LEIN, Katherin J. Lein, 89 years old, of Atchison, Ks. died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August27th, 2004 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, August 26th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ladies Aid Hall at Sugar Creek.
Katherin was born on October 27th, 1914 in Rushville, MO., the daughter of J.W. “Buzz” and Eva M. (Brown) Hargrove. She attended the Enterprise School, south of Sugar Lake. Katherin was married to Gaylord W. Lein on Feb. 13, 1935 in Troy, KS., and after their marriage farmed in the Good Intent Community. Mr. Lein preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1997. Mrs. Lein was a housewife, homemaker and enjoyed gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include a sister, Caroline Metzinger, Albany, MO., and fourteen nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, a daughter, Doris Jean Lein, two brothers, Sam and Glen Hargrove, and a sister, Hazel Smith preceded her in death.

PETESCH, Judy Petesch, 55 years old, of Oskaloosa formerly of Atchison, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Fr. Bertrand La Nue, pastor of St. Joseph’s church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Calvary Cemetery in Atchison. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of service on Thursday. Open viewing will be held from 8:00AM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 25, 2004. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Judy Petesch was born on May 26, 1949 in Atchison the daughter of Pat and Ethel (Morrissey) Faubion. Mrs. Petesch attended St. Benedict’s grade school, Mount St. Scholastica Academy and went to Mount St. Scholastica College majoring in interior design. Judy married Dennis Petesch on April 12, 1969 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison. He survives of the home. She was of the Catholic faith and belonged to St. Theresa’s parish in Perry, KS. Along with being a loving wife and mother Judy was interested in reading, collecting lighthouse figurines, dogs and the 4H. She held membership in the Kansa Prairie Quilters, the national humane society, the PTA and the ASPCA. She enjoyed bowling, their home in the country and most of all her many friends and her family, especially her two granddaughters.
Surviving Judy Petesch are her husband, Dennis of Oskaloosa; two sons, Dennis, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Winchester, KS and Mike and his wife Angelia of Topeka, KS; two granddaughters, Mickey Joe and Tesla Lee and four nieces and nephews. Preceding Mrs. Petesch in death is her mother.

JENSON, Jacqueline Jensen, 76 years old of Nortonville, KS formerly of Florida, died Friday afternoon at the Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 23, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Saint Joseph’s Church in Nortonville with Fr. Jon Hullinger as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Church. O’Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville is in charge of the arrangements.
Jacqueline Jensen was born on July 21, 1920 the daughter of Edmond and Rose “Sylvain” Marcotte in Manhattan, New York. Mrs. Jensen attended schools in New York State and held an Associate of Arts degree. Jacqeline was married to Henry M. Nebel in 1947 and was later divorced. She married James Mike Jensen in 1967 in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Jensen died in 2000 in Sebring, Fla. where the couple had retired. Jacqueline moved to Nortonville in 2002. Mrs. Jensen was a Bookkeeper for the Malibu East Condominiums in Chicago. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Nortonville. Among her interests were drawing and painting, gardening and she enjoyed playing tennis.
Surviving Mrs. Jensen is one son Keith Nebel, Atlanta, GA; one daughter Althea and her husband Bob Sirridge of Valley Falls, KS; and one grandson, Kome Nebel. One sister Pauline Marcotte, preceded Jacqueline in death.

HARRISON, Raymond J. ‘Bud’ Harrison, 78, of Lancaster, KS died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Atchison Hospital in Atchison, KS. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, KS. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, Sunday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lancaster Saddle Club or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Mr. Harrison was born on January 27, 1926 in Atchison, KS, the son of Raymond A. and Mary (Cummings) Harrison. Ray was a World War II US Army Veteran. He lived and delivered milk in the Raytown, MO area for a few years. Mr. Harrison then worked for several years at Lincoln Grain in Atchison as a grain inspector before working for over twenty-five years for the Estes Ranch and Atchison County Sale Barn in Atchison as a farm laborer. Ray was a member of the Lancaster Saddle Club and 4-H Fair Board Horse Show member. Ray and LaWanda Lesher were married in 1949. They later divorced. Ray then married Melva Jean Searles on June 27, 1969 in Atchison. Survivors include his wife, Melva Harrison of Lancaster, KS; four daughters, Sherry and husband, Mike Pennington of Easton, KS, Belenda Jacobson of Kansas City, MO, Kim and husband, Brett Winston of Kansas City, MO, and Shelley and husband, Dan Pruett of Lancaster, KS; one son, Bill and wife, Carol Wells of Maple Hill, KS; two sisters, Cleta Cowley of Palm Bay, FL and Margaret Corkran of Corrales, NM; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leo Harrison; one sister, Mary Harrison.

VANDERWEIDE, Esta M. Vanderweide, 87, Atchison, KS passed away Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at St. Joseph Church, Atchison, KS with the Rev. Bertrand LaNue, O.S.B. Celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or Midland Hospice House and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at beckerdyer@sbcglobal.net
Mrs. Vanderweide was born June 4, 1917 in Montreal, MO the daughter of James W. and Willie (Twitchell) McLaughlin. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church and the Altar Society. She later became a member of St. Joseph Church and a member of St. Matthew’s Circle (Altar Society with the church). She was a 4-H Leader of Atchison county, and a member of the Atchison county election board. She enjoyed volunteering for the Rosa Valley Grade School. Esta was always active in gardening, sewing, cooking birthday cakes and cinnamon roles and she loved her family.
She married Wilbur O. Vanderweide on October 14, 1940, he preceded her in death on October 14, 1987. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister and her parents.
Survivors include her sons Phillip and his wife Trudy Vanderweide of Lenexa, KS; Bob and his wife Paula Vanderweide of Auburn, KS; and Mike and his wife Marilyn Vanderweide of Ozawkie, KS. Daughters Judy and her husband Jerome Wolters of Atchison, KS; and Janice Armstrong and her husband Corky of Topeka, KS. 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Sister Ruby Robbins of Escondido, CA.

URBAN, Donna M. Urban, 75 years old, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Urban will be offered on Monday, August 9, 2004 at St. Benedict’s Church at 10:30 a.m. with Father Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Louis Cemetery at Good Intent. A parish rosary will be said on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donna Urban Memorial Fund for Linda Urban and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Donna Urban was born on April 30,1929 in Atchison, KS, the first of thirteen children born to Andrew and Florence (Van Horn) Servaes. Mrs. Urban attended the Sumner grade school and the Mount Saint Scholastica Academy. Donna was married to Peter Charles Urban on April 30, 1944 in Atchison. He preceded her in death on 7, 1991. She was a life long resident of Atchison and a member of St. Benedict’s parish. Mrs. Urban and her husband began Urban Lawncare Service in the early 1960’s. Donna also worked at the Atchison Hospital as a nurse’s aide for twenty-five years and until her death, she had spent the last twenty years as a caretaker at Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison. Mrs. Urban treasured time with her grandchildren and will be forever remembered for her hard work and for taking care of her daughter, Linda Sue. She loved gardening, flowers, cooking and caring for her pets.
Surviving Mrs. Urban are six children; Bonnie and her husband Marion Schuetz, Linda Urban, Joyce and her husband John McKibben, Patricia and her husband Norman Worthy, Charles Ron and his wife Michelle Urban and Travis and his wife Rebecca Urban; Eight grandchildren, Kristi, Brandon, Kerry, Joshua, Todd, Kylee, Maria, Ashley and Keith; Five great grandchildren, Tyler, Alicyn, Brady, Taylor and Kaylen; Four step-grandchildren, Paige, Holly, Megan and Cassie. Also surviving are six sisters and six brothers.
Preceding Mrs. Urban in death are her parents, her husband and one son, Brian who died on May 13, 1986.

WOLFE, E. Leroy Wolfe, 69, Atchison, KS passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Medicalodge of Atchison.
Inurnment will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Doniphan Cemetery. The body has been cremated under the direction of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to help with funeral cost and sent in care of the funeral home.
Leroy was born December 20, 1934 in Harrison, PA the son of Ed and Lena (Larson) Wolfe. He had been employed with the City of Atchison, Gerald Ford Construction and retired from the County of Atchison serving with the road department and landfill. He married Shirley Folsom on October 27, 1951, they divorced after 31 years.
Survivors include his sons Alfred Edward Wolfe of Lansing, KS, Danny Wolfe of Kansas City, MO, Allen Wolfe of Atchison, Dennis Keith Wolfe of Atchison and Joseph Dale Wolfe of Nortonville. Daughters, Violet Marie Spilman, Tammy Lynn Wolfe-Bauman, and Patricia Ann Robertson all of Atchison. 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Sisters Lillie Craig, Betty Pierce and Shirley Cash. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Herbert Dean Wolfe, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

MOORE, Kenneth E. Moore, 66 years old, of Atchison died on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at his home in Atchison, KS.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 1:00 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen, Jr. pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church presiding. The body has been cremated. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Hospice program and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Kenneth Moore was born January 27, 1938 in Atchison the son of Charley Earl and Martha (Osmon) Moore. Mr. Moore went to schools in the Meridan, Kansas school district. In 1959 he moved to Omaha, NE where he met his future wife. In 1961 he and Janice Pribl were married, they later were divorced. While in Omaha he worked for Oliver Tractor Company and for the Omaha, NE public school system. Upon his return to Atchison in 1988 he worked as a custodian for the Atchison public school District #409. Mr. Moore enjoyed listening to country and western music, gardening, working on cars, camping, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the “Westernaires” a square dance group.
Mr. Moore is survived by his mother, Martha Griffin of Atchison, KS; a son, Bryan Moore of Omaha NE; a daughter Tammy and her husband Corky Elias of Atchison, KS; a brother, Charles of Atchison, KS; a sister, Darlene McCall of Topeka, KS; two grandchildren, Heather and Austin Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Moore in death is his father, one son “K. J." Ken Jr; one brother, Robert and one sister, Evelyn.
