Mike DeLano

Services for Lynel E. "Mike" DeLano, 69, who died Sept. 10, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Rick Thornton and Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Laura Belle Haines was the organist. Martin Rude sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."

Honorary casket bearers were Warren Branning, Allen Hein, Kenny Lawrence, Nelson Lewis, Elmer Madison, Don Reed, Bob Saar, Ed Shane and Clyde Shay.

Casket bearers were Mace Archer, Jay Bannister, Joe Cummings, Ray Faber, Jim Helmer and Earl Miller.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the First United Methodist Church.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Collier

Marie Collier, 88, of 716 N. Tweed, Winfield, died Sept. 14, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Union-Graham Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the organ fund at First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.

Collier was born April 14, 1911, in Wichita, to John and Leona (Yeager) Townsend. She was raised and educated in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1929. She attended Southwestern College.

As a young woman, she was employed by a department store in St. Louis.

On March 21, 1935, she married Richard C. "Dick" Collier in St. Louis where they made their first home. They moved to Wichita in 1938 and to Winfield in 1940.

In 1946 they founded Collier's Service on South Main and operated the business until 1970. They purchased the former bowling lanes on West Ninth in 1952 and built the present bowling facility, now Walnut Valley Lanes, on East Ninth in 1959. They operated Collier's Lanes there until retirement in 1976.

A Winfield resident for almost 60 years, Collier had been a member of First United Methodist Church for over 40 years. At the church she served as treasurer and a Sunday school teacher and was a longtime member of Grace Raymond Circle.

Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Collier, Wichita, and Richard T. Collier, Gardena, Calif.; a sister, Mabel Maddox, Winfield; seven grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joel A. Collier, on March 23, 1996.

Bea Munday

MOLINE - Mae Beatrice "Bea" Munday, 83, of Moline, died Sept. 10, 1999, at her home.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Moline Christian Church. The Revs. Dee Wolfe and Ted Smith officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery at Grenola.

Wanda Mills was the organist. Dee Wolfe sang "I'm Going Home," and the Wolfe Family Chorus sang "Amazing Grace." The congregation sang "This World Is Not My Home."

Honorary casket bearers were Joe Ames, Chase Boyd, John Foust, Travis Foust, Randy Goldston, Kenneth Knickerbocker, Gary Rierson, Dennis Schultz and David Wonser.

Casket bearers were Mike Atherton, Vince Boyd, Bill Lawhorn, Billy Lesher, Tom Munday and Rob Wolfe.

A memorial has been established with the Moline Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Munday was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Pollock, Mo., to Everett J. and Elma Pearl Lota (Reeves) Lane. She attended a rural school in Putnam County, Mo.

On Dec. 9, 1936, she married Hersel Freman Wells in Kirksville, Mo. In 1941 the family moved to Sedan where she worked in restaurants until operating her own restaurant on the west edge of Sedan for many years. After the Wellses were divorced in 1963, she moved to Dexter and again went into the restaurant business.

On June 7, 1965, she married Eldon Lyle Munday in Wellington. They continued to operate the Dexter restaurant and farmed until moving to McPherson and Elyria where they operated a Mobil Oil bulk business. Munday was the bookkeeper for the business for nine years.

In 1978 the Mundays moved to Grenola, then later moved to Moline where she worked at Elk Manor Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Moline Christian Church and taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon Munday, Moline; a son, Leon Wells, Los Lunas, N.M.; a daughter, Judy Wolfe, Grenola; a stepson, Tom Munday, Havana; two stepdaughters, Nancy Lawhorn, Copan, Okla., and Carol Artherson, Havana; a brother, Marshall Lane, Allerton, Iowa; five sisters, Jean Bowman, Glendale, Ariz., Loraine Hoover, Gilman, Iowa, Eva Evans, Mesa, Ariz., Nellie Sticken, Graham, Mo., and Juanita Shultz, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A stepson, Richard Munday, preceded her in death.

Lela White

DEXTER - Lela Clarise White, 92, formerly of Cedar Vale, died Sept. 16, 1999, at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Dexter City Cemetery. The Rev. Norman Reeves will officiate.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established with Grouse Valley Manor.

White was born Oct. 11, 1906, in rural Chautauqua County to Cletus and Flora Olivia (Metcalf) Remmy. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Dexter High School.

On Jan. 16, 1929, she married Merritt C. White in Hoosier. He died Feb. 1, 1986.

White was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Donald White, Cedar Vale; two daughters, Nicole White, Leesburg, Fla., and Merita Sandoval, Odessa, Texas; a sister, Lovella Richardson, Wichita; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Barbara White, and a son, Dean White, preceded her in death.

Mark Colston

Services for Mark Adam Colston, 33, who died Sept. 12, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Curtis Fike officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Musical selections were "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Holes in the Floor of Heaven."

Honorary casket bearers were Joshua, Jeremy, Gary, Levi and Ceolah Colston and Kenneth McClaflin.

Casket bearers were Martin and Michael McClaflin, James and Gary Clark, Sam Carpenter and Michael Sultz.

A memorial has been established with Alcoholics Anonymous of Winfield.

Marie Collier

Services for Marie Collier, 88, who died Sept. 14, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 17 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Union-Graham Cemetery.

Scarlett, Courtney and Ashley Anglemyer sang "Amazing Grace." Music recordings were Pachelbel's "Canon in D," "Go Rest High on That Mountain," sung by Vince Gill, "The Lord's Prayer" by Norma Zimmer and "Abide With Me" by Jimmy Roberts and Norma Zimmer.

Honorary casket bearers were Vernon Hankins, Marvin Kaiser, Don Kearns, Steve McSpadden, Ward O'Neil, David Scott and Lou Steward.

Casket bearers were Duke Brooks, Bob Collins, Don Dietrick, Keith Flower, Don Gaskill, Hosey Harper, Randy Kaiser and Melvin Ruggles.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church's organ fund.

Irma Johnson

Irma Lorraine Johnson, 78, of Winfield, formerly of Rockford, Ill., died Sept. 17, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethesda Covenant Church, Rockford. Burial will take place later in Lakeview Cemetery, Tower, Minn. Cochran Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the National Kidney Foundation, 1900 W. 47th Place, Suite 310, Westwood, KS 66205.

Johnson was born April 10, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Gunnar and Helen Peterson. She graduated from North Park College and the University of Minnesota.

On Aug. 14, 1949, she married Reuben Johnson. He died in 1991.

Johnson taught public school music in Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Manitoba, Canada. She was also active as a duo-pianist with her husband and as a church musician. Her last position was as director of music and co-director of A Classic Chorale at Bethesda Covenant Church in Rockford.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Craig Johnson, Westerville, Ohio; a daughter, Louise Schuppener, Winfield; a brother, Richard Peterson, Minneapolis; and four grandchildren.

Erlene Knapp

CONCORDIA - Erlene Lenore Knapp, 83, of Concordia, formerly of Oxford, died Sept. 18, 1999, at Sunset Home in Concordia.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.

Knapp was born Dec. 17, 1915, at Orcutt, Calif., to David Marion and Zada Mary (Wilcox) Jamison.

On Sept. 11, 1934, she married Charles Wilbur Knapp in Canton. They lived in Oxford, and she worked for the United States Postal Service from 1965 until her retirement.

Knapp was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford and American Baptist Women.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Wilbur Knapp, Concordia, and Steven Curtis Knapp, Dallas; a daughter, Kristine Ann Forrest, Salt Lake City; a brother, Gene Jamison, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Roberta Ray, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Leola Packard, San Francisco; six grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death.
