Willie Schultz

MULVANE - Willie Schultz, 79, of Mulvane, died Nov. 11, 1999, in Wichita.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Udall United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cathy Holley will officiate. Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery in Mulvane.

Friends may call at Senter-Smith Mortuary from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established with the American Legion.

Schultz was born May 6, 1920, in Shattuck, Okla., to Carl and Mollie (Laubhan) Schultz.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948 and farmed for 48 years.

On Jan. 7, 1946, he married Dorothy Dove in Mississippi.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Schultz, Mulvane; a son, Carl Schultz, Oxford; a daughter, Judi Monsees, Dallas; a sister, Virginia Steinle, Mulvane; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Clara Massey

ARKANSAS CITY - A Mass of Christian Burial for Clara A. Massey, 79, who died Nov. 9, 1999, was held at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. Francis Cox officiated. Burial was at 4 p.m. in Seltzer Springs Cemetery in Wichita.

Karen Pontious was the organist, and Marcia Stultz was the song leader. Congregational hymns were "Be Not Afraid," "On Eagles' Wings" and "As the Deer Longs."

Honorary casket bearers were Jay Anderson, Jim Schultz, Gary, Ken, Kevin and Ron Trear and Marvin Utt.

Casket bearers were Bobby, Dane and Todd Massey, Del Roy Spoon, Dale Tarp and Leonard Wolfe.

A memorial has been established with Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Pierce

GREAT BEND - Donald Dean Pierce, 66, of Great Bend, died Nov. 13, 1999, at Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend. The Rev. Julius C. Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until service time Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Residential Care Center.

Pierce was born March 7, 1933, in Arkansas City, to James and Edna (Rauhoff) Pierce. In 1951 he married Betty Gardner.

A racehorse trainer and cowboy, he was also a former member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Pierce moved to Great Bend from Louisiana 12 years ago. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Great Bend.

Survivors include his companion, Eva McGinty, Great Bend; four sons, Monte Pierce and Johnny Pierce, both of Winfield, Brad Pierce, Dexter, and Darrell Pierce, Houston; a brother, Ivan Pierce, Texhoma, Okla.; a sister, Virginia Elliott, Great Bend; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Two sons, Billy Pierce and Jeff Pierce, preceded him in death.

John Miller

John J. Miller, 81, of Route 2, Winfield, died Nov. 12, 1999, at his home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First American Baptist Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. John Stone and Pastor Sherman Beasterfeld will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 8 tonight.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc., the American Cancer Society and the First American Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Miller was born Oct. 23, 1918, in rural Cowley County, to John Detrick and Emma (Johnson) Miller. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Sept. 5, 1948, he married June A. Mann in DeQueen, Ark. For many years he farmed southwest of Winfield.

Miller was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 of Arkansas City, the board of directors of the Hackney Farmers Coop Association and the Kansas-Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Association.

Survivors include his wife, June A. Miller, and a son, Russel Miller, both of Winfield; a daughter, Sherry Bowman, Rock; a brother, Lawrence Miller, Winfield; two sisters, Jeanette Kittrell, Bella Vista, Ark., and Glorine Brinigar, Winfield; and five grandchildren.

A son, Grover "Buddy" Miller, preceded him in death.

William Renshaw

William T. Renshaw, 68, of 1201 Menor, Winfield, died Nov. 14, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Renshaw was born April 4, 1931, in Erie, Pa., to William and Dorothy (Rouns) Renshaw.

He had lived and worked in Erie as shipping manager and machinist at Phillips Manufacturing. In 1974 he moved to Winfield.

A veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Sheridan Scott Renshaw, Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Verla "Ginger" Wadding, Erie, Pa.

Rose Coleman

Rose Coleman, 90, longtime Winfield resident, died Nov. 13, 1999, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Coleman was born May 15, 1909, in Oklahoma, to Clarence Eli and Elsie M. (Landreth) Coleman. She lived in various locations before moving to Winfield. Coleman had resided at Heritage House, now called Walnut Hill Nursing Center, for many years.

Survivors include a cousin, Vera Bowlby, and her friend and guardian, Maxine Collins, both of Winfield.

Tresa Kidder

A Mass of Christian Burial for Tresa Jo Kidder, 45, who died Nov. 9, 1999, was held at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Maybrier officiated. Burial was at 5 p.m. in Lucas Cemetery.

A celebration of life was held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Miles Funeral Service.

Special music was "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "Song of Farewell." Dorothy Groene was the organist.

Honorary casket bearers were Mary Lou Martin, Sharon Hood, Ed and Darlene Lange, Mary Martin, Bill and Toni Rodgers, Bev Smith and Sid and Pat Spooner.

Casket bearers were Gayle Cadkins, John Dimit, John Elliot, Randy Groene, Mike Hopple, Steve Kirkbright, Dale Martin, Gordon Smith and Mike Zachina.

Memorials have been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas at William Newton Memorial Hospital and Winfield Area Emergency Medical Services.

Helen Loomis

Helen Loomis, 94, of 716 Tweed, Winfield, died Nov. 13, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Seventh and Fairlawn, Topeka.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Loomis was born June 30, 1905, near Augusta, to Maurice Sherman and Myrtle (Carter) Loomis. She graduated from Augusta High School.

Loomis also graduated from the University of Nebraska with bachelor's and master's degrees and from Washburn University Law School.

She spent 10 years as a law clerk on the Kansas Supreme Court. During World War II, she served as acting dean of the Washburn University School of Law.

She was a member and president of the Kansas Bar Association for Women. She also served as an officer of the American Bar Association.

A member of the Augusta Christian Church, Loomis earned her 75-year pin with the Augusta chapter of Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Chi Omega sorority.

Survivors include a brother, Lloyd Loomis, Augusta, and a sister-in-law, Lela Loomis, Winfield.

Frances Lewis

MULVANE - Frances M. Lewis, 81, of Mulvane, former longtime resident of Winfield, died Nov. 17, 1999, in Derby.

Services will be held at 2 p.m Saturday in El Paso Cemetery in Derby. Friends may call at Smith Mortuary in Derby from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research.

Lewis was born May 11, 1918, in Hazelton, to Grover Cleveland and Vernia Ester (Fausett) Wilson.

On March 29, 1939, she married William Riley Lewis in Medicine Lodge. He preceded her in death.

An area resident for 20 years, Lewis was a homemaker.

Survivors include three brothers, Raymond Wilson, Cherokee, Okla., and Harold Wilson and Jerald Wilson, both of Mulvane; and three sisters, Mollie Nix, Woodard, Okla., Olga Owens, Wilton, Ark., and Lola Kiser, Jerome, Idaho.
