David Case

David W. Case, 91, of 323 McCabe, Winfield, died June 19, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Masonic burial ceremonies will be conducted in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive visitors at the home of Case's granddaughter, Tracy LeValley, 812 E. Eighth, Winfield.

A memorial has been established with First United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through the church or funeral home.

Case was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Kansas City, Kan., to Thomas Latham and Henriette Caroline (Grube) Case. The family moved to Oklahoma when he was three, and in 1915 they moved to a homestead at Baca County, Colo. Case attended Colorado schools and later earned his general education degree through the American Correspondence School. He also attended night classes at Ponca City Business College.

The family returned to Oklahoma, and Case began working in oil fields for Prairie Oil & Gas Co. in the Blackwell, Okla., area.

On Dec. 19, 1933, he married Eva Merle Wolffrum at Three Sands, Okla. In September 1939 the Cases moved to Winfield where they resided for nearly 60 years.

In 1972 Case retired as a pumper for Atlantic Richfield Oil Co., following 47 years of service without a single day of sick leave.

Mrs. Case died May 8, 1997.

A member of the First United Methodist Church, Case was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Tonkawa, Okla.

Survivors include his daughters, Eva Lynn Samms, Winfield, and Mary Jane Grant, Ridgecrest, Calif.; an adopted daughter, Stella Belle (Dale) Bugay, Lakewood, Colo.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Hadden

SOUTH HAVEN - Kenneth J. Hadden, 54, of South Haven, died June 20, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven. Pastor Tony Horsley will officiate.

A more complete obituary will be printed in Tuesday's Courier.

Hawks Funeral Hospital is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert Neal

WICHITA - Herbert D. Neal, 89, of Wichita, died June 20, 1998, at Wesley Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kansas Masonic Home Chapel, 401 S. Seneca, Wichita. The Rev. Bill Tomlin will officiate. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Caldwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Masonic Home. Contributions can be made through Hawks Funeral Home of Arkansas City.

Neal was born Jan. 18, 1909, in Caldwell, to John Thomas and Cora Delight (Peck) Neal. He was raised and educated in the Caldwell area.

On Feb. 24, 1932, he married Clara Fern Wirtz in Wellington. They lived in Caldwell, then moved to a farm near Arkansas City in 1946 and farmed there until 1962.

On Jan. 3, 1964, he married Clara Lou Aldridge Jones in Carter, Okla. They moved to Farmington, N.M., then to Pampa, Texas. In 1968 they moved to Oklahoma City where they operated Pauline's Sportswear and franchised other Pauline's Sportswear stores in Oklahoma.

Neal moved to the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita in July 1995. His wife died Aug. 14, 1996.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Caldwell Lodge 203, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Caldwell Order of Eastern Star 382 and Scottish Rite Consistory of Guthrie, Okla. He was a former member of the India Temple Shrine in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth E. Neal, Gillette, Wyo., Roger Jones, Elk City, Okla., Orville Jones, Midwest City, Okla., and Terry Jones, Indianapolis; two daughters, Janice M. Bobek, Arkansas City, and Clarene Hood, Midwest City, Okla.; a brother, Lewis Neal, Caldwell; a sister, Maxine McCray, Wakita, Okla.; 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mattie McFarland

HOWARD - Mattie Estel McFarland, 89, longtime resident of Howard, died June 21, 1998, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Rev. Marty Dewitt will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association.

McFarland was born Nov. 1, 1908, in Lebanon, Mo., to William Charles and Lula Imogene (Edwards) Riller. At an early age, she moved with her family to Howard, where she graduated from Howard High School in 1927.

On May 18, 1927, she married Earl Joseph McFarland in Sedan. A homemaker, she was an accomplished seamstress and cook.

McFarland was active in the First Baptist Church of Howard and was involved in various committees, classes and the Missionary Society.

Survivors include her husband, Earl McFarland, Howard; a daughter, Edna Ruth Chapman, Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Wilma Finley, Wichita; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Floe Greer

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Floe (Blue) Greer, 95, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Winfield and Wichita, died June 18, 1998.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven. Downing & Lahey Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Greer was born March 26, 1903, in South Haven to John Q. and Etta S. Blue. She graduated from Arkansas City High School and in 1922 married Luther Fite. They lived in Oklahoma and northern Texas.

After they divorced, she and her son moved to Winfield in 1930. She was first a manager and pianist in a music store and later worked as a legal secretary.

In 1939 she married E. Floyd Greer, the chief of police of Winfield. During World War II, they lived in Wichita. Following the war, they moved to Boulder, Colo., where they operated a newsstand. In 1947 they moved to Encinitas, Calif., where they operated an antique shop. They sold the business and retired in 1956.

Her husband died in 1978. Greer remained in California until moving to Pittsburgh in 1984.

As a pianist and organist she played frequently in both amateur and semi-professional appearances. Her last entertaining was done for the residents of St. Barnabas Retirement Village in Pittsburgh.

Survivors include a son, Wade L. Fite, Pittsburgh; a stepson, Jack N. Greer, Hot Springs, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Peggy Brown, Wichita; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Fuller Watt

Services for Fuller Parker Watt, 83, who died June 18, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. June 22 at Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Steve Souther and Eugene Blake officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Organist was Louise Schuppener, and violinists were Laura and Mark Schuppener. Violin selections were "Meditation from Thais" by Massenet and "Canon" by Pachelbel.

Honorary casket bearers were Oran and Richard Booth, Wayne Cherveny, Duane Chrisler, George "Red" Faler, Wilbur Laubhan, Bob Lundy, Kenneth Mundinger, Marion "Bob" Riggs, Virgil "Scottie" Scott, Don "Sparky" Slayden, Clay J. Smith, Dean Sorrell and Dr. Richard Warren.

Casket bearers were Brian Booth, Erik and Paige Johnson, Stacey Oniyide, Steve Topper and Neil Watt.

Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and the Wichita Eye Bank.

Kenneth Hadden

SOUTH HAVEN - Kenneth J. Hadden, 54, lifelong resident of South Haven, died June 20, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven. Pastor Tony Horsley will officiate.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington until 8 tonight.

Hadden was born March 12, 1944, on a farm north of Drury, to Leon and Rosie (Daniels) Hadden. He attended South Haven schools and started working on farms at an early age.

While in his late teens he began farming the land he later purchased from his father-in-law. He married Judy Buresch on June 5, 1964, in South Haven.

For many years Hadden worked in the oil industry and also had a backhoe and trenching business.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Hadden, and a son, Clint Hadden, both of South Haven; three daughters, Pamela Gregorcyk, Winfield, Brenda Parks-Harris, South Haven, and Jennifer Hadden, Wellington; two brothers, Ail Daniel and Roy Hadden, addresses not given; four sisters, Nellie Davis, Bellflower, Calif., Edna Allen, Lahoma, Okla., Grace Kraus, Manahawkin, N.J., and Julia Brown, Midwest City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Nila Holroyd

HEWINS - Nila Maria Holroyd, 77, of Hewins, died June 22, 1998, at Cedar Vale Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ozro Falls Cemetery. The Rev. Dois Nix will officiate. Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Intermediate Care Facility of Cedar Vale Hospital.

Holroyd was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Cedar Vale, to Ralph and Mary (Randel) Foster. On Nov. 1, 1938, she married Larman Holroyd in Rogers, Ark.

Holroyd was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Larmon Holroyd, Hewins; a son, Dale Holroyd, Independence; a daughter, Jane Tedder, Skiatook, Okla.; a brother, Bill Foster, Willard, Mo.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dean Jenkins

Robert W. "Dean" Jenkins, 80, of 119 N. Massachusetts, Winfield, died June 22, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Military burial ceremonies will be held in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials have been established with Millington Street Baptist Church and American Legion Post 10. Contributions can be made through the church, Legion post or funeral home.

Jenkins was born Jan. 3, 1918, on a farm near Bronaugh, Mo., to Harry and Belle (Overton) Jenkins. Raised and educated in Missouri, he graduated from Nevada (Mo.) High School in 1937.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic.

On Aug. 7, 1942, he married Irma Boatright in San Antonio, Texas. Following his discharge from the service, the couple returned to Missouri where he worked as a truck driver for the Missouri Farm Association.

In 1953 the Jenkins family moved to Winfield, and he began employment with the Kellogg Farmers Cooperative west of Winfield. He retired in 1984 following 31 years of service as a feed mill operator.

A Winfield resident for over 45 years, he was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church and American Legion Post 10.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Jenkins, Winfield; three sons, Larry Jenkins, Oxford, Douglas Jenkins, Brandon, England, and Norman Jenkins, Everton, Ark.; three daughters, Janice Avera, Morrison, Colo., Marcia Jenkins, Winfield, and Rhonda Knox, Rowlett, Texas; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
