retired. After being discharged, he moved to Arkansas City in 1994.

Ratliff was a machine technician at KSQ Blowmolding at Strother Field.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Dwayne Ratliff and Thomas Austin Ratliff, and a daughter, Samantha Jean Ratliff, all of Addy, Wash.; his mother, Imogene Ratliff, and a brother, Raymond Ratliff, both of Arkansas City; six sisters, Quazetta Brown, Betty Kent, Delores Yount and Brenda Walker, all of Arkansas City, Peggy Meadows, Tulsa, Okla., and Myrtle Hundley, Fairfax, Okla.; and his grandmother, Mona McGee, also of Fairfax.
