Evelyne Foust-Johns

Evelyne Ann Foust-Johns, 57, formerly of Wichita and Augusta, died June 7, 1998, at the Winfield Good Samaritan Village.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. The Rev. Roger Guy will officiate. Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard is in charge of arrangements.

Foust-Johns was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Howard to Carl Cleveland and Evelyne Ruth (McCorkle) Cooley. She was raised in Howard and graduated from Howard High School.

On Nov. 10, 1957, she married Gary D. Foust at Miami, Okla., and they lived in Augusta. The marriage ended in 1973.

On Oct. 4, 1992, she married James A. Johns at Las Vegas, and they lived in Wichita. After this marriage ended in 1995, she moved to Winfield to be near her children.

Foust-Johns had been employed as an interior decorator at Lunger's of Augusta and had also been employed at Horton's Furniture in Wichita for several years.

She had attended Butler County Community College and Wichita Vocational School.

She is survived by her sons, Tim Foust and Dan Foust, and her daughter, Tonya Crank, all of Winfield; her brothers, Larry Cooley, Moline, and Johnny Cooley, Augusta; and four grandchildren.

Eugene Womacks

ATLANTA - E.L. "Eugene" Womacks, 90, a lifelong Atlanta resident, died June 7, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Masonic committal ceremonies will be conducted in Atlanta Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials have been established with the Atlanta First Responders and the Atlanta Christian Church. Contributions can be made through the church, Citizens Bank of Atlanta or the funeral home.

Womacks was born April 23, 1908, near Atlanta to Samuel Claude and Georgia Mae (Bright) Womacks. He attended Baltimore and Grand Center rural schools and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1927.

On July 5, 1927, he married Louise Kampschroeder at Miami, Okla. The couple lived and worked on the family farm throughout their nearly 71 years of marriage.

Womacks was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church, where he was elder emeritus, and a member of Clinton Lodge No. 233 at Burden for 55 years. He served on the board of directors of Timber Creek Watershed for 42 years; the Atlanta school board for 30 years and the Omnia Township Board for 25 years.

Womacks was formerly active as a 4-H leader and had served on boards of the Cowley County Farm Bureau, Kansas and Cowley County livestock associations and the Cowley County Hereford Association.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Womacks, and a son, Larry Womacks, both of Atlanta; two daughters, Carmen Harrison Shannon, Hominy, Okla., and Jeanine Thompson, Independence; two brothers, S.C. Womacks, Winfield, and Donald Womacks, El Dorado; a sister, Grace Lowe, Burden; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Iva Pudden

DEXTER - Iva Matilda Pudden, 95, formerly of Arkansas City, died June 6, 1998, at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Arkansas City, with Father Francis Cox officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Cremation has been effected.

A memorial has been established with Sacred Heart Catholic School. Contributions can be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Pudden was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Arkansas City to Wesley Orlo and Mary Anna (Rick) Wilson. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1921.

On Jan. 23, 1924, she married James Aaron Pudden in Arkansas City, and they lived in the Arkansas City area.

Pudden taught from 1922 to 1929 and 1944 to 1965 in Wright-Canyon, Martha Washington, Glenwood, Lone Star, Cameron, Benton and Rose Park country schools.

Pudden was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Sacred Heart Quilting Club, Glenwood Quilters, Enterprise Quilters and a retired teachers association. She served as a Red Cross hospital volunteer for 10 years.

Survivors include a son, Bill Pudden, Dexter; a daughter, Mary Moorman, Tonkawa, Okla.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Her husband and a son, James, preceded her in death.

Bevin Russell

Services for W. Bevin Russell were held at 10:30 a.m. June 6, 1998, at the First Assembly of God Church. The Revs. Ken Davidson and Rick Thornton officiated.

Music selections were "Safely Home" and "How Great Thou Art." Nedra Musgrove was organist, and Bwana Drennan was pianist.

Casket bearers were Jere Dean, Roland Hovey, Ivan Redford, Edward Scott, Jimmie Warren and Dave Musgrove.

Interment was in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with First Assembly of God Youth Activities, Winfield Community Theatre and Winfield Municipal Band.

John Bowman

WICHITA - John J. Bowman, 66, of Wichita, died June 8, 1998.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita.

A memorial has been established with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Bowman worked as a J.I. case welder before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Bowman; his sons, John Bowman Jr. and Jeff Bowman, both of Wichita, and Jerry Bowman, Hutchinson; a daughter, Janet Ramirez, Wichita; his mother, Dollie Bowman, and a brother, Jim Bowman, both of Winfield; two sisters, Phyllis Roth, Attica, and Shirley Booe, Winfield; and two grandchildren.

Christian Knapp

Services for Christian Erik Knapp, 4, of Dexter, who died June 4, 1998, were held at 11 a.m. June 9 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Davidson officiated, and Wendy King-Bersche sang "Tears From Heaven."

Casket bearers were Charley Bowman, Rick Heinzman, Robert Knottek, Brad Pierce, Aaron Pergosch, Chad Williams and Tyler Williams.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Cowley County Safe Homes Inc.

Esther McDade

Services for Esther E. McDade, 72, of Winfield, who died June 5, 1998, were held at 2:30 p.m. June 9 at Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Jerre Nolte and Vern Livengood officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Marsha Redmond sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Great Storm Is Over." Another selection was "On Eagles Wings."

Honorary casket bearers were Pat Biddle, Virgil Davis, E.C. Flower, Emery Josserand, Rick Stoll and Justin Waite.

Casket bearers were Bill Brooks, Art Carrillo, Phil Carrillo, Ray Johnson, Anthony McCullough and Mark Thomas.

An education trust fund has been established for McDade's grandson.

Eugene Womacks

Services for E.L. "Eugene" Womacks, 90, of Atlanta, who died June 7, 1998, were held at 10 a.m. June 11 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The Revs. Art Wilson and Kirk Womacks officiated. Burial was in Atlanta Cemetery.

Vocalist Jaci Thompson-Hall sang "Peace in the Valley." A poetry reading was presented by Bradley Harrison.

Honorary casket bearers were Harvey Blair, Joshua Crider, Darren Grow, Mark Hughes, J.B. Marshall, Ira Underwood and Wayne Williard.

Casket bearers were Gary Barnes, Phil Chenoweth, Warren Hahn, Norman Krug, Leroy Osborn and Eldon Whiteman.

Masonic ceremonies were presented by Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Clinton Lodge 233, Burden.

Memorials have been established with the Atlanta First Responders and Atlanta Christian Church.

Rita Tilton

WICHITA - Rita Tilton, 43, died June 10, 1998.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Mortuary Chapel in Wichita.

Tilton worked as an X-ray technician at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Paul and Thelma Tilton, Wichita; a brother, Gerald Tilton, Braman, Okla.; and two sisters, Deborah Evans and Polly Tilton, both of Wichita.

John Camp

DERBY - John Lee Roy Camp, 59, of Derby, died June 10, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita. The Rev. Dave Camp will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Camp was born June 11, 1938, in Wauneta. He was employed as an electrician and a former resident of Winfield.

Survivors include a son, Randy Camp,Wichita; four brothers, David Camp, Wichita, Jim Camp, Pittsburgh, Pa., Norman Camp, Topeka, and Michael Camp, Newkirk, Okla.; two sisters, Barbara Stilee, Independence, and Donna Hendrix, Wichita; and five grandchildren.
