Buck Snodderley

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Lyman "Buck" Snodderley, 83, of Fort Collins, formerly of Howard, died Sept. 11, 1999, at Spring Creek Health Care in Fort Collins.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. The Rev. Kibum Kim will officiate. Hope Lodge 155 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons will perform Masonic rites. Carter-Rader American Legion Post 149 will perform military graveside services. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Howard United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Snodderley was born April 12, 1916, at Kiowa, to Elmer Elbridge and Rachel Melinda (Lyman) Snodderley. He attended rural school near Kiowa and graduated from Kiowa High School in 1935.

During the late 1930s he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps at Ashland and Meade. In 1942, he joined the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. An infantry sergeant, he earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his action in combat.

On July 17, 1945, he married Mary Ellen Andrews in Wellington. They made their home in Howard for many years. Snodderley was employed as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. For many years he was an assistant district representative for the Boy Scouts of America.

Snodderley was a member of Carter-Rader American Legion Post 149, Columbia Chapter 142 Order of Eastern Star, Hope Lodge 155 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Howard United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Paul Snodderley, Fort Collins, and John Snodderley, Post Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Faye Troyer, Medicine Lodge, and Nancy Regear, Reedley, Calif.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mary Tyler

MOLINE - Mary Lou Tyler, 45, of Moline, died Sept. 19, 1999, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. The Rev. Harold Tucker will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. of Coffeyville. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Tyler was born Sept. 7, 1954, in Independence, to Virgil Luther and Lillian Frances (Wilson) Moyer. She attended Independence schools and graduated from Independence High School in 1972.

On Jan. 3, 1976, she married Billy Lee Tyler in Independence where they lived before moving to Moline in 1977. She was a teller for the Exchange State Bank of Moline for 10 years. In 1988 she began working for the city of Moline and was employed by the city until developing health problems.

Tyler was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Independence and attended the First Baptist Church in Moline.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Tyler, Moline, and her mother, Lillian Moyer, and two sisters, Kathryn Kinnamon and Bonnie Tucker, all of Independence.

A son, Travis Lee Tyler, died at birth March 19, 1978.

Clarence Wilhelm

Clarence T. Wilhelm Jr., 59, of 412 E. Fifth, Winfield, died Sept. 19, 1999, in Winfield.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of God in Webb City, Okla. Burial will be held in the Foraker, Okla., cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the Leukemia Society. Contributions may be made at the funeral home.

Wilhelm was born June 14, 1940, in Morrow, Ark., to Clarence and Dessie Alma (Winters) Wilhelm. He graduated from high school in Edna, Texas, in 1958 and received a degree in hotel management from St. Gregory's, Shawnee, Okla.

He worked for the Ramada Plaza in Edmond, Okla., before retiring.

Wilhelm sang bass with a quartet at the Church of God in Tulsa, Okla., where he was a member.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Wilhelm, Stillwater, Okla.; a daughter, Joyce Miller, Mcalester, Okla.; two brothers, James Wilhelm, Winfield, and Dwight Wilhelm, Cameron, Mo.; a sister, Naomi Lamb, Sapulpa, Okla.; and three grandsons.

Elias Hernandez

A Mass of Christian Burial for Elias Hernandez, 81, who died Sept. 18, 1999, was celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 22 at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

A Mexican Rosary was said Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. and an English Rosary was said Sept. 21, also at 8 p.m., in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel.

Dorothy Groene was the organist for the funeral, and Bill Chamberland was the song leader. Music included "Amazing Grace," "Come to Me" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives."

Casket bearers were Sean, Lance and Erik Hernandez and Manuel, Steven and Robert Barron Jr.

A memorial has been established with Holy Name Catholic Church.

Winifred Killough

Winifred S. Killough, 81, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 18, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Warren Smith will officiate. Inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Winfield Rotary Club.

Killough was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Max, N.D., to Dr. Anthony J. and Anna (Fox) Welker. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Fort Hays State University and certification as a public health nurse form the University of Minnesota.

On Oct. 14, 1942, she married Dr. Howard P. Killough at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He died July 6, 1995.

The Killoughs were serving in Hawaii at the time of Pearl Harbor. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps throughout the war.

After the war they moved to Pampa, Texas, then to Russell where she served as a Russell County Health Department nurse for 10 years. During that time she was selected Kansas Nurse of the Year by the Kansas Nursing Association.

She formed and served as president of the Russell County Registered Nurses Club and also served as president of the District 6 Kansas Nurses Association. She was also president of the Russell Parent-Teachers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6240 and Russell Business and Professional Women. She was selected Woman of the Year for Russell County by the BPW.

Killough attended the Philmont Scout Training Course and worked as a den mother and den mothers training instructor for several years and received the Scouters' Key Award for outstanding work in scouting.

She served as secretary-treasurer of the Russell County Republican Central Committee and as director of the Russell Duplicate Bridge Club. She was originator and director of the Russell County Science Fair and the Mid-continent Chess Tournament.

The family moved to Winfield in 1967.

Killough was active in a variety of organizations, including the Pearl Harbor Survivors, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Officers Association, American Nurses Association and Kansas Nurses Association.

She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and directed Winfield duplicate bridge games for 20 years. She and her husband also belonged to Clowns of America and the World Clown Association.

Her son, Howard Killough Jr., died in 1994.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Karen Killough, Manhattan, and a brother, Anthony Welker, Midland, Texas.

William McBee

ATLANTA - William McBee, 53, of Atlanta, died Sept. 19, 1999, as the result of injuries received in an airplane accident.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church of Burden and the Atlanta Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the church, Citizens Bank of Kansas in Atlanta or funeral home.

McBee was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Wichita, to Leonard and Ida Mae (Winters) McBee. He attended schools in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School in 1964.

On Nov. 5, 1971, he married Toni Huddleston in Wichita. They made their home in Augusta and Fredonia before moving to Atlanta in 1992.

McBee owned an aerial spraying business for 22 years. He had owned and operated McBee Trucking in Atlanta for the past four years.

Survivors include his wife, Toni McBee, a son, Joe McBee, and a daughter, Sarah Graham, all of Atlanta; his mother, Ida Mae McBee, Augusta; two brothers, Jerry Lee McBee, Mulvane, and Michael Earl McBee, Callahan, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Bernard Bottorff

Bernard Bottorff, 91, of Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, died Sept. 21, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerre Nolte will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday from 9 a.m. until service time.

A memorial has been established with Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.

Bottorff was born July 27, 1908, in Attica, to James Huey and Ida (Ward) Bottorff. He graduated from Attica High School in 1926 and attended Southwestern College.

On March 30, 1930, he married Nellie Lemmon on her parents' ranch in rural Barber County.

After their marriage, Bottorff worked and lived in Medicine Lodge and Winfield. The family later moved to Topeka where he worked for the state as a purchasing agent in pharmaceutical supplies until his retirement in 1974. After retirement, they moved to Collinsville, Okla., to care for his mother-in-law before returning to Winfield in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Bottorff, Cumbernauld Village; two sons, Bill Bottorff, Austin, Texas, and Jim Bottorff, Livermore, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Dublin, Denver; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mildred Reeves

TULSA - Mildred Ann Reeves, 86, of Tulsa, formerly of Wilmot and Winfield, died Sept. 21, 1999, at Ambassador Manor Nursing Home in Tulsa.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Floral Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the Gore, Okla., Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Reeves was born March 20, 1913, in Wilmot, to Lowell and Edna Mae (Calvin) Dunbar. She attended Wilmot and Winfield schools and graduated from Winfield High School.

On Oct. 23, 1932, she married Frank Leroy Reeves in Wilmot. They lived in Winfield until moving to Wichita in the early 1940s. They moved to Tulsa in 1968 and to Gore in 1978. Her husband died Feb. 19, 1982.

Reeves returned to Tulsa to live with her daughter, Reva Patton, in 1996 and had been a resident of Ambassador Manor since April 1998.

Survivors include a son, Max Reeves, and two daughters, Reva Patton and Dorothy Doll, all of Tulsa; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Dunbar and June Reeves, both of Winfield; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
