Harvey Eddie
ARKANSAS CITY - Harvey Firth Eddie, 93, of Arkansas City, died April 24, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hawks Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Seagoville, Texas.
A memorial has been established with the Lung Association of Kansas. Contributions may be through the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Eddie was born June 2, 1905, in Burden, to George B. and Sadie (Firth) Eddie. He was raised and educated in Burden.
He married Dorothy Johnson, who preceded him in death.
In 1965 he married Ida Amanda Baker Bandy in Grand Prairie, Texas. She died Aug. 31, 1987.
He worked for Ling, Timeco and Vaught in Grand Prairie until he retired. He then moved to Seagoville, Texas. After his wife's death, he moved to Arkansas City where he made his home with his brother, Gilbert.
Eddie was a member of Union Bower Baptist Church in Irving, Texas, and attended the Friends Church and Missionary Baptist Church in Arkansas City.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Louise Eddie, Arkansas City; two nephews, Kenneth Eddie, Maybank, Texas, and Ray Eddie, Fort Morgan, Colo.; a niece, Charlene Deprist, Englewood, Colo.; and his friend and caretaker, Maxine Earle, Arkansas City.
Two sons, Ronald and Robert Eddie, and four stepsons, Robert, Bill, Raymond and Floyd Bandy, preceded him in death.
Jerry Cameron
Jerry L. Cameron, 55, of 2118 Johnmark Drive, Winfield, died April 25, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Private services will be held later in Highland Cemetery
under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
Cameron was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Council Grove, to William R. and Ruth E. (Galloway) Cameron. He was raised and educated in Council Grove.
On Sept. 27, 1964, he married Rita Kelley in Winfield.
In 1965 Cameron entered the U.S. Army National Guard. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with Company A of the 137th Infantry, U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1969.
A resident of Winfield for over 33 years, he had been employed by General Electric Co., the Winfield school system and Plessey-Midwest Corp. in Wellington.
A 1972 graduate of Winfield High School, he was a longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was employed in the maintenance department of the Wichita offices at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Cameron, Winfield; two daughters, Kelly Shaffer, Winfield, and Sherry Middendorf, Peck; a sister, Lydia J. Atkinson, Wichita; and four grandchildren.
Elvin Huff
Elvin L. Huff, 75, of 2116 E. Central, Winfield, died April 20, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Private services have been held. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Huff was born July 12, 1923, at Latham, to Kyle and Marie (Haselwood) Huff. He was raised and educated in Latham and moved to Winfield as a youth.
Huff worked as a bartender and disc jockey. During the 1960s and 1970s he owned and operated the Royal Club tavern in Winfield.
Survivors include a son, Kyle Huff, Gilmer, Texas.
Joseph McChesney
DEXTER - Joseph W. McChesney, 71, of Grouse Valley Manor, Dexter, died April 25, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church with burial in Cambridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with Grouse Valley Manor, Cambridge Presbyterian Church and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
McChesney was born June 3, 1927, in Kaw City, Okla., to Harry R. and Mae M. (Taylor) McChesney. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945.
On March 18, 1950, he married Alberta Rowe in Winfield.
McChesney worked as an operating engineer with Cities Service Gas Co., traveling to Missouri and Oklahoma. He spent 19 years in McLouth and working at Tonganoxie before retiring in 1986 at Haysville and moving to Dexter.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta McChesney, Dexter; two daughters, Shavaun Vernon, Bendena, and Brenna Dwight, Pennsylvania; his mother, Mae McChesney, Dexter; a sister, Judith McChesney, Phoenix; and four grandchildren.
Ella Fleitz
WICHITA - Ella D. "Oma" Fleitz, 73, of Wichita, died April 25, 1999, at her home.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 tonight at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Magdalen at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ken Van Haverbeke will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 7 tonight.
Fleitz was born June 28, 1925, in Munich, Germany, to August and Freida (Schumann) Rauch. On Jan. 7, 1952, she married Anson R. Fleitz in Munich.
She was co-owner of the S.J.J. Wakefield Ranch at Atlanta and a member of the Church of the Magdalen.
Survivors include her husband, Anson Fleitz, a son, James Fleitz, and a daughter, Susan Fleitz, all of Wichita; and three grandchildren.
Judith Fogle
UDALL - Judith Ann Knopp Fogle, 42, of rural Udall, died April 26, 1999, at her home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Ninnescah Cemetery
at Udall.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to benefit her family. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Fogle was born Aug. 31, 1956, in Burlington, Iowa, to John F. and Beverlee (Cooper) Knopp. She was raised and educated in Burlington and as a young woman was employed by the Pizzaz Motel in Burlington.
On Oct. 6, 1978, she married Ron Fogle in Burlington. The couple resided in Missouri and Salina before moving to the Udall community in 1989. They divorced in 1997.
Fogle had been employed by the Bank Roll Cafe in Udall and most recently had worked at the Sav-A-Trip convenience store in Belle Plaine.
She was affiliated with the Dale Club of Udall.
Survivors include two sons, Dustin John Fogle, Udall, and Shane Alan Fogle, Dexter; her father, John F. Knopp, Burlington, Iowa; and four sisters, Clara Johnson and Lin Baker, both of Burlington, Rita Hermann, Udall, and Johna Knopp, Ponca City.
Glenna Finney
Glenna G. Finney, 90, a Winfield resident for nearly 65 years, died April 28, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Finney was born Aug. 19, 1908, near Old Hickory, Ark., to William Sydney and Nora Etta (Vincent) Massingill. She was raised in Arkansas and received her early education in an Old Hickory rural school. She later attended Morrilton (Ark.) High School.
On May 31, 1929, she married William C. "Bill" Finney in Winfield. They lived in Arkansas City before moving to Winfield in 1934.
Finney was employed as a psychiatric aide at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for 16 years before retiring in 1975. She was also self-employed in cosmetic sales.
Her husband died March 16, 1980.
Finney moved to Walnut Towers in 1978 and lived there until moving to Good Samaritan Village in 1992.
A longtime member of the First Christian Church where she was active in the Lydia Group, she had also been affiliated with Winfield Business and Professional Women, Women's Christian Temperance Union, Welcome Wagon, Army Mothers Club, Cowley County Fair Association Ladies Auxiliary and Winfield Rose Club. For a number of years, she served as a hostess for Winfield bus tours.
Survivors include five sons, Ward Jackson Finney, West Memphis, Ark., Charles D. Finney and Carl R. Finney, both of Winfield, Guy H. Finney, Wichita, and John Finney, Los Indios, Texas; a sister, Grace Mae West, Brentwood, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Jerry Cameron
Services for Jerry L. Cameron, 55, who died April 25, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. April 28 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 provided military honors.
Special music selections were "If I Had Only Known," "My Heart Will Go On," "Peace in the Valley" and "Uncloudy Day."
Honorary casket bearers were Anthony Middendorf and David Shaffer.
Casket bearers were Chris Deyoe, Gerald, Greg and Mike Holscher, Jon Huddleston and Ron Reynolds.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
