Eugene Walker

Services for Eugene D. Walker, 73, who died Oct. 29, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Eugene McCarthy officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Vocalists were Jackie Barnet, Lovey McCarthy and Carlene Walker. Organist was Marsha Redmond. "I Believe I Can Fly" was sung by R. Kelly. The congregational hymn was "This World Is Not My Home."

Honorary casket bearers were Gene Cain, Edmond Hall and Casey, Christopher, Jeremy and Victor Walker. Casket bearers were Doug, Gary, Harry, Henry, Joe, Leslie and Roy Walker.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.

Paul Coggins

ARKANSAS CITY - Paul Eugene Coggins, 76, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 2, 1999, at his daughter's home in Wichita.

Services will be held Friday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Geuda Springs. A time for the service has not yet been announced. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Coggins was born on a farm near Geuda Springs on Feb. 6, 1923, to Milton Merle and Della Christy Coggins. He attended Geuda Springs schools.

Coggins served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1948.

On May 7, 1945, he married Sandra Puliafico in Baltimore, Md. They moved to Arkansas City after he was discharged from the service. He continued to serve in the U.S. Naval Reserve until he retired as a chief petty officer in 1975.

In Arkansas City Coggins worked at APCO-Total Petroleum for many years until he retired.

He was a past commander and life member of both Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 and Shelton Beaty American Legion Post 18.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Coggins, Arkansas City; a son, Dennis Coggins, Chandler, Ariz.; a daughter, Beverly Ingram, Wichita; four sisters, Virginia McMullin, Hastings, Mich., Elanora McMullin and Bonnie Smith, both of Arkansas City, and Madge McGuigan, Tulsa; a stepbrother, Jerry McCutcheon, Arkansas City; two stepsisters, Treva Casson, Oxford, and Bonnie Jo Younk, Bellview, Neb.; and two grandchildren.

David Crown

TOPEKA - David T. Crown, 59, of Topeka, died Oct. 25, 1999, at the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kansas Neurological Institute, 3107 SW 21st St. Burial will be in White City Cemetery.

Crown was born March 28, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He was a resident of Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for many years.

Survivors include his father, Homer E. Crown, Kansas City, Kan.; and three brothers, Joel Crown, Prairie Village, Jerry Crown, Tucson, and Dr. Loren Crown, Covington, Tenn.

Addie Utt

Beatrice Adeline "Addie" Utt, 85, of Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, died Nov. 2, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Warren Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist churches in Winfield and Dexter. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Utt was born Sept. 19, 1914, in rural Sedan, to Charles Ezra and Gertrude Casandra (Wolfe) Hall. She graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1933.

On Dec. 23, 1933, she married John Bernard Utt in Newkirk, Okla. They resided and farmed in the Cambridge and Dexter communities until 1957 when they moved to Winfield. He died May 26, 1990.

Utt retired from the C.R. Anthony Co. where she had worked in the piece goods department for over 25 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist churches in Winfield and Dexter and the Highland Club of Dexter. She served on the local election board and collected money for the Red Cross for many years before moving to Cumbernauld Village in November 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Utt, Winfield, and Charles "Rickey" Utt, Carbondale; two daughters, Janice Hoag and Nancy "Jody" Odell, both of Winfield; two sisters, Doris Bobbitt, Port Isabel, Texas, and Maxine Champlin, Denison; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary Findley

Mary A. Findley, 94, of Good Samaritan Village, Winfield, died there Nov. 4, 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home Sunday from 5 until the Rosary is said at 7 p.m. and Monday before Mass.

Findley was born Oct. 15, 1905, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., to Mathew and Mary (Dolenc) Bergant. She moved to West Mineral where she was raised and educated.

In April 1928 she married Mark H. Findley. They divorced in 1950.

During World War II Findley worked for Boeing, and later she was employed by William Newton Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She retired in 1968.

Findley was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors include a son, John Findley, Winfield; a brother, John Bergant, Medicineville, Ky.; three granddaughters, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Robert Bailey

SHAWNEE - Robert D. "Bob" Bailey, 71, of Shawnee, died Nov. 4, 1999, in Shawnee.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Park Baptist Church in Independence. The Rev. Keith Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Friends may call at Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home in Independence from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Monday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Masonic Home.

Bailey was born April 14, 1928, in Burbank, Okla., to Leonard N. and Cecile (Maxwell) Bailey. He attended school in Burden, graduating from high school in 1946. He then attended Wichita State University and Fort Hays State University.

On May 5, 1951, he married Mary Anna Orlowski in Tucumcari, N.M.

Bailey lived in the Hays area, then transferred to Craig, Colo., and Denver. He retired from Texaco as a senior accounting clerk in 1985. For the last four years, he had lived in Shawnee.

Bailey was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hays and a charter member of the New Life Club of the Kansas Masonic Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Anna Bailey, Shawnee; two sons, Gary D. Bailey, Colorado Springs, and Bruce A. Bailey, Independence; three daughters, Marcia L. Sovine, Craig, Colo., Debra K. Lindstrom, Colorado Springs, and Rita D. Grove, Independence; two brothers, Maxwell Bailey and Donald E. Bailey, both of Burden; two sisters, Betty Courtney, Winfield, and Doris Lewis, Marian, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charles Wood

HANNIBAL, Mo. - Charles Norlan Wood, 78, of New London, Mo., died at his home on Nov. 2, 1999.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Kenneth Schamber will officiate.

Memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church can be sent to Smith Funeral Home, 2619 St. Mary's Ave., Hannibal, MO 63401.

Wood was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Cedar Vale, to Clitus Virgil and Charalottie "Lottie" (Drake) Wood. He grew up in the Cedar Vale area.

A driver/trainer for Ruan Truck Lines of Iowa City, Iowa, he had also been a rancher and worked as a cattleman for the 101 Ranch in Oklahoma. He enjoyed rodeos as a participant and spectator and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church at West Ely, Mo.

Survivors include a son, Donald Ray "D-Ray" Wood, Pawhuska, Okla.; two daughters, Rachel "Kay" Oltjen, Wichita, and Charlotte "May" Bever, Winfield; a sister, Maxine Kiebel, The Dalles, Ore.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Wood was formerly married to Lois Pauline Wood, Winfield, and Cleta Wood, Hannibal, and they survive.

A son, Charles N. "Buck" Wood Jr., preceded him in death.

Viola L. Harris

MOLINE - Viola Lucille Harris, 89, died Nov. 4, 1999 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Longton Cemetery. The funeral arrangements are being handled by the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.

A memorial has been established with the Moline United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with the funeral home.

Harris was born May 28, 1910, in Oak Valley to William Henry and Sally Delany (Howell) Dewey. She attended South Oak Ridge School near Longton.

On Dec. 14, 1929, she married Herbert Ray Harris in Independence. They farmed near Oak Valley and Elk City for several years, before moving to Moline, where they owned and operated the Harris Produce Buying Station. In August of 1997, Viola and Herbert moved to the Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline.

Harris was a longtime member of the Moline United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Leonard Dewey of Independence.

Harris was preceded in death by her husband who died March 22, 1988.

Laura Adams

TULSA - Laura Clark Adams, 82, homemaker, of Tulsa, died Nov. 7, 1999, at her residence.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Garden Chapel of Ninde Funeral Directors, 3841 S. Peoria. Burial will be in A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy, Okla.

Adams was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Coffeyville, to Robert S. and Mary T. (Boner) Clark. She married Dr. George Mullin Adams in Tulsa. He died in 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Clark Adams, Bixby, Okla., and Warren Henry Adams and Paul Charles Adams, both of Tulsa; a daughter, Mary Ray, Mounds, Okla.; a sister, Roberta Snyder, Winfield; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
