BESETTE, Ruth E. Besette, 85 years old, of Atchison, Kansas died Friday, October 8, 2004 at the Atchison Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, October 13th, 2004 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, Ks. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM on Wednesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Assoc. or the donor’s choice.

Ruth E. Trainer was born on November 5, 1918 in Atchison, KS. the daughter of Harve and Bessie (Jenkins) Trainer. She was a housewife and homemaker for most of her life. She and her husband built, owned and operated the former Melrose Motel, Atchison for several years. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Besette enjoyed painting, cooking, reading, making afghans, raising plants and flowers. She especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

Ruth was married to Melvin E. Besette, Sr. on May 4, 1935 in Atchison, KS. Mr. Besette survives of the home. Additional survivors include two daughter’s; Roberta Wolters and her husband Philip, Atchison, KS., and Barbara Besette and Steve Bartel, Pekin, ILL, nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her parents, a son, Melvin Besette, Jr., 1999, one brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

BRUCE, Ruby May Bruce, 67 years old, of DeKalb, MO., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, Feb. 7th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM on Sunday, Feb. 6th, 2005 with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, or the Sugar Creek Ladies Aid Hall, Rushville, MO.

Ruby M. Wynkoop was born on September 19, 1937, on the Symns farm in Bendena, KS. the daughter of Charles R. and Beulah (Sultzer) Wynkoop, Sr. She had attended Atchison public grade schools and Atchison High School. Ruby had worked several different places including Whitaker Cable, St. Joseph, MO., was a supervisor for many years at Atchison Leather Products, had worked at Uni-land, and retired from Golden Star in 2002. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison and had also attended Rushville Christian Church. She was a member of the Atchison Theater, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed reading, sewing, bowling, cooking and especially her family and friends.

Ruby was married to Henry “Dale” Bruce on May 26, 1954 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison. Mr. Bruce preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1993. Her parents, a son Rodney M. Bruce, and a son-in-law, Edward Elias also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons; Richard D. “Rick and his wife Sheila Bruce, Rushville, MO., Winston R. “Randy and his wife Regina Bruce, Rushville, MO., five daughters; Sherry R. and her husband Bob West, Rushville, MO., Brenda C. and her husband Jeff Moran, Rushville, Mo., Shelly R. and her husband David Wolfe, DeKalb, MO., Cinda Elias, Atchison, KS., and Jennifer and her husband Gary Ford, Rushville, MO., two brothers Charles “Butch” Wynkoop, Jr., Valley Falls, KS., and William “Billie” Wynkoop, IA., three sisters; Myrtle Godding, Leavenworth, KS., Norma Covault, Kansas City, MO., and Dorothy Thompson, Atchison, KS., Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

GRIFFIN, Beatrice S. “Sally” Griffin, 88, Winchester, KS (formerly of Overland Park, KS) died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Jefferson County Geriatric Center, Winchester, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 5, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Church, with Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Mooney Creek Community, Atchison County, KS. A rosary will be held, Friday, February 4, 2005 at 7:00 PM with visitation following until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, and may be left in care of the funeral home.

BURTON, Sarah Betty Burton, 78 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 at the Atchison Senior Village Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 5th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. with Rev. Steve Lucas, Pastor of the Faith Bible Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery, South of Atchison, Ks. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Liver Foundation or the Gideon Bibles Society.

Sarah Betty Gilliland was born on Sept. 24, 1926 in Atchison, KS., the daughter of Miles A. and May (Martin) Gilliland. She attended schools in Atchison. Mrs. Burton had worked for a time at the Atchison Hospital, and Saunders Mfg., but most of her life was spent as a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Bible Fellowship Church and enjoyed reading, cats, traveling, camping and crocheting.

She was married to Delbert E. Burton on May 24, 1947 in Atchison, KS.. Mr. Burton preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1991. Survivors include two sons; Bert Lee Burton, Atchison, KS. and Jerry Allen Burton, of Palmer, Alaska, four daughters including; Betty May Coy, Nortonville, KS., Nancy J. Welch, Atchison, KS., Patricia A. Seever, Atchison, KS. and Sherry Lynne, Olathe, KS. a sister, Willetta Barker, Atchison, KS., seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, five brothers, two sisters and a great grandchild preceded her in death.

WOHLGEMUTH, Roberta M. “Bobbie” Wohlgemuth, 78 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Valerian Ahles, Pastor of St. Mark’s officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, Feb. 3rd, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The body will be moved to the church one hour prior to services on Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Lighthouse Hospice or Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Roberta M.Godfrey was born on March 17, 1926 in Bendena, KS. the daughter of Robert W. and Laura M. (Neu) Godfrey. She graduated from the Atchison High School. Mrs. Wohlgemuth worked as a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and Social Order of Beaucants. She was an avid camper, and enjoyed traveling, collecting dolls, and especially her grandchildren.

She was married to Albert J. Wohlgemuth on December 25, 1944 at St. Mark’s Church in Atchison. Mr. Wohlgemuth survives of the home. Additional survivors include four sons; Gary S. and his wife, Peggy Wohlgemuth, John M. and his wife Jennifer Wohlgemuth, both of Atchison, KS., Jeffrey B. Wohlgemuth, McMinnville, TN, James and his wife Julie Wohlgemuth, Columbus, NE., a daughter, Jane S. and her husband, Robert Colburn, St. Charles, MO., a brother, Donald E. Godfrey, Grants Pass, OR, two sisters; Dixie A. Black, and Alta M. Clark, both of Atchison, KS., eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Her parents, three brothers, and a sister preceded her in death.

SANDERS, Ralph L. “Zip” Sanders, 75, Cummings, KS passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 at Atchison Senior Village, Atchison, KS

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Cummings Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Patterson officiating. Burial at Pardee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Wednesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cummings Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice.

Mr. Sanders was born February 12, 1929 in Pardee, KS the son of Henry and Minnie (Anderson) Sanders. He was a member of the Cummings Christian Church for 50 years where he was an elder and teacher. He was chairman of Rural Water District #5 for 32 years and a board member of Center Township. He was a machinist and farmer. He worked for LFM Company and retired from TWA in 1990.

He was preceded in death my his parents, five brothers, Clarence, Harold “Skeet”, Ernest “Dutch”, Merle and Dale Sanders.

Survivors include his wife Cora Sanders of the home. Daughter Shirley Grove of Atchison; son Terry and his wife Sheryl Sanders of Atchison. Grandson Jeremiah and his wife Cindy Sanders; great grandchildren Taylor, Jade and Gabriel Sanders. Sister Erma Tindle of Kansas City, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.

TULEY, Charles M. Tuley, 62 years old, of Topeka, KS. formerly of Atchison, KS. died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at his home in Topeka.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 27th, 2005 at the Effingham Union Church, with Rev. Jeff Cochran officiating. The body will be cremated following the service and family burial of the cremated remains will be on Saturday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30PM on Wednesday, Jan. 26th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Citadel Alumni Association, of Charleston, SC.

Charles M. Tuley was born on March 22, 1942 in Effingham, KS. the son of Carl and Frances (Foster) Tuley. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, KS.,and graduated from The Citadel Academy, Charleston, SC, with his bachelors degree in political science.. He attended Washburn University Law School, for one year, and graduated from the Cleveland- Marshall Law School, with his Jurorsis Doctorate Degree in Law.. Mr. Tuley practiced law in many different States, and several counties surrounding Atchison, KS. He was a member of the National Trial Lawyers Assoc., the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, the Kansas Bar Assoc, the Johnson County Bar Assoc., the Shawnee County Bar Assoc., the Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Seneca, Marshall Co. and Leavenworth County Bar Associations., He was a member of the Association of Kansas Criminal Defense Lawyers, a former member of the Bellevue County Club, Atchison, and the Lake Shawnee Golf Course, Topeka, KS. He was a member of The Citadel Alumni Association, and had served as a Municipal Judge in Effingham, and Atchison. He enjoyed golfing, outdoors, movies, traveling and especially his family.

Mr. Tuley was married to Janice Maresh on May 30,1964, they were later divorced. He was married to Cynthia Bertrand on Oct. 27, 1973, they were later divorced. He was married to Valeri Horn on June 21, 2002. Mrs. Valeri Tuley survives of the home in Topeka, KS. Additional survivors include three sons; Kevin and his wife Brigid Tuley, Chicago, ILL., Sean Tuley, Nashville, TN., and Colin and his wife Jin Tuley, Seattle, WA., three daughters; Shannon Tuley, Lawrence, KS., Jamie Tuley, Atchison, KS., and Heather Keener, Topeka, KS., his mother, Mrs. Frances Tuley, Effingham, KS., a brother, Ron Tuley, Atchison, KS., a sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Hosier, Sun City, AZ., and six grandchildren.

DONALDSON, Jerry R. Donaldson, 68 years old, of Rushville, MO., died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 26th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Kaufman, Assoc. Pastor, Cornerstone Church, Leavenworth, Ks. officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Cemetery, Rushville, MO. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 25th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rushville Christian Church.

Jerry R. Donaldson was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Rushville, MO., the son of Vern and Amanda (Frakes) Donaldson. He attended DeKalb High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Donaldson worked as a welder for thirty-one years at the former Rockwell International, Atchison, KS. before retiring in 1989. He was a commercial fisherman for many years, a member of the Rushville Christian Church, the Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post # 6, Atchison, KS. . He loved fishing, hunting, and his family.

He was married to Donna J. Zacharias on December 29, 1956 in Atchison, Ks.. Mrs. Donaldson survives of the home in Rushville, MO. Additional survivors include; two sons; Jerry Donaldson, Jr., Rushville, MO., and Terry Donaldson, St. Joseph, MO. a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Higley, Cummings, KS., three brothers, Fred Donaldson, Rushville, MO., Thomas Donaldson, and Robert Donaldson, both of St. Joseph, MO., a sister, Mrs. Ruth Moeck, Atchison, KS. and seven grandchildren. His parents, a daughter, Donna Louise Sonnenmoser, 1979, two brothers, Clinton and Albert Donaldson, preceded him in death.
