Dulcie Rathburn

ROSE HILL - Dulcie Madge Rathburn, 79, of Wichita, former Cowley County resident, died Aug. 11, 1999, following a short battle with cancer, at the home of her son in Rose Hill.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Conway Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the Atlanta Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Rathburn was born Feb. 23, 1920, on a farm near Atlanta, to William Patterson and Mae Evelyn (Carver) Smith. Raised and educated in Atlanta, she graduated from Atlanta High School in 1938.

During World War II, she was employed at Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita.

On Feb. 7, 1943, she married Louis Krebs Rathburn in Atlanta. The couple lived in Conway Springs for many years. She worked for Pettigrew Hardware Co. in Wichita and later for American Wallpaper Co. until her retirement.

Following her husband's death in 1971, she lived in Wichita until moving to Rose Hill several months ago.

A member of the Atlanta Christian Church, she was also affiliated with Burden Chapter 128 of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Louis Jay Rathburn, Rose Hill; a brother, William P. "Bill" Smith, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Doris Wilson, Lake George, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Kenneth Hinkel

ARKANSAS CITY - Kenneth Marlen Hinkel, 37, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 12, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery at Grenola. Jerry Snell will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Salvation Army. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Hinkel was born Nov. 2, 1961, in Lockwood, Mo., to Everett Leroy and Darlene Elizabeth Hinkel. He attended school in Arkansas City and married Carla Dianne Mundy.

Hinkel was a self-employed handyman and made his home in the Arkansas City area throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Hinkel, and two daughters, Karen Hinkel and Krystal Hinkel, all of Arkansas City; his mother, Darlene Bullard, Choctaw, Okla.; two brothers, Kevin Hinkel and P.J. Graves, both of Arkansas City; and his sisters, Sandy McAfflin, Arizona, and Sherry Bruce, Winfield.

Aldene Flaming

WICHITA - Aldene F. Flaming, 81, of Wichita, formerly of 1911 E. 14th, Winfield, died Aug. 12, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Grace United Methodist Church.

Flaming was born March 7, 1918, in Hillsboro, to Pete and Tina (Regier) Hiebert. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Tabor College.

On July 16, 1939, she married J.W. "Bill" Flaming in Hillsboro. He died June 8, 1983.

After raising her children in Winfield, she graduated from Southwestern College and worked as a social worker at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.

She was an accomplished pianist and a member of Chapter CU of P.E.O. and Grace United Methodist Church.

She moved to Wichita in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Douglas J. Flaming, and a daughter, Kathleen Demuth, both of Wichita; a sister-in-law, Lois Martin, Winfield; and two grandchildren.

Mary Raspotnik

Mary Raspotnik, 72, of 506 E. 15th, Winfield, died Aug. 12, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Home from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established with Southwind Residential Services in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Raspotnik was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Crawford County. She lived with her mother, Anna Burnick, before moving to Winfield State Hospital and Training Center at age 13.

She continued to reside at the hospital for many years and moved to Focus Developmental Center in Winfield in 1996. She had lived at 506 E. 15th since February.

Mark Thomas

ARKANSAS CITY - Mark Steven Thomas, 38, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 14, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Thomas was born May 24, 1961, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Eugene Steven and Gloria Jean (Maylem) Thomas.

He moved to Arkansas City 17 years ago and was a self-employed contractor.

On March 21, 1996, he married Carolyn R. Munhall Borror in Miami, Okla.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Thomas, Arkansas City; a son, Marshall Steven Thomas, and a daughter, Nicole Renee Howell, both of Freemont, Ohio; a stepson, Justin Borror, and two stepdaughters, Donna Munhall and Kim Weston, all of Arkansas City; a brother, Mike Thomas, and two sisters, Sue Thomas and Becky Thomas, addresses not given; and six grandchildren.

Joanne Marsh

TULSA, Okla. - Joanne Marsh, 66, of Tulsa, formerly of Douglass, died Aug. 12, 1999, in Tulsa.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 in Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Chee Sin Ho officiated. Kennard Funeral Service of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass were in charge of arrangements.

Marsh was born April 18, 1933, in Douglass, to Arvy C. and Eleanor (Butler) Bannon.

A retired secretary, she attended the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Torrence, Broken Arrow, and Katy Robbins, Sugarland, Texas; a sister, Carolyn Reheis, Bartlesville, Okla.; a brother, Gary Bannon, Laverne, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A son, Steven Marsh, preceded her in death.

Dulcie Rathburn

CONWAY SPRINGS - Services for Dulcie Madge Rathburn, 79, who died Aug. 11, 1999, were held at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 in Conway Springs Cemetery. Pastor Sallie Shore officiated.

Music selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Peace in the Valley" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."

Casket bearers were Joshua Rathburn, Wyland Cantrell, Walter Downey, Clyde Golden, Leslie Hancock and Irving Stanley Olson.

A memorial has been established with the Atlanta Christian Church.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Claude Wilson

ARKANSAS CITY - Services for Claude E. Wilson, 86, who died Aug. 11, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Frank Turner and Richard Coldwell officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Music selections were "Somebody's Praying" and "In the Garden," performed by Richard Coldwell.

Honorary casket bearers were Woodrow W. Gibson, Dean Richards and Jack Sumpter.

Casket bearers were Kenneth, Don and David Brant and Alan, Ryan and Brent Teufel.

A memorial has been established with Missionary Baptist Church.

Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Onnie Hale

WICHITA - Onnie Lorena Hale, 82, of Wichita, died Aug. 13, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Hale was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Pendergrass, Ga., to Thomas Nelson and Clara Victoria (Sutton) Seabolt.

In 1934 she married Charlie Seabolt.

On June 15, 1959, she married the Rev. William Hale in Las Vegas.

The Hales rededicated their lives to Christ in 1974 and traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico doing revivals for 16 years.

Mrs. Hale worked for Dobbs House in the Miami, Fla., airport as an airline caterer for 10 years. She later worked for the Chesapeake Seafood House in Miami. While living in California, she became a licensed practical nurse.

The couple resided in Arkansas City from 1978 until moving to Wichita in 1986. While living in Arkansas City, they attended the First Assembly of God Church, Blessing Heights Church and the West Kansas Avenue Church of God. In Wichita, she was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. William Hale, Wichita; two sons, the Rev. William Hale II, Eugene, Ore., and Bradley Oliver Hale, Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Barbara Jean Hampton, Anaheim, Calif.; and Patricia Ann Spencer, Augusta; a brother, Roy Nelson Seabolt, Sun City, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, John Nelson Hale and Allan Hale, and a daughter, Crystal Prayer, preceded her in death.

Steve Harkey

LONGTON - Frank Stephen "Steve" Harkey, 61, of rural Longton, died Aug. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

Services were held at 2 p.m Aug. 16 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Pastor Robin Haines officiated. Burial was in Oak Valley Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Harkey was born April 28, 1938, in Tulsa, to Frank Benjamin and Maude Marie (Moore) Harkey. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1957 and attended college.

He married Betty J. Bowers, and they resided in Tulsa. He operated a landscaping and lawn sprinkler system business. His wife died Feb. 2, 1975.

On June 16, 1975, he married Marilyn A. Burch in Tulsa. They remained there until they sold the business in 1982. For the past 17 years they had lived on a farm east of Longton.

Harkey was a member of the Turley (Okla.) Lions Club and was past president of the Longton Lions Club. A longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a member at Longton until they consolidated with the Masonic Lodge of Elk City.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Harkey, Longton; two sons, Glendon Harkey, Tulsa, and Gary Harkey, California; a daughter, Patty Myers, Tulsa; a stepson, Don Roberts, Longton; and seven grandchildren.
