Myrl Dobbs

BURDEN - Services for Myrl Dobbs were held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 12, 1998, at the Burden First Baptist Church. The Revs. Art Hays and Dee Wolf officiated, Wanda Mackey was the organist and Shana Boyd was the vocalist.

Honorary casket bearers were Jim Pierce, Ron Fox and Dave Wolf. Casket bearers were Ed Morgan, Allen Sutton, Scott and Darrell Moore and Ed and Myrl Dobbs.

Interment was in the city cemetery at Stilwell, Okla., under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home.

Irene Vore

PARSONS - Irene J. Vore, 83, of Parsons, formerly of Cedar Vale, died Oct. 12, 1998, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Parsons, and at 3 p.m. in Maple City Cemetery. The Rev. Lurena Dunn will officiate. Carson-Wall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the church.

Vore was born July 26, 1915, near Cedar Vale, to Charles and Pearl (Pettigrew) Gilkey.

On Aug. 1, 1942, she married Earl V. Vore in Wichita. They lived in Cedar Vale and Wichita before moving to Parsons in 1967.

Vore was a seamstress and made wedding dresses and other clothing for people for many years. She also did alterations for area clothing stores.

Vore was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church quilting group.

Her husband died Oct. 21, 1989.

Survivors include three sons, Earl Vore Jr., Parsons, Bill Vore, Woodlands, Texas, and Roy Vore, Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Charles Gilkey, Kansas City, Kan., and Wilson Gilkey, Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister, Evelyn Toothaker, Scottsboro, Ala.; seven grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Rudy Miller

CLEARWATER - Rudy A. Miller, 88, of Clearwater, died Oct. 14, 1998, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Webb Mortuary Chapel in Clearwater. Burial will be in Clearwater Cemetery.

Miller was born Jan. 16, 1910, in Jarrell, Texas, to Otto Frank and Minnie Wilemina Miller.

Survivors include a son, Kerry Miller, Burden; two sisters, Minnie Meyer, Dallas, and Anna Louise Graeter, Temple, Texas; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Emma Morgan

ARKANSAS CITY - Emma D. Morgan, 82, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 15, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. H. Dean LaVelle will officiate.

A memorial has been established with Bible Christian Church of Arkansas City.

Morgan was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Winfield, to David and Sadie (Roberts) Hoyle. She attended Winfield schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1933.

She then taught at Spring Creek and other rural schools in eastern Cowley County.

On April 17, 1937, she married Frank E. Morgan at Perry, Okla. They resided in various cities, and she taught school in Illinois, Indiana and Kansas. After moving to Arkansas City in 1956, she taught in elementary schools there until retiring in 1980. She received the Master Teacher award in 1980.

Morgan completed a degree in education at Southwestern College in 1962.

She was a member of the Bible Christian Church, National Education Association, Arkansas City Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Morgan, Arkansas City; a son, Lloyd Morgan, Parsons; three daughters, Alice Miles, Wichita, Patricia McCutcheon, Winfield, and Shirley Blankenship, Udall; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Guy Gordon

WICHITA - Guy E. Gordon, 78, died Oct. 14, 1998, in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. Broadway Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Gordon was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Cabool, Mo., to William and Ida Gordon. In 1948 he married Norma L. Davis.

He was a finish mechanic at Boeing before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Gordon, and a stepson, Larry Gray, both of Wichita; two sisters, Bonnie Mills, Carthage, Mo., and Ruth Ferguson, Rockford, Ill.; a half-brother, Richard Metts, Ofallon, Mo.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Faye Quinn

DEXTER - Faye Irene Quinn, 94, died Oct. 15, 1998, at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service, Winfield, and 2:30 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation.

Quinn was born Feb. 9, 1904, in the Timber Creek community east of Atlanta, to William Pitt and Christine (Wingert) Carver. She attended Atlanta and Burden area schools.

She married S.H. Wilson, and they resided in Winfield. After 32 years of marriage, they were divorced.

She was employed by Hinkles Department Store in Wichita.

After marrying James Quinn, they lived in Joplin, Mo., and Girard. He died in 1970.

Quinn lived in Independence before moving to Atlanta. She had resided at Grouse Valley Manor since 1992.

Survivors include two sisters, Blanche Lewis and Gladys Gordon, both of Wichita; and seven nieces and nephews, including Christine Whiteman, Atlanta.

Lloyd Hubbard

Lloyd B. Hubbard, 67, of 2800 E. 12th, Winfield, died Oct. 16, 1998, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.

Hubbard was born July 1, 1931, at Frederick to Orlin James and Bertha Edith (McNett) Hubbard. He attended Mitchell, Kan., schools and graduated in 1949 from Satanta High School.

On Oct. 22, 1949, he married Eunice Blakesley. They were later divorced.

Hubbard was employed in pipeline maintenance for Cities Service Gas Co. and stationed in various Kansas locations. He moved to Winfield from Ulysses in 1971 and retired in 1987, following 37 years with Cities Service.

He was a member of the International Union of Engineers.

Survivors include his son, Randall Kent Hubbard of Winfield; three daughters, Ronda Louise Widener of Liberal, DeEtta Orlene Kooken of Ulysses and Katherine Lorea Hubbard of Dallas; two brothers, James Eugene Hubbard of Tucson, Ariz., and Galyn Laverne Hubbard of Lafayette, La.; a sister, Beulah Faye Cox of Patterson, La.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elven Mitchell

HOWARD - James Elven Mitchell, 84, of Howard, died Oct. 18, 1998, in Howard.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home with burial in Grace Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Chuck Evans will officiate.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc., 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.

Mitchell was born Feb. 10, 1914, near Fall River, to Trevor and Rosa (McCollum) Mitchell. After attending Rock Ridge rural school, he worked on the family farm.

On Feb. 14, 1933, he married Margie Irene Campbell at Fredonia, and they farmed near Fall River until moving to Severy in 1935.

Mitchell helped operate an automobile service garage, then began his career in the bulk oil business. In 1946 the family moved to Howard, where he founded Mitchell Oil Co. He retired in 1968.

The Mitchells then lived in Independence for many years before returning to Howard recently.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Mitchell, Howard; two sons, Nolan Mitchell, Howard, and Ray Mitchell, Pittsburg; a brother, Sidney Mitchell, Eureka; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Kerr

Services for Dr. Charles D. Kerr were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 16, 1998, at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Steve Souther officiated, and Diane Massey presented family memories.

Kent Miller sang "Hymn of Promise," and the congregation sang "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go." Keith Anglemyer was the organist, and Robbie Banks was the pianist.

Interment was in Highland Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post. 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544.

Casket bearers were Nathan Halbert, Aaron Johnson, Hoyt, Karl and Wiley Kerr and Jimmie Topper.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd Hubbard

Services for Lloyd Bentle Hubbard, 67, who died Oct. 16, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Keith officiated.

Special music included "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art."

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
