Wilburda Robinson
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Wilburda "Birddie" Church Robinson, 80, of Winter Garden, Fla., formerly of Winfield, died Dec. 1, 1998.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery
in Winfield at a later time.
Robinson was born in Miami, Okla., on April 24, 1918, to Della (Mayo) Church. She attended schools in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1937.
In 1938 she married Sheldon Robinson in California. They made their home in Winfield until moving to Woodward, Okla., in 1970. After her husband's death in May 1979, she moved to Florida.
Survivors include two sons, William Robinson, Kissimmee, Fla., and Robert Robinson, Groveland, Fla.; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Christina Hart
WICHITA - Christina (Moore) Hart, 81, of Wichita, retired sheet metal assembler at Boeing, died Jan. 20, 1999.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel. Burial was in Resthaven Garden of Memory.
A memorial has been established with the Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Hart was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Rogers, Ark., to Frank C. and Merle A. (Nims) Moore.
Survivors include two sons, James Hart, Winfield, and Ronald Hart, Wichita; a daughter, Regina Hart, Wichita; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Charley Withrow
MCPHERSON - Charley N. Withrow Sr., 81, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 22, 1999, at Pleasant View Home in Inman.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at Stockham Family Funeral Home Chapel in McPherson. Burial was in McPherson Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center of Washington University in St. Louis and the Dillon Nature Center of Hutchinson. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Withrow was born March 16, 1917, in Laverne, Okla., to Carroll Parkley and Edna Mae (Carlisle) Withrow. On March 10, 1934, he married Doris Mae Crosby in Forgan, Okla.
Withrow had owned and operated Charley's Machine Shop in McPherson. The Withrows lived in Winfield from 1957 to 1962 and in McPherson from 1962 to 1981. They had resided at Kanopolis Lake since 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Withrow, Kanopolis Lake; a son, John Withrow, address not given; two daughters, Joycelyn Stogsdill, Fort Scott, and Sally Quesada, Marquette; two sisters, Gertrude Fermin, Hoisington, and Sarah Elizabeth Chappee, Hastings, Minn.; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Charley N. Withrow Jr., preceded him in death.
Beulah Servis
HOUSTON - Beulah Fern Servis, 77, of Houston, died Dec. 28, 1998, in a Houston hospital.
Services were held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston on Dec. 30. Drs. H. Eugene Cragg and Scott Endress officiated. Burial was in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with The Caring Forever Fund of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079.
Servis was born July 19, 1921, near Moline, to William E. and Myrtle (Gruben) Venning. She attended Center rural school and graduated from Moline High School in 1938. She attended Pittsburg State University for two years.
On Aug. 11, 1941, she married Robert L. Servis of Winfield in Eureka Springs, Ark. They moved to Manhattan that September while he finished his education, then to Denver where he worked. They moved to Houston in 1948. Her husband died in 1988.
A homemaker, Servis had been a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church since 1971.
Survivors include her sons, the Rev William Servis, Newton, Texas, and John R. Servis, Houston; a sister, Grace M. Hamilton, Garden City; two grandchildren, and an aunt, Dorothy L. Cross, Bartlesville, Okla.
Theda Tucker
Services for Theda L. Tucker, 73, who died Jan. 20, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 23 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Steven Souther and Diane Massey officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Special vocal music included "I'm Your Angel" and "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were Lloyd Cox, Chris Jenkins, Ron Martin, Brad Tucker, Brandon Tucker and Ricci Tucker.
Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and the American Cancer Society.
Loretta Beltz
CEDAR VALE - Loretta Minnie Beltz, 61, formerly of 203 Minnesota, Winfield, died Jan. 25, 1999, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital. She had been living at the Cedar Vale Nursing Center for the past three years.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel in Winfield. James French will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Beltz was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Winfield, to David Franklin and Minnie Esther (Oyster) Beltz. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1955.
For many years Beltz worked in food services at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include a brother, David Junior Beltz, Winfield, and four sisters, Elzora D. Cline and Lola Allgaier, both of Winfield, Cleona Addams, Jenks, Okla., and Wanda Waldorf, Cortez, Colo.
Lorraine Sweeney
Services for Lorraine Marcille Sweeney, 64, who died Jan. 22, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center Cemetery. The Rev. Robert M. Snively officiated.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and Martin Luther Homes of Kansas.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Washburn
Charles M. "Charlie" Washburn, 94, of 920 E. Sixth, Winfield, died Jan. 26, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Warren Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
A memorial has been established with First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Washburn was born Nov. 23, 1904, on a farm near West Union, Ill., to C.B. and Lucy L. (Smith) Washburn. He was educated in Illinois schools and moved to Winfield in 1923.
For several years he was employed in general labor in the Winfield area before beginning his career as a barber in 1926.
On Aug. 2, 1928, he married Mary Allison in Ottawa. They resided in Winfield throughout their 70 years of marriage.
Washburn was a practicing barber in Winfield for over 43 years before retiring in 1969.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and formerly affiliated with the Redmen's Lodge and Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Washburn, Winfield; two brothers, Paul Washburn, Belle Air, Ill., and Kenneth Washburn, Fox Lake, Ill.; and three sisters, Gladys Tynan, Humbolt, Ill., Thelma Miller, Indiana, and Lillian Chapman, Casing, Ill.
Jack Glamann
WELLINGTON - Jack M. Glamann, 78, longtime resident of Wellington, died Jan. 27, 1999, at Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Nel Holmes and Randy Abbey will officiate. Military services will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through Frank Funeral Home.
Glamann was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Wellington, to Christopher and Mabel (Mitchell) Glamann. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1943 he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in petroleum engineering and in 1948 with a degree in geological engineering.
On March 29, 1981, he married Inez G. Keim in Joplin, Mo.
A retired manufacturer of aircraft parts, Glamann was co-owner of Midwest Aircraft Parts from 1964 to 1969, and co-founder of Lamar Aircraft Parts in 1965. Lamar was sold in 1988.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Post 1167 and Tom Schwinn American Legion Post 90.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Glamann, Wellington; a son, Christopher Glamann, Wichita; three stepsons, Rick V. Brown, Wellington, Nick R. Brown, Amarillo, Texas, and Shawn Jennings, Wichita; and five grandchildren.
Harold Lauppe
Harold O. Lauppe, 95, of 708 N. Tweed, Winfield, died Jan. 28, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Quentin Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with Tisdale United Methodist Church and Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Lauppe was born Feb. 8, 1903, on a farm northwest of Burden, to George E. and Hattie (Harris) Lauppe. Raised in the Burden area, he was educated in Silver Creek rural school and began farming with his father as a youth.
On May 22, 1923, he married Ione Ruggles, and they made their first home on a farm in the Tisdale community. They farmed in the Tisdale and Burden communities throughout their marriage. She died in October 1956.
Lauppe moved to Winfield in 1967. In June 1967 he married Louesa M. Sieker, and they lived in Winfield throughout their marriage. He retired from farming and ranching in 1988.
A former member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, he was also affiliated with the Winfield Farmers Union Co-op. He had received several soil conservation awards, served on the board of the Silver Creek school and had served as a trustee of Sheridan Township.
Survivors include his wife, Louesa Lauppe, Winfield; two sons, George M. Lauppe, Lawrence, and Dwain O. Lauppe, rural Winfield; a daughter, Darlene Hart, Lawrence; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
