Faye Spangler

BURDEN - Faye M. Spangler, 90, of rural Burden, died Oct. 19, 1999, at her home.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Burden Cemetery. This has changed since an earlier announcement. Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with Burden Emergency Medical Services.

Spangler was born Feb. 9, 1909, in Humbolt to Harry and Susan (Norris) Millard. She attended Burden schools and graduated from Burden High School in 1929.

She completed a 2-year teacher education certificate at Southwestern College and taught in Kansas schools in the 1930s and 1940s. She later worked at Arctic Locker in Burden and was a telephone operator.

On Oct. 1, 1933, she married Marshall Spangler. He died Sept. 25, 1985.

Spangler was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church and had been active in several social clubs.

Survivors include a nephew, Bill Parson, Ponca City; her caretaker and friend, Deloris Krug, Burden; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bill Wilbur

Services for William Curtis "Bill" Wilbur III were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 19, 1999, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Pastor Bob Dalke officiated, and burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Music included "Wind Beneath My Wings" performed by Bette Midler; "The Dance" performed by Garth Brooks, and "Life's a Dance" performed by John Michael Montgomery.

Casket bearers were John Stoabs, Bob Dawson, Jack Leftwich, Charles Bean, Jim Lindley and Larry Gibson.

A memorial has been established with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

Dale Howell

WICHITA - Dale Eugene Howell, 55, of Wichita, formerly of Longton, died Oct. 15, 1999, of injuries received in a vehicle accident.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Longton Cemetery. The Rev. Ted D. Davis will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Longton Baptist Church. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Howell was born June 7, 1944, in Neodesha, to Arthur C. and Gladys Mae (Armstrong) Howell. He attended grade school at Longton before moving to Lindsay, Calif., in 1957.

Howell was a certified nurse's aide and later became a licensed practical nurse. He was employed in the nursing profession in Glendale, Calif., before returning to Kansas and working in hospitals and nursing homes in Eureka, Fredonia and Howard.

He had been a resident of Wichita since 1987.

Survivors include three sisters, Erma Blair, Lindsay, Calif., Aliene Cannon, Longton, and Shirley Greenburg, Asota, Wash.

Wilda Patterson

ARKANSAS CITY - Wilda M. Patterson, 87, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 20, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Guy E. Rendoff will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Patterson was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Alvin, Texas, to Roy E. and Ollie Rose (Hopkins) Dautrich. The family moved to Conway Springs when she was three and to Arkansas City in 1925. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1930.

On May 1, 1930, she married Clem Patterson in Pawhuska, Okla.

Patterson operated the Pro Shop in Chanute and was a homemaker. She was a member of the 230 Club and First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Army Mothers.

Survivors include her brother, Bill Dautrich, Murray, Utah; two grandchildren, Steven Patterson, Chandler, Ariz., and Debbie Kendrick, Arkansas City; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Patterson.

Bill Wilber

Everett Dobbins

Services for Everett P. Dobbins, who died Oct. 18, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Oct.. 21 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment was in Highland Cemetery.

The Rev. Warren Smith officiated, and special music included "In the Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Casketbearers were Fairel Bryce, Jack Embrey, Lee Fox, Ray Krepps, Thane Mettling, Lawrence Miller and Bill Neil. Lawrence Daggett was an honorary casketbearer.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church.

Guy Hall

FREEPORT - Guy W. Hall Jr., 84, of Freeport, died Oct. 19, 1999, in Wichita.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Freeport Cemetery. Pastor James Poland will officiate. Elliott Mortuary, Anthony, is in charge of arrangements.

The Guy Hall Agriculture Scholarship Fund has been established at Chaparral High School.

Hall was born March 6, 1915 in Harper to Guy W. and Mary Ellen (O'Connell) Hall. He was a farmer.

He is survived by his son, Patrick Hall, Nixa, Mo., a daughter, Kathleen Hall, Winfield, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Roy Lowrey

NORWICH - Roy S. Lowrey, 80, of Norwich, died Oct. 20, 1999, at Harper District Hospital in Harper.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Funeral Home Chapel in Harper.

Lowrey was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Kremlin, Okla., to Sam and Elsie (Chandler) Lowrey. He moved to Norwich with his parents as a young boy. On May 3, 1942, he married Cora Tanner in Bluff City.

Lowrey farmed and raised cattle and hogs. He later started a dairy and a dirt construction company. In the early 1960s he founded the Slope Tractor Co. in Harper and operated that company for many years. He and his son, Max, also raised sheep.

Lowrey was on the board of the Sumner-Cowley Electric Co. of Wellington for 15 years and was a former member of the Norwich International Order of Odd Fellows and the Argonia Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Lowrey, Norwich; three sons, Max D. Lowrey, Norwich, Richard Lowrey, Concordia, and Guy Lowrey, Anita, Iowa; a brother, John Lowrey, Winfield; four sisters, Damie Hutson, Olympia, Wash., Leota Hancock, Fredonia, Elsie Gentemann, Harper, and Dorothy Whitley, Mulvane; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Paul Roseberry

BREESE, Ill. - Paul A. Roseberry, 59, of Breese, died Oct. 21, 1999, at his home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in West Gate Baptist Church, Trenton, Ill. Interment will be in Ellwood Cemetery at Breese. The Revs. Mike May and Wendell Garrison will officiate, and Hempen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Gideons International.

Roseberry was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Arkansas City to Paul B. and Myrtle (Adams) Roseberry.

He was a self-employed bookkeeper and served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam on the USS Orion.

On Dec. 21, 1977, he married Katherine Walters in Denver.

Roseberry was a member of the Winstanley Baptist Church, Fairview Heights, Ill.; American Legion Post 252, Breese, Ill.; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3523, Carlyle, Ill.; National Rifle Association; and Gideons International. He had been president of the Breese library board and a member of the Lewis & Clark Library System board and conducted Bible studies at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Survivors include three sons, Brock Roseberry, Belleville, Ill., and Brad and Andrew Roseberry, Breese, Ill.; a daughter, Crystal Smith, Bloomington, Ill.; a brother, Ben Roseberry, Tecumseh, and his father and stepmother, Paul and Anna Mae Roseberry, Oxford.

Gerald Wheeler

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. - The Rev. Gerald M. Wheeler, 72, of Mountain Home, died Oct. 21, 1999, at Baxter County Regional Hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church in Newton. Interment will be in Towanda Cemetery. The Rev. Lynne Smith will officiate.

Memorials have been established with the Samaritans Purse, Hospice of the Ozarks and Eastside Baptist Church Mission Fund.

Kirby-Conner-Boaz Funeral Directors, Mountain Home, are in charge of arrangements.

Wheeler was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Winfield to Merton and Esta (Stewart) Wheeler. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy.

On March 21, 1948, he married Vivian Blakey in Arkansas City.

Wheeler became a Presbyterian minister and started churches in Louisville and Jackson, Ky., Leoti and Haysville, Kan., and Lake Norfork, Ark.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Wheeler, Mountain Home; two sons, Stephen Wheeler, Virginia Beach, Va., and Dwight Wheeler, Newton; a daughter, Cheryl Spore, Mountain Home; a brother, Wayne Wheeler, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; a sister, Evelyn Smith, Sun City, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren.
