Rusty Moore

Charles Russell "Rusty" Moore, 61, of Route 3, Winfield, died Nov. 13, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, south of Winfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and until noon Tuesday.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Moore was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Douglass, to Charles W. and Alma L. (Bird) Moore. He received his earliest education in Douglass schools before his family moved to Winfield when he was 7. He attended Winfield schools, including Winfield High School. As a young man, he began work as a delivery driver for Sheneman's Meat Market.

From 1955 through 1958 he served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic stationed in San Antonio, Washington and Montana. Following discharge he returned to work at Sheneman's.

During the early 1960s he lived in Noel, Mo., while he was employed in a family service station in Afton, Okla. In 1965 he and his family moved to Wichita where he began employment at Beech Aircraft Co.

In 1970 he returned to Winfield where he married Kristine Madison on Dec. 17, 1971. They resided in Winfield throughout their marriage.

Moore had completed 33 years of service with Raytheon Beech this month.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kris Moore, Winfield; three sons, Troy L. Moore and Justin S. Moore, both of Winfield, and Jeffrey D. Russell, Arlington, Texas; a brother, Gary Moore, Abell, Md.; two sisters, Peggy Sumner, Springfield, Mo., and Beverly Rhodd, Wellington; and two grandchildren.

Buck Leonard

CEDAR VALE - Leo "Buck" Leonard, 65, of Cedar Vale, died Nov. 11, 1998, at his farm in rural Cedar Vale.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Burial will be in the Leonard family cemetery in rural Cedar Vale.

Leonard was born July 24, 1933, in Pawhuska, Okla., to Leo and Wilma (Parker) Leonard. He was raised in the Pawhuska area and graduated from Pawhuska High School. He also attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

He married Shirley Denney who died Jan. 13, 1996.

On Aug. 18, 1997, he married Ava Montgomery in Miami, Okla.

A rancher, he had lived in rural Cedar Vale since 1975. He had previously lived in Sand Springs, Okla., where he owned and operated Sportsman Bait & Tackle Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Ava Leonard, Cedar Vale; two sons, Patrick Leonard, Cedar Vale, and Glen Leonard, Waterloo, Iowa; a daughter, Cheryl Wade, Cedar Vale; his mother, Wilma Leonard, Wynona, Okla.; two brothers, Bill Leonard, Wynona, and Charles Leonard, Pekin, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert White

Dr. Robert Burnley White, 73, of Winfield, died Nov. 14, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow for visitation with family and friends in the fellowship hall.

Memorials have been established with First United Methodist Church and the USD 465 Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

White was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Mount Zion, Ga., to the Rev. Raymond F. and Fern Elizabeth (Naugle) White. Because his parents where missionaries in the United States and Turkey, White grew up in many locations but always considered Winfield his home because his grandparents lived here. He graduated from Wilmore High School.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as an officer in an arms disposal unit. He returned to Winfield to graduate from Southwestern College in 1948. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School. He served a residency in general practice in Chicago and began his medical practice in Hanover before returning to Winfield. He was a charter diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice.

White had medical practices in Winfield, at Sumner County Regional Medical Center in Wellington and at the United Methodist Urban Ministries Clinic and St. Mark's Ministries, both in Wichita.

On Dec. 2, 1981, he married Patricia Jackson.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees and boards. He was a member of the Friends and Lovers Sunday school class, the church choir and United Methodist Men.

White was also a member of the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Medical Association, Cowley County and Sedgwick County medical societies and the Wichita Jaeger Club. He was a charter member of Southwestern College's Campus Players and had acted in Winfield Community Theatre productions.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia White, Winfield; four sons, Joshua Burnley White, Winfield, Christopher Brett White, Overland Park, and Dr. Robert Scott White and Robert Kevin White, both of Wichita; five daughters, Jessicah Elizabeth White, Pamela Rhea White and Sudie Rebecca White, all of Winfield, DeAnna Lynne White, Atlanta, Ga., and Jeruschka Carter White, New York City; a brother, Wesley Raymond White, Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Jo Ungles, Ulysses; and five grandchildren.

A daughter, Abigail Josephine White, preceded him in death.

Sarah Davis

INDEPENDENCE - Sarah Alice Davis, daughter of Derrick and Melissa (Sutton) Davis, was stillborn Nov. 13, 1998, at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville, Okla.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Havana Cemetery. The Rev. Grady Davis will officiate.

Friends may call at Webb & Roderick Funeral Home, 306 W. Main, Independence, until 5 today.

A memorial has been established with the Bolton Friends Church Kids Club.

Survivors include her parents, Derrick and Melissa Davis, her brother, Jacob Kyle Davis, and her sister, Laken Nicole Davis, all of Independence; her grandparents, Harley and Kay Davis and J.R. and Ginny Davis, all of Independence, Mike and Kathy Sutton, Tyro, and John and Nicky Mealey, Cherryvale; and her great-grandparents, Irene Sutton, Winfield, and Kyle and Maxine Welch, Independence.

Jake McClure

Services for Ralph "Jake" McClure, 78, who died Nov. 10, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Stanley Seymour and Rick Thornton officiated. Burial was in Green Lawn Cemetery in Grenola.

Special music selections included "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace," performed by Charles Gonzales. Carolyn Behan was the organist, and Pam Lacey was the pianist.

Military graveside services were conducted by Winfield American Legion Post 10 and and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544.

Honorary casket bearers were Stanley Asbury, Jerry Ashenfelter, Herb Brunton, Willis Brunton, Charles Chambers, John Conway, Frank Cummings, Frank Fox, Carl Hawley, Lawrence Holt, Ernie Hull, John Kielhorn, Jeff Larimer, Barney Lundy, Jack McDade, Darwin Newton, Howard Redburn, Bob Redford, M.R. Redford, Bart Schooley, Jim Schooley, Randy Schooley, Richard Schooley, Floyd Smith, Don Snyder, Raymond Trobaugh and Clifford Wallace.

Casket bearers were Ronald Allison, Dean Keplinger, Lane Larimer, Louis Lowery, J.D. Redford and Neil Watt.

Memorials have been established with the Winfield Saddle Club and the Cambridge Senior Citizens.

Ralph Tapia

A Rosary was said for Ralph Tapia, 47, who died Nov. 12, 1998, at 7 p.m Nov. 15 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Maybrier officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Jackie Barnett and Bill Chamberland sang "On Eagles' Wings," "I Have a Father Who Can" and "Ava Maria." Organist was Dorothy Groene.

Honorary casket bearers were Curtis Hall, Parke Biby, Tim Moore, Todd Montoya, Jesse Tovar, Clayton Crawford, Paul Reynolds and Joe Delozier.

Casket bearers were Ed Oller, Ron Dobber, Steve Leake, Bob Carrillo, Steve Cochran and Vic Walker.

A fund has been established to help with expenses. Contributions can be made through Commercial Federal Bank.

Stella Childs

ARKANSAS CITY - Stella M. Childs, 91, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 14, 1998, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Revs. Mark L. Fry and Guy E. Rendoff will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's and Similar Diseases Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Childs was born Jan. 11, 1907, to George W. and Lela F. (Berkley) Spires in Mound Valley. She was raised in the Rock area and attended Green Valley School. She attended Winfield High School and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1926. She then taught at Pretty Prairie for two years.

On Nov. 3, 1927, she married Kenneth E. Childs in Wichita, and they made their home in Hutchinson. They later moved to Arkansas City where she worked for Newman's and Wright Burton Hardware as a sales clerk. She served on the election board for years.

Childs was a charter member of the Saturday Morning Coffee Club and a member of the U.S. Navy Mothers, the auxiliary at the Arkansas City hospital, First United Methodist Church, the Wesley class at the church, a church circle and the So-Sum Club. She attended Calvary Chapel in Arkansas City.

Her husband died in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Childs, Arkansas City, and Stanley N. Childs, Wichita; a daughter, Wanda Joyce Dowell, Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Ida McDaniel, Augusta; two stepbrothers, Lloyd Wheeler and Floyd Wheeler, and a stepsister, Dorothy Foreman, all of Hutchinson; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ira Thomas

MOLINE - Ira Lee Thomas, 72, self-employed oil and gas jobber, died Nov. 15, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Moline United Methodist Church.

Memorials have been established with the church, Moline New Beginnings Workshop, Moline American Legion Post 388, Howard Masonic Lodge 155 and Ladonia Chapter 243 of the Order of Eastern Star in Elk Falls. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thomas, Moline; a son, Raymond Thomas, Topeka; a daughter, Teressa Kirkpatrick, Longton; and three grandchildren.

Floyd McCollim

MOLINE - Floyd Ernest McCollim, 94, a self-employed mechanic and resident of Moline, died Nov. 15, 1998, at his home.

Services will be held at the Moline Christian Church at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.

Friends may call at Zimmerman Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and before the service at the church.

Memorials have been established with the Moline Christian Church and Hospice Inc. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Jenettie McCollim, Moline; a son, Floyd McCollim, Jefferson, Texas; and two daughters, Evelyn Grover, Moline, and Thelma Fulgham, Huntsville, Texas.
