Bareiss
Ronald V. Bareiss, 67, Atchison, died Aug. 27, 2007, at a Topeka hospice after a 10-year battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 21, 1939, in Atchison, the son of Ernest E. and Erma Cashman Bareiss. He was a graduate of Atchison High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Bareiss worked for TWA overhall base and Snowden Mize Athletic Store, both in Kansas City. He also worked as an import-export trade consultant with Spehart Inc., working primarily in Malaysia and Thailand. He retired in 1997 from OMI. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison and a member of the Pastor's Bible Class and the Kennedy Callers. He married Marlene Bramble. They divorced. He married Ruth Meyer on June 30, 1998, in Oregon, Mo. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Rodney Bareiss and wife Bobbi Sue, St. Joseph, Mo., and Randy Bareiss and fiancee Tina, Farmersville, Texas; three stepchildren, Renae Miskowic, stationed in Guam, and Stephen Miskowic and Daniel Miskowic, both of Lansing; a sister, Nancy Higley, Steelville, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Loren Bareiss, Charles Higley Jr. and Ted Higley; and a sister, Doris Jean Ingels. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison, with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Jordan
Brent Curtis Jordan, 44, Topeka, died Aug. 26, 2007, at his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1962, the son of Kenneth and Donita Cordon Jordan. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1980 and graduated from Emporia State University in 1984 with a degree in education. Mr. Jordan taught middle school for 10 years and coached basketball and football. He had worked in management for Goodyear in Topeka since 1994. He was a member of the Emporia Alumni Association. Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Donita Jordan, Topeka; paternal grandparents, George and Viola Spiker, Wetmore; two sisters, Sally Jordan, Overland Park, and Tara Jordan-Crawshaw, Topeka; and a nephew, Jacob Crawshaw, and a niece, Ashleigh Crawshaw, both of Topeka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Wetmore Cemetery. Lemon
Margaret Anne "Peggy" Lemon, 60, Topeka, died Aug. 25, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., from complications following a double lung transplant in February. She was born July 4, 1947, in Topeka, the daughter of William and Frances Eileen Gannon Love. She graduated from Hayden High School in 1965 and earned a degree at Barton County Community College as a registered nurse. Mrs. Lemon worked several years at St. Francis Hospital and then as the Director of Nursing at Woodland Health Center for 15 years before retiring for health reasons in 2002. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Marian Clinic during her retirement. She was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka. She married Thomas Lemon on April 22, 1967, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Tom Lemon and wife Karen, Topeka; two daughters, Mary Hanson and husband Lonnie, Hoyt, and Angela Smith and husband Richard, Topeka; grandchildren, Ava and Maggie Lemon, Clare, Kate and Caroline Hanson, Zach, Alaina and Olivia Smith; siblings, Bill Love and Tim Smith, both of Texas, Jean, Elizabeth, and Thomas Smith, all of Topeka, and Mike Smith, Wichita; and her mother-in-law, Frances Doyle, Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kevin Love. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 S.W. Urish Road, Topeka. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Hendren
Nathan Thaddeus Hendren, 31, Wichita, died Oct. 6, 2007. Mr. Hendren was a package handler and driver for UPS. Survivors include his wife, Amanda Faith Hendren; his mother, Melany Barnes; his father, Thad Hendren; his grandmother, Clara Hendren; and other family members. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Nancy Hendren. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 145 S. Millwood, Wichita. Visitation with family will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Joseph's Parish, sent in care of Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Jacobs
Clinton Otto Jacobs, 85, Tucson, Ariz., died Aug. 19, 2007, in Tucson. He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Holton, the son of Otto and Anna Jacobs. He attended elementary school at Maple Grove and high school in Holton, graduating in 1939. He later graduated from Kansas State University and received his doctorate degree from the University of Missouri. Mr. Jacobs served in the U.S. Navy as a flight instructor during World War II. He later served on the KSU faculty for 18 years in the agricultural engineering department. After receiving his doctorate degree, he joined the faculty at the University of Arizona, where he taught for 19 years, retiring in 1987 as professor emeritus. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1972. He was married to Myra Jacobs for 62 years. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Edwin Jacobs and wife Peggy; three daughters, Kristen VanDenburgh and husband John, Karen Soupir and husband Jim, and Ellen Jacobs; a sister, Maxine Fuller; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Aug. 25 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Ariz. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holton Cemetery. Rogers
Emily Ruth Rogers, 73, Emporia, died Oct. 9, 2007, at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton. She was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Jackson, Miss., the daughter of Henry Clifton and Ruth Jane Chancellor Brent. She lived in Holton from 1971 until she moved to Emporia in 1991. Mrs. Rogers was a waitress for Trails Café and Willie's Diner in Holton, and later at the Flying J in Emporia. She married Charles Rogers in 1956. They divorced. Survivors include a daughter, Peggie Zirger, Topeka; two sisters, Ruby Behrends and Romona Powers, both of Holton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Brent and Marvin Brent. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holton Community Hospital Hospice, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Shea
Jo Alice Shea, 69, Holton, died Oct. 8, 2007, at her home. She was born Feb. 5, 1938, at Holton, the daughter of Henry W. and Violet M. Houpt Jenkins. She attended Central Elementary School and graduated from Holton High School in 1956. Ms. Shea was Deputy Register of Deeds for Jackson County, then Register of Deeds for a total of 28 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of Holton Business Women and Holton Community Hospital Auxiliary. While serving as secretary of the Democrat Central Committee she made the motion locally to nominate Al Gore for President. Survivors include a son, Wayde M. Shea and wife Lisa, Ottawa; a daughter, Barbara D. Shea, Holton; three sisters, Ila Rose Moser and husband Paul, Rita Mae Jenkins and Wanda Sue Jenkins, all of Holton; four grandchildren, Caitlin Elizabeth Shea, Connor Michael Shea, Claire Annelise Shea and Callie Janelle Shea, all of Ottawa; a nephew, Gregg A. Moser, Holton, a niece, Terri A. Moser Gallup and husband Andy, Owasso, Okla.; and a great-nephew, Dustin Gallup, Owasso, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Jenkins. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Ms. Shea will lie in state at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, where family and friends will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10. She also will lie in state an hour before service time at the church. Wenger
Brenda J. Wenger, 56, rural Powhattan, died Oct. 8, 2007, at her home. She was born June 13, 1951, at Onaga, the daughter of Clarence and Alberta Weber Tessendorf. She had lived in northeast Kansas all of her life, growing up at Onaga and attending elementary school there until moving to Hiawatha when she was in the fifth grade. She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1969. Mrs. Wenger worked for Hiawatha attorney Don Cashman for several years. She worked for 22 years as a bookkeeper at Hiawatha High School before retiring. She was a member of Powhattan United Methodist Church for several years. She also was a member of the Monday Night Bowling League in Hiawatha. She married Dean Wenger on Nov. 27, 1987, at Powhattan. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Jill Widman Steinmetz and husband Tommy, Topeka; her mother and stepfather, Alberta and Chuck McGhee, Hiawatha; two sisters, Sandy Day and husband Steve, Topeka, and Terry Cooney and husband Tom, Nebraska City, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Tessendorf; and a son, Todd Widman, on March 1, 2000. A celebration of life service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at Powhattan United Methodist Church, with Pastor Priscilla Davies officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, where family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10. Elliott
AnnaBelle Mae Elliott, 76, Hoyt, died Oct. 4, 2007, at her home. She was born June 28, 1931, at Navarre, the daughter of Emery Gordon and Esther Emma Pigorsch Lenhardt. Mrs. Elliott worked for Refrigeration Equipment, Petro's and Fleming Foods. She married Donald G. Elliott on Dec. 9, 1945, at Alma. He died Sept. 13, 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Carol S. Edmond, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Debra R. Cole, Lenexa; a son, Dennis G. Elliott, Hoyt; four grandchildren, Leila Pollock, Topeka, Dawn Gwin, Colorado Springs, Colo., Eric Cole, Olathe, and Tara Jennison, Overland Park; and twin great-granddaughters, Nyssa and Vittoria Gwin of Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mrs. Elliott will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1700 S.W. Seventh Ave., Topeka, KS 66606.

Forster
Toka Jean Forster, 51, Topeka, died Oct. 6, 2007, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1956, at Holton, the daughter of Charles N. and Edna J. Fitzsimmons Forster. She graduated from Holton High School in 1974. Ms. Forster worked for the Topeka Water Department for several years. She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Survivors include her parents, Charles and Edna Forster, Holton; a brother, Terry Forster, Whiting; and a sister, Kathy Kyser, Topeka. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jay R. Forster, in 2001. Cremation is planned. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 in Holton Cemetery. Grau
James A. Grau, 61, Mayetta, died Oct. 3, 2007, at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 1, 1946 in Beloit, the son of Gene Morris and Mary Kathryn Hyde Grau. He graduated from Winona High School in 1964, received an associate of arts degree from Fort Hays State College and later graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in business. Mr. Grau served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War. He later owned and operated Mayetta Oil Company for many years and also operated Jim Grau Construction. He was a life member of VFW Post 1367 in Holton. He also served as mayor of Mayetta. He married Karla Winters on June 15, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Shane Grau, Topeka; a daughter, Shelby Grau and husband Brett James, Mayetta; four brothers, John Grau, Soldier, Greg Grau, Kansas City, Mo., Pat Grau, Atlanta, Ga., and Art Grau, Mesa, Ariz.; a stepbrother, Harold Herring, Grove, Okla.; and a grandchild expected in March. Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
