Ruth Wood

GUYMON, Okla. - E. Ruth Wood, 82, longtime Guymon resident, died Sept. 20, 1998, at her home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Don Chase will officiate. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church Organ Fund. Contributions can be made through Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

Wood was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Sedan, to George W. and Lucy A. (Williams) Warmbrodt.

On April 19, 1935, she married Harold O. Wood in Sedan. They moved to Guymon in 1948.

Wood was a social worker for the Department of Human Services for many years and had more recently worked at Henson-Novak Funeral Home. The Rev. Wood died in November 1992.

A homemaker, Wood was a member of the First Christian Church and Order of Eastern Star Lodge 419 in Guymon.

Survivors include a son, Harold O. "Bud" Wood Jr., and a daughter, Phyllis Claycomb, both of Guymon; a brother, Ralph Warmbrodt, Arkansas City; a sister, Zeda Brooks, Sedan; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alice Erwin

COFFEYVILLE - Alice Carman Erwin, 80, of Coffeyville, died Sept. 19, 1998, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel. Burial was in Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville.

Memorials have been established with the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and Emmanuel Chapel.

Erwin was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Mansfield, Ark., to Edwin Otis and Maude May (Wilson) Apple. She lived in Mansfield before moving with her family to Van Buren, Ark. After graduating from Van Buren High School in 1936, she worked for Tommie Ham Co. for three years.

On May 25, 1940, she married Johnie B. Erwin in Van Buren. They moved to Coffeyville in 1943, and she worked as a housekeeper for R.M. Seaton from 1951 to 1986.

She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, the women's auxiliary at that church and Emmanuel Chapel of South Coffeyville. She was also a member of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Johnie Erwin, Coffeyville; a son, Leo Erwin, Oswego; two sisters, Nellie Healey and Daliah Reynolds, both of Van Buren; a granddaughter, six stepgrandchildren, 14 stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandsons.

A son, Herman Erwin, died in 1994.

Bill Hedges

PONCA CITY, Okla. - W.M. "Bill" Hedges, 80, longtime Ponca City resident, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 20, 1998, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 in Trout Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jack Adams officiated.

Memorials contributions can be made to the Ponca City Humane Society, P.O. Box 2311, Ponca City, OK 74602.

Hedges was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Winfield, to Frank and Nora (Barker) Hedges. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1935.

On May 25, 1937, he married Frankie Mae Mathews in Newkirk, Okla. She died June 30, 1972.

Hedges enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and served in the United States during World War II.

The couple lived in various places before moving to Ponca City in 1969. Hedges managed the Quovadis Club in Ponca City for a few years, then worked for the Corps of Engineers at Kaw Lake until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ardmore, Okla., the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Becki Barksdale, Ponca City, and Elaine Boody, Terrebonne, Ore.; a sister, Dorothy Piper, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.L

Cheryl Sivils

GEUDA SPRINGS - Cheryl Annette (Chitwood) Sivils, 48, of Geuda Springs, died Sept. 24, 1998, in Geuda Springs.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Pastor David Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in Geuda Springs Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Sivils was born Nov. 5, 1949, in Winfield, to Darwin Ray and Wilsie Lois (Beals) Chitwood. She graduated from Oxford High School and Wichita Business College. During her senior year in high school, she was Miss Geuda Springs.

Sivils had worked for Rodeo Meats, Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

A member of Geuda Springs Community Church, she had also been a Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include two sons, Jamie Ray Widener and Tyson Jay Sivils, her mother, Wilsie Chitwood, and a sister, Paula Hills, all of Geuda Springs; two brothers, Duane Chitwood, Ponca City, Okla., and David Chitwood, Geuda Springs; and her grandmother, Opal Katzenmeier, Harbor Springs, Mo.

Gladys Kill

MOLINE - Gladys Lamoyne Kill, 95, longtime Moline resident, died Sept. 25, 1998, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline.

A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Sept. 27, and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Sept. 28, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline. The Rev. Edward J. Steinberger officiated, and Wanda Mills was the organist. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Jerry Kill was an honorary casket bearer. Casket bearers were Joe Hallowell and Bob, Frank, John, Steve and Terry Kill.

A memorial has been established with St. Mary's Altar Society. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Gladys Kill was born Oct. 7, 1902, at Corum, Mo., to Stephen and Ella (Lowe) Adams. At an early age, she moved with her family to Versailles, Mo., where she attended school. After her mother's death in 1919, she and her father moved to Wichita where she graduated as a registered nurse from St. Francis School of Nursing.

On Jan. 24, 1928, she married Frank J. Kill in Moline. They lived in the Elk Falls community where she was a homemaker. Her husband died in 1974.

Kill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Survivors include four sons, John Kill, Grenola, Robert Kill, Moline, Donald Kill, Haysville, and James Kill, Cheney; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Grace Sellers

HESSTON - Grace A. Sellers, 95, of Hesston, retired associate professor of music at Southwestern College, died Sept. 26, 1998, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Schowalter Villa Chapel. The Rev. Ronald Rich and Dr. Howard Yoder will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Lyons Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miller Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Grace Sellers Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at Southwestern College.

Sellers was born Feb. 14, 1903, in Galt, to James A. and Grace Carol (Bain) Sellers. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1920 and taught school. In 1924 she moved with her mother to Winfield where she entered Southwestern College and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1927. She taught in the fine arts department of the college and received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music in 1939. In 1947 she received her master's degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Sellers and her mother operated a boarding house for students on Third Avenue for many years.

Sellers was a professional accompanist and played semi-professionally for several years on a piano-duo team. She was the organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield for over 30 years. She served two terms as president of the Wesleyan Services Guild and was chairperson of the Memorial Committee and the Caring Committee. After moving to Hesston in 1978, she became a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Alice R. Sellers, Enid, Okla.; a nephew, James F. Sellers, Oklahoma City; and two nieces, Alyce Cornyn-Selby, Portland, Ore.; and Joan Sellers, Price, Utah.

Josephine Wilkinson

SEDAN - Josephine Patty Wilkinson, 86, died Sept. 27, 1998, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ozro Cemetery at Cedar Vale.

Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial has been established with Pleasant Valley Manor. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Wilkinson was born June 17, 1912, in Linden, Iowa, to Reno and Sarah Patty.

She taught in country schools for several years before marrying Omer Wilkinson on May 5, 1934, in Linden, Iowa. He died May 26, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Maurice Wilkinson, Parker, Colo.; a daughter, Mary Jo Fairless, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Cora Hueth and Mary McCarty, both of Derby; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Floyd McCall

SEDAN - Floyd Lee McCall, 85, died Sept. 25, 1998, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

Services will be held at 2. p.m. Tuesday at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Pleasant Valley Manor. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

McCall was born March 2, 1913, north of Cedar Vale, to Frank and Lettie (White) McCall.

On June 18, 1933, he married Ethel Patteson in Cedar Vale. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd Melvin McCall, Cedar Vale, and Bill McCall, El Reno, Okla.; two grandchildren, one stepgrandchild and one great-grandchild.

Jesse McKibben

GARNETT - Jesse Hugh McKibben, 81, of the Garnett and Blue Mound areas, died Sept. 28, 1998, at Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Coffel-Schneider-Fairchild Chapel in Mound City. Burial will be in Mapleton Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Anderson County Hospice.

McKibben was born July 3, 1917, in Cambridge, to Charlie and Ethel (Brown) McKibben. On Sept. 16, 1937, he married Mary Jane Seley in Newkirk, Okla.

Before retiring, McKibben was employed by the Winfield Fire Department and also farmed. He was a member of the RLDS Church in Mapleton.

His wife died March 11, 1996. A son, Clinton McKibben, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd McKibben, Wilmington, Ill., and Murl "Butch" McKibben, Mapleton; two daughters, Ginny Brown, Garnett, and Phylis Kelley, Winfield; four sisters, Daisy Coy and Lois Hair, both of Pryor, Okla., Helen Case, Arkansas City, and Betty Kelley, Winfield; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
