Glenn May

Services for Glenn R. May, 90, who died July 30, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3, 1999, in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. LaRon Branson and Doyle Copeland officiated. Burial was in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. May's grandchildren sang "Alone with Jesus." The congregation sang "Only Remembered." Graveside music was "It Pays to Serve Jesus."

Honorary casket bearers were Mark and Winnette Sudduth, Allan and Sharon Sudduth, Douglas and Karen Dotson, Keith and LaGaya Belling, Cindy Hartsuiker, Deanette Schraw, Laurel May, Mililani May, Julie Headrick, Sarah Headrick, June Headrick, BriAnna Schraw and Nicole Schraw.

Casket bearers were James May, Jerry May, Rodney May, Krandal May, Glendon Schraw, Kendall Schraw, Mike Headrick, Jim Headrick, Phillip Headrick, Matthew Headrick and Andrew Headrick.

Memorials have been established with the Atlanta Community Building Fund and the Atlanta Rural Volunteer Fire Department, District 2.

Miles Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.

Jane Rogers

A memorial service for Dr. Jane Rogers, 67, who died July 31, 1999, were held at 3 p.m. Aug. 3, 1999, at her home. The Revs. Fran Broadhurst and Ron Keith officiated.

Lois Liggett performed on the dulcimer and autoharp.

Musical selections were "Shenandoah," "Amazing Grace," "Danny Boy," "O' God Our Help in Ages Past" and "Havah Nagilah."

Judith Zaccaria and Essie Sappenfield were guest speakers. Poetry read was "If I Must Pray," a poem written by Dr. Rogers when her mother died, "Post Humus" by Lori Burkhalter, and "An Irish Blessing."

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and Southwestern College.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Earl Farley

ARKANSAS CITY - Earl Farley, 74, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 3, 1999, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday morning from 9 to noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 8.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. and the American Lung Association. Contributions may be left at Hawks Funeral Home.

Farley was born on April 2, 1925, in Milan, to Jessie and Mary Zelpha (McFarland) Farley. He moved to Rome at the age of 19 and married Perdita Alma Pennock. They were married for 15 years and lived in Sumner County.

Farley moved to Arkansas City in 1964 and married Eva Jane Martin Shoup on Feb. 15 of that year at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City.

He farmed for many years in Sumner County before going to work for General Electric at Strother Field in 1962. He retired in 1987. Farley was a member of the First Christian Church in Wellington.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Jane Farley, Arkansas City; two sons, Ronnie Farley, Arkansas City, and David Earl Farley, Wellington; a daughter, Nancy Thomas, Emporia; three stepdaughters, Betty Joann Jones and Geraldine Ringgold, both of Arkansas City, and Grace Carroll, El Dorado; two brothers Warnie Farley and Lou Farley, and a sister, Lola Marie Brawbender, all of Wellington; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A stepdaughter, Billie Jean Dickson, preceded him in death.

Rachel Fulsom

CEDAR VALE - Rachel Annette Fulsom, 19, of Cedar vale, died Aug. 4, 1999, from injuries received in an auto accident.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Vale High School Gymnasium. Pastor Wallace Wartick and Brian Perrigo will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Grenola Christian Church and Cedar Vale High School. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard and the Chisholm Trail State Bank of Cedar Vale.

Fulsom was born Sept. 20, 1979, in Winfield, to Perry Edward and Carla Rae (Reeves) Fulsom. She attended Cedar Vale schools and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1998.

She was enrolled as a student at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo., and was currently employed by Paul J. Fulsom Inc. of Cedar Vale.

She was a member of the volleyball and basketball teams at Ozark Christian College and a member of the Grenola Christian Church.

Survivors include her parents, Perry and Carla Fulsom, a brother, Alex Fulsom, and a sister, Micah Fulsom, all of Cedar Vale; her grandparents, Paul and Frankie Fulsom, Cedar Vale, and Bertha Reeves, Grenola; and a great-grandmother, Meda Wolfe, Grenola.

Trudy Schmidt

ARKANSAS CITY - Trudy Kay Schmidt, 35, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 3, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Kansas Avenue Church of God. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Schmidt was born April 23, 1964, in Hutchinson, to LaVern Leo and Audrey Mae (Nelson) Schmidt. She was raised in the Wichita area and lived in Topeka until moving to Arkansas City 15 years ago.

She attended Cowley County Community College and was a certified nurse's aide.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Musick and Dallas Stowell, both of Arkansas City; a daughter, Kayla Stowell, Wichita; her mother, Audrey Nevius, Arkansas City; three brothers, Jimmy Schmidt and her twin brother, Tracy Schmidt, both of Arkansas City, and Steve Schmidt, Haysville; and a sister, Gayla Fisher, Arkansas City.

A son, Brandon Joe Musick, preceded her in death.

Weide Bauder

HOWARD - Walter Weide Bauder, 82, lifetime resident of Elk County, died Aug. 4, 1999, at Howard Twilight Manor.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. Richard Weaver will officiate. Burial will be in Cresco Cemetery, north of Howard.

A memorial has been established with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Elk Falls. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Bauder, the youngest of six children, was born Dec. 22, 1916, on a farm south of Howard, to John William and Anna L. (Liebau) Bauder.

On July 29, 1988, he married Maxine Edna (Neth) Hill at Newkirk, Okla. She died Jan. 28, 1995.

Before Mr Bauder's illness, he was an active minister with the Jehovah's Witnesses. His brother, Wilfred, cared for him during the past year.

Survivors include a brother, Wilfred Bauder, Howard; and two sisters, May Nordmeyer, Toronto, and Marie Smith, Harrison.

Kent Chesbro

ARKANSAS CITY - Kent M. Chesbro, 86, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 3, 1999, in Derby.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Guy Rendoff will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

A memorial has been established with American Cancer Research. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Chesbro was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Hillsdale, to Clarance and Gladys (Mader) Chesbro. As a young boy, he lived in various towns in Kansas and attended Wichita schools.

On July 14, 1932, he married Jessie F. DeVore in Miland. They made their home on the Magnolia Ranch near Arkansas City from 1943 to 1973. In 1973 they moved into Arkansas City and made their home. Mrs. Chesbro died in 1991.

Mr. Chesbro was a retired farmer and rancher and a life member of the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Bell, Derby.

Glenna Porter

GRANBURY, Texas - Glenna Porter, 67, of Granbury, Texas, formerly of Howard and Winfield, died July 28, 1999, at Glen Rose Medical Center in Granbury.

Services were held at 2 p.m. July 30, 1999, at Acton United Methodist Church. The Rev. H.F. Meier officiated. Burial was in Holly Hills Memorial Park.

Porter was born May 16, 1932, in Altoona, to Lester and Roxie Jolley. She graduated from Howard High School in 1950 and from William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.

She married Jim Porter.

A retired registered nurse, she had lived in Granbury for seven years. She was a member of Acton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Porter, Granbury; two sons, Todd Porter, Houston, and Rod Porter, Pampa, Texas; a sister, Fearol Perrigo, Winfield; and five grandchildren.

Glenn Kittle

AUGUSTA - Glenn E. Kittle, 69, farmer and truck driver, of Augusta, died Aug. 6, 1999, in Augusta.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Douglass. The Rev. Neal Alford will officiate. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hilyard-Smith Mortuary in Douglass from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Kittle was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Wichita, to Elmer Leonard and Bessie Mae (Sumwalt) Kittle.

On Jan. 26, 1951, he married Ruth Ann Holmes.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Kittle, Augusta; four sons, Ron Kittle, Sumpter, N.C., Ed Kittle, Augusta, Bill Kittle, Virginia, and Larry Kittle, Washington, Iowa; a brother, Robert Kittle, Douglass; and 11 grandchildren.
