June Russell

UDALL - June Marie Russell, 76, homemaker, of Udall, died Nov. 4, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight and until service time on Friday.

Russell was born June 2, 1922, on a farm near Blackwell, Okla., to Everett Ralph and Alma Marie (Roderick) Miller. She was educated in Blackwell and Tonkawa schools.

On June 6, 1941, she married Lee Owen Russell at Cassville, Mo. The couple lived at Rogers, Ark., before moving to Wichita in 1950. They had lived in Udall since 1971. Her husband died Aug. 28, 1998.

Russell was baptized at First Assembly of God Church in Haysville in 1977.

Survivors include six sons, Danny Russell, South Carolina, Lee Roy Russell, Bruce Russell and Sammy Russell, all of Udall, Eric Russell, Wichita, and Chris Russell, Arkansas City; three daughters, Carol Glover and Gail Petersen, both of Haysville, and Sondra Russell, Wichita; four brothers, Harold Miller, Redlands, Calif., John Miller, Haysville, and Orville Miller and Edward Miller, both of Grove, Okla.; a sister, Virginia Denton, Sun City West, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Alma Rose Russell, preceded her in death.

Jessie Foote

EL DORADO - Jessie Irene Foote, 87, of El Dorado, died Nov. 2, 1998, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Udall Cemetery. Pastor John Branson will officiate. Friends may call at Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with First Responders of Udall.

Foote was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Iola. She was a former cook with Udall USD 463.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Hawks, Valley Center, and Marilyn Lofton, El Dorado; a brother, Howard Stevenson, Pryor, Okla.; four sisters, Nadine Kennedy, Almeda, Calif., Doris Graft, Parsons, Imagene Greer, Chanute, and Mary Louanis, Winchester, Mass.; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mary Long

ARKANSAS CITY - Mary R. Long, 59, homemaker, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 3, 1998, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Forest Hill Cemetery at Ashton.

Friends may call at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Long was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Rogers, Ark., to Ernest D. and Ruth (McClaskey) Voightlander. In 1941 she moved with her parents to Arkansas City where she attended school.

On Oct. 28, 1971, she married Robert W. "Robbie" Long in Newkirk, Okla. They made their home in Arkansas City.

Survivors include her husband, Robbie Long, Arkansas City; three sons, Danny Donohue, Winfield, and David Donohue and Donald Donohue, both of Arkansas City; a daughter, Pat Street, Arkansas City; four sisters, Eva Duncan, Cedar Vale, Joan Stoddard, Wilmot, Martha Buchanan, Arkansas City, and Pearl Wolf, Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Elaine Fromm

FORT WORTH, Texas - Elaine Fromm, 58, homemaker, of Fort Worth, died Nov. 2, 1998, at a Fort Worth hospital.

At her request, no service will be held.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Fromm was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Marion, S.D. She married Theodore Fromm, formerly of Winfield, 40 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Theodore Fromm, Fort Worth; three sons, Richard Fromm and Michael Fromm, both of Fort Worth, and Thomas Fromm, San Antonio; her mother, Jacobenna Wiebe; five brothers, Mentor Wiebe, John Wiebe, David Wiebe, Dan Wiebe and Ed Wiebe; two sisters, Marilyn Whaylen and Betty Isaak; and four grandchildren.

Ronald Blevins

UDALL - Services for Ronald L. Blevins, 80, who died Oct. 31, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Udall United Methodist Church. The Rev. Blake Orr officiated. Burial was in Udall Cemetery.

Carolyn Ramsey was the organist. Janet Eldridge sang "In His Presence," and the congregation sang "Blessed Assurance."

The honorary casket bearer was Ray Lacey. Casket bearers were John, Kirk and Mark Barnett, John Brookings, Shelby Godwin and Richard Morney.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Johnston

HUTCHINSON - Elizabeth S. Johnston, 86, retired former co-owner of Cunningham Music Co. in Winfield, died Nov. 5, 1998, at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson.

A Rosary service will be held at 7 tonight at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Winfield Soroptimist Club and the Kansas Elks Training Center Program through the Winfield Elks Lodge. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Johnston was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Winfield, to Bert and Mary (Brown) Lang. Raised in Winfield, she graduated from Winfield High School in 1930. As a young woman, she was employed as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Willmer.

On Oct. 16, 1938, she married Jean A. Johnston in Winfield. They lived in Winfield throughout their marriage. During the 1940s they purchased Cunningham Music Co. from W.W. Cunningham and operated the music store for 38 years prior to retirement.

Her husband died Aug. 22, 1991.

Johnston resided at Cumbernauld Village for several years before moving to Wesley Towers in July.

A member of Holy Name Catholic Church, she was also affiliated with the Winfield Soroptimist Club and the Winfield Elks Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Spencer, Arkansas City; a sister, Gertrude Custer, Phoenix; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Viola Barnett

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Viola Mae Barnett, 75, of McKenzie, formerly of Elk Falls, died Nov. 5, 1998, at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Burial will be in Elk Falls Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Barnett was born June 27, 1923, in Elk Falls, to Charlie and Mae (Bennett) Osborn. She attended school in the Elk Falls community and married Virgil Barnett.

Until her retirement, she was employed as a factory worker.

Barnett was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarksburg, Tenn., the Golden H's of Grace Baptist Church in McKenzie and the Macedonia Community Club. She had been a volunteer at Oak Manor Health Care Center.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil Barnett, and a son, Dallas Barnett, both of McKenzie; two daughters, Dela Poe, Ohio, and Doradean Barnett, Montgomery, Ala.; two brothers, Cecil Osborn, Arkansas, and George Osborn, Collinsville, Okla.; three sisters, Bessie Royce and Helen Davis, both of Howard, and Barbara Sanders, Seattle; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

June Russell

Services for June Marie Miller Russell, 76, who died Nov. 4, 1998, were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 6, 1998, at Miles Funeral Service. John Miller and the Rev. Phillip "Bo" Graves officiated. Private burial services will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita.

Delores Miller and Deanna Hamilton sang "In the Garden." A tape of them singing "Serenaded by Angels" and a recording of Elvis Presley's "Peace in the Valley" were also played.

Honorary casket bearers were Danny Russell, Lee Roy Russell, Eric Russell, Bruce Russell, Sammy Russell and Chris Russell.

Ted Flower

UDALL - Theodore J. "Ted" Flower, 76, of Udall, died Nov. 7, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Derby Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial has been established with the youth programs at First Church of the Nazarene in Udall.

Flower was born Oct. 24, 1922, near Augusta, to Jesse Merle and Elizabeth Pearl (Snook) Flower. He attended Wichita schools, including East High School, and later took architectural drawing classes at Wichita's vocational-technical school.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Flower worked as an independent milk truck driver for 29 years and also owned and operated Flower Conoco in Derby until retiring in 1972.

On May 29, 1973, he married Carolyn Kay Fisher at Belle Plaine. They lived on a farm near Mulvane, and he worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Mulvane school district.

The Flowers moved to Udall in 1978, and he had been disabled since 1982.

Flower attended the Baptist Church and was a 25-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Derby.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Flower, and a son, Ted Flower Jr., both of Udall; a daughter, Tedda Hobson, Derby; a stepson, Everett Comstock, Udall; three stepdaughters, Ann Beougher, Winfield, Donna Warren, Udall, and Sandra Alexander, Mulvane; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A stepdaughter, Sharon Hamlin, preceded him in death.

Elizabeth Johnston

Services for Elizabeth S. Johnston were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 7, 1998, at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Maybrier officiated.

Vocal music included "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," "Ave Maria" and "Song of Farewell." Bill Chamberland was the vocalist, and Dorothy Groene was the organist.

Interment was in Highland Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Ron Farnsworth and Phil Johnston. Casket bearers were Pete LeRoux, Mark Nelson, Brady and Kenny Shippy and Greg and Steve Spencer.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
