Raymond Page

WICHITA - Raymond F. Page, 84, of Wichita, died June 22, 1998.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. Cochran Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2258 Marigold, Wichita, KS 67204; Hospice Inc., P.O. Box 3267, Wichita, KS 67201-9705, and Kansas Children's Service League, 1365 N. Custer, Wichita, KS 67204.

Page was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Lincoln, to Fred C. and Reva (Shaver) Page. He graduated from Leon High School and Southwestern College.

He married Harriett Kelley on June 11, 1939, in Winfield. They made their first home in Wichita.

Page worked in the credit department of Cudahy Packing Co. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Marines and after three years of duty returned to Wichita to go into the commercial insurance business. He retired as a partner in Alexander & Alexander Inc., general and commercial insurance company, in 1975.

He and his wife had made their home in Twin Lakes Apartments for the last 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Harriett K. Page, Wichita; a son, Joseph F. Page, Rose Hill; a daughter, Janet K. Santoscoy, Wichita; a brother, Earl C. Page, Longview, Wash.; two sisters, Fern Butts, Des Moines, Wash., and Nadine Adams, Potwin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marie Roper

Services for E. Marie Roper, 87, who died June 19, 1998, were held in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. June 23. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated.

Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, southeast of Grenola. The Rev. Wallace Wartick presided at the burial.

Special vocal music included "Amazing Grace" and "The Love of God."

Honorary casket bearers were Vic Hollister, Daniel Miller, Eldon Sievley, Joe Walker and Darrell Wartick.

Casket bearers were Lynn Bogue, Jim Gilmore, Kyle Huff, Craig and Jeff Miller and Harold Wilson.

A memorial has been established with Central Baptist Church.

Anna Belle Wallace

SEDAN - Anna Belle Wallace, 72, of Sedan, died June 20, 1998, in Cedar Vale Community Hospital.

Services were held at 10 a.m. June 24 in Graves-Baird Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Dois Nix officiated.

A memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Wallace was born July 1, 1925, in Bluejacket, Okla., to Stanley Eugene and Mida (Rhoten) Walker.

On April 19, 1940, she married Ray Eugene Wallace at Sedan. He died May 21, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Leon E. Wallace, Giddings, Texas, and Robert R. Wallace, Pittsburg; two sisters, Virginia Schmidt and Delores Sprague, both of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Nila Holroyd

HEWINS - Nila Marie Holroyd, 77, of Hewins, died June 22, 1998, at the Cedar Vale hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ozro Falls Cemetery. The Rev. Dois Nix will officiate. Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Intermediate Care Facility of Cedar Vale Community Hospital.

Holroyd was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Cedar Vale, to Ralph and Mary (Randel) Foster. On Nov. 1, 1938, she married Larman Holroyd in Rogers, Ark.

Holroyd was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Larman Holroyd, Hewins; a son, Dale Holroyd, Independence; a daughter, Jane Tedder, Skiatook, Okla.; a brother, Bill Foster, Willard, Mo.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marvel Abel

UDALL - Services for Marvel Pike Abel, 93, who died June 15, 1998, were held at 10 a.m. June 20 at the First United Methodist Church of Udall. The Rev. John Branson officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Cora Mettling was the organist, and Ila Thompson was the vocalist. Selections were "Now I Belong to Jesus," "Surely the Presence of the Lord Is in This Place" and "How Great Thou Art."

Honorary casket bearers were Edison Cooley, Van Abel and John Christopher Morton. Casket bearers were Mark, Thomas, Don and Oscar Morton, Gary Schafer and Lloyd Kline.

Memorials have been established with St. Agnes Hospital Hospice and Udall United Methodist Church.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home of Winfield was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Brooks

NEWTON - The Rev. Carl Brooks Jr., 71, retired Baptist minister and missionary, died June 23, 1998.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church in Wichita.

Friends may call at Hillside Funeral Home East from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Brooks, Newton; three daughters, Barbara Treasor, Wichita, Pam York, Michigan, and Gail Redford, Winfield; four stepdaughters, Joyce Blunck, Sedgwick, Judy Walker, Harding, Neb., Marcia Boone, Wichita, and Bonnie Austin, Spokane, Wash.; five brothers, George Brooks, Wenatchee, Wash., Herb Brooks, Pomona, Leonard Brooks, Tacoma, Wash., Alvin Brooks, Gouvernor, N.Y., and Don Brooks, Quenemo; a sister, Shirley Miller, Wenatchee, Wash.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Max Waldschmidt

ARKANSAS CITY - Max Donald Waldschmidt, 80, of Arkansas City, died June 24, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. The Rev. Rick Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Waldschmidt was born June 28, 1917, in Arkansas City, to Henry and Ercell (Graham) Waldschmidt. He attended Vinton schools and graduated from the eighth grade. As a young man, he helped his father farm and graded roads for Silverdale Township.

On June 11, 1939, he married Erma Christner. They farmed in Cowley County except for three and a half years spent on a farm in Montgomery County. Waldschmidt purchased his grandfather's home place, where he and his family lived until 1978 when they sold the farm and moved to Arkansas City. There Waldschmidt purchased several houses which he remodeled and rented.

In 1977 he joined Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church and helped build the new part of the church.

In 1983 he purchased 20 acres south of town where the family lived for 10 years and joined the IXL church. After moving back to Arkansas City in 1993, he rejoined Hillcrest.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Waldschmidt, Arkansas City; a son, Donald Waldschmidt, rural Dexter; a daughter, Sharon Drake, Winfield; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his caregivers, Pat Jackson and family and Glenda Brantley and family.

A daughter, Sheryl A. Waggoner, died in 1992.

David Case

Services for David William Case, 91, who died June 19, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. June 24 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated.

Members of Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, led by lecturer Wayne Rush, conducted Masonic ceremonies in Oxford Cemetery.

Music included Eileen Cummings singing "In the Garden" and tapes of Vince Gill singing "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and Jerome Bailey and the Walnut Valley Youth Choir singing "Amazing Grace." Carolyn Eastman was the organist.

Honorary casket bearer was Ken Grant. Casket bearers were Steve Bugay, Joe Cummings, Larry and Ron Samms, R.V. Wagnor and Walt and Wilbur Wolffrum.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church.

William White

GASSVILLE, Ark. - William A. White, 91, of Gassville, died June 18, 1998, at Gassville Nursing Center.

Services were held at 2 p.m. June 20 at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church. The Rev. Harold Barnett officiated. Burial was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.

Honorary casket bearers were White's grandsons. Casket bearers were Gary Cranor and Clifton, Jake, Stanley, Ronnie and Chris White.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

White was born Feb. 10, 1907, at Whiteville, Ark., to Henry Marshall and Martha (Rhodes) White. On Aug. 5, 1938, he married Faye Smith at Monkey Run, Ark.

White worked for Cessna Aircraft and was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge of Cotter and Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye White, Gassville; five sons, Clifton White, Phoenix, Jake White, Clear Lake, Stanley White, Wichita, Ronnie White, Emporia, and Chris White, Gassville; three daughters, Sue Holland, Wichita, Shirley Setzkorn, Arkansas City, and Connie Chisum, Ponca City, Okla.; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Grover Ball

GRENOLA - Grover Jefferson Ball, 84, retired truck driver and roofer, of Grenola, died June 26, 1998, at Howard Twilight Manor in Howard.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Cemetery at Grenola. Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Nina R. Ball, Grenola; two sons, Charles Ball, Wilson, and Grover Ball Jr., Grenola; a daughter, Christine Ball Roberts, Howard; and a brother, Dewey Ball, Great Bend.

Norma Weiner

HENDERSON, Nev. - Norma (Galleano) Weiner, 67, of Henderson, died June 11, 1998, at her home.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held in San Diego at the home of her son.

Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities.

Weiner was born Feb. 28, 1931, in San Diego, to Barney and Loretta Galleano. In 1992 she married Jack Weiner in Las Vegas.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Weiner, Henderson; a son, Wyatt Jay Swaim, San Diego; and three daughters, Aritha Paris, Oxford, Jacqueline McCall, Tulsa, Okla., and Marilyn Igoe, San Diego.
