Joe Feely

Joe V. Feely, 68, of Route 3, Winfield, died Aug. 8, 1999, in the Veterans Administration wing of Medicalodge East Healthcare Center in Arkansas City.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Military services will be held later in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Feely was born March 7, 1931, in Davidson, Okla., to D.C. and Ida F. (Skinner) Feely. He graduated from Enid (Okla.) High School.

On Sept. 22, 1968, he married Junele Bartholomew in Enid.

As a young man he enlisted in the United States Navy, served for four years, then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received numerous honors for marksmanship. In 1971 he retired from McConnell Air Force Base after 23 years of service.

Feely later worked as a mental health technician at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. For the past two years, he had worked at Casey's General Stores as the "pizza man."

Survivors include his wife, Junele Feely, Winfield; two stepsons, Jim Swinney, Winfield, and Michael Swinney, Topeka; a brother, Benny Feely, Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister, Linda Manly, Devol, Okla.; a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

A stepson, David Swinney, preceded him in death.

Hazel Carr

Hazel M. Carr, 91, of Route 5, Winfield, died Aug. 8, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Private burial will take place later in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and Winfield Meals on Wheels. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Carr was born March 20, 1908, in Chicago, to Francis Lowell and Edith Mae (Rhine) Tannehill. She was educated in Chicago and as a child visited her Grandmother Tannehill at Winfield. She later returned to Winfield to live on the Tannehill farm which her grandparents had homesteaded.

On Nov. 12, 1961, she married Frank Carr in Chicago. They moved to Winfield where she worked as a clerk in retail businesses. Her husband died Feb. 13, 1987.

Survivors include two nieces, Doris VanWinkle, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Laurel Bodkin, San Antonio, Texas; and a cousin, Wanetta Keasling, Arkansas City.

A son, Arnold, and a daughter, Lorene, preceded her in death.

Grace Crawford

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. - Grace Lenore Crawford, 93, formerly of Longton, died Aug. 8, 1999, at Golden Years Nursing Home in Harrisonville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Longton Cemetery. The Rev. Ted D. Davis will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Longton Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Crawford was born Jan. 18, 1906, near Oak Valley, to Charles R. and Zadie Catherine (Berry) Root. She attended rural Elk County schools and grew up in the Longton community.

On Feb. 11, 1928, she married Elmer G. Crawford in Longton. A homemaker, she devoted her life to making a home for her husband and sons in the Upola and Longton area. Her husband and a son, Glenn Crawford, preceded her in death.

Crawford was a longtime member of the Longton Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Raymond Crawford, Indianapolis, Robert Crawford, Peculiar, Mo., Ross Crawford, Americus, and Stanley Crawford, Olathe; a brother, Sam Root, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jewell Howard

OXFORD - Jewell Howard, 78, of Oxford, died Aug. 7, 1999, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Riverview Manor in Oxford. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today.

Howard was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Marshall, Ark., to John Hall and Ethel (McThompson) Colbert.

On May 28, 1939, she married Robert LeRoy Howard in Howell County, Mo. They lived in the Mountain Home, Ark., area until moving to Oxford in 1947.

Howard worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for more than 25 years before she retired.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge, both of Oxford.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Howard, Oxford; three sons, Dean Howard, Wichita, Harold Howard, Caney, and Bob Howard, Wellington; two daughters, Darlene Hall, Wichita, and Janis Welty, Oxford; a brother, Dr. John H. Colbert Jr., Willow Springs, Mo.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John Rhoads

DOUGLASS - John I. Rhoads, 79, of Douglass, died Aug. 6, 1999, in Douglass.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at Rock Road Church of Christ in Derby. Jay Allen officiated. Burial was in Douglass Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas, Know Your Bible and the Arthritis Foundation. Contributions may be made through Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass.

Rhoads was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Baynesville, to John Israel and Jenny (Kirkpatrick) Rhoads. On Sept. 1, 1956, he married Amelia Frezieres. She preceded him in death.

Rhoads was a retired school teacher. He had resided in Douglass for 20 years.

Survivors include five daughters, Louise Cantrell, Marie Johnson and Bonnie Schmidt, all of Wichita, Mary Jane Gentry, Bel Aire, and Alicia Gilbert, Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Walter Boucher

SEILING, Okla. - Walter Henry Boucher, 80, of Seiling, died Aug. 2, 1999, at Seiling Municipal Hospital.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at the First United Methodist Church. Ewel Vaughan and Randy Little officiated. Ronnie Jones delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Canton Cemetery, Canton, Okla.

Delores and Donna Bensch sang "Always" and "In the Garden." Ronnie Redinger sang "My Way," accompanied by Lavon Gore.

Honorary casket bearers were Milo Baker, Alton Gore, Verland Holub, Logan Johnson, Ronnie Jones, Lonnie Kephart, Johnny Pethoud, Ronnie Ward and Dale Wilson.

Casket bearers were his grandsons, Brian Boucher, Dr. Jimmy Boucher, Ryan Doke, Jerome Boucher, Stephen Boucher and Tony McGuire.

Walter Boucher was born Feb. 9, 1919, near Oakwood, Okla., to Lile Harvey and Josephine (Anderson) Boucher. He was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1936.

On Dec. 25, 1938, he married Eldora Page in Fairview, Okla.

Boucher served with the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946.

The Bouchers made their home in Canton until 1955 when they moved to Seiling where Boucher was employed as a salesman in an auto parts store. He later was co-owner of Fairview Auto Parts Store where he worked until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Canton Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church of Seiling.

Survivors include his wife, Eldora Boucher, Seiling; two sons, Troy Boucher, Winfield, and Terry Boucher, Georgetown, Texas; a daughter, Kathleen Doke, Duncan, Okla.; two sisters, Roxie Haigler, Canton, and Beulah Wickware, Houston; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Weinrich

WICHITA - Mary Frances Weinrich, 49, of Wichita, died Aug. 8, 1999, at her home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wichita. The Revs. John Neirman and Jesse Hernandez officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with SCCS Hospice of Derby and the American Cancer Society.

Weinrich was born Jan. 29. 1950, at Tahlequah, Okla., to Paul F. and Frances O. (Theiss) Phipps.

For 20 years she was a micro-film clerk for the Coleman Co. in Wichita.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her companion, Tony Ortiz, Wichita; two daughters, Angee Oliver, Park City, and Paula Roland, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Angie Ortiz, Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Phyllis Hotchkin, Burden, and Connie Weinrich, Winfield; and four grandchildren.

Lewis Venn

Lewis C. Venn, 86, of 1101 E. Fifth, Winfield, died Aug. 8, 1999, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. Military services will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Venn was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Buffalo, Okla., to Lewis and Ethel (Shields) Venn. He was educated in Buffalo schools.

On Feb. 1, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Germany in 1945, an EAME Theater ribbon with three bronze stars and good conduct medals.

On Sept. 7, 1957, he married Marie L. Millenbruch at Miami, Okla. She died in May 1973.

Venn worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 15 years and was a tree trimmer in Winfield for several years. He was also a landlord and painter.

Venn was a lifetime member of the Winfield Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Lucile Latas, Fairbury, Neb., and Darlene Cotton, Shidler, Okla.; a sister, Zora Turner, Winfield; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

A stepson, Oscar Weyer, preceded him in death.
