Anna Lively

Anna Ruth Lively, 78, of 209 Massachusetts, Winfield, died June 16, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Davis will officiate.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with First Baptist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Lively was born Jan. 13, 1920, near Arkansas City, to Benjamin Irvin and Katherine (Scott) Lively. A longtime resident of Winfield, she graduated from Winfield High School in 1938. After graduation she worked as a waitress at several area restaurants.

Survivors include a brother, Lloyd Lively, Winfield; and two sisters, Mabel Huff, Winfield, and Grace Carlton, Wichita.

Vera Brothers

Services for Vera M. Brothers, 75, who died June 11, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. June 16 at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Quentin Bennett officiated. Burial was in Tisdale Cemetery.

Keith Anglemyer was the organist, and Eugene Shields sang "I Ask the Lord" and "Each Step I Take."

Kellie Brothers lighted the candles..

Casket bearers were Chris Biddle, Chad and Jamie Brothers, Steven Butler, Clint Hankins and David Lawson.

A memorial has been established with Tisdale United Methodist Church.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Edith Hittle

Services for Edith Marie Hittle, 95, were held at 10 a.m. June 18, 1998, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Ted Brown officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Louise Schuppener was the organist, and Dr. James Schuppener sang "In the Garden."

Honorary casket bearer was Nathan Loyd Hittle. Casket bearers were Chad and Craig Edwards, Max Deweese, Kane, Kye, Todd and Dennis Hittle and Brandon Wells.

A memorial has been established with Hackney Community Baptist Church.

Fuller Watt

Fuller P. Watt, 83, of 1502 Cherry, Winfield, died June 18, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Steve Souther will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and the Wichita Eye Bank. Contributions can be made through the church or funeral home.

Watt was born Sept. 23, 1914, in Winfield, to Elmer Parker and Mary Elizabeth (Fuller) Watt. He received his early education in Cambridge schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1932. Following graduation, he began work on the family farm near Cambridge.

On Sept. 21, 1940, he married Evelyn A. Hammer in Winfield. In 1941, they moved to San Mateo, Calif., where Watt was employed as a marine electrician on naval craft for Bethlehem Steel Corp. in San Francisco.

In 1946 they returned to the family farm at Cambridge. He worked as a farmer and rancher near Cambridge for 17 years and also served as a substitute rural mail carrier at Cambridge and Burden from 1935 to 1964.

He founded Watt Equipment Inc. in Winfield in 1963 and owned and operated the International Harvester farm equipment and truck franchise, later known as Case IH, until his retirement in 1987.

A member of First Presbyterian Church, Watt was also affiliated with the Winfield Elks Lodge, Winfield Chamber of Commerce and Winfield Country Club. He was formerly a member of the Cambridge school board, the Windsor Township Board and the Western Hardware & Implement Dealers Association. He also served for many years as an elder of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Watt, Winfield; two daughters, Linda Booth, New Strawn, and Kathy Johnson, Winfield; a brother, Randall Watt, Cambridge; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Linda Wedel

GOESSEL - Linda Wedel, 95, of Goessel, died June 17, 1998, at Hillsboro Salem Hospital in Hillsboro.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Goessel Mennonite Church. Burial will be in Goessel Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miller Mortuary in Goessel until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Bethesda Nursing Home in Goessel. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Wedel was born April 9, 1903, southeast of Goessel, to Jacob and Justina (Schmidt) Dalke.

She lived a life filled with music. Early on she often accompanied her father at the piano as he directed the choir at the Goessel Mennonite Church. Later she played piano as her husband, Martin Wedel, directed the choir.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include six sons, Harold Wedel, Overland Park, Arnold Wedel, Mulvane, Gilbert Wedel, Canton, Donald Wedel, Winfield, Robert Wedel, Ness City, and Rodney Wedel, Newton; two daughters, Goldie McMurray, Canton, and Irene Wiebe, Houston; a sister, Dora Reimer, Goessel; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Anna Lively

Lester Lehmann

Services for Lester W. Lehmann, 64, who died June 16, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. June 19 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Rick Hathaway officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Diana Glasgow was the organist, and Gayle Walker was the vocalist. Selections were "How Great Thou Art," "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace."

Honorary casket bearers were Vic McClung, Melvin Lawrence, Leonard Jacks, John Sweetland, Jesse Larimore, Wayne Ramsey and Paul Parsons.

Casket bearers were Larry, Maurice and Louis Hoover, John Glasgow, Newton Richardson and Jim McClung.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.

E. Marie Roper

E. Marie Roper, 87, of Cumbernauld Village, Winfield, died June 19, 1998, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, south of Grenola.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

A memorial has been established with Central Baptist Church. Contributions can be made through either the church or the funeral home.

Roper was born April 6, 1911, near Grenola, to Ed and Dora (Smith) Lambert. She received her early education in Grenola rural schools and attended Grenola High School.

On Oct. 25, 1930, she married Homer Roper in Winfield. The Ropers lived and worked on their Grenola farm until moving to a farm near Burden, where they lived for 10 years. They moved to Winfield in 1962.

She was employed as a psychiatric aide at Winfield State Hospital until her retirement in 1972. She lived in McPherson in the early 1990s, then moved to Cumbernauld Village in February 1998.

Her husband; daughter Frances Roper; and an infant daughter preceded her in death.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Gary Roper, of McPherson; daughter, June Roper of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Morris

ARKANSAS CITY - Mary R. Morris, 67, of Arkansas City, died June 18, 1998, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The Rev. William O. Reed Jr., the Rev. Jessie Reed and Elder James Watson Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Foster Grandparent Program and the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Morris was born March 16, 1931, in Guthrie, Okla., to John and Altheria (Lewis) Morris.

On Oct. 23, 1948, she married Louis Morris Sr. in Arkansas City. They lived in Arkansas City. Morris worked as a nurses' aide and medical aid at Winfield State Hospital. She also worked in several area nursing homes and served as a foster grandparent at the Frances Willard Elementary School.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and Past Worthy Matron and 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 19.

Survivors include two sons, Louis E. Morris of Antioch, Tenn., and Robert H. Morris of Wichita; two sisters, Annie Fulcher of Arkansas City and Doreatha Deloach of Aurora, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

Lester Isom

DOUGLASS - Lester Eugene Isom, 80, of Douglass, retired Cessna clerk, died June 19, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Pastor Cliff Muci will officiate. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.

Isom was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Bellaire, to Carl and Estella (Trumble) Isom. On Nov. 25, 1936, he married Hazel Elliott in Smith Center.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Isom, and a daughter, Kiley Cochran, both of Douglass; a sister, Marjorie Harriman, Flint, Mich.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
