Mary Swinkowski
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Mary Knapp Swinkowski, 69, of Riverside, formerly of Winfield, died July 12, 1999, in Riverside.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. July 16 at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Chapel in Riverside. Dr. William F. Moore officiated. Private inurnment took place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Swinkowski was born in Norton to Harry V. and Faith Knapp. She was raised in Winfield but had lived in Riverside for 36 years.
A homemaker, she received a bachelor's degree in music from Southwestern College in 1952.
She was a member of the Retired Officers' Wives Club at March Air Force Base in Riverside and Child Help U.S.A.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Swinkowski, Riverside; a daughter, Mary Cloyd, Camarillo, Calif.; a sister, Theresa Buckles, Oklahoma City; and a grandson.
Emma Dodson
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Emma Dodson, 92, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Arkansas City, died Aug. 8, 1999, at Texhoma Christian Center in Wichita Falls.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions may be made at the church or Hawks Funeral Home.
Dodson was born Aug. 6, 1907, near Silverdale, to Rolland Seymour and Ethel Rowena (Harvey) Lord. She was raised in the Silverdale area and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1926. She later attended Arkansas City Junior College and a college in Kansas City.
On June 18, 1932, she married Vern Dodson in Arkansas City, and they lived in Arkansas City. He died Aug. 6, 1993. Dodson moved to Wichita Falls in 1994 to live with a granddaughter.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, its Class of Opportunity Sunday school and the missionary society.
Survivors include a brother, Jesse Lord, Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, JoEm Schmid, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Thomas Vern Cunningham, Tucson, Ariz.; and two great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Phyllis Cunningham, preceded her in death.
Eugene Adams
WICHITA - Eugene G. Adams, 85, of Wichita, retired Boeing liaison engineer, died Aug. 9, 1999.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery
at Oatville. Hillside Funeral Home West is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Adams is survived by his wife, Aileene Adams, Wichita; four sons, Don Adams, Fort Worth, Texas, Dennis Adams, Ponca City, Leonard Adams, Wichita, and James Adams, Arlington, Texas; four daughters, Emma Jean Gustus, Velma, Okla., Ellen Kinnaman, Grenola, and Mary Taylor and Linda Whisnant, both of Wichita; three brothers, Orville Adams, Victoria, Texas, Oval Adams, Independence, Mo., and Frederick Adams, Wichita; four sisters, Lola Allen, San Antonio, Texas, Duaine Humme, Harlingen, Texas, Vada Beard, Augusta, and Pauline Gee, Ringwood, Okla.; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Thelma Bacastow
ARKANSAS CITY - Thelma Bacastow, 80, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 10, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hawks Funeral Home with burial in Springside Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Grandview United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Bacastow was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Powell, Wyo., to J.A. "Gus" and Ada (Kilday) Reynolds. The family moved to Kansas when she was two and to Arkansas City in the early 1920s. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1937 and later attended Arkansas City Junior College.
On Sept. 4, 1942, she married Albert Bacastow in Louisville, Ky. They had lived in East Bolton Township near Arkansas City since 1946.
Bacastow worked as a legal secretary for George Templar and later for the firm when it included Earle Wright and Ted Templar. She retired in 1975.
Bacastow was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church where she had been financial secretary for many years, president of the United Methodist Women and Sunday school superintendent. She was also a member of the Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary and East Bolton Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Bacastow Sr., and a son, Albert Bacastow Jr., both of Arkansas City; two daughters, Linda Neal, Arkansas City, and Rose Ann Hendrickson, Winfield; a brother, Wayne Reynolds, Arkansas City; and four grandchildren.
Hazel Carr
Services for Hazel Madeline Carr, 91, who died Aug. 8, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Rick Thornton officiated.
Recordings of "Panis Angelicus" and "Ave Maria," sung by Luciano Pavarotti, were played.
Private burial services will be held later in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Winfield Meals on Wheels and First United Methodist Church.
Edith Napier
SYRACUSE - Edith Lucille Napier, 93, of Syracuse, died Aug. 10, 1999, at Hamilton County Extended Care Home.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Old Mission Cemetery
in Wichita. The Rev. Francis Rocque will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton County Extended Care Home in care of Greene Funeral Home, Syracuse.
Napier was born March 21, 1906, in Wauneta, to George Ervin and Cora Bell (Comer) Mattocks.
On Sept. 16, 1925, she married Nile D. Napier in Winfield. He died Sept. 23, 1978.
A homemaker, she had been a resident of Syracuse since September 1993 when she moved there from Wichita.
She was a member of Wellington Baptist Church in Wichita.
Survivors include two sisters, Isabelle Humphries, Grenola, and Evelyn Williamson, Syracuse; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A daughter, Barbara Jean, preceded her in death.
Joe Feely
Services for Joe Van Feely, 68, who died Aug. 8, 1999, were held at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Evangelist Donald Moore officiated. Trudy Andes sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Amazing Grace."
Military services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Honorary casket bearers will be Charlie Callaway, Jeff Champlin, Raymond Eiselt and Melvin Epp.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
Lewis Venn
Services for Lewis Curtis Venn, 86, who died Aug. 8, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 12 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Warren Smith officiated.
Vocal music selections were "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Memories."
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military ceremonies.
Casket bearers were Kenny Harpool, Alfred Meritt, Larry Meritt, Loren Meritt, Jack Venn and Jerry Venn.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Francis Lynn
BUTLER, Mo. - The Rev. Francis B. Lynn, 89, of Butler, died Aug. 10, 1999, at Willow Lane Nursing Center.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church chapel in Winfield. The Rev. Rick Thornton will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Schmitt Funeral Home of Wakeeny is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri.
Lynn was born Jan. 27, 1910, in Brookport, Ill., to Clay and Hallie Lynn. In 1934 he married Jean Everheart. She preceded him in death.
A minister of the United Methodist Church, Lynn served congregations in Kansas and Missouri before retiring in 1975. He had lived in Butler since 1989.
Lynn was a member of the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Paul Lynn, Eagle Lake, Texas; and one grandchild.
Lloyd Osborne
HOWARD - Lloyd Perry "Barefoot" Osborne, 86, longtime resident of Howard, died Aug. 12, 1999, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Howard. Pastor Marty DeWitt will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Osborne was born May 16, 1913, in Bates County, Mo., to Perry Hamilton and Katherine Irene (Chandler) Osborne.
A farmer most of his life, he was later employed at Kmart in Wichita for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Osborne, Howard; five sons, John Osborne, West Plains, Mo., Fred Osborne, Dallas, Harold Osborne, Fresno, Calif., Tom Osborne, Alexandria, Va., and Bill Osborne, Andover; two daughters, Beth Alloway, Manhattan, and Merry Baxter, Rose Hill; a brother, Bill Osborne, Houston; a sister, Betty Young, Durham, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
