Pamela Jean Ashcroft
Pamela Jean Ashcroft died Nov. 26, 1999 at the South Central Kansas Regional Health Center in Arkansas City. She was 47.
Ashcroft was born Oct. 9, 1952 in Salina and lived most of her life at the Winfield State Hospital. She moved to the Creative Community Living center in Arkansas City two years ago.
She is survived by her parents Dick and Claudine Ashcroft of Salina, and; three sisters, Marilyn Rundberg, Carolyn Forristal and Rhonda Estep all of Salina.
A private family internment will be held at Roselawn Cemetery.
Ryan Mortuary in Salina is in charge of the arrangements.
Suzanne L. Bennett
Suzanne L. Bennett of Dallas died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 at her home. She was 61.
Bennett was born June 7, 1938 in Dallas to James Albert and Josephine (Herrick) Lewis. She graduated from Rolling College in Florida.
She worked as a secretary at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery
in Winfield. The Rev. Gene Blake will officiate. Internment will be in Highland Cemetery
in a plot next to her mother.
Memorial funds have been established with the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas and can be sent in care of the funeral home. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Scott of Dallas; daughters Laurie Bennett of Hallsville, Texas, and Pam Beutel of Austin, Texas; brothers Eric Lewis of Houston and Randy Lewis of Boston; and six grandchildren.
Idabelle C. Nickle
ARKANSAS CITY - Idabelle C. Nickle, 79, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 27, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Idabelle Nickle's Children's Christmas Aid. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Nickle was born May 6, 1920, in Dexter, to Frederick C. and Lura Jane (Hale) Shawver. She attended Dexter schools and later Arkansas City High School.
On Nov. 16, 1939, she married John Nickle in Newkirk. They made their home in Arkansas City where she was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a past member of the Old-Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers.
Survivors include her husband, John Nickle, Arkansas City; three daughters, Donna Graham, Albuquerque, N.M., Joyce Childs, Wichita, and Patricia Donnell, Branson, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Jay Harader
NEWKIRK - Jay Leroy Harader, 98, longtime Newkirk resident, died Nov. 28, 1999, in Shawn Manor in Ponca City.
A memorial has been established with the Over 60 Club of Newkirk. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647-0468.
Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Clara Hamm
Services for Clara L. Hamm, 94, who died Nov. 22, 1999, were held at 2 p.m Nov. 27 at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ellie Foster officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
Organist was Keith Anglemyer, and vocalists were Wilma and Arlan Anglemyer.
Honorary casket bearers were Kenneth Brothers, Emma Goodwin, Warren Scott, George W. Liermann, Dale Archer, Emma Cooley and Phillip Miller.
Casket bearers were Karl Magnusson, Melvin Ruggles, George Liermann, Dick Cook, Sam Miller and Mace Archer.
A memorial has been established with Tisdale United Methodist Church.

Morris Jarvis
Services for Morris W. Jarvis, 64, who died Nov. 22, 1999, were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 26 at First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Rick Thornton and Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Kathy Baker was the organist. Anna Jarvis sang "Amazing Grace," and the congregation sang ""Holy, Holy, Holy" and "On Eagles' Wings." Spirit performed "When the Saints Go Marching In" and other selections.
Honorary casket bearers were Dean Bradbury, Kenny DiVall, Vernon Goertz, Ron Godsey, Cliff Lillie, Walter Smith, Bill Stephens and Richard Vaught.
Casket bearers were Justin Brown, Robert Brown, Curtis Dick, Edwin Fisher, Steve Harding and Loren Pontious.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and Southwestern College Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Edna Kimzey
WICHITA - Edna Ethel Kimzey, 100, of Wichita, formerly of Elk County, died Nov. 25, 1999, at her home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 29 in Grace Lawn Cemetery
in Howard. Pastor Tom Hawks officiated.
A memorial has been established with Glen Park Christian Church in Wichita. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Kimzey was born Oct. 9, 1899, in Belleville, to William Pennebecker and Lydia (Stepler) Rarick. At an early age, she moved with her family to the Howard community where she attended school.
On July 4, 1920, she married Charles Weston Kimzey in Howard. They made their home in Longton, Moline and New Albany before moving to Wichita. Her husband died in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Hannaford, Wichita; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Willard Evans
ARKANSAS CITY - Willard C. Evans, 86, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 28, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Maple City Cemetery.
Evans was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Norwich, to William C. and Zola E. (Karr) Evans. When he was 13, the family moved to Maple City.
On June 16, 1937, he married Nellie R. Lady in Winfield. They made their home in Maple City until 1960 when they moved to Latham. In 1965 they moved to the Arkansas City area where they have since lived.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.
A farmer and rancher, he was a member of Dexter Masonic Lodge 156, Spencer Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine and IXL Baptist Church in Arkansas City.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Evans, and a daughter, Carrie Belle Eaglin, both of Arkansas City; a brother, Norman Evans, San Diego; a sister, Ann Cavin, Denver; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren
Jean Smith
UDALL - Norma "Jean" Smith, 65, of Route 1, Udall, died Nov. 28, 1999, at her home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Udall Recreation Commission. Contributions can be made through the funeral home or Bank of Commerce in Udall.
Smith was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Mulberry, to Earl and Thelma Lee (West) Eagleton. She attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School.
In 1963 she moved to Winfield where she worked in the Book Cave at Southwestern College. She retired as an assistant manager in October 1996.
On July 15, 1993, she married George Smith in Udall where they made their home.
She was a member of the Staff of Southwestern College Club.
Survivors include her husband, George Smith, Udall; a son, Mark Glasgow, Wichita; a daughter, Janett Richardi, Burbank, Calif.; two stepsons, Chuck Smith and Bryan Smith, both of Udall; a stepdaughter, Debbie Zimmerman, Arkansas City; her mother, Lee Eagleton, Frontenac; and eight grandchildren.
Gerald Armstrong
Gerald Wayne Armstrong, 47, of 410 College, Winfield, died Nov. 26, 1999, at his residence.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 30 in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the ALS Foundation and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Armstrong was born April 2, 1952, in Fairview, Okla., to Lawrence A. and Geneva (Didrick) Armstrong. He graduated from Derby High School.
For the past 23 years Armstrong had lived in Winfield where he worked as a mechanic for Felts Oil Co. for 13 years and Merle Snider Motors for nine years.
On Aug. 7, 1989, he married Bea Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Bea Armstrong, Winfield; a son, Raymond Armstrong, Wichita; three stepsons, Roy Williamson, Rock, Randy Williamson, Wichita, and Allen Kelley, Winfield; a stepdaughter, Rhoda Armstrong, Bolivar, Mo.; his father, Lawrence Armstrong, Springdale, Ark.; his mother, Geneva Killebrew, Wichita; a brother, Charles Armstrong, Wichita; a sister, Jan Craig, Springdale, Ark.; and nine grandchildren.
Jay Harader

Harader was born Feb. 4, 1901, in Arkansas City, to Charley Alfred and Nora Belle (Anglemyer) Harader. He attended a rural school.
On July 18, 1925, he married Ruby Treva Butts in Arkansas City. After farming for a number of years, they moved in 1950 to Newkirk where he was employed by the school system as a mechanic. He also drove a bus.
His wife died Dec. 31, 1994.
Harader was a member of the First Christian Church of Newkirk, Lodge 88 of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, the Order of Eastern Star and the Over 60 Club.
Survivors include a son, Jay Martin Harader, Chickasha, Okla.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Charles A. Harader, and a daughter, Jolene Hager, preceded him in death.
